Wheeler's delayed-choice experiment investigates the indeterminacy of wave-particle duality and the role played by the measurement apparatus in quantum theory. Due to the inconsistency with classical physics, it has been generally believed that it is not possible to reproduce the delayed-choice experiment using a hidden variable theory. Recently, it was shown that this assumption was incorrect, and in fact Wheeler's delayed-choice experiment can be explained by a causal two dimensional hidden-variable theory [R. Chaves, G. B. Lemos, and J. Pienaar, Phys. Rev. Lett. 120, 190401 (2018)]. Here, we carry out an experiment of a device-independent delayed-choice experiment using photon states that are space-like separated, and demonstrate a loophole-free version of the delayed-choice protocol that is consistent with quantum theory but inconsistent with any causal two-dimensional hidden variable theory. This salvages Wheeler's thought experiment and shows that causality can be used to test quantum theory in a complementary way to the Bell and Leggett-Garg tests.

In this paper, we use Bell inequality and nonlocality to study the bipartite correlation in an exactly soluble two-dimensional mixed spin system. Bell inequality turns out to be a valuable detector for phase transitions in this model. It can detect not only the quantum phase transition, but also the thermal phase transitions, of the system. The property of bipartite correlation in the system is also analyzed. In the quantum anti-ferromagnetic phase, the Bell inequality is violated thus nonlocality is present. It is interesting that the nonlocality is enhanced by thermal fluctuation, and similar results have not been observed in anti-ferromagnetic phase. In the ferromagnetic phase, the quantum correlation turns out to be very novel, which cannot be captured by entanglement or nonlocality.

The singularity of quantum correlations, such as quantum entanglement(QE) and quantum discord(QD), has been widely regarded as a valuable indicator for quantum phase transition(QPT) in low-dimensional quantum systems. In this paper, for a spin ladder system with ring exchange, we find that the singularity of QD (or QE) could not indicate the critical points of the system. Instead, the QD shows a novel odd-even effect in some phases, which can be used to detect the phase boundary points. The size effect is related to the symmetry breaking of the ladder.

We extend the idea of entanglement concentration for pure states(Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 88}, 187903) to the case of mixed states. The scheme works only with particle statistics and local operations, without the need of any other interactions. We show that the maximally entangled state can be distilled out when the initial state is pure, otherwise the entanglement of the final state is less than one. The distillation efficiency is a product of the diagonal elements of the initial state, it takes the maximum 50%, the same as the case for pure states., Comment: 3 pages, 1 figure

The effect of hydrostatic pressure (P) up to 17 kbar on the superconducting transition temperature (Tc) of the newly discovered intermetallic non-oxide perovskite superconductor MgCxNi3 has been reported. The TC is found to increase with increasing P at a rate of dTc/dP ~ 0.0134 to 0.0155 K/kbar depending on the value of carbon content x. The absolute value of dTc/dP for MgCxNi3 is about the same as that of intermetallic RNi2B2C (R = rare earths) and metallic superconductors but about one order of magnitude smaller than that of the most recently and intensively studied superconductor MgB2. However, the dlnTc/dP ~ 0.00181 to 0.00224 kbar-1 and the rate of change of Tc with unit cell volume (V), dlnTC/dlnV ~ -3.18 to -2.58 of MgCxNi3 are having the comparable magnitude to that of MgB2 with opposite sign. The low-temperature specific heat C(T,H) of a new superconductor MgCNi3 has been measured in detail. (C/gammasub_nTc=1.97 is estimated from the anomaly at Tc. At low temperatures, the electronic contribution in the superconducting state follows Ces/gammasub_nTc=7.96exp(-1.46Tc/T). The magnetic field dependence of gamma(H) is found to be linear with respect to H. Tc estimated from the McMillan formula agrees well with the observed value. All the specific heat data appear to be consistent with each other within the moderate-coupling BCS context. It is amazing that such a superconductor unstable to ferromagnetism behaves so conventionally. The Debye temperature Thetasub_D=287 K and the normal state gammasub_n=33.6 mJ/mol K2 are determined for the present sample.
