In this paper, a silicon-based terahertz wideband filter was designed using rigorous couple wave theory to achieve high diffraction efficiency and wideband filtering performance. The optimal parameters, such as filter period, duty ratio, and groove depth, are given. The design value and tolerance analysis were carried out to obtain the allowable deviation range of each structural parameter of the filter. The device was fabricated and tested for performance. The experimental results were consistent with the design results, proving the feasibility of the design method and can be applied in terahertz, communication, imaging, and other fields.

In order to make benchmark validation of the nuclear data for gallium (Ga), tungsten (W) and beryllium (Be) in existing modern evaluated nuclear data files, neutron leakage spectra in the range from 0.8 to 15 MeV from slab samples were measured by time-of-flight technique with a BC501 scintillation detector. The measurements were performed at China Institute of Atomic Energy (CIAE) using a D-T neutron source. The thicknesses of the slabs were 0.5 to 2.5 mean free path for 14.8 MeV neutrons, and the measured angles were chosen to be 60∘ and 120∘. The measured spectra were compared with those calculated by the continuous energy Monte-Carlo transport code MCNP, using the data from the CENDL-3.1, ENDF/B-VII.1 and JENDL-4.0 nuclear data files, the comparison between the experimental and calculated results show that: The results from all three libraries significantly underestimate the cross section in energy range of 10–13 MeV for Ga; For W, the calculated spectra using data from CENDL-3.1 and JENDL-4.0 libraries show larger discrepancies with the measured ones, especially around 8.5–13.5 MeV; and for Be, all the libraries led to underestimation below 3 MeV at 120∘.

- Abstract
A search for a time-varying ν¯e signal was performed with 621 days of data acquired by the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment over 704 calendar days. The time spectrum of the measured ν¯e flux normalized to its prediction was analyzed with a Lomb-Scargle periodogram, which yielded no significant\ud signal for periods ranging from 2 hours to nearly 2 years. The normalized time spectrum was also fit for a sidereal modulation under the Standard Model Extension (SME) framework to search for Lorentz and CPT violation (LV-CPTV). Limits were obtained for all six flavor pairs e¯μ¯; e¯τ¯, μ¯τ¯, e¯e;¯ μ¯μ¯ and τ¯τ¯ by fitting them one at a time, constituting the first experimental constraints on the latter three. Daya Bay’s high statistics and unique layout of multiple directions from three pairs of reactors to three experimental halls allowed the simultaneous constraint of individual SME LV-CPTV coefficients without assuming others contribute negligibly, a first for a neutrino experiment.

Neutrons produced by cosmic ray muons are an important background for underground experiments studying neutrino oscillations, neutrinoless double beta decay, dark matter, and other rare-event signals. A measurement of the neutron yield in the three different experimental halls of the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment at varying depth is reported. The neutron yield in Daya Bay's liquid scintillator is measured to be $Y_n=(10.26\pm 0.86)\times 10^{-5}$, $(10.22\pm 0.87)\times 10^{-5}$, and $(17.03\pm 1.22)\times 10^{-5}~\mu^{-1}~$g$^{-1}~$cm$^2$ at depths of 250, 265, and 860 meters-water-equivalent. These results are compared to other measurements and the simulated neutron yield in Fluka and Geant4. A global fit including the Daya Bay measurements yields a power law coefficient of $0.77 \pm 0.03$ for the dependence of the neutron yield on muon energy., Comment: 13 pages, 13 figures

- Abstract
A new measurement of the reactor antineutrino flux and energy spectrum by the Daya Bay reactor neutrino experiment is reported. The antineutrinos were generated by six 2.9 GWth nuclear reactors and detected by eight antineutrino detectors deployed in two near (560 m and 600 m flux-weighted baselines) and one far (1640 m flux-weighted baseline) underground experimental halls. With 621 days of data, more than 1.2 million inverse beta decay (IBD) candidates were detected. The IBD yield in the eight detectors was measured, and the ratio of measured to predicted flux was found to be 0.946±0.020 (0.992±0.021) for the Huber+Mueller (ILL+Vogel) model. A 2.9Ï deviation was found in the measured IBD positron energy spectrum compared to the predictions. In particular, an excess of events in the region of 4â6 MeV was found in the measured spectrum, with a local significance of 4.4Ï. A reactor antineutrino spectrum weighted by the IBD cross section is extracted for model-independent predictions.

A flow search approach is presented in this paper. In the approach, each iterative process involves a subproblem, whose variables are the stepsize parameters. Every feasible solution of the subproblem corresponds to some serial search stages, the stepsize parameters in different search stages may interact mutually, and their optimal values are determined by evaluating the total effect of the interaction. The main idea of the flow search approach is illustrated via the minimization of a convex quadratic function. Based on the flow search approach, some properties of the m-step linear conjugate gradient algorithm are analyzed and new bounds on its convergence rate are also presented. Theoretical and numerical results indicate that the new bounds are better than the well-known ones. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Cu0.62Zn0.38 brass foil was heated at temperatures of 400–700°C in flowing N2–5%O2 at a pressure of 1atm. for 1–24h. The oxidized specimens were characterized with a scanning electron microscope, an X-ray diffractometer and a transmission electron microscope. The results show that hexagon ZnO nanowires and nanowalls grew on convoluted oxide scales when brass foils were oxidized at 500 and 600°C. Thermodynamics of forming ZnO is analyzed based on oxidation theory of an alloy. Pilling–Bedworth ratio of Cu–Zn alloy is calculated based on the volume differences between the formed oxide and the consumed metal. The growth stresses caused by Pilling–Bedworth ratio of the alloy and stress relief of oxide scale at different oxidation temperature are analyzed. The mechanism of forming nanostructural ZnO on the convoluted oxide scales is explained by the change in the growth stresses and stress relief of oxide scale during thermal oxidation. To maximize the light yield of the liquid scintillator (LS) for the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO), a 20 t LS sample was produced in a pilot plant at Daya Bay. The optical properties of the new LS in various compositions were studied by replacing the gadolinium-loaded LS in one antineutrino detector. The concentrations of the fluor, PPO, and the wavelength shifter, bis-MSB, were increased in 12 steps from 0.5 g/L and, 13 pages, 8 figures
