Meta-learning is a general approach to equip machine learning models with the ability to handle few-shot scenarios when dealing with many tasks. Most existing meta-learning methods work based on the assumption that all tasks are of equal importance. However, real-world applications often present heterogeneous tasks characterized by varying difficulty levels, noise in training samples, or being distinctively different from most other tasks. In this paper, we introduce a novel meta-learning method designed to effectively manage such heterogeneous tasks by employing rank-based task-level learning objectives, Heterogeneous Tasks Robust Meta-learning (HeTRoM). HeTRoM is proficient in handling heterogeneous tasks, and it prevents easy tasks from overwhelming the meta-learner. The approach allows for an efficient iterative optimization algorithm based on bi-level optimization, which is then improved by integrating statistical guidance. Building on the success of deep learning models in cardiovascular structure segmentation, increasing attention has been focused on improving generalization and robustness, particularly in small, annotated datasets. Despite recent advancements, current approaches often face challenges such as overfitting and accuracy limitations, largely due to their reliance on large datasets and narrow optimization techniques. This paper introduces the UU-Mamba model, an extension of the U-Mamba architecture, designed to address these challenges in both cardiac and vascular segmentation. By incorporating Sharpness-Aware Minimization (SAM), the model enhances generalization by targeting flatter minima in the loss landscape. Additionally, we propose an uncertainty-aware loss function that combines region-based, distribution-based, and pixel-based components to improve segmentation accuracy by capturing both local and global features. While the UU-Mamba model has already demonstrated great performance, further testing is required to fully assess its generalization and robustness. We expand our evaluation by conducting new trials on the ImageCAS (coronary artery) and Aorta (aortic branches and zones) datasets, which present more complex segmentation challenges than the ACDC dataset (left and right ventricles) used in our previous work, showcasing the model's adaptability and resilience. We confirm UU-Mamba's superior performance over leading models such as TransUNet, Swin-Unet, nnUNet, and nnFormer. Moreover, we provide a more comprehensive evaluation of the model's robustness and segmentation accuracy, as demonstrated by extensive experiments.

We propose a general approach for encouraging fairness in survival analysis models based on minimizing a worst-case error across all subpopulations that occur with at least a user-specified probability. This approach can be used to convert many existing survival analysis models into ones that simultaneously encourage fairness, without requiring the user to specify which attributes or features to treat as sensitive in the training loss function. From a technical standpoint, our approach applies recent developments of distributionally robust optimization (DRO) to survival analysis. The complication is that existing DRO theory uses a training loss function that decomposes across contributions of individual data points, i.e., any term that shows up in the loss function depends only on a single training point. This decomposition does not hold for commonly used survival loss functions, including for the Cox proportional hazards model, its deep neural network variants, and many other recently developed models that use loss functions involving ranking or similarity score calculations. We address this technical hurdle using a sample splitting strategy. We demonstrate our sample splitting DRO approach by using it to create fair versions of a diverse set of existing survival analysis models including the Cox model (and its deep variant DeepSurv), the discrete-time model DeepHit, and the neural ODE model SODEN. We also establish a finite-sample theoretical guarantee to show what our sample splitting DRO loss converges to. For the Cox model, we further derive an exact DRO approach that does not use sample splitting. The CNN has achieved excellent results in the automatic classification of medical images. In this study, we propose a novel deep residual 3D attention non-local network (NL-RAN) to classify CT images included COVID-19, common pneumonia, and normal to perform rapid and explainable COVID-19 diagnosis. We built a deep residual 3D attention non-local network that could achieve end-to-end training. The network is embedded with a nonlocal module to capture global information, while a 3D attention module is embedded to focus on the details of the lesion so that it can directly analyze the 3D lung CT and output the classification results. The output of the attention module can be used as a heat map to increase the interpretability of the model. 4079 3D CT scans were included in this study. Each scan had a unique label (novel coronavirus pneumonia, common pneumonia, and normal). The CT scans cohort was randomly split into a training set of 3263 scans, a validation set of 408 scans, and a testing set of 408 scans. And compare with existing mainstream classification methods, such as CovNet, CBAM, ResNet, etc. Simultaneously compare the visualization results with visualization methods such as CAM. Model performance was evaluated using the Area Under the ROC Curve(AUC), precision, and F1-score. The NL-RAN achieved the AUC of 0.9903, the precision of 0.9473, and the F1-score of 0.9462, surpass all the classification methods compared. The heat map output by the attention module is also clearer than the heat map output by CAM. Our experimental results indicate that our proposed method performs significantly better than existing methods. In addition, the first attention module outputs a heat map containing detailed outline information to increase the interpretability of the model. Our experiments indicate that the inference of our model is fast. It can provide real-time assistance with diagnosis.

