A total of 1364 donors donated 2434.63 liters of qualified human milk, for RMB 1,791,000 (USD 257, 202), ie, RMB 385.3 (USD 55.3)/L; 97.8% of the donors were preterm puerperae, and 59% of the donors donated between 1 week and 1 month after delivery. All recipients were preterm infants and received donated human milk for a duration of 9.4 days on average. During the four years of operation, the proportion of donors who had previously received donated milk among all donors showed an overall increasing trend, while the incidence of NEC in preterm infants gradually decreased.Conclusions: The increasingly optimized structure of donors, the more economical operation, and the fact that the use of donated milk may not affect breastfeeding of the recipients have made it a human milk bank operation mode worthy of promotion.Keywords: donated human milk, human milk bank, NEC, operating cost, preterm infants

Nevertheless, there have been few studies reported concerning the therapeutic efficacy of paclitaxel-conjugated polymeric micelles in human esophageal cancer in vivo. Therefore, the aim of this research was to investigate the tumor inhibition effect of composite micelles containing folic acid and paclitaxel on the human esophageal EC9706 cancer cell line.Methods and results: Intravenous administration of folate-targeted, paclitaxel-loaded micelles was demonstrated to be more efficient in inhibiting subcutaneous xenograft tumors and extending the survival rate of tumor-bearing nude mice than free paclitaxel and plain paclitaxel micelles at an equivalent paclitaxel dose of 20 mg/kg, which was further backed up by flow cytometry, TUNEL, and expression of apoptosis-related proteins, including Bax, Bcl2, and caspase 3 in this study.Conclusion: The folate-mediated paclitaxel-loaded polymeric micelle is a promising agent for the treatment of human esophageal cancer.Keywords: esophageal cancer, folate, paclitaxel, polymer-drug conjugate, targeted drug delivery

Background: With the adjustment of China's birth policy, the repeat cesarean sections raises concerns about potential gastrointestinal mechanical injuries and disturbances in gastrointestinal neurohormonal regulation, affecting the postoperative recovery of gastrointestinal function. These affect maternal nutritional status, prolong recovery, extend hospitalization, increase medical costs, and lead to neonatal care challenges.This study is to examine the effects of different postoperative feeding protocols on the restoration of gastrointestinal function in women undergoing repeat cesarean section., Methods: A total of 103 women were randomly assigned to three groups: experimental group A (n = 35), experimental group B (n = 34), and a control group (n = 34). In group A, women without choking symptoms received a clear fluid diet postoperatively, followed by a pureed diet after 6 h, and a regular soft diet after passing flatus. In group B, women chewed gum postoperatively, followed by a clear fluid diet after 2 h, a pureed diet after 6 h, and a regular soft diet after passing flatus. The control group received a clear fluid diet, a pureed diet after passing flatus, and a regular soft diet after defecation. Outcomes measured included recovery of gastrointestinal function, blood biochemical markers, comfort level, exclusive breastfeeding rate, and newborn weight loss., Results: The baseline maternal data across the three groups demonstrated no significant differences (P > 0.05). Both experimental groups A and B showed earlier recovery of postoperative gastrointestinal function compared to the control group, though there was no significant difference between the two experimental groups (P > 0.05). Additionally, postoperative comfort levels were significantly higher in both experimental groups than in the control group (P < 0.05)., Conclusions: Early feeding is safe and effective for women who underwent repeat cesarean sections.It has been shown to accelerate gastrointestinal recovery, significantly improve maternal comfort and satisfaction.In cases where immediate postoperative oral intake is not feasible, chewing gum demonstrates a comparable promotive effect, providing a viable substitute in facilitating recovery., Trial Registration: This trial has been prospectively registered at Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (ChiCTR2200065825) and the first registration date was 11/16/2022., Competing Interests: Declarations. We have synthesized two sialic acid derivatives substituted with an ortho -nitrobenzyl alcohol (o-NBA) group that can undergo light-mediated conjugation with primary amines at their 5- or 9-carbon position. The o-NBA derivatives were shown to react with multiple lysine residues of human serum albumin (HSA) when exposed to 365 nm light irradiation within 10 min. The resulting sugar conjugates were characterized by mass spectroscopy and used for fluorescence-based cell imaging.

