1. The Silent Prompt: Initial Noise as Implicit Guidance for Goal-Driven Image Generation

Abstract

Text-to-image synthesis (T2I) has advanced remarkably with the emergence of large-scale diffusion models. In the conventional setup, the text prompt provides explicit, user-defined guidance, directing the generation process by denoising a randomly sampled Gaussian noise. In this work, we reveal that the often-overlooked noise itself encodes inherent generative tendencies, acting as a "silent prompt" that implicitly guides the output. This implicit guidance, embedded in the noise scheduler design of diffusion model formulations and their training stages, generalizes across a wide range of T2I models and backbones. Building on this insight, we introduce NoiseQuery, a novel strategy that selects optimal initial noise from a pre-built noise library to meet diverse user needs. Our approach not only enhances high-level semantic alignment with text prompts, but also allows for nuanced adjustments of low-level visual attributes, such as texture, sharpness, shape, and color, which are typically challenging to control through text alone. 2. Rethinking the Intermediate Features in Adversarial Attacks: Misleading Robotic Models via Adversarial Distillation

Abstract

Language-conditioned robotic learning has significantly enhanced robot adaptability by enabling a single model to execute diverse tasks in response to verbal commands. Despite these advancements, security vulnerabilities within this domain remain largely unexplored. This paper addresses this gap by proposing a novel adversarial prompt attack tailored to language-conditioned robotic models. Our approach involves crafting a universal adversarial prefix that induces the model to perform unintended actions when added to any original prompt. We demonstrate that existing adversarial techniques exhibit limited effectiveness when directly transferred to the robotic domain due to the inherent robustness of discretized robotic action spaces. To overcome this challenge, we propose to optimize adversarial prefixes based on continuous action representations, circumventing the discretization process. Additionally, we identify the beneficial impact of intermediate features on adversarial attacks and leverage the negative gradient of intermediate self-attention features to further enhance attack efficacy. Extensive experiments on VIMA models across 13 robot manipulation tasks validate the superiority of our method over existing approaches and demonstrate its transferability across different model variants.

3. ROBIN: Robust and Invisible Watermarks for Diffusion Models with Adversarial Optimization

Abstract

Watermarking generative content serves as a vital tool for authentication, ownership protection, and mitigation of potential misuse. Existing watermarking methods face the challenge of balancing robustness and concealment. They empirically inject a watermark that is both invisible and robust and passively achieve concealment by limiting the strength of the watermark, thus reducing the robustness. In this paper, we propose to explicitly introduce a watermark hiding process to actively achieve concealment, thus allowing the embedding of stronger watermarks. To be specific, we implant a robust watermark in an intermediate diffusion state and then guide the model to hide the watermark in the final generated image. We employ an adversarial optimization algorithm to produce the optimal hiding prompt guiding signal for each watermark. The prompt embedding is optimized to minimize artifacts in the generated image, while the watermark is optimized to achieve maximum strength. The watermark can be verified by reversing the generation process. 4. Hijacking Attacks against Neural Networks by Analyzing Training Data

Abstract

Backdoors and adversarial examples are the two primary threats currently faced by deep neural networks (DNNs). Both attacks attempt to hijack the model behaviors with unintended outputs by introducing (small) perturbations to the inputs. Backdoor attacks, despite the high success rates, often require a strong assumption, which is not always easy to achieve in reality. Adversarial example attacks, which put relatively weaker assumptions on attackers, often demand high computational resources, yet do not always yield satisfactory success rates when attacking mainstream black-box models in the real world. These limitations motivate the following research question: can model hijacking be achieved more simply, with a higher attack success rate and more reasonable assumptions? In this paper, we propose CleanSheet, a new model hijacking attack that obtains the high performance of backdoor attacks without requiring the adversary to tamper with the model training process. CleanSheet exploits vulnerabilities in DNNs stemming from the training data. Specifically, our key idea is to treat part of the clean training data of the target model as "poisoned data," and capture the characteristics of these data that are more sensitive to the model (typically called robust features) to construct "triggers." These triggers can be added to any input example to mislead the target model, similar to backdoor attacks. We validate the effectiveness of CleanSheet through extensive experiments on 5 datasets, 79 normally trained models, 68 pruned models, and 39 defensive models. Results show that CleanSheet exhibits performance comparable to state-of-the-art backdoor attacks, achieving an average attack success rate (ASR) of 97.5% on CIFAR-100 and 92.4% on GTSRB, respectively. Abstract

An equilibrium carrier statistics approach with a partial ionization model is proposed to determine the energy level of CN deep donors in p-type GaN with heavy Mg doping. Unlike usual compensating centers that are assumed to be fully ionized under equilibrium, partial ionization of the CN donor was taken into consideration. The energy level of the CN donor is determined to be EV + (0.20 ± 0.01) eV at elevated temperatures (∼350 K) using such a partial ionization model. The donor level for an isolated C center at a low temperature limit is further calculated considering the doping and temperature effects, which is EV + (0.32 ± 0.01) eV. Furthermore, the ionization ratio of CN is found to be dependent on the C concentration and can then be estimated to be in the range of 0.3–0.8. Such a partial ionization characteristic of CN may capture/emit free carriers during device operation and should be taken into account when analyzing device reliability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

