1. The Class 0 protostars in Orion: Characterizing the properties of their magnetized envelopes

Abstract

We present a study connecting the physical properties of protostellar envelopes to the morphology of the envelope-scale magnetic field. We use the ALMA polarization observations of 55 young prtostars at 0.87 mm on $\sim400-3000$ au scales from the {\em B}-field Orion Protostellar Survey (BOPS) to infer the envelope-scale magnetic field and both dust and gas emission on comparable scales to measure the envelope properties. We find that the protostellar envelopes with compact polarized dust emission tend to have lower envelope masses, than the sources with more extended envelopes. We also find that protostars showing hourglass-field morphologies tend to have lower velocity dispersions in their envelopes, whereas systems with spiral-field morphologies have higher velocity dispersion. Combining with the disk properties taken from the Orion VLA/ALMA Nascent Disk and Multiplicity (VANDAM) survey, we connect envelope properties to fragmentation. Our results suggest that envelope mass may not correlate with fragmentation, whereas turbulence appears to promote fragmentation. On the other hand, we find that fragmentation is suppressed in systems with pinched magnetic fields, suggesting that the magnetic field play a role on providing additional support against gravitational collapse, and the formation of an hourglass-like field may coincide with enhanced magnetic braking that removes angular momentum and hinders the formation of embedded disks. Abstract

By directly altering microscopic interactions, pressure provides a powerful tuning knob for the exploration of condensed phases and geophysical phenomena1. The megabar regime represents an interesting frontier, in which recent discoveries include high-temperature superconductors, as well as structural and valence phase transitions2-6. However, at such high pressures, many conventional measurement techniques fail. Here we demonstrate the ability to perform local magnetometry inside a diamond anvil cell with sub-micron spatial resolution at megabar pressures. Our approach uses a shallow layer of nitrogen-vacancy colour centres implanted directly within the anvil7-9; crucially, we choose a crystal cut compatible with the intrinsic symmetries of the nitrogen-vacancy centre to enable functionality at megabar pressures. We apply our technique to characterize a recently discovered hydride superconductor, CeH9 (ref. 10). By performing simultaneous magnetometry and electrical transport measurements, we observe the dual signatures of superconductivity: diamagnetism characteristic of the Meissner effect and a sharp drop of the resistance to near zero. By locally mapping both the diamagnetic response and flux trapping, we directly image the geometry of superconducting regions, showing marked inhomogeneities at the micron scale. Our work brings quantum sensing to the megabar frontier and enables the closed-loop optimization of superhydride materials synthesis.

3. Tobacco Dependence Treatment: Pharmacist’s Role

Abstract

Smoking prevalence and tobacco-related mortality have steadily declined in the recent decades. However, the use of e-cig and other nicotine containing products used for smoking cessation and other reasons is on the rise. Chronic use of tobacco products leads to serious health issues, yet a limited number of pharmacotherapies are available to treat smoking-related disorders. These pharmacotherapies in some cases are not effective or cause similar side effects as nicotine. Recently, with the inception of SB 493, pharmacists are authorized to be actively involved in smoking cessation. For example, California’s legislature granted pharmacists authority to furnish FDA-approved nicotine replacementtherapies through SB 493. Thus, pharmacists must complete a training course approved by the board of pharmacy, as well as annual continuing education on tobacco cessation to be able to make the appropriate decision which product to choose for their patients. In this review, we attempted to review the available pharmacotherapies for smoking cessation and discuss the role that pharmacists play to help patients benefit from these products.

In the univariate logistic regression analysis, thirty-six out of 46 risk factors, including 34 laboratory markers, were significantly associated with increased odds of severe patients. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the CD19+ lymphocyte count, MYO, LDH, and AFR were associated with increased odds of severe disease. Moreover, Lymphocyte count and AFR levels increased, LDH and CRP levels decreased during hospitalization in recovered severe patients, whereas severe lymphocytopenia and continuously increasing LDH levels were observed in deteriorated patients. AFR level increased and CRP level decreased before the disease worsened in the deteriorated patients; however, when the patients deteriorated, AFR decreased and CRP increased significantly.Conclusion: CD19+ lymphocyte count, MYO, LDH, and AFR are independent biomarkers for early identification of severe COVID-19. Lymphocyte count, AFR, LDH, and CRP levels were helpful in predicting the clinical progression of the disease.\. But the independent and combined effects of them on mental health among patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are uncertain.Methods: The independent and combined effects of education and living environment on mental health were assessed by binary logistic regression in 1064 COPD patients. Additive interaction was assessed with the relative excess risk ratio (RERI), attribution percentage (AP), and synergy index (SI).Results: Our results shown that low education level and urban living environment were independently associated with higher risks for anxiety (odds ratio [OR]: 1.56, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.06– 2.29 and OR:2.15, 95% CI 1.51– 2.05) or depression (OR:1.62, 95% CI 1.17– 2.27 and OR: 2.01, 95% CI 1.46– 2.75) among COPD patients. The combination effect of them was also associated with higher risks for anxiety (OR: 7.90, 95% CI 3.83– 16.29, P < 0.001) or depression (OR: 11.79, 95% CI 5.77– 24.10, P < 0.001) among these patients. Furthermore, we observed strong synergistic additive interactions between them for anxiety (SI: 11.57, 95% CI 1.41– 95.27; RERI: 6.31, 95% CI 1.60– 11.01; AP: 0.8, 95% CI 0.66– 0.94) and depression (SI: 31.31, 95% CI 1.59– 617.04; RERI: 10.44, 95% CI 2.66– 18.23; AP: 0.89, 95% CI 0.8– 0.97).Conclusion: Low education levels and living in urban areas had an independent and synergistic effects on mental health among COPD patients.Keywords: anxiety, China, COPD, depression, education, living environment

Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to evaluate the odds ratios of prostate biopsy density and relevant clinical indicators. Logistic regression analysis was performed to establish a predictive model combining indicators with predictive value. The predictive value of each indicator and the new model was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and the area under the curve (AUC).Results: The detection rate of prostate cancer in the study population was 32.35%. Multivariate analysis showed that age, PSAD, PI-RADS 2.1 score, and prostate biopsy density were independent predictors of prostate cancer. The ROC curve analysis revealed an AUC of 0.707 (95% CI 0.625– 0.790) for biopsy density, with a cutoff value of approximately 0.22 needle mL− 1. The best predictive model consisted of age, PSAD, PI-RADS 2.1 score, and biopsy density, with an AUC of 0.857.Conclusion: Biopsy density is associated with the detection of prostate cancer, with a critical value of 0.22 needle mL− 1. As commonly used solutions in fluid resuscitation, acetated Ringer’s (AR) and Lactate Ringer’s solution (LR) were far from perfect for their adverse reactions such as lactic acidosis and electrolyte imbalances. In previous studies, TPP@PAMAM-MR (TPP-MR), a novel nanocrystal resuscitation fluid has been found to protect against myocardial injury in septic rats. However, its role in myocardial injury in rats with hemorrhagic shock and underlying mechanism is unclear.Methods: The hemorrhagic shock rats and hypoxia-treated cardiomyocytes (H9C2) were utilized to investigate the impact of TPP-MR on cardiac function, mitochondrial function, and lipid peroxidation. The expressions of ferritin-related proteins glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4), Acyl CoA Synthase Long Chain Family Member 4 (ACSL4), and Cyclooxygenase-2(COX2) were analyzed through Western blotting to explore the mechanism of TPP-MR on hemorrhagic myocardial injury.Results: TPP-MR, a novel nanocrystalline resuscitation fluid, was synthesized using TPP@PAMAM@MA as a substitute for L-malic acid. We found that TPP-MR resuscitation significantly reduced myocardial injury reflected by enhancing cardiac output, elevating mean arterial pressure (MAP), and improving perfusion. Moreover, TPP-MR substantially prolonged hemorrhagic shock rats’ survival time and survival rate. Further investigations indicated that TPP-MR improved the mitochondrial function of myocardial cells, mitigated the production of oxidative stress agents (ROS) and increased the glutathione (GSH) content. Additionally, TPP-MR inhibited the expression of the ferroptosis-associated GPX4 protein, ACSL4 and COX2, thereby enhancing the antioxidant capacity.Conclusion: The results showed that TPP-MR had a protective effect on myocardial injury in rats with hemorrhagic shock, and its mechanism might be related to improving the mitochondrial function of myocardial cells and inhibiting the process of ferroptosis.Keywords: myocardial injury, hemorrhagic shock, mitochondria, ferroptosis