Prior research show that relative deprivation can decrease individuals' psychological well-being. However, the underlying mechanism between relative deprivation and psychological well-being remains unclear. To explore the mediating effects of self-efficacy and self-control on the relationship between relative deprivation and psychological well-being. 426 undergraduate students submitted the online survey that assessed their psychological well-being, relative deprivation, self-efficacy and self-control. Students experienced high levels of psychological well-being, moderate to high levels of relative deprivation and moderate levels of self-efficacy and self-control. Parallel mediators of self-efficacy and self-control on the relationship between relative deprivation and psychological well-being were significant (each p < 0.01). This study explores the underlying mechanism between relative deprivation and psychological well-being by identifying the parallel mediators of self-efficacy and self-control. Effective interventions should be taken to alleviate students' relative deprivation and promote their self-efficacy, self-control and psychological well-being during future pandemics., (© 2024. Bacterial evolution, particularly in hospital settings, is leading to an increase in multidrug resistance. Understanding the basis for this resistance is critical as it can drive discovery of new antibiotics while allowing the clinical use of known antibiotics to be optimized. Here, we report a photoactive chemical probe for superresolution microscopy that allows for the in situ probing of antibiotic-induced structural disruption of bacteria. Conjugation between a spiropyran (SP) and galactose via click chemistry produces an amphiphilic photochromic glycoprobe, which self-assembles into glycomicelles in water. The hydrophobic inner core of the glycomicelles allows encapsulation of antibiotics. Photoirradiation then serves to convert the SP to the corresponding merocyanine (MR) form. This results in micellar disassembly allowing for release of the antibiotic in an on-demand fashion. The glycomicelles of this study adhere selectively to the surface of a Gram-negative bacterium through multivalent sugar-lectin interaction. Antibiotic release from the glycomicelles then induces membrane collapse. This dynamic process can be imaged in situ by superresolution spectroscopy owing to the "fluorescence blinking" of the SP/MR photochromic pair. O-GlcNAcase (OGA) is implicated in several important biological and disease-relevant processes. Here, we synthesized fluorogenic probes for OGA by grafting GlcNAc directly or using a self-immolative linker to the hydroxyl position of 4-hydroxylisoindoline (BHID), a typical excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) probe. The probe was used for a fluorogenic assay to determine the half maximal inhibitory concentration of a known OGA inhibitor and differentiate between OGA and hexosaminidase when GlcNAc is replaced by GlcNPr, where a propionyl group is used instead of an acetyl group.

The devastating COVID-19 pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has made society acutely aware of the urgency in developing effective techniques to timely monitor the outbreak of previously unknown viral species as well as their mutants, which could be even more lethal and/or contagious. Here, we report a fluorogenic sensor array consisting of peptides truncated from the binding domain of human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (hACE2) for SARS-CoV-2. A set of five fluorescently tagged peptides were used to construct the senor array in the presence of different low-dimensional quenching materials. When orthogonally incubated with the wild-type SARS-CoV-2 and its variants of concern (VOCs), the fluorescence of each peptide probe was specifically recovered, and the different recovery rates provide a "fingerprint" characteristic of each viral strain. This, in turn, allows them to be differentiated from each other using principal component analysis. Interestingly, the classification result from our sensor array agrees well with the evolutionary relationship similarity of the VOCs. This study offers insight into the development of effective sensing tools for highly contagious viruses and their mutants based on rationally truncating peptide ligands from human receptors.

A dicentric chromosome is an abnormal chromosome with two centromeres on the same chromosome. It has been reported that dicentric chromosomes are specific biomarkers of radiation exposure, but dicentric chromosomes are rarely identified in newborns with multiple congenital anomalies. At 16 weeks of gestation, a 39-year-old pregnant woman (gravida 2, para 1) was referred to the prenatal diagnosis center for genetic counseling. The fetal ultrasonography indicated multiple anomalies. Subsequently, amniocentesis was performed, and the G-banding karyotype analysis showed a rare type of mosaicism. The C-banding karyotype analysis indicated a pseudo-dicentric chromosome X [psu dic (X; 18) (p11.2; p11.2)]. A single-nucleotide polymorphism array (SNP array) revealed three pathogenic copy number variations (CNVs). After genetic counseling, the parents chose to terminate this pregnancy. Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a severe clinical syndrome with pulmonary vascular remodeling and poor long-term prognosis. Neurotensin receptor 1 (Ntsr1), serve as one of the G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), implicates in various biological processes, but the potential effects of Ntsr1 in PH development are unclear. The Sugen/Hypoxia (SuHx) or monocrotaline (MCT) induced rat PH model was used in our study and the PH rats showed aggravated pulmonary artery remodeling and increased right ventricular systolic pressure (RVSP). Our results revealed that Ntsr1 induced endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress response via ATF6 activation contributed to the development of PH. Moreover, RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq) and phosphoproteomics were performed and the Ntsr1-JAK2-STAT3-thrombospondin 1 (Thbs1)-ATF6 signaling was distinguished as the key pathway. In vitro, pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells (PASMCs) under hypoxia condition showed enhanced proliferation and migration properties, which could be inhibited by Ntsr1 knockdown, JAK2 inhibitor (Fedratinib) treatment, STAT3 inhibitior (Stattic) treatment, Thbs1 knockdown or ATF6 knockdown. In addition, adeno-associated virus 1 (AAV1) were used to knockdown the expression of Ntsr1, Thbs1 or ATF6 in rats and reversed the phenotype of PH. In summary, our