6. Recent advances in functionalized separator for dendrites‐free and stable lithium metal batteries

Abstract

Lithium (Li) metal anode is considered the “Holy grail” for the most promising next‐generation rechargeable lithium metal batteries (LMBs) because of ultra‐high theoretical specific capacity, ultra‐low reduction potential and small density. However, uncontrolled lithium dendrite growth and inevitable side reaction seriously hindered the application of practical LMBs because of the deteriorating electrochemical performances and exacerbating the safety issues of LMBs. Thus, improving the electrochemical performances of LMBs by constructed of functionalized separator is promising for overcoming the above‐mentioned challenges due to its' significantly advantages, such as enhancing mechanical and thermal stability, regulating the diffusion and migration of Li ions, homogenizing Li ion flux, forming protective layer on Li anode surfaces, etc. The relational investigations have significantly increased since 2020, while the comprehensive reviews on this research direction are relatively rare, especially in the detailed mechanism aspects. In this review, an overview in functionalized separator for stable LMBs is discussed in detail. Firstly, the current issues of LMBs are in‐depth discussion and the general strategies are summarized. Subsequently, the requirements and limitations of separator, as well as the advantages of functionalized separator are summarized and reviewed. Most importantly, the protection mechanisms and research advances of advanced functionalized separator are comprehensively discussed and summarized. Furthermore, the applications of functionalized separator in rechargeable lithium metal‐based full cells are reviewed. Finally, the challenges and potential opportunities for the future development and rational design of functionalized separator are highlighted in rechargeable LMBs to obtain future research directions related to the significant strategy of constructing dendrite‐free and stable LMBs. The recent advances and protection mechanisms of functionalized separators for lithium metal batteries (LMBs) as well as the applications in rechargeable lithium metal‐based full cells were comprehensively discussed and summarized in this Review. Meanwhile, current issues and challenges of LMBs, general strategies, and potential opportunities are in‐depth discussion and summary.

GSEA analysis demonstrated an enrichment of these genes in immune and inflammatory responses, and amino acid metabolism. The CIBERSORT algorithm showed a negative correlation between T cells and these signature genes in the cartilage, and a positive correlation in the synovium. Moreover, RP5-894D12.5 and FAM95B1 regulated the expression of JUN, ATF3, and CDKN1A by competitively binding to miR-1972, miR-665, and miR-181a-2-3p. In vivo, GPX4 was downregulated in both OA cartilage and synovium; however, GPX4 and GSH were downregulated, while ferrous ions were upregulated in patient OA cartilage and synovium samples, indicating that ferroptosis was involved in the pathogenesis of OA. Furthermore, JUN, ATF3, and CDKN1A expression was downregulated in both mouse and human OA synovial and cartilage tissues. qRT-PCR demonstrated that miR-1972, RP5-894D12.5, and FAM95B1 were differentially expressed in OA tissues. Targeted interactions between miR-1972 and JUN, and a ceRNA regulatory mechanism between RP5-894D12.5, miR-1972, and JUN were confirmed by dual-luciferase assays. Conclusion: This study identified JUN, ATF3, and CDKN1A as possible diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets for joint synovitis and OA. Furthermore, our finding indicated that RP5-894D12.5/miR-1972/JUN was a potential ceRNA regulatory axis in OA, providing an insight into the connection between ferroptosis and OA. Abstract

Coal measure energy production and reservoir space utilization are both important for energy security and can assist in achieving carbon neutrality. Coal measure energy production and reservoir utilization are therefore of scientific significance. This study focuses on the security of coal supply by discussing the possible technical approaches of combining low-carbon mining of coal measure resources and coal reservoir space utilization. Our study found that 1) the integration of underground coal gasification and carbon capture and sequestration (UCG-CCS) is an effective technology to improve energy efficiency and achieve the carbon neutral target in China; 2) CO2-enhanced coalbed methane (CO2-ECBM) recovery is an important way to reduce CO2 emissions during coalbed methane recovery; and 3) the integrated technology of solid waste filling (WF), coal bioconversion (CB), gas production (GP), and CO2 capture and sequestration (CCS) in coal goafs and abandoned coal mines can improve the energy production efficiency and reservoir space utilization and reduce geological disasters due to surface subsidence. These integrated technologies will become increasingly important for coal measure energy production and efficient reservoir space utilization as they will provide scientific theory and technical support to achieve carbon neutrality.