Medical Image Foundation Models have proven to be powerful tools for mask prediction across various datasets. However, accurately assessing the uncertainty of their predictions remains a significant challenge. To address this, we propose a new model, U-MedSAM, which integrates the MedSAM model with an uncertainty-aware loss function and the Sharpness-Aware Minimization (SharpMin) optimizer. The uncertainty-aware loss function automatically combines region-based, distribution-based, and pixel-based loss designs to enhance segmentation accuracy and robustness. SharpMin improves generalization by finding flat minima in the loss landscape, thereby reducing overfitting. Vehicle weaving on highways contributes to traffic congestion, raises safety issues, and underscores the need for sophisticated traffic management systems. Current tools are inadequate in offering precise and comprehensive data on lane-specific weaving patterns. This paper introduces an innovative method for collecting non-overlapping video data in weaving zones, enabling the generation of quantitative insights into lane-specific weaving behaviors. Our experimental results confirm the efficacy of this approach, delivering critical data that can assist transportation authorities in enhancing traffic control and roadway infrastructure.

Current medical image classification efforts mainly aim for higher average performance, often neglecting the balance between different classes. This can lead to significant differences in recognition accuracy between classes and obvious recognition weaknesses. Without the support of massive data, deep learning faces challenges in fine-grained classification of fatty liver. In this paper, we propose an innovative deep learning framework that combines feature decoupling and adaptive adversarial training. Firstly, we employ two iteratively compressed decouplers to supervised decouple common features and specific features related to fatty liver in abdominal ultrasound images. Subsequently, the decoupled features are concatenated with the original image after transforming the color space and are fed into the classifier. During adversarial training, we adaptively adjust the perturbation and balance the adversarial strength by the accuracy of each class. The model will eliminate recognition weaknesses by correctly classifying adversarial samples, thus improving recognition robustness. Finally, the accuracy of our method improved by 4.16%, achieving 82.95%. As demonstrated by extensive experiments, our method is a generalized learning framework that can be directly used to eliminate the recognition weaknesses of any classifier while improving its average performance. AI-generated faces have enriched human life, such as entertainment, education, and art. However, they also pose misuse risks. Therefore, detecting AI-generated faces becomes crucial, yet current detectors show biased performance across different demographic groups. Mitigating biases can be done by designing algorithmic fairness methods, which usually require demographically annotated face datasets for model training. However, no existing dataset comprehensively encompasses both demographic attributes and diverse generative methods, which hinders the development of fair detectors for AI-generated faces. In this work, we introduce the AI-Face dataset, the first million-scale demographically annotated AI-generated face image dataset, including real faces, faces from deepfake videos, and faces generated by Generative Adversarial Networks and Diffusion Models. Based on this dataset, we conduct the first comprehensive fairness benchmark to assess various AI face detectors and provide valuable insights and findings to promote the future fair design of AI face detectors. Biomedical image segmentation is critical for accurate identification and analysis of anatomical structures in medical imaging, particularly in cardiac MRI. Manual segmentation is labor-intensive, time-consuming, and prone to errors, highlighting the need for automated methods. However, current machine learning approaches face challenges like overfitting and data demands. To tackle these issues, we propose a new UU-Mamba model, integrating the U-Mamba model with the Sharpness-Aware Minimization (SAM) optimizer and an uncertainty-aware loss function. SAM enhances generalization by locating flat minima in the loss landscape, thus reducing overfitting. The uncertainty-aware loss combines region-based, distribution-based, and pixel-based loss designs to improve segmentation accuracy and robustness. Evaluation of our method is performed on the ACDC cardiac dataset, outperforming state-of-the-art models including TransUNet, Swin-Unet, nnUNet, and nnFormer. Our approach achieves Dice Similarity Coefficient (DSC) and Mean Squared Error (MSE) scores, demonstrating its effectiveness in cardiac MRI segmentation.