results reveal that Ntsr1-JAK2-STAT3-Thbs1 pathway can induce enhanced ER stress via ATF6 activation and increased PASMC proliferation and migration capacities, which can be mechanism of the pulmonary artery remodeling and PH. Background: Acral persistent papular mucinosis (APPM) is a rare idiopathic subtype of localized lichen myxedematosus. To date, there have been less than 41 APPM cases reported worldwide, however, almost all patients were older than 18 years of age. A 7-year-old child was first reported in this paper., Case Description: A 7-year-old boy was admitted to our hospital with a solitary skin-colored papule on the radial side of the middle segment of his right index finger. The patient wanted to know the exact diagnosis and remove it because the flexion movement of the middle segment had been affected. Thus, a surgery was performed. Histopathological examination of a biopsy specimen obtained from the papule on the radial side of the middle segment of his right index finger showed a focal and well-circumscribed deposit of mucin in the papillary and middermis. The deposit never extended deeply into the reticular dermis. Mucin spared a subepidermal area in the papillary dermis. Alcian blue stains can highlight the mucin. The papule was histologically diagnosed as an APPM and excised surgically. The wound gradually healed after the operation, and no obvious recurrence, scar or other discomfort was observed during follow-up so far., Conclusions: To the best of our knowledge, this is the rare case of a child APPM presenting as a solitary papule affecting the flexion movement of the middle segment. Although GaN is a promising candidate for semiconductor devices, degradation of GaN-based device performance may occur when the device is bombarded by high-energy charged particles during its application in aerospace, astronomy, and nuclear-related areas. It is thus of great significance to explore the influence of irradiation on the microstructure and electronic properties of GaN and to reveal the internal relationship between the damage mechanisms and physical characteristics. Using a combined density functional theory (DFT) and ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) study, we explored the low-energy recoil events in GaN and the effects of point defects on GaN. The threshold displacement energies ( E d s) significantly depend on the recoil directions and the primary knock-on atoms. Moreover, the E d values for nitrogen atoms are smaller than those for gallium atoms, indicating that the displacement of nitrogen dominates under electron irradiation and the created defects are mainly nitrogen vacancies and interstitials. The formation energy of nitrogen vacancies and interstitials is smaller than that for gallium vacancies and interstitials, which is consistent with the AIMD results. Although the created defects improve the elastic compliance of GaN, these radiation damage states deteriorate its ability to resist external compression. Meanwhile, these point defects lead the Debye temperature to decrease and thus increase the thermal expansion coefficients of GaN. As for the electronic properties of defective GaN, the point defects have various effects, i.e. , V N (N vacancy), Ga int (Ga interstitial), N int (N interstitial), and Ga N (Ga occupying the N lattice site) defects induce the metallicity, and N Ga (N occupying the Ga lattice site) defects decrease the band gap. The presented results provide underlying mechanisms for defect generation in GaN, and advance the fundamental understanding of the radiation resistances of semiconductor materials.

Background: The advent of cutting-edge systemic therapies has driven advances in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and therapeutic strategies with multiple modes of delivery have been shown to be more efficacious than monotherapy. However, the mechanisms underlying this innovative treatment modality have not been elucidated., Aim: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of targeted therapy plus immunotherapy combined with hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (HAIC) of FOLFOX in patients with unresectable HCC., Methods: We enrolled 53 patients with unresectable HCC who received a combination of targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and HAIC of FOLFOX between December 2020 and June 2021 and assessed the efficacy and safety of the treatment regimen., Results: The objective response rate was 60.4% (32/53), complete response was 24.5% (13/53), partial response was 35.9% (19/53), and stable disease was 39.6% (21/53). The median duration of response and median progression-free survival were 9.1 and 13.9 months, respectively. The surgical conversion rate was 34.0% (18/53), and 1-year overall survival was 83.0% without critical complicating diseases or adverse events (AEs)., Conclusion: The regimen of HAIC of FOLFOX, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy was curative for patients with unresectable HCC, with no serious AEs and a high rate of surgical conversion., (©The Author(s) 2024. Objectives: To develop a predictive model for patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) in preterm infants at seven days postpartum. The model employs ultrasound measurements of the ductus arteriosus (DA) intimal thickness (IT) obtained within 24 h after birth., Methods: One hundred and five preterm infants with gestational ages ranging from 27.0 to 36.7 weeks admitted within 24 h following birth were prospectively enrolled. Echocardiographic assessments were performed to measure DA IT within 24 h after birth, and DA status was evaluated through echocardiography on the seventh day postpartum. Potential predictors were considered, including traditional clinical risk factors, M-mode ultrasound parameters, lumen diameter of the DA (LD), and DA flow metrics. A final prediction model was formulated through bidirectional stepwise regression analysis and subsequently subjected to internal validation. The model's discriminative ability, calibration, and clinical applicability were also assessed., Results: The final predictive model included birth weight, application of mechanical ventilation, left ventricular end-diastolic diameter (LVEDd), LD, and the logarithm of IT (logIT). The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve for the model, predicated on logIT, exhibited excellent discriminative power with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.985 (95% CI: 0.966-1.000), sensitivity of 1.000, and specificity of 0.909. Moreover, the model demonstrated robust calibration and goodness-of-fit ( χ 2 value = 0.560, p  > 0.05), as well as strong