Sensitive, specific, cost-efficient and non-invasive indicators for assessing individual CAD risk in community population screening are urgently needed.Patients and Methods: 3112 patients with CAD and 3182 controls were recruited from three clinical centers in China, and differences in baseline and clinical characteristics were compared. For the discovery cohort, the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression was used to identify significant features and four machine learning algorithms (logistic regression, support vector machine (SVM), random forest (RF) and extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost)) were applied to construct models for CAD risk assessment, the receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve and precision-recall (PR) curve were conducted to evaluate their predictive accuracy. The optimal model was interpreted by Shapley additive explanations (SHAP) analysis and assessed by the ROC curve, calibration curve, and decision curve analysis (DCA) and validated by two external cohorts.Results: Using LASSO filtration, all included variables were considered to be statistically significant. Four machine learning models were constructed based on these features and the results of ROC and PR curve implied that the XGBoost model exhibited the highest predictive performance, which yielded a high area of ROC curve (AUC) of 0.988 (95% CI: 0.986– 0.991) to distinguish CAD patients from controls with a sensitivity of 94.6% and a specificity of 94.6%. The calibration curve showed that the predicted results were in good agreement with actual observations, and DCA exhibited a better net benefit across a wide range of threshold probabilities. External validation of the model also exhibited favorable discriminatory performance, with an AUC, sensitivity, and specificity of 0.953 (95% CI: 0.945– 0.960), 89.9%, and 87.1% in the validation cohort, and 0.935 (95% CI: 0.915– 0.955), 82.0%, and 90.3% in the replication cohort.Conclusion: Our model is highly informative for clinical practice and will be conducive to primary prevention and tailoring the precise management for CAD patients. However, the correlation between excretion of uric acid and these diseases is unclear. Our study aimed to explore the relationship between uric acid excretion and type 2 diabetes (T2D).Methods: A total of 228 HUA patients from Tianjin Medical University General Hospital from 2022 to 2023 were included in this study. We collected demographic, biochemical, and anthropometric data on each subject. Urine uric acid excretion (UUAE) was calculated enzymatically from a single urine collection that lasted 24 hours. And fractional excretion of uric acid (FEUA) was calculated from serum uric acid and creatinine and uric acid and creatinine. Binary logistic regression modeling assessed the association between uric acid excretion and T2D.Results: Of the 228 subjects, 13.4% had T2D and 48.7% had obesity. The obesity group had a lower FEUA (p< 0.05) and a higher UUAE compared to the control group (p< 0.05). And FEUA had a stronger correlation with the risk of T2D (p< 0.001). Also, there was a negative association between BMI and FEUA and a positive link between BMI and UUAE in the outpatients.Conclusion: Increased FEUA levels were significantly associated with T2D in HUA patients. Therefore, routine calculating of FEUA is essential for proper diagnosis and appropriate treatment T2D of in HUA patients. The study used propensity score matching (PSM) to reduce selectivity bias. Overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) were compared using Kaplan‒Meier curves with the Log rank test. The objective response rate (ORR), conversion surgery rate (CSR) adverse event (AE) comparison and subgroup analysis were performed between the two groups.Results: After PSM 1:1, 444 patients were divided into two groups. The patients with hHCC who received HAIC had higher median PFS (6.1 vs 3.3 months, P < 0.001) and OS (10.3 vs 8.2 months, P=0.303) than TACE. Higher ORR (24.8% vs 11.7%) and CSR (15.5% vs 8.9%) were found in the HAIC group than in the TACE group (both P < 0.05). The incidence of grade 3/4 AE was 23.9% and 8.1% in the TACE and HAIC groups, respectively. The subgroup analysis suggest that HAIC appeared to particularly benefit patients with tumor diameter of more than 10 centimeters (hazard ratio [HR], 0.6; 95% CI, 0.47– 0.77; p, 0.00) and PVTT Vp4 (HR, 0.56; 95% CI, 0.39– 0.8; P, 0.01) for PFS outperforming TACE.Conclusion: HAIC can provide better disease control for hHCC than cTACE, with a comparable long-term OS and safety.Keywords: hepatocellular carcinoma, transarterial chemoembolization, hepatic artery infusion chemotherapy, high risk

Abstract

Quantum information science is a growing field that promises to take computing into a new age of higher performance and larger scale computing as well as being capable of solving problems classical computers are incapable of solving. The outstanding issue in practical quantum computing today is scaling up the system while maintaining interconnectivity of the qubits and low error rates in qubit operations to be able to implement error correction and fault-tolerant operations. Trapped ion qubits offer long coherence times that allow error correction. However, error correction algorithms require large numbers of qubits to work properly. We can potentially create many thousands (or more) of qubits with long coherence states in a storage ring. For example, a circular radio-frequency quadrupole, which acts as a large circular ion trap and could enable larger scale quantum computing. Such a Storage Ring Quantum Computer (SRQC) would be a scalable and fault tolerant quantum information system, composed of qubits with very long coherence lifetimes. With computing demands potentially outpacing the supply of high-performance systems, quantum computing could bring innovation and scientific advances to particle physics and other DOE supported programs. Increased support of R$\&$D in large scale ion trap quantum computers would allow the timely exploration of this exciting new scalable quantum computer. The R$\&$D program could start immediately at existing facilities and would include the design and construction of a prototype SRQC. The clinical characteristics of the patients with AECOPD and the complete blood counts (CBCs) of the healthy volunteers were collected. The associations of PLR, NLR, MLR, BLR, and ELR with airflow limitation, hospital length of stay (LOS), C-reactive protein (CRP), and in-hospital mortality in patients with AECOPD were analyzed.Results: Compared with the healthy volunteers, PLR, NLR, MLR, BLR, and ELR were all elevated in COPD patients under stable condition. PLR, NLR, MLR, and BLR were further elevated while ELR was lowered during exacerbation. In the patients with AECOPD, PLR, NLR, and MLR were positively correlated with hospital LOS as well as CRP. In contrast, ELR was negatively correlated with hospital LOS as well as CRP. Elevated PLR, NLR, and MLR were all associated with more severe airflow limitation in AECOPD. Elevated PLR, NLR, and MLR were all associated with increased in-hospital mortality while elevated ELR was associated with decreased in-hospital mortality. Binary logistic regression analysis showed that smoking history, FEV1% predicted, pneumonia, pulmonary heart disease (PHD), uric acid (UA), albumin, and MLR were significant independent predictors ofin-hospital mortality. These predictors along with ELR were used to construct a nomogram for predicting in-hospital mortality in AECOPD. The nomogram had a C-index of 0.850 (95% CI: 0.799– 0.901), and the calibration curve, decision curve analysis (DCA), and clinical impact curve (CIC) further demonstrated its good predictive value and clinical applicability.Conclusion: In summary, PLR, NLR, MLR, and ELR served as useful biomarkers in patients with AECOPD.Keywords: healthy volunteers, in-hospital mortality, length of stay, nomogram, pneumonia, pulmonary heart disease