21. Changes in Physicochemical Properties of Coal and Their Mechanism Due to Supercritical CO 2 –H 2 O Treatment.

Abstract

The dissolution of supercritical carbon dioxide (ScCO2) in water forms a ScCO2–H2O system, which exerts a transformative influence on the physicochemical characteristics of coal and significantly impacts the CO2-driven enhanced coalbed methane (CO2-ECBM) recovery process. Herein, the effect of ScCO2–H2O treatment on the physicochemical properties of coal was simulated in a high-pressure reactor. The migration of major elements, change in the pore structure, and change in the CH4 adsorption capacity of coal after the ScCO2–H2O treatment were detected using plasma emission spectroscopy, the low-temperature liquid nitrogen adsorption method, and the CH4 adsorption method, respectively. The results show that (1) the ScCO2–H2O treatment led to mineral reactions causing a significant migration of constant elements in the coal. The migration of Ca ions was the most significant, with an increase in their concentration in treated water from 0 to 16–970 mg·L−1, followed by Na, Mg, and K. Al migrated the least, from 0 to 0.004–2.555 mg·L−1. (2) The ScCO2–H2O treatment increased the pore volume and pore-specific surface area (SSA) of the coal via the dissolution and precipitation of minerals in the coal pores. The total pore volume increased from 0.000795–0.011543 to 0.001274–0.014644 cm3·g−1, and the total pore SSA increased from 0.084–3.332 to 0.400–6.061 m2·g−1. (3) Changes in the CH4 adsorption capacity were affected by the combined effects of a mineral reaction and pore structure change. The dissolved precipitates of the minerals in the coal pores after the ScCO2–H2O treatment caused elemental migration, which not only decreased the mineral content in the coal pores but also increased the total pore volume and total pore SSA, thus improving the CH4 adsorption capacity of the coal. 22. High-fat diet promotes liver tumorigenesis via palmitoylation and activation of AKT

Abstract

ObjectiveWhether and how the PI3K-AKT pathway, a central node of metabolic homeostasis, is responsible for high-fat-induced non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remain a mystery. Characterisation of AKT regulation in this setting will provide new strategies to combat HCC.DesignMetabolite library screening disclosed that palmitic acid (PA) could activate AKT. In vivo and in vitro palmitoylation assay were employed to detect AKT palmitoylation. Diverse cell and mouse models, including generation of AKT1C77Sand AKT1C224Sknock-in cells, Zdhhc17and Zdhhc24knockout mice and Akt1C224Sknock-in mice were employed. Human liver tissues from patients with NASH and HCC, hydrodynamic transfection mouse model, high-fat/high-cholesterol diet (HFHCD)-induced NASH/HCC mouse model and high-fat and methionine/choline-deficient diet (HFMCD)-induced NASH mouse model were also further explored for our mechanism studies.ResultsBy screening a metabolite library, PA has been defined to activate AKT by promoting its palmitoyl modification, an essential step for growth factor-induced AKT activation. Biologically, a high-fat diet could promote AKT kinase activity, thereby promoting NASH and liver cancer. Mechanistically, palmitoyl binding anchors AKT to the cell membrane in a PIP3-independent manner, in part by preventing AKT from assembling into an inactive polymer. The palmitoyltransferases ZDHHC17/24 were characterised to palmitoylate AKT to exert oncogenic effects. Interestingly, the anti-obesity drug orlistat or specific penetrating peptides can effectively attenuate AKT palmitoylation and activation by restricting PA synthesis or repressing AKT modification, respectively, thereby antagonising liver tumorigenesis.ConclusionsOur findings elucidate a novel fine-tuned regulation of AKT by PA-ZDHHC17/24-mediated palmitoylation, and highlight tumour therapeutic strategies by taking PA-restricted diets, limiting PA synthesis, or directly targeting AKT palmitoylation.

23. Room-Temperature Organic Passivation for GaN-on-Si HEMTs With Improved Device Stability

Abstract

In this work, we report an effective room-temperature passivation strategy for GaN-on-Si high-electron-mobility transistors (HEMTs) to improve device stability by introducing a spin-coated CYTOP organic passivation layer. This CYTOP coating can suppress the interface states of the devices to a low level of $\sim 10^{{12}}$ cm $^{-{2}}\cdot $ eV $^{-{1}}$ at a shallow energy trap of $\sim $ 0.30 eV. As a result, improved device stability is realized, featuring reduced leakage current, smaller voltage hysteresis, reduced current collapse, and mitigated device degradation after long-term electrical stress. Besides, it is found that the CYTOP-passivated HEMT can operate with stable rectification behavior under an elevated temperature of 250 °C, confirming the high-temperature robustness of this organic passivation. These results highlight the potential of such room-temperature passivation strategy for further applications in electronic systems under complex conditions and harsh environments.

