Introduction: Maytenus macrocarpa (Chuchuhuasi) is an Amazonian Peruvian traditional plant, traditionally used as anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, antihemorrhagic and antidiarrheic agent. Also, chuchuhuasi is known as a master plant, attributing to it properties in the central nervous system. In addition, depression is a disorder of the mood that cause disability to millions of people around the world. For this reason, the aim of this study was to determinate the antidepressant and antipsychotic-like activity of the ethanolic extract of Maytenus macrocarpa. Methods: It was used the ethanolic extract of the leaves of Maytenus macrocarpa (EELMM) in female mice at the experimental model of the Forced Swim Test described by Porsolt. As control, it was used distillate water, fluoxetine and haloperidol. Results: The immobility time of the groups of EELMM has a mean of 38.26 ± 21.57, 84.32 ± 26.68 and 32.17 ± 25.55 for the doses of 750, 1000 and 1250 mg/Kg respectively; and the immobility time had a median of 7.5 [4.07 - 20.3] and 20.93 ± [17.63 - 23.75] for the doses of 500 mg/Kg and 1500 mg/Kg. It was seen a positive dose-response between the dose of 500 to 1000 mg/Kg (Pearson correlation of r=0.8339 and R=0.6954) and a negative dose-response between the dose of 1000 to 1500 mg/Kg. (Pearson correlation of r= -0.7590 and R= 0.5760). Conclusion: It was demonstrated the antidepressant-like activity of the ethanolic extract of the leaves of Maytenus macrocarpa with a dose of 500 mg/kg and an antipsychotic-like activity with a dose of 1000 mg/kg.

Objectives. To evaluate the frequency of publication and its associated factors by professors of scientific research in medical schools in Peru. Materials and methods. This was a cross-sectional study. We included all teachers of research courses from the 32 medical schools in Peru in 2011. The publication search was conducted using Google Scholar, Scopus and Medline. Both the crude and adjusted prevalence ratios (aPR) were calculated with confidence intervals at 95% using simple and multiple Poisson regression with robust variance. Results. Of the 201 university teachers, 43.8% had never published an article in a journal, 26.9% had an original article published in a journal indexed in Medline and 16.4% did so in the past two years. Only 3% had been corresponding authors in non-Peruvian, indexed journals Factors associated with having an original article published in Medline in the past two years were: being under 40 years of age (aPR 2.97, 95% CI: 1.21-7.32), being a professor at a university where a final thesis is required for graduation (aPR 8.84, 95% CI: 2.60-30.12) and working for a highly productive university (aPR 3.24, 95% CI: 1.03-10.20). Conclusions. The frequency of publication of research faculty in medical schools in Peru is low. Young university teachers and those working at scientifically productive universities were more likely to publish in an indexed journal.

Pharmacies are establishments frequently visited in search of a solution to a health problem, mainly in developing countries. According to the latest annual statistics from SUSALUD, in Peru, pharmacies and drugstore have become the preferred care options over the years, however, the outlook during the pandemic and the reason for their choice are unknown. This study aimed to determine if there is a preference for care in drugstores and pharmacies and if this preference is associated with demographic, geographic and socioeconomic factors, during the pandemic (period from April to December 2020). It is an analytical cross-sectional study and was carried out based on the National Household Survey (ENAHO) 2020, obtaining secondary data of 21,624 people, of which 13,824 did not seek care and only 8,400 participants sought care in a center formal health, where it was observed that pharmaceutical establishments were slightly higher (4206-50.1%) in relation to those who went to a health establishment (4194-49.9%). To determine the factors associated with the preference of pharmacies and pharmacies, bivariate and multivariate analysis was used. In relation to the geographical factor, the prevalence is higher due to the choice of pharmacies and drugstores in urban areas 31% (95% CI=1.24-1.38) of Metropolitan Lima compared to other regions followed by the Coastal region. In relation to demographic factors, the influence of the choice of pharmaceutical establishments was greater in the male sex in his role as head of the family, obtaining 7% (95% CI=0.88-0.97) more prevalence than women, it is also observed that as the age of household members increases, its prevalence decreases due to going to pharmacies and drugstores (PR=0.99 CI95%=0.99-1.00). In relation to socioeconomic factors, the greatest preference for pharmacies and drugstores was observed in users with a secondary educational level 17% (95% CI=1.10-1.25) and in those who had insurance 29% (95% CI=0.68-0.74). Likewise, it was determined that employment was not a significant factor for the choice of pharmacies and drugstores (PR=1.01 CI95%=0.96-1.06). Finally, regarding the main health problems for which users went to pharmaceutical establishments, they were: symptoms or discomfort (3,156 people) and illness (1,401 people) and the reasons for choosing to go to these establishments in a pandemic, They are: not considering the condition serious (1,734 people), self-medication (907 people) and other undetermined (1,120 people).

- Abstract
Background: Diseases related to enteroparasites are a serious public health problem., Objective: To assess the prevalence of enteroparasites in Peru and its relationship with the Human Development Index (HDI)., Material and Methods: A coproparasitological study using the direct method from children and adults from the communities of Pamplona Alta in Lima, the province of San Sebastián de Quera, Castillo Grande, Pillco Marca and Puelles in Huánuco, Llupa-Huaraz in Ancash, and Machaguay in Arequipa, Peru, was carried out from 2012 to 2016., Results: 864 samples were analyzed, and a total prevalence of 23.03% (199 cases) was found. The non-pathogenic protozoan Entamoeba coli, with 10.42% (90 cases), and the nematode Ascaris lumbricoides, with 6.37% (55 cases), were the most prevalent. PERMANOVA analysis based on the prevalences of enteroparasites in urban and rural areas of Peru showed differences among communities. The overall prevalence of urban communities was similar to that of the rural ones., Conclusions: Enteroparasitosis in Peru are not related to HDI. However, the levels of infestation by enteroparasites varied between the different communities, and they were related to the bioecological characteristics of parasites., (© 2021 Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social.)
