29. Prediction of interaction between enzymes and small molecules in metabolic pathways through integrating multiple classifiers

Abstract

Information about interactions between enzymes and small molecules is important for understanding various metabolic bioprocesses. In this article we applied a majority voting system to predict the interactions between enzymes and small molecules in the metabolic pathways, by combining several classifiers including AdaBoost, Bagging and KNN together. The advantage of such a strategy is based on the principle that a predictor based majority voting systems usually provide more reliable results than any single classifier. The prediction accuracies thus obtained on a training dataset and an independent testing dataset were 82.8% and 84.8%, respectively. The prediction accuracy for the networking couples in the independent testing dataset was 75.5%, which is about 4% higher than that reported in a previous study [1]. 34. Effects of Cell-wall Angle on the Mechanical Properties of Hexagonal Honeycombs

Abstract

The y-directional mechanical properties of hexagonal honeycombs with various cell-wall angles are explored. The results of both the quasi-static experiments and the dynamic simulations show that the cell-wall angle has a significant influence on the honeycombs' mechanical properties, although the latter is dominated by the honeycombs' relative density. This influence is weakened by the increase of the impact velocity. With retaining the honeycombs' relative density as constant, the honeycomb with the cell-wall angle of about 45° exhibits the optimal crushing strength and energy absorption capacity. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Abstract

Abstract: Emission properties of Ho3+ at 2.0μm and the energy transfer mechanism between Yb3+, Er3+ and Ho3+ ions in fluorophosphate glasses are investigated. The measured emission spectra show that the 5 I 7 → 5 I 8 transition of Ho3+ upon 980nm laser diode excitation is strong. Judd–Ofelt intensity parameters (Ωλ , λ =2, 4, 6), spontaneous transition probability (A rad), radiative lifetime (τ r), absorption cross section (σ a), stimulated emission cross section (σ e) and FWHM× for the transition of Ho3+: 5 I 7 → 5 I 8 are calculated and discussed. The obtained results show that the present Yb3+/Er3+/Ho3+ triply-doped fluorophosphate glass can be identified to be a promising material at 2.0μm emission. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract

Abstract: Fluorophosphate glasses with various content of Al(PO3)3 were prepared. With the increment of Al(PO3)3 content, density decreases while refractive index increases, and transition temperature, crystallization peak temperature and melt temperature increase which were suggested by differential scanning calorimetry. These glasses exhibit the best stability against crystallization with 7–9mol% Al(PO3)3 content. Normalized Raman spectra were used to analyze structure and phonon state. The increment of Al(PO3)3 content does not affect phonon energy but results in the augment of phonon density. Absorption spectra were measured. 3H6 → 3F4 transition exhibits absorption at L band of the third communication window. Compared with the energy of Tm3+ excited states in other glass system, 3F4 energy of Tm3+ in these glasses is considerable higher and 3H4 energy is considerable lower, and it can be predicted that emission band of 3H4 → 3F4 transition is close to the amplified band of gain-shift Tm3+ doped fiber amplifier. Analyses of Judd–Ofelt theory suggest when Al(PO3)3 content is no more than 7mol%, Judd–Ofelt parameters Ω t and the lifetime of 3H4 energy level of Tm3+ vary little with the increment of Al(PO3)3 content, and when Al(PO3)3 content is more than 7mol%, Ω 2 and Ω 6 increase and radiative lifetime of 3H4 energy level of Tm3+ drops sharply with the increment of Al(PO3)3 content.