The study aims to investigate the relationship between different metabolic indexes and MetS.Methods: A total of 399 hyperuricemia patients from Tianjin Medical University General Hospital from 2022 to 2023 were included in this study. We collected demographic, anthropometric, and biochemical data on each subject. And calculate serum uric acid-to-creatinine ratio (SUA/Cr), serum uric acid to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (UHR), triglyceride to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (THR), and triglyceride and glucose (TyG) index. Binary logistic regression modeling was performed to explore the association between different metabolic markers and MetS.Results: Out of the 399 subjects, 28.3% had MetS. UHR, THR, and TyG index were significantly higher in the MetS group than those in the control group (p< 0.05), which were associated with an increased risk of MetS. However, SUA/Cr was not associated with MetS (p> 0.05). TyG index had a stronger relationship with the risk of MetS (OR 5.476, 95% CI 2.210– 13.569, p< 0.001). The cut-off with the biggest Youden index of the TyG index was 9.13 and the area under the curve (AUC) was 0.719.Conclusion: A high TyG index is associated with an increased risk of MetS in HUA patients. Abstract

Malnourishment is a risk factor for childhood mortality, jeopardizing the health of children by aggravating pneumonia/acute respiratory infections and diarrheal diseases. Malnourishment causes morphophysiological changes resulting in stunting and wasting that have long-lasting consequences such as cognitive deficit and metabolic dysfunction. Using a pig model of malnutrition, the interplay between the phenotypic data displayed by the malnourished animals, the gene expression pattern along the intestinal tract, microbiota composition of the intestinal contents, and hepatic metabolite concentrations from the same animals were correlated using a multi-omics approach. Samples from the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum of malnourished (protein and calorie-restricted diet) and full-fed (no dietary restrictions) piglets were subjected to RNA-seq. Gene co-expression analysis and phenotypic correlations were made with WGCNA, while the integration of transcriptome with microbiota composition and the hepatic metabolite profile was done using mixOmics. Malnourishment caused changes in tissue gene expression that influenced energetic balance, cell proliferation, nutrient absorption, and response to stress. Repression of antioxidant genes, including glutathione peroxidase, in coordination with induction of metal ion transporters corresponded to the hepatic metabolite changes. These data indicate oxidative stress in the intestine of malnourished animals. Furthermore, several of the phenotypes displayed by these animals could be explained by changes in gene expression.

Abstract

Hungatella hathewayi has been observed to be a member of the gut microbiome. Unfortunately, little is known about this organism in spite of being associated with human fatalities; it is important to understand virulence mechanisms and epidemiological prospective to cause disease. In this study, a patient with chronic neurologic symptoms presented to the clinic with subsequent isolation of a strain with phenotypic characteristics suggestive of Clostridium difficile. However, whole-genome sequence found the organism to be H. hathewayi. Analysis including publicly available Hungatella genomes found substantial genomic differences as compared to the type strain, indicating this isolate was not C. difficile. We examined the whole-genome of Hungatella species and related genera, using comparative genomics to fully examine species identification and toxin production. Orthogonal phylogenetic using the 16S rRNA gene and entire genome analyses that included genome distance analyses using Genome-to-Genome Distance (GGDC), Average Nucleotide Identity (ANI), and a pan-genome analysis with inclusion of available public genomes determined the speciation to be Hungatella. Two clearly differentiated groups were identified, one including a reference H. hathewayi genome (strain DSM-13,479) and a second group that was determined to be H. effluvii, which included our clinical isolate. Also, some genomes reported as H. hathewayi were found to belong to other genera, including Clostridium and Faecalicatena. We show that the Hungatella species have an open pan-genome reflecting high genomic diversity. This study highlights the importance of correctly assigning taxonomic identification, particularly in disease-associated strains, to better understand virulence and therapeutic options.