Diffusion models (DMs) have revolutionized image generation, producing high-quality images with applications spanning various fields. However, their ability to create hyper-realistic images poses significant challenges in distinguishing between real and synthetic content, raising concerns about digital authenticity and potential misuse in creating deepfakes. This work introduces a robust detection framework that integrates image and text features extracted by CLIP model with a Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) classifier. We propose a novel loss that can improve the detector's robustness and handle imbalanced datasets. Additionally, we flatten the loss landscape during the model training to improve the detector's generalization capabilities. The effectiveness of our method, which outperforms traditional detection techniques, is demonstrated through extensive experiments, underscoring its potential to set a new state-of-the-art approach in DM-generated image detection. In the US, thousands of Pan, Tilt, and Zoom (PTZ) traffic cameras monitor highway conditions. There is a great interest in using these highway cameras to gather valuable road traffic data to support traffic analysis and decision-making for highway safety and efficient traffic management. However, there are too many cameras for a few human traffic operators to effectively monitor, so a fully automated solution is desired. This paper introduces a novel system that learns the locations of highway lanes and traffic directions from these camera feeds automatically. It collects real-time, lane-specific traffic data continuously, even adjusting for changes in camera angle or zoom. This facilitates efficient traffic analysis, decision-making, and improved highway safety.

The robustness of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) tracking is crucial in many tasks like surveillance and robotics. Despite its importance, little attention is paid to the performance of UAV trackers under common corruptions due to lack of a dedicated platform. Addressing this, we propose UAV-C, a large-scale benchmark for assessing robustness of UAV trackers under common corruptions. Specifically, UAV-C is built upon two popular UAV datasets by introducing 18 common corruptions from 4 representative categories including adversarial, sensor, blur, and composite corruptions in different levels. Finally, UAV-C contains more than 10K sequences. To understand the robustness of existing UAV trackers against corruptions, we extensively evaluate 12 representative algorithms on UAV-C. Our study reveals several key findings: 1) Current trackers are vulnerable to corruptions, indicating more attention needed in enhancing the robustness of UAV trackers; 2) When accompanying together, composite corruptions result in more severe degradation to trackers; and 3) While each tracker has its unique performance profile, some trackers may be more sensitive to specific corruptions. By releasing UAV-C, we hope it, along with comprehensive analysis, serves as a valuable resource for advancing the robustness of UAV tracking against corruption. Human affective behavior analysis aims to delve into human expressions and behaviors to deepen our understanding of human emotions. Basic expression categories (EXPR) and Action Units (AUs) are two essential components in this analysis, which categorize emotions and break down facial movements into elemental units, respectively. Despite advancements, existing approaches in expression classification and AU detection often necessitate complex models and substantial computational resources, limiting their applicability in everyday settings. In this work, we introduce the first lightweight framework adept at efficiently tackling both expression classification and AU detection. This framework employs a frozen CLIP image encoder alongside a trainable multilayer perceptron (MLP), enhanced with Conditional Value at Risk (CVaR) for robustness and a loss landscape flattening strategy for improved generalization. Experimental results on the Aff-wild2 dataset demonstrate superior performance in comparison to the baseline while maintaining minimal computational demands, offering a practical solution for affective behavior analysis. In the realm of medical imaging, particularly for COVID-19 detection, deep learning models face substantial challenges such as the necessity for extensive computational resources, the paucity of well-annotated datasets, and a significant amount of unlabeled data. In this work, we introduce the first lightweight detector designed to overcome these obstacles, leveraging a frozen CLIP image encoder and a trainable multilayer perception (MLP). Enhanced with Conditional Value at Risk (CVaR) for robustness and a loss landscape flattening strategy for improved generalization, our model is tailored for high efficacy in COVID-19 detection. Furthermore, we integrate a teacher-student framework to capitalize on the vast amounts of unlabeled data, enabling our model to achieve superior performance despite the inherent data limitations. Experimental results on the COV19-CT-DB dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach, surpassing baseline by up to 10.6% in `macro' F1 score in supervised learning. Although effective deepfake detection models have been developed in recent years, recent studies have revealed that these models can result in unfair performance disparities among demographic groups, such as race and gender. This can lead to particular groups facing unfair targeting or exclusion from detection, potentially allowing misclassified deepfakes to manipulate public opinion and undermine trust in the model. The existing method for addressing this problem is providing a fair loss function. It shows good fairness performance for intra-domain evaluation but does not maintain fairness for cross-domain testing. This highlights the significance of fairness generalization in the fight against deepfakes. In this work, we propose the first method to address the fairness generalization problem in deepfake detection by simultaneously considering features, loss, and optimization aspects. Our method employs disentanglement learning to extract demographic and domain-agnostic forgery features, fusing them to encourage fair learning across a flattened loss landscape. Extensive experiments on prominent deepfake datasets demonstrate our method's effectiveness, surpassing state-of-the-art approaches in preserving fairness during cross-domain deepfake detection. Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF), as a pioneering technique in computer vision, offer great potential to revolutionize medical imaging by synthesizing three-dimensional representations from the projected two-dimensional image data. However, they face unique challenges when applied to medical applications. This paper presents a comprehensive examination of applications of NeRFs in medical imaging, highlighting four imminent challenges, including fundamental imaging principles, inner structure requirement, object boundary definition, and color density significance. We discuss current methods on different organs and discuss related limitations. We also review several datasets and evaluation metrics and propose several promising directions for future research.

