11. The roles of the spatial regularization in seismic deconvolution

Abstract

In this paper we investigate the roles of the spatial regularization in seismic deconvolution. The spatial regularization is described as a L2 norm of the lateral reflectivity difference imposed on multi-trace data misfit term. In essence, the spatial regularization acts as a band-pass filter along the spatial direction. Therefore, it can suppress the high-wavenumber components of the estimated reflectivity, for example, noisy trails like noodles which usually caused by temporal regularized deconvolution. As well, the spatial regularization can help recovering the reflectivity of discarding traces by repeatedly and linearly weighting its neighboring reflectivity, thereby exploring the spatial continuities among traces. Moreover, the spatial regularization can help stabilizing inversion, just like the temporal regularization. Both synthetic and field data examples are used to demonstrate the three roles of the spatial regularization by comparing spatial regularized deconvolution with conventional temporal deconvolution implemented by minimizing a data misfit and a L2 norm or a L1 norm of reflectivity. Furthermore, the synthetic examples also clearly illustrate that the spatial regularization can help yielding a high resolution and meanwhile high signal-to-noise ratio deconvolution result, which matches best with the reference reflectivity.

Abstract

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is the leading cause of visual impairment and blindness among working-age people. Inflammation is recognized as a critical driver of the DR process. However, the main retina-specific cell type producing pro-inflammatory cytokines and its mechanism underlying DR are still unclear. Here, we used single-cell sequencing to identify microglia with metabolic pathway alterations that were the main source of IL-1β in STZ-induced DR mice. To profile the full extent of local metabolic shifts in activated microglia and to reveal the metabolic microenvironment contributing to immune mechanisms, we performed integrated metabolomics, lipidomics, and RNA profiling analyses in microglia cell line samples representative of the DR microenvironment. The results showed that activated microglia with IL-1β increase exhibited a metabolic bias favoring glycolysis, purine metabolism, and triacylglycerol synthesis, but less Tricarboxylic acid (TCA). In addition, some of these especially glycolysis was necessary to facilitate their pro-inflammation. These findings suggest that activated microglia with intracellular metabolic reprogramming in retina may contribute to pro-inflammation in the early DR.

Abstract

Purpose: To investigate the percentages and risk factors for visual impairment (VI) across age groups in a highly myopic cohort with a wide range of age (18–93 years). Methods: A total of 2099 eyes (1220 participants) were enrolled. All participants underwent detailed ocular examinations. Myopic maculopathy (MM) was assessed as myopic atrophy maculopathy (MAM), myopic traction maculopathy (MTM) or myopic neovascular maculopathy (MNM) based on the ATN system. Results: Most participants younger than 50 years had normal vision, while the cumulative risk of VI and blindness gradually increased after 50–59 years. The percentage of each type of MM increased nonlinearly with ageing (all p < 0.001), with an accelerated period of increase after 45 years for MAM, and after 50 years for MTM and MNM. Axial length (AL) ≥30 mm was the only associated factor for mild VI or worse in participants aged 18–39 years (p < 0.001). Older age, AL ≥30 mm and the presence of MAM were predictors for mild VI or worse in the group aged 40–49 years (all p < 0.05). In participants aged ≥50 years, older age, female sex, longer AL and increased severity of MM were risk factors for VI and blindness (all p < 0.05). Conclusion: The percentages of MM and related VI increased nonlinearly with older age, with a turning point at 45 years for MAM, preceding that of MTM, MNM and VI by 5 years, warranting future longitudinal studies to confirm. Different age groups presented different risk factors for VI. Timely screening should be in place for middle‐aged high myopes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Sedimentary pattern, level, and shaly architecture interfaces with low permeability of complex sandy bodies in fluvial and delta reservoirs affect fluid dynamic behavior and remaining oil distribution. R13 Oil Layer of the Q Oilfield in the Bohai Sea is taken as the mechanic model. The seismic-based approach is used to explore 3D seismic data, build geological models embedded with the interfaces, and quantitatively analyze models with different distribution of interfaces through numerical simulation, revealing the rules of deploying optimal well network and well spacing. The conclusions of this study show that geological models containing shaly architecture interfaces obtained with 3D seismic can reveal the source changes and the feature of architecture interfaces. When the interface permeability is close to zero, the effect of interface preventing fluid low is more obvious; when the length of interfaces in the level of single-river channels is three times of well sparing, the effect of interfaces becomes obvious. And the fluid flow prevention takes effect when the interfaces cut through the reservoir layer. Abstract

The deep‐water Niger Delta continental slope is a prolific petroleum province. A key challenge in unlocking the potential of such petroleum provinces is in understanding the internal architecture and associated controlling factors of deep‐water depositional systems. Here, we used high‐resolution 3D seismic data to analyse the development of a submarine system on the midslope of the Niger continental margin: the Bakama Submarine Depositional System (BSDS). Over 18 km down dip, the BSDS evolves from lobes through straight channels to lobes again. The fills of intraslope Minibasin I comprised three overlapping lobe complexes varying in size from 1,200 to 4,000 m in width, 15 to 30 m in thickness, and 8 to 11 km in length. During the development of these three lobe complexes, Minibasin I and adjacent growth faults interacted with a variety of deep‐water depositional process, which directly influenced the sediment distribution on this slope and the evolution of whole BSDS. Downstream of Minibasin I, ten straight, sub‐parallel adjacent channels occurred on a significantly increased slope (from <2° to >3°). They deeply incise the underlying strata and are small in scale, 150 to 200 m in width, 30 to 45 m in depth with aspect ratios of 4 to 5. On a more gentle slope section (<2°) within the linked downslope intraslope basin (Minibasin II), these adjacent channels are replaced by two attached lobe complexes that are some 2,100 to 3,100 m in length, 600 to 1,700 m in width, and 10 to 30 m in thickness.