reproducibility (accuracy: 0.935, Kappa: 0.773), as evidenced by 10-fold cross-validation. A decision curve analysis confirmed the model's broad clinical utility., Conclusions: Our study successfully establishes a predictive model for PDA in preterm infants at seven days postpartum, leveraging the measurement of DA IT. Objectives: In the rural regions of China, characterized by a pronounced aging demographic and limited resources, a substantial proportion of middle-aged and older adults engage in grandparenting roles. Yet, the literature lacks consistent evidence regarding the effects of grandparenting on the mental health of this cohort. Accordingly, this study aimed to explore the impact of grandparenting on the mental health of rural middle-aged and older adults, as well as the underlying mechanisms., Methods: This analysis encompassed 10,881 middle-aged and older adults, utilizing data from the 2018 Harmonized China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). The mental health of participants was assessed using the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression-10 (CESD-10) scale, while support from children was categorized into financial and emotional types. The study employed logistic and OLS regression models to identify the mediating role of child support and utilized the Karlson-Holm-Breen (KHB) method for decomposing this mediating effect., Results: The findings demonstrated that grandparenting had a significant negative impact on depression among rural middle-aged and older adults. Furthermore, children's support played a vital role in mediating this relationship, accounting for approximately one-third of the overall influence. Moreover, the decomposition analysis revealed that both emotional and economic support from adult children equally contributed to the declination of depression among rural middle-aged and older adults., Conclusion: Grandparenting significantly enhances mental well-being in rural middle-aged and older adults, with the support from adult children serving as a vital pathway for this positive impact. Both economic and emotional assistance from children hold equal importance in this dynamic. Non-tuberculosis mycobacterium (NTM) refers to a general term for a large group of mycobacteria, excluding the mycobacterium tuberculosis and mycobacterium leprae, which is an opportunistic pathogen. NTM pulmonary disease and pulmonary tuberculosis have very similar clinical and imaging manifestations. Ordinary sputum tests can not distinguish between mycobacterium tuberculosis and NTM accurately, and it needs to be differentiated through detection methods such as mycobacterium culture medium, high-performance liquid chromatography, and molecular biology. During the diagnosis of occupational pneumoconiosis, a sandblasting and polishing worker's lung CT showed dynamic changes in infiltrating shadows and cavities in the right lung. A sputum drug sensitivity test showed NTM infection, but the patient refused treatment. After 20 months, the CT examination of the lung showed further enlargement of infiltrating shadows and cavities, and NTM bacterial identification showed intracellular mycobacterial infection. Amikacin, moxifloxacin, azithromycin, and ethambutol combined antibacterial treatment were given. Currently, the patient is still under treatment.

The ability to gain spatiotemporal information, and in some cases achieve spatiotemporal control, in the context of drug delivery makes theranostic fluorescent probes an attractive and intensely investigated research topic. This interest is reflected in the steep rise in publications on the topic that have appeared over the past decade. Theranostic fluorescent probes, in their various incarnations, generally comprise a fluorophore linked to a masked drug, in which the drug is released as the result of certain stimuli, with both intrinsic and extrinsic stimuli being reported. This release is then signaled by the emergence of a fluorescent signal. Importantly, the use of appropriate fluorophores has enabled not only this emerging fluorescence as a spatiotemporal marker for drug delivery but also has provided modalities useful in photodynamic, photothermal, and sonodynamic therapeutic applications. In this review we highlight recent work on theranostic fluorescent probes with a particular focus on probes that are activated in tumor microenvironments. We also summarize efforts to develop probes for other applications, such as neurodegenerative diseases and antibacterials. This review celebrates the diversity of designs reported to date, from discrete small-molecule systems to nanomaterials. Our aim is to provide insights into the potential clinical impact of this still-emerging research direction.

The serrated pathway to colorectal cancers (CRCs) is a significant pathway encompassing five distinct types of lesions, namely hyperplastic polyps (HPs), sessile serrated lesions (SSLs), sessile serrated lesions with dysplasia (SSL-Ds), traditional serrated adenomas (TSAs), and serrated adenoma unclassified. In contrast to the conventional adenoma-carcinoma pathway, the serrated pathway primarily involves two mechanisms: BRAF/KRAS mutations and CpG island methylator phenotype (CIMP). HPs are the most prevalent non-malignant lesions, while SSLs play a crucial role as precursors to CRCs, On the other hand, traditional serrated adenomas (TSAs) are the least frequently encountered subtype, also serving as precursors to CRCs. It is crucial to differentiate these lesions based on their unique morphological characteristics observed in histology and colonoscopy, as the identification and management of these serrated lesions significantly impact colorectal cancer screening programs. Background: Early identification of abnormal left ventricular function in children with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is difficult using conventional echocardiographic indices and commonly used clinical markers of myocardial damage. We sought to investigate the value of automatic function imaging and myocardial work parameters in predicting early cardiac impairment in children having OSA with preserved left heart function and thereby identifying an optimal index for assessment., Patients and Methods: Fifty-two children who presented with symptoms of nocturnal sleep snoring and open-mouth breathing and 34 healthy controls were enrolled in this study. Clinical characteristics and conventional echocardiographic data were collected, and image analysis was performed using two-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography to obtain left ventricular global longitudinal strain (GLS), post-systolic index, peak strain dispersion, global work index (GWI), global constructive work (GCW), global wasted work, and global work efficiency., Results: Children with OSA had significantly lower GLS, GWI, and GCW than those without (P < 0.05). Additionally, GWI (β = -32.87, 95% CI: -53.47 to -12.27), and GCW (β = -35.09, 95% CI: -55.35 to -14.84) were found to correlate with the disease severity in the multiple linear regression mode, with worsening values observed as the severity of the disease increased. ROC curve analysis revealed that GCW was the best predictor of myocardial dysfunction, with an AUC of 0.809 (P < 0.001), and the best cutoff point for diagnosing myocardial damage in children with OSA was 1965.5 mmHg%, with a sensitivity of 92.5% and a specificity of 58.7%., Conclusions: GLS, GWI, and GCW were identified as predictors of myocardial dysfunction in children with OSA, with GCW being the best predictor., (© 2024. Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most prevalent sustained cardiac arrhythmia, and recent epidemiological studies suggested type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is an independent risk factor for the development of AF. Zinc finger and BTB (broad-complex, tram-track and bric-a-brac) domain containing 16 (Zbtb16) serve as transcriptional factors to regulate many biological processes. However, the potential effects of Zbtb16 in AF under T2DM condition remain unclear. Here, we reported that db/db mice displayed higher AF vulnerability and Zbtb16 was identified as the most significantly enriched gene by RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) analysis in atrium. In addition, thioredoxin interacting protein (Txnip) was distinguished as the key downstream gene of Zbtb16 by Cleavage Under Targets and Tagmentation (CUT&Tag) assay. Mechanistically, increased Txnip combined with thioredoxin 2 (Trx2) in mitochondrion induced excess reactive oxygen species (ROS) release, calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII) overactivation, and spontaneous Ca 2+ waves (SCWs) occurrence, which could be inhibited through atrial-specific knockdown (KD) of Zbtb16 or Txnip by adeno-associated virus 9 (AAV9) or Mito-TEMPO treatment. High glucose (HG)-treated HL-1 cells were used to mimic the setting of diabetic in vitro. Zbtb16-Txnip-Trx2 signaling-induced excess ROS release and CaMKII activation were also verified in HL-1 cells under HG condition. Furthermore, atrial-specific Zbtb16 or Txnip-KD reduced incidence and duration of AF in db/db mice. Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) expand during sepsis and contribute to the development of persistent inflammation-immunosuppression-catabolism syndrome. However, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. Exploring the mechanisms of MDSCs generation may provide therapeutic targets for improving immune status in sepsis. Here, a sepsis mouse model is established by cecal ligation and perforation. Bone marrow cells at different sepsis time points are harvested to detect the proportion of MDSCs and search for differentially expressed genes by RNA-sequence. In lethal models of sepsis, polymorphonuclear-MDSCs (PMN-MDSCs) decrease in early but increase and become activated in late sepsis, which is contrary to the expression of metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (Malat1). In vivo , Malat1 inhibitor significantly increases the mortality in mice with late sepsis. And in vitro , Malat1 down-regulation increases the proportion of PMN-MDSCs and enhanced its immunosuppressive ability. Mechanistically, Malat1 limits the differentiation of PMN-MDSCs by accelerating the degradation of phosphorylated STAT3. Furthermore, Stattic, an inhibitor of STAT3 phosphorylation, improves the survival of septic mice by inhibiting PMN-MDSCs. One undescribed homologous furanochromanone (1) featuring a 6/6/5/3 tetracyclic skeleton and four highly oxidized pyranochromanones (2-5), along with a set of four pyranochromanone stereoisomers [(±)-6a and (±)-6b], were isolated from the leaves of Calophyllum membranaceum Gardn. Et Champ. Their structures were elucidated by using spectroscopic data, Snatzke's method, quantum-chemical calculations, and X-ray crystallographic analysis. The correlation of characteristic Cotton effects and specific chemical shifts with C-3 configuration provided a convenient approach to assign the C-3 configuration of 2,3-dimethylchromanones. The stereochemical assignments of 3-OH substituted pyranochromanones by quantum-based NMR methods following single/double MTPA derivatization were consistent with the ECD/NMR prediction, which verified the feasibility and reliability of the proposed empirical rule. The underlying mechanism was further clarified by conformational and molecular orbital analyses. Moreover, biological evaluation and binding assays demonstrated that compound 3 (K D  = 0.45 μM) tightly binds to the TLR4-MD2 target, thereby inhibiting the TLR4/MyD88-dependent and -independent signal pathways. Background: The aim of this study is to analyze the effects of colostrum application on the establishment of normal flora in the intestinal tracts and oral cavities of extremely low birth weight infants (ELBWI)., Methods: A prospective cohort study design was adopted following the STROBE guidelines (Supplementary File 1). Colostrum was administered immediately after obtaining maternal breast milk using a special sterile cotton swab. There were no specific treatments for infants who did not receive colostrum. This experiment was completed on day 5 post-birth and the patients were divided into the colostrum and control groups, corresponding to whether or not colostrum was administered. Throat swabs and stool samples were collected on days 1 and 5 post-birth., Results: Using the conventional bacteria cultivation technique, the detection rate of bacteria in 98 cases of meconium at birth was 15.31%. On day 5, the detection rates of Staphylococcus in the colostrum and control groups were 36.54% and 34.78%, with no significant difference between them (P = 0.856), and that of Enterococcus was 26.92% and 13.04%, respectively, with no statistically significant difference (P = 0.089). Likewise, at birth, the detection rate of bacteria in 98 cases of throat swabs was 27.55%. To assess the value of parameters of myocardial work for dynamic monitoring of myocardial injury after neonatal asphyxia. Fifty-three neonates with asphyxia admitted within 24 h after delivery were divided into a mild asphyxia group (n = 40) and severe asphyxia group (n = 13). Echocardiography was performed within 24 h post-birth, within 72 h post-birth (48 h after first echo), and during