Commercially available digital cameras can be mounted on an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for crop growth monitoring in open-air fields as a low-cost, highly effective observation system. However, few studies have investigated their potential for nitrogen (N) status monitoring, and the performance of camera-derived vegetation indices (VIs) under different conditions remains poorly understood. In this study, five commonly used VIs derived from normal color (RGB) images and two typical VIs derived from color near-infrared (CIR) images were used to estimate leaf N concentration (LNC). To explore the potential of digital cameras for monitoring LNC at all crop growth stages, two new VIs were proposed, namely, the true color vegetation index (TCVI) from RGB images and the false color vegetation index (FCVI) from CIR images. The relationships between LNC and the different VIs varied at different stages. The commonly used VIs performed well at some stages, but the newly proposed TCVI and FCVI had the best performance at all stages. The performances of the VIs with red (or near-infrared) and green bands as the numerator were limited by saturation at intermediate to high LNCs (LNC > 3.0%), but the TCVI and FCVI had the ability to mitigate the saturation. The results of model validations further supported the superiority of the TCVI and FCVI for LNC estimation. Compared to the other VIs derived using RGB cameras, the relative root mean square errors (RRMSEs) of the TCVI were improved by 8.6% on average. For the CIR images, the best-performing VI for LNC was the FCVI (R2 = 0.756, RRMSE = 14.18%). The LNC-TCVI and LNC-FCVI were stable under different cultivars, N application rates, and planting densities. The results confirmed the applicability of UAVbased RGB and CIR cameras for crop N status monitoring under different conditions, which should assist the precision management of N fertilizers in agronomic practices.

Streptomyces species are attractive sources of secondary metabolites that serve as major sources of antibiotics and other drugs. In this study, genome mining was used to determine the biosynthetic potential of Streptomyces sp. 21So2-11 isolated from Antarctic soil. 16S rRNA gene sequencing revealed that this strain is most closely related to Streptomyces drozdowiczii NBRC 101007T, with a similarity of 98.02%. Genome comparisons based on average nucleotide identity (ANI) and digital DNA–DNA hybridization (dDDH) showed that strain 21So2-11 represents a novel species of the genus Streptomyces. In addition to a large number of genes related to environmental adaptation and ecological function, a total of 28 putative biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs) responsible for the biosynthesis of known and/or novel secondary metabolites, including terpenes, lantipeptides, polyketides, nonribosomal peptides, RiPPs and siderophores, were detected in the genome of strain 21So2-11. In addition, a total of 1456 BGCs were predicted to contribute to the biosynthesis of more than 300 secondary metabolites based on the genomes of 47 Streptomyces strains originating from polar regions. The results indicate the potential of Streptomyces sp. 21So2-11 for bioactive secondary metabolite production and are helpful for understanding bacterial adaptability and ecological function in cold terrestrial environments. The microstructures and mechanical properties of equiatomic CoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloys (HEAs) treated with various processing parameters of laser surface heat treatment are studied in this paper. The typical inverse gradient-grained structure, which is composed of a hard central layer and a soft surface layer, can be obtained by laser surface heat treatment. A much narrower gradient layer leads to the highest yield strength by sacrificing ductility when the surface temperature of the laser-irradiated region remains at ~850 °C, whereas the fully recrystallized microstructure, which exists from the top surface layer to the ~1.05 mm depth layer, increases the ductility but decreases the yield strength as the maximum heating temperature rises to ~1050 °C. Significantly, the superior strength–ductility combination can be acquired by controlling the surface temperature of a laser-irradiated surface at ~1000 °C with a scanning speed of ~4 mm/s due to the effect of hetero-deformation-induced strengthening and hardening, as well as the enhanced interaction between dislocation and nanotwins by the hierarchical nanotwins. Therefore, retaining the partial recrystallized microstructure with a relatively high microhardness in the central layer, promoting the generation of hierarchical nanotwins, and increasing the volume proportion of gradient layer can effectively facilitate the inverse gradient-grained CoCrFeMnNi HEAs to exhibit a desirable strength–ductility synergy. Metasurface absorber (MA) has been a research hotspot in the field of artificial electromagnetic structural material due to its dual advantages of high performance and compact design. Usually, the design of MA depends on the designer's professional knowledge, experience and physical inspiration. The desired optical response can be obtained by using electromagnetic simulation software to carry out hundreds or thousands of numerical calculations. Thus, it is still a challenge to quickly retrieve the optimal structure according to the desired optical response and realize the on‐demand inverse design. Besides, limited by the inner physics of the MA, it is not always possible to find the structural parameters corresponding to the desired spectrum. This paper not only takes the planar geometry and thickness of the structures into account but also realizes the probability classification of the desired spectra through the classification network. According to the classification results, the prediction network of the corresponding is selected to realize the on‐demand inverse design of MA. The proposed network model can design MA rapidly and accurately in a data‐driven way and can be flexibly applied to the design of other data‐enabled photonic devices, which is promising to become a comprehensive and effective design tool.