Recent studies on deepfake detection have achieved promising results when training and testing faces are from the same dataset. However, their results severely degrade when confronted with forged samples that the model has not yet seen during training. In this paper, deepfake data to help detect deepfakes. this paper present we put a new insight into diffusion model-based data augmentation, and propose a Masked Conditional Diffusion Model (MCDM) for enhancing deepfake detection. It generates a variety of forged faces from a masked pristine one, encouraging the deepfake detection model to learn generic and robust representations without overfitting to special artifacts. Extensive experiments demonstrate that forgery images generated with our method are of high quality and helpful to improve the performance of deepfake detection models.

Providing explanations within the recommendation system would boost user satisfaction and foster trust, especially by elaborating on the reasons for selecting recommended items tailored to the user. The predominant approach in this domain revolves around generating text-based explanations, with a notable emphasis on applying large language models (LLMs). However, refining LLMs for explainable recommendations proves impractical due to time constraints and computing resource limitations. As an alternative, the current approach involves training the prompt rather than the LLM. In this study, we developed a model that utilizes the ID vectors of user and item inputs as prompts for GPT-2. We employed a joint training mechanism within a multi-task learning framework to optimize both the recommendation task and explanation task. This strategy enables a more effective exploration of users' interests, improving recommendation effectiveness and user satisfaction. Through the experiments, our method achieving 1.59 DIV, 0.57 USR and 0.41 FCR on the Yelp, TripAdvisor and Amazon dataset respectively, demonstrates superior performance over four SOTA methods in terms of explainability evaluation metric. In addition, we identified that the proposed model is able to ensure stable textual quality on the three public datasets.

The rapid advancement of Large AI Models (LAIMs), particularly diffusion models and large language models, has marked a new era where AI-generated multimedia is increasingly integrated into various aspects of daily life. Although beneficial in numerous fields, this content presents significant risks, including potential misuse, societal disruptions, and ethical concerns. Consequently, detecting multimedia generated by LAIMs has become crucial, with a marked rise in related research. Despite this, there remains a notable gap in systematic surveys that focus specifically on detecting LAIM-generated multimedia. Addressing this, we provide the first survey to comprehensively cover existing research on detecting multimedia (such as text, images, videos, audio, and multimodal content) created by LAIMs. Specifically, we introduce a novel taxonomy for detection methods, categorized by media modality, and aligned with two perspectives: pure detection (aiming to enhance detection performance) and beyond detection (adding attributes like generalizability, robustness, and interpretability to detectors). Additionally, we have presented a brief overview of generation mechanisms, public datasets, and online detection tools to provide a valuable resource for researchers and practitioners in this field. Furthermore, we identify current challenges in detection and propose directions for future research that address unexplored, ongoing, and emerging issues in detecting multimedia generated by LAIMs. Our aim for this survey is to fill an academic gap and contribute to global AI security efforts, helping to ensure the integrity of information in the digital realm. It was demonstrated that the lattice simulation of $B$-meson light-cone distribution amplitude (LCDA) is feasible via the quasi-distribution amplitude (quasi-DA) in large momentum effective theory (LaMET). The structures of logarithmic moments (LMs) of $B$-meson quasi-DA is explored in this work. The one-loop results indicate mixing in the matching: the $n$-th LM would be not only factorized into the $n$-th LM of LCDA, but also other moments with different power, accompanied by short distance coefficients. DeepFake, an AI technology for creating facial forgeries, has garnered global attention. Amid such circumstances, forensics researchers focus on developing defensive algorithms to counter these threats. In contrast, there are techniques developed for enhancing the aggressiveness of DeepFake, e.g., through anti-forensics attacks, to disrupt forensic detectors. However, such attacks often sacrifice image visual quality for improved undetectability. To address this issue, we propose a method to generate novel adversarial sharpening masks for launching black-box anti-forensics attacks. Unlike many existing arts, with such perturbations injected, DeepFakes could achieve high anti-forensics performance while exhibiting pleasant sharpening visual effects. After experimental evaluations, we prove that the proposed method could successfully disrupt the state-of-the-art DeepFake detectors. In the field of clinical medicine, computed tomography (CT) is an effective medical imaging modality for the diagnosis of various pathologies. Compared with X-ray images, CT images can provide more information, including multi-planar slices and three-dimensional structures for clinical diagnosis. However, CT imaging requires patients to be exposed to large doses of ionizing radiation for a long time, which may cause irreversible physical harm. In this paper, we propose an Uncertainty-aware MedNeRF (UMedNeRF) network based on generated radiation fields. The network can learn a continuous representation of CT projections from 2D X-ray images by obtaining the internal structure and depth information and using adaptive loss weights to ensure the quality of the generated images. Our model is trained on publicly available knee and chest datasets, and we show the results of CT projection rendering with a single X-ray and compare our method with other methods based on generated radiation fields.