28. Two-proton momentum correlation from photondisintegration of $\alpha$-clustering light nuclei in the quasi-deuteron region

Abstract

The proton-proton momentum correlation function is constructed in three-body photo-disintegration channels from $^{12}$C and $^{16}$O targets in the quasi-deuteron regime within the framework of an extended quantum molecular dynamics model. Using the formula of Lednicky and Lyuboshitz (LL) for the momentum correlation function, we obtain a proton-proton momentum correlation function for the specific three-body photon-disintegration channels of $^{12}$C and $^{16}$O targets, which are assumed to have different initial geometric structures, and extract their respective emission source sizes for the proton-proton pair. The results demonstrate that constructing a proton-proton momentum correlation is feasible in photo-nuclear reactions, and it is sensitive to the initial nuclear structure. For future experimental studies investigating the $\alpha$-clustering structures of light nuclei, the present work can be used to shed light on the performance and correlation function analysis of ($\gamma$,pp) or (e,$e'$pp) reactions.

Abstract

Smoking prevalence and tobacco-related mortality have steadily declined in the recent decades. However, the use of e-cig and other nicotine containing products used for smoking cessation and other reasons is on the rise. Chronic use of tobacco products leads to serious health issues, yet a limited number of pharmacotherapies are available to treat smoking-related disorders. These pharmacotherapies in some cases are not effective or cause similar side effects as nicotine. Recently, with the inception of SB 493, pharmacists are authorized to be actively involved in smoking cessation. For example, California’s legislature granted pharmacists authority to furnish FDA-approved nicotine replacementtherapies through SB 493. Thus, pharmacists must complete a training course approved by the board of pharmacy, as well as annual continuing education on tobacco cessation to be able to make the appropriate decision which product to choose for their patients. In this review, we attempted to review the available pharmacotherapies for smoking cessation and discuss the role that pharmacists play to help patients benefit from these products.

31. Monitoring the microbiome for food safety and quality using deep shotgun sequencing.

Abstract

In this work, we hypothesized that shifts in the food microbiome can be used as an indicator of unexpected contaminants or environmental changes. To test this hypothesis, we sequenced the total RNA of 31 high protein powder (HPP) samples of poultry meal pet food ingredients. We developed a microbiome analysis pipeline employing a key eukaryotic matrix filtering step that improved microbe detection specificity to >99.96% during in silico validation. The pipeline identified 119 microbial genera per HPP sample on average with 65 genera present in all samples. The most abundant of these were Bacteroides, Clostridium, Lactococcus, Aeromonas, and Citrobacter. We also observed shifts in the microbial community corresponding to ingredient composition differences. When comparing culture-based results for Salmonella with total RNA sequencing, we found that Salmonella growth did not correlate with multiple sequence analyses. We conclude that microbiome sequencing is useful to characterize complex food microbial communities, while additional work is required for predicting specific species' viability from total RNA sequencing.

Abstract

Vibrio parahaemolyticus is the most common cause of seafood-borne illness reported in the United States. The draft genomes of 132 North American clinical and oyster V. parahaemolyticus isolates were sequenced to investigate their phylogenetic and biogeographic relationships. The majority of oyster isolate sequence types (STs) were from a single harvest location; however, four were identified from multiple locations. There was population structure along the Gulf and Atlantic Coasts of North America, with what seemed to be a hub of genetic variability along the Gulf Coast, with some of the same STs occurring along the Atlantic Coast and one shared between the coastal waters of the Gulf and those of Washington State. Phylogenetic analyses found nine well-supported clades. Two clades were composed of isolates from both clinical and oyster sources. Four were composed of isolates entirely from clinical sources, and three were entirely from oyster sources. Each single-source clade consisted of one ST. Some human isolates lack tdh, trh, and some type III secretion system (T3SS) genes, which are established virulence genes of V. parahaemolyticus Thus, these genes are not essential for pathogenicity. However, isolates in the monophyletic groups from clinical sources were enriched in several categories of genes compared to those from monophyletic groups of oyster isolates. These functional categories include cell signaling, transport, and metabolism. The identification of genes in these functional categories provides a basis for future in-depth pathogenicity investigations of V. parahaemolyticusIMPORTANCEVibrio parahaemolyticus is the most common cause of seafood-borne illness reported in the United States and is frequently associated with shellfish consumption. This study contributes to our knowledge of the biogeography and functional genomics of this species around North America. STs shared between the Gulf Coast and the Atlantic seaboard as well as Pacific waters suggest possible transport via oceanic currents or large shipping vessels. STs frequently isolated from humans but rarely, if ever, isolated from the environment are likely more competitive in the human gut than other STs. This could be due to additional functional capabilities in areas such as cell signaling, transport, and metabolism, which may give these isolates an advantage in novel nutrient-replete environments such as the human gut.