recovery. The left ventricular ejection fraction on M-mode echocardiography and by Simpson's biplane method (LVEF and Bi-EF, respectively), stroke volume (SV), cardiac output (CO), cardiac index (CI), global longitudinal strain (GLS), global work index (GWI), global constructive work (GCW), and other parameters were measured. Echocardiographic indicators were compared between groups and over time. GWI was significantly increased at 72 h in the mild asphyxia group (P < 0.05) but showed no significant change over time in the severe asphyxia group (P > 0.05). While GCW increased significantly over time in both groups (P < 0.05), it increased earlier in the mild asphyxia group. Time and grouping factors had independent effects on GWI and GCW (P > 0.05). The characteristics of differences in GWI and GCW between the two groups were different from those for LVEF, Bi-EF, SV, CO, CI, and GLS and their change characteristics with improvement from treatment. GWI and GCW changed significantly during recovery from neonatal asphyxia, and their change characteristics differed between mild and severe asphyxia cases. Introduction: Chronic wounds are wounds that are not healed or have no healing tendency for more than 1 month due to various factors. In clinical nursing, chronic wounds are often not properly treated, and the treatment efficiency is low. Therefore, it is very important to explore effective methods to deal with chronic wounds., Objective: To explore the effect of a self-made negative pressure suction device (NPSD) in the nursing of chronic wounds in the elderly., Methods: A total of 50 elderly patients with chronic wounds who were hospitalised in our hospital from January 2020 to December 2022 were selected as participants by convenient sampling. According to the random number table method, they were divided into a control group and an observation group, with 25 people in each group. The control group was treated with chloroplast foam dressing, debridement gel and alginate dressing. The observation group was treated with a self-made NPSD on the basis of the control group. The wound healing of the two groups was observed., Results: After the intervention of the self-made NPSD, the granulation tissue coverage rate and wound volume reduction rate of the observation group were significantly increased (p < 0.05), and the positive rate of bacterial infection was significantly decreased (p < 0.05). Ionic liquids (ILs) are generally considered eco-friendly alternatives to conventional industrial solvents, but they are hard to degrade and easily accumulate in the environment. Therefore, their long-term toxicities are especially vital to estimate their potential risk. However, the chronic toxicities of ILs over generations lacked intensive investigation. In the present work, acute toxicity and chronic toxicity of 1-methyl-3-octylimidazolium chloride ([Omim]Cl) and 1-dodecylpyridinium chloride ([DPy]Cl) were studied on Moina macrocopa with the first exposed generation (F0) and two successive recovery generation (F1 to F2). The acute results showed that both [Omim]Cl and [DPy]Cl exhibited high toxicity to M. macrocopa. The chronic results indicated that the exposure of [Omim]Cl and [DPy]Cl could inhibit the survivorship, body length, and reproduction of M. macrocopa and exhibited a significant dose-related decrease. Furthermore, these two types of ILs presented intergenerational toxicity in the water flea. And the toxic effects of [Omim]Cl disappeared in the recovery tests of F2 generation, while the [DPy]Cl toxic effects continued. Objective: This study aims to investigate the value of gemstone spectral imaging (GSI) combined with an 80 mm wide-body detector in head-neck CTA., Methods: Ninety patients with head-neck CTA were prospectively selected and randomly divided into a control group and a test group, with 45 patients in each group. The control group was scanned conventionally. With a tube voltage of 100 kVp and detector width of 40 mm, a 70 ml contrast agent was injected at a flow rate of 5.0 ml/s. The test group used GSI. With a tube current fixed of 445 mAs and a detector width of 80 mm, the contrast agent was injected at a flow rate of 3.5 ml/s and 0.6 ml/kg body weight, and the 55 keV virtual monoenergetic images (VMIs) were automatically reconstructed. Finally, the target vessel CT values, background noise (BN), signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR), subjective scores, contrast agent dose, CT dose index volume (CTDIvol), and dose length product (DLP) were recorded. The DLP was converted to the effective dose (ED)., Results: The target vessel CT values, BN, SNR, CNR, and subjective scores of the two groups were not statistically significant (all P > 0.05), and the image quality of both groups was the same and met the diagnostic requirements. Photocatalytic performance of polymeric carbon nitride (CN) is primarily restricted by limited light utilization and poor charge separation efficiency. To this end, skeleton modification strategy was adopted by attaching thiophene ring and polar nickel complex (NiL) onto CN. The obtained bifunctionalized carbon nitride (TCN-NiL) displayed obviously elevated optical absorption and photoexcited charge separation efficiency. The NiL, with polar structure, plays as active sites like cocatalyst thus exhibited platinum-like H 2 evolution activity from water splitting under visible light. The optimized photocatalytic H 2 generation rate over TCN-NiL reached 136.7 μmol·h -1 without any cocatalyst, the highest rate reported so far in noble-metal-free CN-based catalysts, which is 5 times of that of CN loaded with 3 wt% Pt. Additionally, the maximum wavelength of performing H 2 production capacity over TCN-NiL extends to 550 nm from 450 nm of CN, suggesting an excellent visible light absorption ability. Measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution (MDI QKD) provides immunity against all attacks targeting measurement devices. It is essential to implement MDI QKD in the future global-scale quantum communication network. Toward this goal, we demonstrate a robust MDI QKD fully covering daytime, overcoming the high background noise that prevents BB84 protocol even when using a perfect single-photon source. Based on this, we establish a hybrid quantum communication network that integrates free-space and fiber channels through Hong-Ou-Mandle (HOM) interference. Additionally, we investigate the feasibility of implementing HOM interference with moving satellites. Our results serve as a significant cornerstone for future integrated space-ground quantum communication networks that incorporate measurement-device-independent security.