13. <sc>KerbNet</sc>: A QoE-Aware Kernel-Based Backdoor Attack Framework

Abstract

Deep neural networks are vulnerable to backdoor attacks, where a specially-designed trigger will lead to misclassification of any benign samples. However, existing backdoor attacks usually impose conspicuous patch triggers on images, which are easily detected by humans and defense algorithms. Existing works on invisible triggers, however, either have reduced attack success rate or yield detectable patterns to visual inspections. In this article, we propose KerbNet, a kernel-based backdoor attack framework, which applies kernel operations to clean samples as the trigger to incur misclassification. The kernel-processed samples achieve a high attack success rate while appearing natural with high Quality-of-Experience (QoE). We carefully design the kernel trigger generation algorithm by exploiting the neural network structure to propagate the influence of the trigger to the target misclassification label under the QoE constraint. We conduct extensive experiments on five datasets, i.e., MNIST, GTSRB, CIFAR-10, CelebA, and ImageNette to evaluate the effectiveness and practicality of KerbNet under the impact of various factors, including neuron-residing layer, kernel size, base image, loss function, model structure, and so on. We also show that our proposed attacks can evade state-of-the-art defense strategies and visual inspections. Code will be available after publication.

Abstract

The control of carbon (C) impurity plays a crucial role in achieving high mobility GaN drift layers for GaN vertical power devices. We investigate the effects of NH3 partial pressure on the C incorporation in GaN and find out that the NH3 partial pressure is the key parameter controlling the C concentration. It is found that the C concentration is inversely proportional to the square of NH3 partial pressure under a fixed growth rate. Further physical analysis indicates that higher NH3 partial pressure results in a lower surface N vacancy (VN) concentration and, thus, the lower C incorporation efficiency. Under such a guidance, the C concentration in GaN can be reduced to as low as ∼1.7 × 1015/cm3 at a growth rate of 1 μm/h. As a consequence, a record high electron mobility of 1227 cm2/V·s at the room temperature is achieved for a GaN drift layer grown on Si substrates. 20. Coordinated Backdoor Attacks against Federated Learning with Model-Dependent Triggers

Abstract

Federated learning enables distributed training of deep learning models among user equipment (UE) to obtain a high-quality global model. A centralized server aggregates the updates submitted by UEs without knowledge of the local training data or process. Despite its privacy preserving merit, we reveal a severe security concern. Malicious UEs can manipulate their training data by injecting a backdoor trigger. Thus, the global model that aggregates those malicious updates may make false predictions on the samples with the backdoor trigger. However, the effect of a single backdoor trigger will quickly be diluted by subsequent benign updates. In this work, we present an effective coordinated backdoor attack against federated learning using multiple local triggers; the global trigger consists of various separate local triggers. Moreover, in contrast to using random triggers, we propose using model-dependent triggers (i.e., generated based on local models of attackers) to conduct backdoor attacks. We conduct extensive experiments to assess the effectiveness of our proposed backdoor attacks on MNIST and CIFAR-10 datasets. Experimental results show that our proposed methodology outperforms both coordinated attacks using random triggers and single trigger backdoor attacks in terms of attack success rate. We also show that Byzantine-resilient aggregation methodologies are not robust to our proposed attacks.

Abstract

In this work, we study the impacts of different types of strain relief layer (SRL) on dynamic on-resistance (R on) degradation of GaN power devices on Si by back-gate ramping and vertical leakage measurement. Our study reveals that the SRL has important effects on the dynamic R on. Compared with step-graded AlGaN SRL, the superlattice SRL possesses much more energy barriers, which can more effectively block the leakage of holes from GaN buffer and the injection of electrons from Si substrate. Abstract

It is commonly believed that a torn ACL or a damaged meniscus may be associated with altered knee joint movements. The purpose of this study was to measure the tibiofemoral kinematics of ACL deficiency with concomitant meniscus deficiency. Unilateral knees of 28 ACL deficient participants were studied while ascending stairs. Among these patients, 6 had isolated ACL injuries (group I), 8 had combined ACL and medial meniscus injuries (group II), 8 had combined ACL and lateral meniscus injuries (group III) and 6 had combined ACL and medial-lateral meniscus injuries (group IV). Both knees were then scanned during a stair climb activity using single fluoroscopic image system. Knee kinematics were measured at 0°, 5°, 10°, 15°, 30° and 60° of flexion during ascending stairs. At 0°, 15° and 30° flexion of the knee, the tibia rotated externally by 13.9 ± 6.1°,13.8 ± 9.5° and 15.9 ± 9.8° in Group I. Group II and III exhibited decreased external rotation from 60° to full extension. Statistical differences were found in 0°, 15°and 30° of flexion for the 2 groups compared with Group I. In general, the tibia showed anterior translation with respect to the femur during ascending stairs. It was further determined that Group III had larger anterior translation compared with Group IV at 0° and 5° of flexion (−6.9 ± 1.7 mm vs. 6.2 ± 11.3 mm,P = 0.041; −9.0 ± 1.8 mm vs. 8.1 ± 13.4 mm,P = 0.044). During ascending stairs the ACL deficient knee with different deficiencies in the meniscus will show significantly different kinematics compared with that of uninjured contralateral knee. Considering the varying effect of meniscus injuries on knee joint kinematics, future studies should concentrate on specific treatment of patients with combined ACL and meniscus injuries to protect the joint from abnormal kinematics and subsequent postoperative degeneration. Abstract