Generative adversarial networks (GANs) have remarkably advanced in diverse domains, especially image generation and editing. However, the misuse of GANs for generating deceptive images, such as face replacement, raises significant security concerns, which have gained widespread attention. Therefore, it is urgent to develop effective detection methods to distinguish between real and fake images. Current research centers around the application of transfer learning. Nevertheless, it encounters challenges such as knowledge forgetting from the original dataset and inadequate performance when dealing with imbalanced data during training. To alleviate this issue, this paper introduces a novel GAN-generated image detection algorithm called X-Transfer, which enhances transfer learning by utilizing two neural networks that employ interleaved parallel gradient transmission. In addition, we combine AUC loss and cross-entropy loss to improve the model's performance. We carry out comprehensive experiments on multiple facial image datasets. The results show that our model outperforms the general transferring approach, and the best metric achieves 99.04%, which is increased by approximately 10%. Controlling the degree of stylization in the Neural Style Transfer (NST) is a little tricky since it usually needs hand-engineering on hyper-parameters. In this paper, we propose the first deep Reinforcement Learning (RL) based architecture that splits one-step style transfer into a step-wise process for the NST task. Our RL-based method tends to preserve more details and structures of the content image in early steps, and synthesize more style patterns in later steps. It is a user-easily-controlled style-transfer method. Additionally, as our RL-based model performs the stylization progressively, it is lightweight and has lower computational complexity than existing one-step Deep Learning (DL) based models. Deepfake technology poses a significant threat to security and social trust. Although existing detection methods have shown high performance in identifying forgeries within datasets that use the same deepfake techniques for both training and testing, they suffer from sharp performance degradation when faced with cross-dataset scenarios where unseen deepfake techniques are tested. To address this challenge, we propose a Deep Information Decomposition (DID) framework to enhance the performance of Cross-dataset Deepfake Detection (CrossDF). Unlike most existing deepfake detection methods, our framework prioritizes high-level semantic features over specific visual artifacts. Specifically, it adaptively decomposes facial features into deepfake-related and irrelevant information, only using the intrinsic deepfake-related information for real/fake discrimination. Moreover, it optimizes these two kinds of information to be independent with a de-correlation learning module, thereby enhancing the model's robustness against various irrelevant information changes and generalization ability to unseen forgery methods. Our extensive experimental evaluation and comparison with existing state-of-the-art detection methods validate the effectiveness and superiority of the DID framework on cross-dataset deepfake detection.

Most existing Image-to-Image Translation (I2IT) methods generate images in a single run of a deep learning (DL) model. However, designing such a single-step model is always challenging, requiring a huge number of parameters and easily falling into bad global minimums and overfitting. In this work, we reformulate I2IT as a step-wise decision-making problem via deep reinforcement learning (DRL) and propose a novel framework that performs RL-based I2IT (RL-I2IT). The key feature in the RL-I2IT framework is to decompose a monolithic learning process into small steps with a lightweight model to progressively transform a source image successively to a target image. Considering that it is challenging to handle high dimensional continuous state and action spaces in the conventional RL framework, we introduce meta policy with a new concept Plan to the standard Actor-Critic model, which is of a lower dimension than the original image and can facilitate the actor to generate a tractable high dimensional action. In the RL-I2IT framework, we also employ a task-specific auxiliary learning strategy to stabilize the training process and improve the performance of the corresponding task. Experiments on several I2IT tasks demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method when facing high-dimensional continuous action space problems. Supervised learning models are challenged by the intrinsic complexities of training data such as outliers and minority subpopulations and intentional attacks at inference time with adversarial samples. While traditional robust learning methods and the recent adversarial training approaches are designed to handle each of the two challenges, to date, no work has been done to develop models that are robust with regard to the low-quality training data and the potential adversarial attack at inference time simultaneously. It is for this reason that we introduce Outlier Robust Adversarial Training (ORAT) in this work. ORAT is based on a bi-level optimization formulation of adversarial training with a robust rank-based loss function. Theoretically, we show that the learning objective of ORAT satisfies the $\mathcal{H}$-consistency in binary classification, which establishes it as a proper surrogate to adversarial 0/1 loss. Furthermore, we analyze its generalization ability and provide uniform convergence rates in high probability. ORAT can be optimized with a simple algorithm. Experimental evaluations on three benchmark datasets demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of ORAT in handling outliers and adversarial attacks. Within the framework of large momentum effective theory (LaMET), we propose a hard-collinear factorization formula to extract the subleading-twist $B$-meson light-cone distribution amplitude (LCDA) from the quasidistribution amplitude calculated on the lattice. The one-loop matching coefficient and an integro-differential equation governing the evolution of the quasidistribution amplitude are derived. Our results could be useful either in evaluating the subleading-twist $B$-meson LCDA on the lattice or in the understanding the feasibility of LaMET on higher-twist distributions., Comment: 10 pages, 2 figures

UV and visible photonics enable applications ranging from spectroscopic sensing to communication and quantum information processing. Photonics structures in these wavelength regimes, however, tend to experience higher loss than their IR counterpart. Particularly in the near-UV band, on-chip optical microresonators have not yet achieved a quality factor beyond 1 million. Here we report ultra-low-loss photonic waveguides and resonators patterned from alumina thin films prepared by a highly scalable atomic layer deposition process. We demonstrate ultra high Q factor of 1.5$\,\times\,$10$^6$ at 390nm, a record value at UV bands, and 1.9$\,\times\,$10$^6$ at 488.5nm.

Despite the development of effective deepfake detectors in recent years, recent studies have demonstrated that biases in the data used to train these detectors can lead to disparities in detection accuracy across different races and genders. This can result in different groups being unfairly targeted or excluded from detection, allowing undetected deepfakes to manipulate public opinion and erode trust in a deepfake detection model. While existing studies have focused on evaluating fairness of deepfake detectors, to the best of our knowledge, no method has been developed to encourage fairness in deepfake detection at the algorithm level. In this work, we make the first attempt to improve deepfake detection fairness by proposing novel loss functions that handle both the setting where demographic information (eg, annotations of race and gender) is available as well as the case where this information is absent. Fundamentally, both approaches can be used to convert many existing deepfake detectors into ones that encourages fairness. Extensive experiments on four deepfake datasets and five deepfake detectors demonstrate the effectiveness and flexibility of our approach in improving deepfake detection fairness. As growing usage of social media websites in the recent decades, the amount of news articles spreading online rapidly, resulting in an unprecedented scale of potentially fraudulent information. Although a plenty of studies have applied the supervised machine learning approaches to detect such content, the lack of gold standard training data has hindered the development. Analysing the single data format, either fake text description or fake image, is the mainstream direction for the current research. However, the misinformation in real-world scenario is commonly formed as a text-image pair where the news article/news title is described as text content, and usually followed by the related image. Given the strong ability of learning features without labelled data, contrastive learning, as a self-learning approach, has emerged and achieved success on the computer vision. In this paper, our goal is to explore the constrastive learning in the domain of misinformation identification. We developed a self-learning model and carried out the comprehensive experiments on a public data set named COSMOS. Comparing to the baseline classifier, our model shows the superior performance of non-matched image-text pair detection (approximately 10%) when the training data is insufficient. In addition, we observed the stability for contrsative learning and suggested the use of it offers large reductions in the number of training data, whilst maintaining comparable classification results.

Anti-Stokes photoluminescence (PL) is light emission at a higher photon energy than the excitation, with applications in optical cooling, bioimaging, lasing, and quantum optics. Here, we show how plasmonic nano-cavities activate anti-Stokes PL in WSe$_2$ monolayers through resonant excitation of a dark exciton. The tightly confined plasmonic fields excite the out-of-plane transition dipole of the dark exciton, leading to light emission from the bright exciton at higher energy. Through statistical measurements on hundreds of plasmonic cavities, we show that coupling to the dark exciton is key to achieving a near hundred-fold enhancement of the upconverted PL intensity. This is further corroborated by experiments in which the laser excitation wavelength is tuned across the dark exciton. Finally, we show that an asymmetric nanoparticle shape and precise geometry are key for consistent activation of the dark exciton and efficient PL upconversion. Our work introduces a new excitation channel for anti-Stokes PL in WSe$_2$ and paves the way for large-area substrates providing optical cooling, anti-Stokes lasing, and radiative engineering of excitons.

Deep neural networks have been demonstrated to be vulnerable to adversarial attacks: subtle perturbation can completely change the prediction result. Existing adversarial attacks on object detection focus on attacking anchor-based detectors, which may not work well for anchor-free detectors. In this paper, we propose the first adversarial attack dedicated to anchor-free detectors. It is a category-wise attack that attacks important pixels of all instances of a category simultaneously. Our attack manifests in two forms, sparse category-wise attack (SCA) and dense category-wise attack (DCA), that minimize the $L_0$ and $L_\infty$ norm-based perturbations, respectively. For DCA, we present three variants, DCA-G, DCA-L, and DCA-S, that select a global region, a local region, and a semantic region, respectively, to attack. Our experiments on large-scale benchmark datasets including PascalVOC, MS-COCO, and MS-COCO Keypoints indicate that our proposed methods achieve state-of-the-art attack performance and transferability on both object detection and human pose estimation tasks., Comment: Yunxu Xie and Shu Hu contributed equally

We propose a general approach for training survival analysis models that minimizes a worst-case error across all subpopulations that are large enough (occurring with at least a user-specified minimum probability). This approach uses a training loss function that does not know any demographic information to treat as sensitive. Despite this, we demonstrate that our proposed approach often scores better on recently established fairness metrics (without a significant drop in prediction accuracy) compared to various baselines, including ones which directly use sensitive demographic information in their training loss. Design of detection strategies for multipartite entanglement stands as a central importance on our understanding of fundamental quantum mechanics and has had substantial impact on quantum information applications. However, accurate and robust detection approaches are severely hindered, particularly when the number of nodes grows rapidly like in a quantum network. Here we present an exquisite procedure that generates novel entanglement witness for arbitrary targeted state via a generic and operational framework. The framework enjoys a systematic and high-efficient character and allows to substantiate genuine multipartite entanglement for a variety of states that arise naturally in practical situations, and to dramatically outperform currently standard methods. With excellent noise tolerance, our framework should be broadly applicable to witness genuine multipartite entanglement in various practically scenarios, and to facilitate making the best use of entangled resources in the emerging area of quantum network., Comment: 27 pages, 5 figures

Reinforcement learning is applied to solve actual complex tasks from high-dimensional, sensory inputs. The last decade has developed a long list of reinforcement learning algorithms. Recent progress benefits from deep learning for raw sensory signal representation. One question naturally arises: how well do they perform concerning different robotic manipulation tasks? Benchmarks use objective performance metrics to offer a scientific way to compare algorithms. In this paper, we present RMBench, the first benchmark for robotic manipulations, which have high-dimensional continuous action and state spaces. We implement and evaluate reinforcement learning algorithms that directly use observed pixels as inputs. We report their average performance and learning curves to show their performance and stability of training. Our study concludes that none of the studied algorithms can handle all tasks well, soft Actor-Critic outperforms most algorithms in average reward and stability, and an algorithm combined with data augmentation may facilitate learning policies.
