Motivation is a key factor for child development, but very few studies have examined child and family predictors of both child task and perceived motivation. Thus, the three aims of this 6-month longitudinal study in preschoolers with global developmental delays (GDD) were to explore: 1) differences between task and perceived motivation in cognitive domain; 2) differences among three domains of perceived motivation: cognitive, gross motor, and social; and 3) early child and family predictors of cognitive task motivation and the three domains of perceived motivation 6 months later. Results indicated that preschoolers with GDD showed higher cognitive task motivation than cognitive perceived motivation, and lower perceived cognitive motivation than the other two perceived motivation domains. Different child and family factors predicted cognitive task motivation and the three domains of perceived motivation. Practitioners should educate caregivers on how to observe children's motivation to enhance children's active participation.

BackgroundSocial media has become increasingly important as a source of information for the public and is widely used for health-related information. The outbreak of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has exerted a negative impact on dental practices. ObjectiveThe aim of this study is to analyze the nature and diffusion of COVID-19–related oral health information on the Chinese social media site Weibo. MethodsA total of 15,900 tweets related to oral health and dentistry information from Weibo during the COVID-19 outbreak in China (December 31, 2019, to March 16, 2020) were included in our study. Two researchers coded 1000 of the total tweets in advance, and two main thematic categories with eight subtypes were refined. The included tweets were analyzed over time and geographic region, and coded into eight thematic categories. Additionally, the time distributions of tweets containing information about dental services, needs of dental treatment, and home oral care during the COVID-19 epidemic were further analyzed. ResultsPeople reacted rapidly to the emerging severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 threat to dental services, and a large amount of COVID-19–related oral health information was tweeted on Weibo. The time and geographic distribution of tweets shared similarities with epidemiological data of the COVID-19 outbreak in China. Tweets containing home oral care and dental services content were the most frequently exchanged information (n=4803/15,900, 30.20% and n=4478, 28.16%, respectively). Abstract Quantum sensing has emerged as a powerful technique to detect and measure physical and chemical parameters with exceptional precision. One of the methods is to use optically active spin defects within solid-state materials. These defects act as sensors and have made significant progress in recent years, particularly in the realm of two-dimensional (2D) spin defects. In this article, we focus on the latest trends in quantum sensing that use spin defects in van der Waals (vdW) materials. We discuss the benefits of combining optically addressable spin defects with 2D vdW materials while highlighting the challenges and opportunities to use these defects. To make quantum sensing practical and applicable, the article identifies some areas worth further exploration. These include identifying spin defects with properties suitable for quantum sensing, generating quantum defects on demand with control of their spatial localization, understanding the impact of layer thickness and interface on quantum sensing, and integrating spin defects with photonic structures for new functionalities and higher emission rates. The article explores the potential applications of quantum sensing in several fields, such as superconductivity, ferromagnetism, 2D nanoelectronics, and biology. For instance, combining nanoscale microfluidic technology with nanopore and quantum sensing may lead to a new platform for DNA sequencing. As materials technology continues to evolve, and with the advancement of defect engineering techniques, 2D spin defects are expected to play a vital role in quantum sensing.

Abstract Determining the genetic contributions to Parkinson’s disease (PD) across diverse ancestries is a high priority as this work can guide therapeutic development in a global setting. The genetics of PD spans the etiological risk spectrum, from rare, highly deleterious variants linked to monogenic forms with Mendelian patterns of inheritance, to common variation involved in sporadic disease. A major limitation in PD genomics research is lack of racial and ethnic diversity. Enrollment disparities have detrimental consequences on the generalizability of results and exacerbate existing inequities in care. The Black and African American Connections to Parkinson’s Disease (BLAAC PD) study is part of the Global Parkinson’s Genetics Program, supported by the Aligning Science Across Parkinson’s initiative. The goal of the study is to investigate the genetic architecture underlying PD risk and progression in the Black and/or African American populations. This cross-sectional multicenter study in the United States has a recruitment target of up to 2,000 individuals with PD and up to 2,000 controls, all of Black and/or African American ancestry. The study design incorporates several strategies to reduce barriers to research participation. The multifaceted recruitment strategy aims to involve individuals with and without PD in various settings, emphasizing community outreach and engagement. The BLAAC PD study is an important first step toward informing understanding of the genetics of PD in a more diverse population.