Objective: To analyze the common post-operative complications of microwave ablation in situ in the treatment of bone tumors and the prevention and control strategies., Methods: Between March 2009 and July 2012, 73 cases of bone tumors were treated with microwave ablation in situ, of which 54 cases met the inclusion criteria. There were 31 males and 23 females with a median age of 27 years (range, 9-74 years), including 37 malignant tumors and 17 benign tumors. In 49 primary bone tumors, 17 cases were in stage 3, 13 in stage IIA, and 19 in stage IIB according to Enneking grading system. The postoperative complications, managements, and outcomes in patients were analyzed., Results: After operation, 54 patients were followed up 12-40 months (mean, 24 months). Seven kinds of complications occurred in 21 patients (38.9%) with 3 cases suffered from more than one, including pathologic fracture in 4 cases (7.4%), deep infection in 2 cases (3.7%), nerve injury in 7 cases (13.0%), deep vein thrombosis of the lower extremity in 1 case (1.9%), medial collateral ligament heat injury of the knee in 1 case (1.9%), hematoma in 2 cases (3.7%), and fat liquefaction of incision and flap necrosis in 8 cases (14.8%)., Conclusion: Pathologic fracture is the primary complication which results in a second surgery. Deep infection is the main complication that often leads to failure of the limb salvage. Nerve injury and poor wound healing are the most common complications. Good control of microwave temperature is the key to successful operation, and the related preventive strategies could reduce complications.

Abstract

Objective: To research the operative method and the clinical efficacy of repairing and reconstructing tendon and ligament with allograft tendon., Methods: From September 2000 to May 2007, 164 cases with tendon and ligament injuries were treated, including 116 males and 48 females aged 21-47 years old (average 31.5 years old). There were 126 cases of anterior cruciate ligament injury, 18 cases of complete acromioclavicular dislocation, 10 cases of old dislocation of radial head, 4 cases of Achilles tendon rupture, 2 cases of tibialis anterior muscle rupture, 2 cases of patellar tendon rupture, and 2 cases of rectus femoris rupture. Time interval between injury and hospital admission was 4-345 days (average 75 days). Allograft tendon 10-26 cm in length with suture anchor or absorbable interference screw was used to reconstruct the ligament and tendon., Results: All wounds healed by first intention, except one case of rectus femoris rupture. All patients were followed for 10-36 months (average 21 months). The international knee documentation committee and the Lysholm score of patients with anterior cruciate ligament injury 12 months after operation were significantly higher than that of before operation (P < 0.01). According to the Lazzcano and Karlsson score standard, 13 cases of complete acromioclavicular dislocation at 10-12 months after operation were graded as excellent and 5 cases were good. According to Arner Lindholm score standard, 3 cases of Achilles tendon rupture at 8-16 months after operation were graded as excellent and 1 case was good. For the patients with tibialis anterior muscle rupture, at 10-17 months after operation, the limitation of dorsal extension in ankle joint was 5 degrees, and the muscle strength in the anterior tibialis muscle was decreased. For the patients with patellar tendon rupture, one completely restored the motion range of the knee joint 14 months after operation, the other had knee extension limitation of 10 degrees at 13 months after operation. For the patients with rectus femoris rupture, one had 15 degrees of extension limitation at 18 months after operation, the other suffered limitation of both extension and genuflex at 12 months after operation. According to the Broberg-Morrey score standard, 7 cases with old dislocation of radial head were graded as excellent and 3 cases were good at 3-36 months after operation., Conclusion: Allograft tendon is a good material for repairing and reconstructing tendon and ligament injuries, but attention should be paid to postoperatively early exercise under appropriate protection and early management of local rejection.

Abstract

Objective: To study mosaicplasty a as method of autogenous osteochondral transplantation in the treatment of cartilaginous defects., Methods: The technique involves obtaining small cylindrical grafts from the non-weight bearing periphery of the femur at the patellar femoral joint, and transporting them to the prepared recipient site by arthroscopy., Results: Fifteen patients with defects cartilaginous received mosaicptasty osteochondral grafting. Follow up for 12 to 21 months (mean 15 months) showed good results., Conclusion: The treatment is indicated for patients with focal cartilaginous defects under the age of 45.