Abstract

In this work, the effect of in situ SiNx grown with different carrier gas on the structural and electrical properties of the SiNx/AlGaN/GaN MIS-HEMTs is studied. It was found that the growth rate of SiNx grown with N2 as carrier gas (N2-SiNx) is more sensitive to different growth conditions, while the growth rate of SiNx grown with H2 as carrier gas (H2-SiNx) is very stable due to the inhibiting effects of H2 carrier gas on the SiH4–NH3 forward reactions. More importantly, a continuous and smooth SiNx growth at the initial stage can be realized with H2 carrier gas due to its faster surface migration, leading to a decent surface morphology and sharp interface of H2-SiNx. As a result, the SiNx passivated device with H2 as carrier gas shows improved performance compared to that with N2 as carrier gas, featuring ultra-low interface-state density of 2.8 × 1010 cm−2 eV−1, improved on- and off-state current, reduced threshold voltage shift, and mitigated current collapse, especially after long-term electrical stress. These results not only elaborate on the growth mechanisms of in situ SiNx with different carrier gases but also highlight the advances of H2 as carrier gas for in situ SiNx growth, providing an effective strategy to tailor the passivation schemes for GaN-based devices. 44. Prognostic and Clinicopathological Value of PINX1 in Various Human Tumors: A Meta-Analysis

Abstract

PINX1 (Pin2/TRF1 interacting protein X1, an intrinsic telomerase inhibitor and putative tumor suppressor gene) may represent a novel prognostic tumor biomarker. However, the results of previous studies are inconsistent and the prognostic value of PINX1 remains controversial. Therefore, we conducted a meta-analysis to determine whether PINX1 expression is associated with overall survival (OS), disease-specific survival (DSS), disease-free survival (DFS), recurrence-free survival (RFS), and clinicopathological characteristics in patients with malignant tumors. A systematic search was performed in the PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase databases in April 2018. Quality assessment was performed according to the modified Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. Pooled odds ratios (ORs) and hazard ratios (HRs) with 95.0% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated to determine the relationship between PINX1 expression and OS, DSS, DFS/RFS, and clinicopathological characteristics. Due to the heterogeneity across the included studies, subgroup and sensitivity analyses were performed. Fixed-effects models were used when the heterogeneity was not significant and random-effects models were used when the heterogeneity was significant. Fourteen studies of 16 cohorts including 2,624 patients were enrolled. Low PINX1 expression was associated with poor OS (HR: 1.51, 95.0% CI: 1.03–2.20; P = 0.035) and DFS/RFS (HR: 1.78, 95.0% CI: 1.28–2.47; P = 0.001) but not DSS (HR: 0.80, 95.0% CI: 0.38–1.67; P = 0.548). Low PINX1 expression was also associated with lymphatic invasion (OR: 2.23, 95.0% CI: 1.35–3.70; P = 0.002) and advanced tumor-node-metastasis stage (OR: 2.43, 95.0% CI: 1.29–4.57; P = 0.006). No significant associations were observed between low PINX1 expression and sex, depth of invasion, grade of differentiation, and distant metastasis. Low PINX1 expression was associated with poor OS and DFS/RFS and lymphatic invasion and advanced tumor-node-metastasis stage, suggesting that PINX1 expression may be a useful predictor of prognosis in patients with malignant tumors.

Abstract

Boron nitride can be used as a good catalyst carrier because of its high thermal conductivity and chemical stability. However, a high specific surface area of boron nitride is still desirable. In this work, a carbon fiber composite coated with boron nitride villous nano-film was prepared, and was also characterized by means of scanning electron microscopy, high resolution transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller analysis. The results indicated that the carbon fibers were covered by uniform villous boron nitride films whose thickness was about 150 – 200 nm. The specific surface area of the boron nitride/carbon fiber composite material was 96 m2 g−1, which was markedly improved compared with conventional boron nitride materials