35. Study on high-CO2tolerant Scenedesmus sp. And its mechanism via comparative transcriptomic analysis

Abstract

The emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) to the atmosphere at an increasingly high rate is the primary cause of global warming. Previous studies have mostly focused on low CO2 concentration inputs and the resulting CO2 concentrating mechanisms (CCM). However, there are relatively few reports on high-CO2 tolerant species and their tolerance mechanisms. In this study, Scenedesmus sp. was grown under 1-70 % CO2 conditions, and a transcriptomic analysis was performed to analyze the global gene expression profiles induced by extremely-high CO2 (70 %) relative to relatively-low CO2 (1%). Results showed that Scenedesmus sp. produced a maximum biomass of 3.92 g L-1 at 10 % CO2 and a biomass of 2.75 g L-1 at 70 % CO2. High relative CO2 levels (30-70 %) were favorable for accumulation of lipids and yielded a maximum lipid productivity of about 82.9 mg L-1 d-1. The abundance of genes related to oxidoreductase activities and photorespiration were stimulated under 70 % CO2 condition, which in turn led to overproduction of ROS. In addition, qPCR was used to validate the results from the transcriptomic analysis and found that most genes involving in the antioxidant system, such as CAT and SOD2, were upregulated around 16.5 times under the high CO2 treatments. In addition, the down-regulation of genes involved in CCM might ensure Scenedesmus sp. rapid adaption to the environmental signal to maintain microalgal growth through energy saving.

Abstract

We report on the realization of a Fermi-Fermi mixture of ultracold atoms that combines mass imbalance, tunability, and collisional stability. In an optically trapped sample of $^{161}$Dy and $^{40}$K, we identify a broad Feshbach resonance centered at a magnetic field of $217\,$G. Hydrodynamic expansion profiles in the resonant interaction regime reveal a bimodal behavior resulting from mass imbalance. Lifetime studies on resonance show a suppression of inelastic few-body processes by orders of magnitude, which we interpret as a consequence of the fermionic nature of our system. The resonant mixture opens up intriguing perspectives for studies on novel states of strongly correlated fermions with mass imbalance., Comment: Revised version v3; Supplemental Material available as ancillary file

Abstract

We report systematic measurements of bulk properties of the system created in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}$ = 14.5 GeV recorded by the STAR detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC).The transverse momentum spectra of $\pi^{\pm}$, $K^{\pm}$ and $p(\bar{p})$ are studied at mid-rapidity ($|y| < 0.1$) for nine centrality intervals. The centrality, transverse momentum ($p_T$),and pseudorapidity ($\eta$) dependence of inclusive charged particle elliptic flow ($v_2$), and rapidity-odd charged particles directed flow ($v_{1}$) results near mid-rapidity are also presented. These measurements are compared with the published results from Au+Au collisions at other energies, and from Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}$ = 2.76 TeV. The results at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}$ = 14.5 GeV show similar behavior as established at other energies and fit well in the energy dependence trend. These results are important as the 14.5 GeV energy fills the gap in $\mu_B$, which is of the order of 100 MeV,between $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}$ =11.5 and 19.6 GeV. Abstract

We present STAR measurements of strange hadron ($\mathrm{K}^{0}_{\mathrm S}$, $\Lambda$, $\overline{\Lambda}$, $\Xi^-$, $\overline{\Xi}^+$, $\Omega^-$, $\overline{\Omega}^+$, and $\phi$) production at mid-rapidity ($|y| < 0.5$) in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{\mathrm{NN}}}}$ = 7.7 - 39 GeV from the Beam Energy Scan Program at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). Transverse momentum spectra, averaged transverse mass, and the overall integrated yields of these strange hadrons are presented versus the centrality and collision energy. Antibaryon-to-baryon ratios ($\overline{\Lambda}$/$\Lambda$, $\overline{\Xi}^+$/$\Xi^-$, $\overline{\Omega}^+$/$\Omega^-$) are presented as well, and used to test a thermal statistical model and to extract the temperature normalized strangeness and baryon chemical potentials at hadronic freeze-out ($\mu_{B}/T_{\rm ch}$ and $\mu_{S}/T_{\rm ch}$) in central collisions. Strange baryon-to-pion ratios are compared to various model predictions in central collisions for all energies. The nuclear modification factors ($R_{\textrm{CP}}$) and antibaryon-to-meson ratios as a function of transverse momentum are presented for all collision energies. The $\mathrm{K}^{0}_{\mathrm S}$ $R_{\textrm{CP}}$ shows no suppression for $p_{\rm T}$ up to 3.5 $\mathrm{GeV} / c$ at energies of 7.7 and 11.5 GeV. The $\overline{\Lambda}$/$\mathrm{K}^{0}_{\mathrm S}$ ratio also shows baryon-to-meson enhancement at intermediate $p_{\rm T}$ ($\approx$2.5 $\mathrm{GeV} / c$) in central collisions at energies above 19.6 GeV. Abstract

We report the first measurement of the inclusive jet and the dijet longitudinal double-spin asymmetries, $A_{LL}$, at midrapidity in polarized $pp$ collisions at a center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s} = 510$ GeV. The inclusive jet $A_{LL}$ measurement is sensitive to the gluon helicity distribution down to a gluon momentum fraction of $x\approx 0.015$, while the dijet measurements, separated into four jet-pair topologies, provide constraints on the $x$ dependence of the gluon polarization. Both results are consistent with previous measurements made at $\sqrt{s}= 200$ GeV in the overlapping kinematic region, $x > 0.05$, and show good agreement with predictions from recent next-to-leading order global analyses.