Zinc and plant-derived ligands of the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) are dietary components affecting intestinal epithelial barrier function. Here, we explore whether zinc and the AHR pathway are linked. We show that dietary supplementation with an AHR pre-ligand offers protection against inflammatory bowel disease in a mouse model while protection fails in mice lacking AHR in the intestinal epithelium. AHR agonist treatment is also ineffective in mice fed zinc depleted diet. In human ileum organoids and Caco-2 cells, AHR activation increases total cellular zinc and cytosolic free Zn 2+ concentrations through transcription of genes for zinc importers. Tight junction proteins are upregulated through zinc inhibition of nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer and calpain activity. Our data show that AHR activation by plant-derived dietary ligands improves gut barrier function at least partly via zinc-dependent cellular pathways, suggesting that combined dietary supplementation with AHR ligands and zinc might be effective in preventing inflammatory gut disorders., (© 2023. Purpose: To conduct a real-world evaluation of the efficacy and safety of combined Chinese and Western medicine in treating knee osteoarthritis (KOA). Methods: A multicenter, prospective cohort study design was employed, enrolling 450 KOA patients (Kellgren-Lawrence score of 3 or less). The patients were divided into a Western medicine treatment group (WM group) and a combined Western and traditional Chinese medicine treatment group (WM-CM group). A 6-week treatment plan was administered, and follow-up visits occurred at 2 weeks, 4 weeks, and 6 weeks after initiating treatment. The primary outcome indicator was the total Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index (WOMAC) score after 6 weeks of treatment. Secondary outcome indicators included WOMAC subscales for pain, stiffness, and joint function, visual analogue scale (VAS) score, physical component summary (PCS), mental component summary (MCS), and clinical effectiveness. The incidence of drug-related adverse events was used as a safety evaluation indicator. Results: A total of 419 patients were included in the final analysis: 98 in the WM group and 321 in the WM-CM group. The baseline characteristics of the two groups were comparable, except for the incidence of stiffness symptoms and stiffness scores. After 6 weeks of treatment, the WM-CM group exhibited superior results to the WM group in improving the total WOMAC score (24.71 ± 1.38 vs. 16.36 ± 0.62, p < 0.001). The WM-CM group also outperformed the WM group in WOMAC pain and joint function scores, VAS score, PCS score, MCS score, and clinical effectiveness ( p < 0.05), which was consistent with the findings of the main evaluation index. Subgroup analysis indicated that the combined Chinese and Western medicine treatment showed more pronounced benefits in patients under 65 years of age and in those with a Kellgren-Lawrence (K-L) classification of 0-I. Throughout the study, no adverse effects were observed in either group. Conclusion: The combination of Chinese and Western medicine demonstrated superiority over Western medicine alone in relieving knee pain symptoms, improving knee function, and enhancing the quality of life for KOA patients with a K-L score of 3 or less. Background: The liver hemodynamic changes caused by portal hypertension (PH) are closely related to various complications such as gastroesophageal varices and portosys-temic shunts, which may lead to adverse clinical outcomes in these patients, so it is of great clinical significance to find treatment strategies with favorable clinical efficacy and low risk of complications., Aim: To study the clinical efficacy of total laparoscopic splenectomy (TLS) for PH and its influence on hepatic hemodynamics and liver function., Methods: Among the 199 PH patients selected from October 2016 to October 2020, 100 patients [observation group (OG)] were treated with TLS, while the remaining 99 [reference group (RG)] were treated with open splenectomy (OS). We observed and compared the clinical efficacy, operation indexes [operative time (OT) and intraoperative bleeding volume], safety (intraperitoneal hemorrhage, ascitic fluid infection, eating disorders, liver insufficiency, and perioperative death), hepatic hemodynamics (diameter, velocity, and flow volume of the portal vein system), and liver function [serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT), serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and serum total bilirubin (TBil)] of the two groups., Results: The OT was significantly longer and intraoperative bleeding volume was significantly lesser in the OG than in the RG. Additionally, the overall response rate, postoperative complications rate, and liver function indexes (ALT, AST, and TBil) did not differ significantly between the OG and RG. The hepatic hemodynamics statistics showed that the pre- and postoperative blood vessel diameters in the two cohorts did not differ statistically. With the increasing use and production of "green solvents" ionic liquids (ILs) and their known stability in the environment, the potential adverse effects of ILs have become a focus of research. In the present study, acute, chronic, and intergenerational toxic effects of an imidazolium-based ionic liquid, 1-decyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([Demim]PF 6 ), on Moina macrocopa were investigated following the parental exposure. The results showed that [Demim]PF 6 exhibited high toxicity to M. macrocopa, and the long-term exposure significantly inhibited the survivorship, development, and reproduction of the water flea. Furthermore, it is also observed that [Demim]PF 6 induced toxic effects in the following generation of M. macrocopa, resulting in the complete cessation of reproduction in the first offspring generation, and the growth of the organisms was also significantly affected. These findings provided a novel insight into the intergenerational toxicity induced by ILs to crustaceans and suggested that these compounds pose potential risks to the aquatic ecosystem., (© 2023. Metal plasmonic nano-gratings possess a high absorption ability and exhibit potential applications in sensing, hot-electron photodetection, metasurfaces, etc. However, the fabrication techniques of high-quality nano-gratings are challenging. In this article, a binary metal micron grating for near-infrared hot-electron photodetectors (HEPDs) is designed in which the surface plasmons are excited by high-diffraction-order modes. The high-diffraction-order micron grating can be fabricated by conventional lithography and has a significantly higher tolerance in the grating parameters than a nano-grating. The range of absorption greater than 70% is ∼3 times that of a nano-grating. Moreover, an interesting relationship between the resonant wavelength and the grating duty cycle is found. When the high-diffraction-order micron grating is applied in metal-insulator-metal HEPDs, a high zero-biased responsivity of 0.533 mA/W is achieved.