Abstract The Parkinson’s Families Project is a UK-wide study aimed at identifying genetic variation associated with familial and early-onset Parkinson’s disease (PD). We recruited individuals with a clinical diagnosis of PD and age at motor symptom onset ≤45 years and/or a family history of PD in up to third-degree relatives. Where possible, we also recruited affected and unaffected relatives. We analysed DNA samples with a combination of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) array genotyping, multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA), and whole-genome sequencing (WGS). We investigated the association between identified pathogenic mutations and demographic and clinical factors such as age at motor symptom onset, family history, motor symptoms (MDS-UPDRS) and cognitive performance (MoCA). We performed baseline genetic analysis in 718 families, of which 205 had sporadic early-onset PD (sEOPD), 113 had familial early-onset PD (fEOPD), and 400 had late-onset familial PD (fLOPD). 69 (9.6%) of these families carried pathogenic variants in known monogenic PD-related genes. The rate of a molecular diagnosis increased to 28.1% in PD with motor onset ≤35 years. We identified pathogenic variants in LRRK2 in 4.2% of families, and biallelic pathogenic variants in PRKN in 3.6% of families. We also identified two families with SNCA duplications and three families with a pathogenic repeat expansion in ATXN2, as well as single families with pathogenic variants in VCP, PINK1, PNPLA6, PLA2G6, SPG7, GCH1, and RAB32. An additional 73 (10.2%) families were carriers of at least one pathogenic or risk GBA1 variant. Most early-onset and familial PD cases do not have a known genetic cause, indicating that there are likely to be further monogenic causes for PD.

Abstract Rhein, a component derived from rhubarb, has been proven to possess anti-inflammatory properties. Here, we show that rhein mitigates obesity by promoting adipose tissue thermogenesis in diet-induced obese mice. We construct a macrophage-adipocyte co-culture system and demonstrate that rhein promotes adipocyte thermogenesis through inhibiting NLRP3 inflammasome activation in macrophages. Moreover, clues from acetylome analysis identify SIRT2 as a potential drug target of rhein. We further verify that rhein directly interacts with SIRT2 and inhibits NLRP3 inflammasome activation in a SIRT2-dependent way. Myeloid knockdown of SIRT2 abrogates adipose tissue thermogenesis and metabolic benefits in obese mice induced by rhein. Together, our findings elucidate that rhein inhibits NLRP3 inflammasome activation in macrophages by regulating SIRT2, and thus promotes white adipose tissue thermogenesis during obesity. These findings uncover the molecular mechanism underlying the anti-inflammatory and anti-obesity effects of rhein, and suggest that rhein may become a potential drug for treating obesity.

CoCrNi medium-entropy alloys (MEAs) have attracted extensive attention and research because of their superior mechanical properties, such as higher ductility, strength, and toughness. This study uses molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to investigate the cutting behavior of a gradient nanograined (GNG) CoCrNi MEA. Moreover, it explores the influence of relative tool sharpness and rake angle on the cutting process. The results show that an increase in the average grain size of the GNG samples leads to a decrease in the average resultant cutting force, as predicted by the Hall–Petch relationship. The deformation behavior shows that grain boundaries are crucial in inhibiting the propagation of strain and stress. As the average grain size of the GNG sample increases, the range of shear strain distribution and average von Mises stress decreases. Moreover, the cutting chips become thinner and longer. The subsurface damage is limited to a shallow layer at the surface. Since thermal energy is generated in the high grain boundary density, the temperature of the contact zone between the substrate and the cutting tool increases as the GNG size decreases. The cutting chips removed from the GNG CoCrNi MEA substrates will transform into a mixed structure of face-centered cubic and hexagonally close-packed phases. The sliding and twisting of grain boundaries and the merging of grains are essential mechanisms for polycrystalline deformation. Regarding the cutting parameters, the average resultant force, the material accumulation, and the chip volume increase significantly with the increase in cutting depth. In contrast to sharp tools, which mainly use shear deformation, blunt tools remove material by plowing, and the cutting force increases with the increase in cutting-edge radius and negative rake angle.