Abstract

$J/\psi$ suppression has long been considered a sensitive signature of the formation of the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. In this letter, we present the first measurement of inclusive $J/\psi$ production at mid-rapidity through the dimuon decay channel in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV with the STAR experiment. These measurements became possible after the installation of the Muon Telescope Detector was completed in 2014. The $J/\psi$ yields are measured in a wide transverse momentum ($p_{\rm{T}}$) range of 0.15 GeV/$c$ to 12 GeV/$c$ from central to peripheral collisions. They extend the kinematic reach of previous measurements at RHIC with improved precision. In the 0-10% most central collisions, the $J/\psi$ yield is suppressed by a factor of approximately 3 for $p_{\rm{T}}>5$ GeV/$c$ relative to that in p+p collisions scaled by the number of binary nucleon-nucleon collisions. The $J/\psi$ nuclear modification factor displays little dependence on $p_{\rm{T}}$ in all centrality bins. Model calculations can qualitatively describe the data, providing further evidence for the color-screening effect experienced by $J/\psi$ mesons in the QGP.

Abstract

The $\Lambda$ ($\bar{\Lambda}$) hyperon polarization along the beam direction has been measured for the first time in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}$ = 200 GeV. The polarization dependence on the hyperons' emission angle relative to the second-order event plane exhibits a sine modulation, indicating a quadrupole pattern of the vorticity component along the beam direction. The polarization is found to increase in more peripheral collisions, and shows no strong transverse momentum ($p_T$) dependence at $p_T>1$ GeV/$c$. The magnitude of the signal is about five times smaller than those predicted by hydrodynamic and multiphase transport models; the observed phase of the emission angle dependence is also opposite to these model predictions. In contrast, blast-wave model calculations reproduce the modulation phase measured in the data and capture the centrality and transverse momentum dependence of the signal once the model is required to reproduce the azimuthal dependence of the Gaussian source radii measured via the Hanbury-Brown and Twiss intensity interferometry technique., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures, Submitted to Phys. We present measurements of the differential cross sections of inclusive $J/\psi$ meson production as a function of transverse momentum ($p_{T}^{J/\psi}$) using the $\mu^{+}\mu^{-}$ and $e^{+}e^{-}$ decay channels in proton+proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 510 and 500 GeV, respectively, recorded by the STAR detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. The measurement from the $\mu^{+}\mu^{-}$ channel is for 0 $< p_{T}^{J/\psi} <$ 9 GeV/$c$ and rapidity range $|y^{J/\psi}| < $ 0.4, and that from the $e^{+}e^{-}$ channel is for 4 $< p_{T}^{J/\psi} <$ 20 GeV/$c$ and $|y^{J/\psi}| < $ 1.0. The $\psi(2S)$ to $J/\psi$ ratio is also measured for 4 $< p_{T}^{\rm meson} <$ 12 GeV/$c$ through the $e^{+}e^{-}$ decay channel. Model calculations, which incorporate different approaches toward the $J/\psi$ production mechanism, are compared with experimental results and show reasonable agreement within uncertainties.

Abstract

We report the first measurement of rapidity-odd directed flow ($v_{1}$) for $D^{0}$ and $\overline{D^{0}}$ mesons at mid-rapidity ($|y| < 0.8$) in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 200\,GeV using the STAR detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. In 10--80\% Au+Au collisions, the slope of the $v_{1}$ rapidity dependence ($dv_{1}/dy$), averaged over $D^{0}$ and $\overline{D^{0}}$ mesons, is -0.080 $\pm$ 0.017 (stat.) $\pm$ 0.016 (syst.) for transverse momentum $p_{\rm T}$ above 1.5~GeV/$c$. The absolute value of $D^0$-meson $dv_1/dy$ is about 25 times larger than that for charged kaons, with 3.4$\sigma$ significance. These data give a unique insight into the initial tilt of the produced matter, and offer constraints on the geometric and transport parameters of the hot QCD medium created in relativistic heavy-ion collisions., Comment: Submitted to Phys. Abstract

According to the CPT theorem, which states that the combined operation of charge conjugation, parity transformation and time reversal must be conserved, particles and their antiparticles should have the same mass and lifetime but opposite charge and magnetic moment. Here, we test CPT symmetry in a nucleus containing a strange quark, more specifically in the hypertriton. This hypernucleus is the lightest one yet discovered and consists of a proton, a neutron, and a $\Lambda$ hyperon. With data recorded by the STAR detector{\cite{TPC,HFT,TOF}} at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider, we measure the $\Lambda$ hyperon binding energy $B_{\Lambda}$ for the hypertriton, and find that it differs from the widely used value{\cite{B_1973}} and from predictions{\cite{2019_weak, 1995_weak, 2002_weak, 2014_weak}}, where the hypertriton is treated as a weakly bound system. Our results place stringent constraints on the hyperon-nucleon interaction{\cite{Hammer2002, STAR-antiH3L}}, and have implications for understanding neutron star interiors, where strange matter may be present{\cite{Chatterjee2016}}. A precise comparison of the masses of the hypertriton and the antihypertriton allows us to test CPT symmetry in a nucleus with strangeness for the first time, and we observe no deviation from the expected exact symmetry.