Since Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a complex and multifactorial neuropathology, the discovery of multi-targeted inhibitors has gradually demonstrated greater therapeutic potential. Neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs), the main neuropathologic hallmarks of AD, are mainly associated with hyperphosphorylation of the microtubule-associated protein Tau. The overexpression of GSK3β and DYRK1A has been recognized as an important contributor to hyperphosphorylation of Tau, leading to the strategy of using dual-targets inhibitors for the treatment of this disorder. ZDWX-12 and ZDWX-25, as harmine derivatives, were found good inhibition on dual targets in our previous study. Here, we firstly evaluated the inhibition effect of Tau hyperphosphorylation using two compounds by HEK293-Tau P301L cell-based model and okadaic acid (OKA)-induced mouse model. We found that ZDWX-25 was more effective than ZDWX-12. Then, based on comprehensively investigations on ZDWX-25 in vitro and in vivo, 1) the capability of ZDWX-25 to show a reduction in phosphorylation of multiple Tau epitopes in OKA-induced neurodegeneration cell models, and 2) the effect of reduction on NFTs by 3xTg-AD mouse model under administration of ZDWX-25, an orally bioavailable, brain-penetrant dual-targets inhibitor with low toxicity. Inspired by natural enzymes that possess multiple catalytic activities, here we develop a bifunctional metal-organic frame-work (MOF) for biosensing applications. Ultrasmall gold nano-particles (AuNPs) are grown in the internal cavities of an iron (Fe) porphyrin-based MOF to produce a hybridized nanozyme, AuNPs@PCN-224(Fe), in which AuNPs and PCN-224(Fe) exhibit the catalytic activity of glucose oxidase (GOx) and horseradish peroxidase (HRP), respectively. We established that the bifunctional nanozyme was capable of a cascade reaction to generate hydrogen peroxide in the presence of d-glucose and oxygen in situ , and subsequently activate a colorimetric or chemiluminescent substrate through HRP-mimicking catalytic activity. Out-of-plane lattice plasmons (OLPs) show great potential in realizing high-quality factors due to the strong interparticle coupling. However, the strict conditions of oblique incidence bring challenges to experimental observation. This Letter proposes a new, to the best of our knowledge, mechanism to generate OLPs: through near-field coupling. Notably, with specially designed nanostructure dislocation, the strongest OLP can be achieved at normal incidence. The direction of energy flux of the OLPs is mainly determined by the wave vectors of Rayleigh anomalies. We further found that the OLP exhibits symmetry-protected bound states in the continuum characteristic, which explains the failure of previously reported symmetric structures to excite OLPs at normal incidence. Our work extends the understanding of the OLP and brings benefit to promote the flexible design of functional plasmonic devices.

Juvenile hormone analogues (JHAs) are a kind of effective insecticide. These compounds have relatively low toxicity for fish, birds, and mammals, so they are increasingly used in insect pest control. However, JHAs may cause various adverse effects in crustaceans as in insects, because they have a close evolutionary relationship and possess similar juvenile hormone systems. To date, the chronic toxicities of JHAs over generations lacked intensive investigation. The present study evaluated the acute, chronic, and transgenerational effects of a terpenoid JHA, kinoprene, using the water flea Moina macrocopa. The result of acute exposure shows that kinoprene exhibited high toxicity to M. macrocopa. The chronic results indicate that kinoprene inhibited the survivorship, development, and reproduction of the organism. Moreover, the adverse effects induced by kinoprene continued in the F2 generation with no direct exposure but recovered in the F3 generation., (© 2023. Peroxynitrite (ONOO - ) is an important oxygen/nitrogen reactive species implicated in a number of physiological and pathological processes. However, due to the complexity of the cellular micro-environment, the sensitive and accurate detection of ONOO - remains a challenging task. Here, we developed a long-wavelength fluorescent probe based on the conjugation between a TCF scaffold and phenylboronate; the resulting conjugate is capable of supramolecular host-guest assembly with human serum albumin (HSA) for the fluorogenic sensing of ONOO - . The probe exhibited an enhanced fluorescence over a low concentration range of ONOO - (0-9.6 μM), whist the fluorescence was quenched when the concentration of ONOO - exceeded 9.6 μM. In addition, when human serum albumin (HSA) was added, the initial fluorescence of the probe was significantly enhanced, which enabled the more sensitive detection of low-concentrations of ONOO - in aqueous buffer solution and in cells. The molecular structure of the supramolecular host-guest ensemble was determined using small-angle X-ray scattering.