Previous studies have demonstrated the toxic effects of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) and heavy metals on the reproductive system. However, the interactions and combined effects of these substances remain unexplored. This study utilizes data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey to investigate the associations between coexposure to four types of PFASs, lead (Pb), mercury (Hg) and self-reported pregnancy loss and reproductive lifespan in females. Genes associated with these substances and abortion were identified via the Comparative Toxicogenomics Database. The results revealed that Ln-PFOA (IRR=1.88, 95 % CI=1.42–2.50, Ln--: log transformed), Ln-PFOS (IRR=1.58, 95 % CI=1.12–2.22), Ln-PFHxS (IRR=1.99, 95 % CI=1.57–2.52), and Ln-Hg (IRR=1.92, 95 % CI=1.41–2.43) were positively associated with the risk of pregnancy loss. Ln-PFOA (β=1.27, 95 % CI=0.28–2.27), Ln-PFOS (β=1.01, 95 % CI=0.39–1.63), Ln-PFHxS (β=0.71, 95 % CI=0.12–1.63), Ln-PFNA (β=1.15, 95 % CI=0.23–2.08), Ln-Pb (β=3.87, 95 % CI=2.58–5.15), and Ln-Hg (β=1.01, 95 % CI=0.39–1.64) exposures were positively associated with reproductive lifespan. The mixed and overall effects of coexposure to PFASs and heavy metals were positively correlated with the risk of pregnancy loss and reproductive lifespan. Cholesterol partially mediated the association with the risk of pregnancy loss, whereas delay in menopause fully mediated the association with reproductive lifespan. Significant additive interactions were observed between PFOA and Pb and between PFOS, PFHxS, PFNA and Hg at high levels of coexposure. Thirty-nine overlapping genes associated with abortion were identified for these substances, and further analyses revealed that these genes significantly interact and may contribute to abortion through oxidative stress.

IntroductionLong-term use of chemical fertilizers (CFs) can cause soil compaction and acidification. In recent years, bio-organic fertilizers (BOFs) have begun to replace CFs in some vegetables and cash crops, but the application of CFs or BOFs has resulted in crop quality and disease occurrence.MethodsThis study aimed to analyze the microbial mechanism of differences between CFs and BOFs in root disease, quality, and yield of tuber Chinese herbal medicine. We studied the effects of CFs, organic fertilizers, commercial BOFs, biocontrol bacteria BOFs, and biocontrol fungi BOFs on rhizosphere microbial community structure and function, root rot, quality, and yield of Codonopsis pilosula at different periods after application and analyzed the correlation.Results and discussionCompared to CFs, the emergence rate and yield in BOF treatments were increased by 21.12 and 33.65%, respectively, and the ash content, water content, and disease index in the BOF treatments were decreased by 17.87, 8.19, and 76.60%, respectively. The structural equation model showed that CFs promoted the quality and yield of C. pilosula by influencing soil environmental factors, while BOFs directly drove soil bacterial community to reduce disease index and improve the quality and yield of C. pilosula. There was a stronger interaction and stability of soil microbial networks after BOF treatments. Microlunatus, Rubrobacter, Luteitalea, Nakamurella, and Pedomicrobium were identified as effector bacteria, which were related to disease prevention and yield and quality increase of C. pilosula. Microbial functional analysis indicated that the signal transduction and amino acid metabolism of soil bacteria might play a major role in improving the quality and yield of C. pilosula in the early and middle growth stages. In conclusion, compared to CFs, BOFs obtained a lower disease index of root rot and a higher quality and yield of C. pilosula by changing the structure and function of the rhizosphere bacterial community.

ObjectivesSignificant increase in tacrolimus exposure was observed during co-administration with voriconazole, and no population pharmacokinetic model exists for tacrolimus in renal transplant recipients receiving voriconazole. To achieve target tacrolimus concentrations, an optimal dosage regimen is required. This study aims to develop individualized dosing parameters through population pharmacokinetic analysis and simulate tacrolimus concentrations under different dosage regimens.MethodsWe conducted a retrospective study of renal transplant recipients who were hospitalized at the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University between January 2016 and March 2021. Subsequently, pharmacokinetic analysis and Monte Carlo simulation were employed for further analysis.ResultsNineteen eligible patients receiving tacrolimus and voriconazole co-therapy were included in the study. We collected 167 blood samples and developed a one-compartment model with first-order absorption and elimination to describe the pharmacokinetic properties of tacrolimus. The final typical values for tacrolimus elimination rate constant (Ka), apparent volume of distribution (V/F), and apparent oral clearance (CL/F) were 8.39 h−1, 2690 L, and 42.87 L/h, respectively. Key covariates in the final model included voriconazole concentration and serum creatinine. Patients with higher voriconazole concentration had lower tacrolimus CL/F and V/F. In addition, higher serum creatinine levels were associated with lower tacrolimus CL/F.ConclusionOur findings suggest that clinicians can predict tacrolimus concentration and estimate optimal tacrolimus dosage based on voriconazole concentration and serum creatinine. The effect of voriconazole concentration on tacrolimus concentration was more significant than serum creatinine. These findings may inform clinical decision-making in the management of tacrolimus and voriconazole therapy in solid organ transplant recipients.

The development of light-field imaging principles has provided new insights and directions for diagnostic multi-physical fields. The light-field camera, based on the principles of light-field imaging, captures the angle information of incident light rays, through a micro-lens array between the main lens and the sensor. Researchers have developed various multi-physics diagnostic techniques based on the principles of light-field imaging. Firstly, the light-field particle image velocimetry (LF-PIV) technique was introduced. It utilized a light-field camera to capture particle images of a complex three-dimensional flow field. Applying three-dimensional calibration, reconstruction and cross-correlation algorithms subsequently gene-rated the three-dimensional velocity field. It ensures measurement accuracy while capturing a three-dimensional three-component velocity field. Moreover, it effectively reduces the device size for velocity field measurements within constrained spaces. Secondly, the application of light-field cameras in the field of shape measurements was introduced. The light-field camera can capture three-dimensional point cloud information of the object′s surface by a single camera and a single shot. This not only significantly reduces measurement time but also simplifies imaging equipment, enabling three-dimensional topography measurement of film-cooling holes. Thirdly, applying light-field camera in the field of temperature measurement can simplify spectral separation methods, leading to the streamlining of temperature measurement systems. Finally, the light-field multi-physics diagnostic technology was summarized, and the endoscopic light-field and meta-lens-based light-field diagnostic technology was prospected.

In human body, the endocrine system, nervous system and immune system jointly shoulder the important responsibility of life support. Hormones are the material basis for coordination of endocrine system. Steroid hormones, also known as steride hormone, belong to a large category of hormones. The synthesis process of steroid hormones takes cholesterol as the precursor. Through the participation of various metabolic enzymes, steroid hormones are synthesized in the human adrenal cortex, mitochondria of placental cells, smooth Endoplasmic reticulum and gonads, producing 21C, 19C or 18C-backbones with different chemical structures. According to pharmacological effects, steroid hormones are mainly divided into progestogens, corticosteroids and sex hormones, which play an important role in regulating human growth, development, reproduction and maintaining the stability of human body environment. In clinical practice, the level of steroid hormones is used as diagnostic indicator for adrenal and psychiatric diseases. Therefore, accurate determination of steroid hormone content is very important. Steroid hormones in the human body can be detected using various methods, such as radioimmunoassay, chemiluminescence immunoassay, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS), and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Mass spectrometry has obvious advantages in terms of detection sensitivity and accuracy compared with immunoassay. GC-MS has been the main technique for steroid analysis due to its high specificity, wide analyte coverage, and sufficient sensitivity. However, the samples need to be derivatized, and the experimental processes are tedious. LC-MS/MS has the inherent advantages of high sensitivity and specificity, and has a high-throughput characteristic, thus it is an ideal tool for routine diagnosis. At present, common pretreatment techniques for serum samples include protein precipitation, liquid-liquid extraction, and solid phase extraction. Some new pretreatment methods have emerged in recent years, such as dispersed liquid-liquid extraction, ultrasonic-assisted extraction, and supramolecular extraction. Each pretreatment technique has its own advantages and disadvantages. For example, solid phase extraction (SPE) can achieve good recovery but requires more time and economic factors. In selection of pretreatment methods, the physical and chemical properties of analytes, the characteristics of matrices, the simplicity and durability of method establishment, and time, reliability, and cost required should be comprehensively considered. This article reviewed the application of LC-MS/MS in the determination of endogenous steroid hormones, especially in sample pretreatment, chromatographic and mass spectrometric conditions, so as to provide more accurate basis for clinical diagnosis and treatment based on steroid hormones.

Objective To detect the expressions of X-box binding protein 1 unspliced （xbp1u） and X-box binding protein 1 spliced （xbp1s） mRNA in peripheral blood CD19+B cells of patients with lupus nephritis （LN） and healthy subjects and explore the clinical significance of XBP1 in LN patients. Methods The expression levels of xbp1u and xbp1s in peripheral blood CD19+B cells of 65 LN patients and 30 healthy controls were detected by real-time polymerase chain reaction （RT-PCR）. And the ratio of CD19−CD138+plasma cells/CD19+B cells in peripheral blood was detected by flow cytometry. Results The expression level of xbp1u mRNA in CD19+B cells of active LN group （0.078±0.034） was higher than that in control group（0.035±0.011）（P＜0.05） and in stable group（0.049±0.016）（P＜0.05）. The expression level of xbp1s mRNA in CD19+B cells of active LN group（0.076±0.037）was higher than that in control group（0.022±0.010）（P＜0.05） and stable group（0.043±0.017）（P＜0.05）. The ratio of CD19−CD138+ plasma cells /CD19+B cells in LN group（0.059±0.024）was significantly higher than that in control group （P＜0.01） and stable group （0.073±0.036）（P＜0.05）; XBP1 expression in LN patients was correlated positively with the ratio of CD19−CD138+ plasma cells/CD19+B cells （r value = 0.138 & 0.036）, positively with anti-ds-DNA antibody and systemic lupus erythematosus disease activity index（SLEDAI）score （r value = 0.417 & 0.058） and negatively with hemoglobin and complement C3 （r value = −0.559 & −0.219）. Conclusion The expressions of xbp1u and xbp1s mRNA in peripheral blood mononuclear cells of LN patients in active group are higher than those in healthy group. Both are correlated positively with SLEDAI score and anti-DS DNA antibody. The expression of XBP1 is up-regulated in B cells of LN patients and it is significantly correlated with plasma cells. It implies that XBP1 may participate in the pathogenesis of LN through promoting the differentiation of B cells.

ABSTRACTBackground Maintaining proper immune function and hormone status is important for athletes to avoid upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) and insufficient recovery, which is detrimental to sport performance and health. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether three-week supplementation of L-glutamine could benefit the mucosal immunity and hormonal status of combat-sport athletes as well as their rates of upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) and subjective feelings of well-being after intensive training.Methods Twenty-one combat-sport athletes from the National Taiwan University of Sport were recruited in this study. After intensive training, two groups of the participants were asked to consume powder form of 0.3 g/kg body weight of L-glutamine (GLU group) or maltodextrin (PLA group) with drinking water in a randomized design at the same time every day during 3 weeks. Saliva samples were collected to measure immunoglobulin A (IgA), nitric oxide (NO), testosterone (T) and cortisol (C) before and after three-week supplementation; moreover, Hooper’s index questionnaires were completed for wellness assessment. The incidence and duration of URTI were recorded by using a health checklist throughout the entire study period.Results Supplementation of L-glutamine significantly enhanced the concentrations of IgA and NO in saliva; additionally, the incidence of URTI was significantly reduced. Regarding hormones, T concentration was significantly decreased in the PLA group, whereas C concentration was significantly increased, resulting in a significant decrease of T/C ratio. In contrast, the GLU group showed a significant increase of T/C ratio, while the mood scores of the Hooper’s index questionnaire were higher in the PLA group.Conclusions Three-week supplementation of L-glutamine after intensive training enhanced the mucosal immunity, improved hormonal status and reduced the rate of URTI of combat-sport athletes while feelings of well-being were also enhanced. Therefore, L-glutamine would be beneficial for the sports performance and recovery of athletes.

Recent advances highlight the potential of low-carbon concrete using recycled aggregates from precast rejects. This material, called precast recycled aggregate concrete (PRAC), shows superior properties compared to traditional recycled aggregate concrete. However, accurately predicting PRAC’s mechanical properties remains challenging due to numerous influencing variables. This challenge is further compounded when PRAC’s design must align with mechanical, economic and ecological objectives. In light of these challenges, this study presents a framework that leverages Bayesian model updating and metaheuristic techniques to optimize PRAC’s mix proportions. Initially, a comprehensive database was compiled from existing literature. Subsequently, employing Bayesian model updating, two definitive expressions were established linking PRAC’s mechanical strengths to key variables. Finally, a multi-objective optimization approach, integrating the posterior model and the Cuckoo search algorithm, was devised to identify optimal mix designs for PRAC. The proposed models adeptly capture PRAC’s nuanced property trends, while the Bayesian-Cuckoo search hybrid significantly expedites the mix optimization process. Results advocate for a minimum of 60 % recycled aggregate substitution to strike a balance between PRAC’s strength and environmental impact. In essence, this framework furnishes dependable solutions for PRAC formulations and demonstrates adaptability for potential use in broader concrete mix design scenarios.

Alkali-activated concrete (AAC), produced from industrial by-products like fly ash and slag, offers a promising alternative to traditional Portland cement concrete by significantly reducing carbon emissions. Yet, the inherent variability in AAC formulations presents a challenge for accurately predicting its compressive strength using conventional approaches. To address this, we leverage machine learning (ML) techniques, which enable more precise strength predictions based on a combination of material properties and cement mix design parameters. In this study, we curated an extensive dataset comprising 1756 unique AAC mixtures to support robust ML-based modeling. Four distinct input variable schemes were devised to identify the optimal predictor set, and a comparative analysis was performed to evaluate their effectiveness. After this, we investigated the performance of several popular ML algorithms, including random forest (RF), adaptive boosting (AdaBoost), gradient boosting regression trees (GBRTs), and extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost). Among these, the XGBoost model consistently outperformed its counterparts. To further enhance the predictive accuracy of the XGBoost model, we applied four state-of-the-art optimization techniques: the Gray Wolf Optimizer (GWO), Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA), beetle antennae search (BAS), and Bayesian optimization (BO). The optimized XGBoost model delivered superior performance, achieving a remarkable coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.99 on the training set and 0.94 across the entire dataset. Finally, we employed SHapely Additive exPlanations (SHAP) to imbue the optimized model with interpretability, enabling deeper insights into the complex relationships governing AAC formulations. Through the lens of ML, we highlight the benefits of the multi-faceted synergistic approach for AAC strength prediction, which combines careful input parameter selection, optimal hyperparameter tuning, and enhanced model interpretability. This integrated strategy improves both the robustness and scalability of the model, offering a clear and reliable prediction of AAC performance.

N1-methyladenosine (m1A) modification is a crucial post-transcriptional regulatory mechanism of messenger RNA (mRNA) in living organisms. Few studies have focused on analysis of m1A regulators in lower-grade gliomas (LGG). We employed the Nonnegative Matrix Factorization (NMF) technique on The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) dataset to categorize LGG patients into 2 groups. These groups exhibited substantial disparities in terms of both overall survival (OS) and levels of infiltrating immune cells. We collected the significantly differentially expressed immune-related genes between the 2 clusters, and performed LASSO regression analysis to obtain m1AScores, and established an m1A-related immune-related gene signature (m1A-RIGS). Next, we categorized all patients with LGG into high- and low-risk subgroups, predictive significance of m1AScore was confirmed by conducting univariate/multivariate Cox regression analyses. Additionally, we confirmed variations in immune-related cells and ssGSEA and among the high-/low-risk subcategories in the TCGA dataset. Finally, our study characterized the effects of MSR1 and BIRC5 on LGG cells utilizing Edu assay and flow cytometry to explore the effects of modulation of these genes on glioma. The results of this study suggested that m1A-RIGS may be an excellent prognostic indicator for patients with LGG, and could also promote development of novel immune-based treatment strategies for LGG. Additionally, BIRC5 and MSR1 may be potential therapeutic targets for LGG.

Strigolactones (SLs) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) have both been shown to play important roles in plant growth, development, and environmental adaption. At present, there was no reported on the mechanism by which SLs might participate in H2S-induced salt tolerance. In this study, tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L. ‘Micro-Tom’) was used to investigate the role of SLs and H2S and their relationship under salt stress. Our results show that 25 µM H2S donor sodium hydrosulfide (NaHS) and 15 µM SLs synthetic analogue GR24 significantly promoted tomato seedling growth under salt stress. TIS108 (3 µM, a SLs synthesis inhibitor) and hypotaurine (HT, 300 µM, a H2S scavenger) inhibited the positive role of NaHS and GR24 under salt stress, respectively. Meanwhile, NaHS treatment significantly increased endogenous SL content, the activity of SL synthesis-related enzymes CCD7 and CCD8, and the expression of SL synthesis-related genes (SlD27, SlD14, SlMAX1, and SlMAX2) under salt stress. Further, after silencing a SL synthesis-related gene SlD27, the relieving role of NaHS in salt stress was basically eliminated. Silencing of SlD27 decreased endogenous SL content, while NaHS did not enhance the endogenous SL content in SlD27-silencing seedling. Therefore, H2S might enhance salt tolerance in tomato seedlings by up-regulating the expression of SL synthesis-related gene SlD27.

Combined with the oxidizer anions and fuel cations, molecular perovskite energetic materials show a good potential. In this work, the combustion behavior and mechanism of metal fuel aluminium (Al) with molecular perovskite energetic material (H2dabco)[NH4(ClO4)3] (DAP-4) as a high-energy oxidant was investigated. The DAP-4 based composites with metal fuel Al were designed and fabricated by the different mass ratios. Results showed that DAP-4 exhibits a good oxygen-supplied capacity for enhancing the combustion performance of Al. The maximum combustion heat of DAP-4/Al-3 at the Al/O mass ratio of 38:62 is up to 10,412 J/g in the inert gas, which is higher than those of other ratios and the mixtures of other energetic materials and Al. The evolution of pressure output, pressurization rate, and flame temperature was monitored for DAP-4/Al with different mass ratios. Composites DAP-4/Al/F were characterized by burning rates. The combustion reaction mechanism of metal fuel Al with DAP-4 as a high-energy oxidant was provided. DAP-4 was ignited firstly and released acid and oxidizing gases, which corroded Al2O3 shells on Al particle surfaces and accelerated the combustion reaction with Al to release a lot of energy. This work offered a new idea that molecular perovskite energetic materials have great potential in the high-energy Al-based solid rocket propellants.

Glioblastoma represents the predominant and a highly aggressive primary neoplasm of the central nervous system that has an abnormal metabolism. Our previous study showed that chrysomycin A (Chr-A) curbed glioblastoma progression in vitro and in vivo. However, whether Chr-A could inhibit orthotopic glioblastoma and how it reshapes metabolism are still unclear. In this study, Chr-A markedly suppressed the development of intracranial U87 gliomas. The results from airflow-assisted desorption electrospray ionization mass spectrometry imaging (AFADESI-MSI) indicated that Chr-A improved the abnormal metabolism of mice with glioblastoma. Key enzymes including glutaminase (GLS), glutamate dehydrogenases 1 (GDH1), hexokinase 2 (HK2) and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) were regulated by Chr-A. Chr-A further altered the level of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH), thus causing oxidative stress with the downregulation of Nrf-2 to inhibit glioblastoma. Our study offers a novel perspective for comprehending the anti-glioma mechanism of Chr-A, highlighting its potential as a promising chemotherapeutic agent for glioblastoma.