Abstract

We report the energy dependence of mid-rapidity (anti-)deuteron production in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_\text{NN}} =\ $7.7, 11.5, 14.5, 19.6, 27, 39, 62.4, and 200 GeV, measured by the STAR experiment at RHIC. The yield of deuterons is found to be well described by the thermal model. The collision energy, centrality, and transverse momentum dependence of the coalescence parameter $B_2$ are discussed. We find that the values of $B_2$ for anti-deuterons are systematically lower than those for deuterons, indicating that the correlation volume of anti-baryons is larger than that of baryons at $\sqrt{s_\text{NN}}$ from 19.6 to 39 GeV. Abstract

We report the first measurements of a complete second-order cumulant matrix of net-charge, net-proton, and net-kaon multiplicity distributions for the first phase of the beam energy scan program at RHIC. This includes the centrality and, for the first time, the pseudorapidity window dependence of both diagonal and off-diagonal cumulants in Au+Au collisions at \sNN~= 7.7-200 GeV. Within the available acceptance of $|\eta|<0.5$, the cumulants grow linearly with the pseudorapidity window. Relative to the corresponding measurements in peripheral collisions, the ratio of off-diagonal over diagonal cumulants in central collisions indicates an excess correlation between net-charge and net-kaon, as well as between net-charge and net-proton. The strength of such excess correlation increases with the collision energy. The correlation between net-proton and net-kaon multiplicity distributions is observed to be negative at \sNN~= 200 GeV and change to positive at the lowest collision energy. Model calculations based on non-thermal (UrQMD) and thermal (HRG) production of hadrons cannot explain the data. These measurements will help map the QCD phase diagram, constrain hadron resonance gas model calculations, and provide new insights on the energy dependence of baryon-strangeness correlations. An erratum has been added to address the issue of self-correlation in the previously considered efficiency correction for off-diagonal cumulant measurement. Previously considered unidentified (net-)charge correlation results ($\sigma^{11}_{Q,p}$ and $\sigma^{11}_{Q,k})$ are now replaced with identified (net-)charge correlation ($\sigma^{11}_{Q^{PID},p}$ and $\sigma^{11}_{Q^{PID},k}$), Comment: Erratum: Phys. Abstract

The first ($v_1^{\text{even}}$), second ($v_2$) and third ($v_3$) harmonic coefficients of the azimuthal particle distribution at mid-rapidity, are extracted for charged hadrons and studied as a function of transverse momentum ($p_T$) and mean charged particle multiplicity density $\langle \mathrm{N_{ch}} \rangle$ in U+U ($\roots =193$~GeV), Au+Au, Cu+Au, Cu+Cu, $d$+Au and $p$+Au collisions at $\roots = 200$~GeV with the STAR Detector. For the same $\langle \mathrm{N_{ch}} \rangle$, the $v_1^{\text{even}}$ and $v_3$ coefficients are observed to be independent of collision system, while $v_2$ exhibits such a scaling only when normalized by the initial-state eccentricity ($\varepsilon_2$). The data also show that $\ln(v_2/\varepsilon_2)$ scales linearly with $\langle \mathrm{N_{ch}} \rangle^{-1/3}$. These measurements provide insight into initial-geometry fluctuations and the role of viscous hydrodynamic attenuation on $v_n$ from small to large collision systems.

Abstract

We present two-particle $p_{\rm t}$ correlations as a function of event centrality for Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 7.7, 11.5, 14.5, 19.6, 27, 39, 62.4, and 200 GeV at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider using the STAR detector. These results are compared to previous measurements from CERES at the Super Proton Synchrotron and from ALICE at the Large Hadron Collider. The data are compared with UrQMD model calculations and with a model based on a Boltzmann-Langevin approach incorporating effects from thermalization. The relative dynamical correlations for Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 200 GeV show a power law dependence on the number of participant nucleons and agree with the results for Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 2.76~ {\rm TeV}$ from ALICE. As the collision energy is lowered from $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 200 GeV to 7.7 GeV, the centrality dependence of the relative dynamical correlations departs from the power law behavior observed at the higher collision energies. In central collisions, the relative dynamical correlations increase with collision energy up to $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 200 GeV in contrast to previous measurements that showed little dependence on the collision energy., Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures
