2. A database of high precision trivial choreographies for the planar three-body problem

Abstract

Trivial choreographies are special periodic solutions of the planar three-body problem. In this work we use a modified Newton's method based on the continuous analog of Newton's method and a high precision arithmetic for a specialized numerical search for new trivial choreographies. As a result of the search we computed a high precision database of 462 such orbits, including 397 new ones. The initial conditions and the periods of all found solutions are given with 180 correct decimal digits. 108 of the choreographies are linearly stable, including 99 new ones. Abstract

In this paper we use a Modified Newton's method based on the Continuous analog of Newton's method and high precision arithmetic for a general numerical search of periodic orbits for the planar three-body problem. We consider relatively short periods and a relatively coarse search-grid. As a result, we found 123 periodic solutions belonging to 105 new topological families that are not included in the database in [Science China Physics, Mechanics and Astronomy 60.12 (2017)]. Abstract

Satellites (topological powers) of the famous figure-eight orbit are special periodic solutions of the planar three-body problem. In this paper we use a modified Newton's method based on the Continuous analog of Newton's method and high precision arithmetic for a purposeful numerical search of new satellites of the figure-eight orbit. Over 700 new satellites are found, including 76 new linearly stable ones. 7 of the newly found linearly stable satellites are choreographies. The linear stability is checked by a high precision computing of the eigenvalues of the monodromy matrices. Abstract

In this paper we present in detail Newton's method and its modification, based on the Continuous analog of Newton's method for computing periodic orbits of the planar three-body problem. The linear system at each step of the method is formed by solving a system of ODEs with the multiple precision Taylor series method. We consider zero angular momentum symmetric initial configuration with parallel velocities, bodies with equal masses and relatively short periods. Taking candidates for the correction method with greater return proximity as usual and correcting with the modified Newton's method, allows us to find some new topological families that are not included in the database in [SCIENCE CHINA Physics, Mechanics & Astronomy 60.12 (2017)], Comment: 11 pages, 1 figure, 2 tables

Abstract

The study addressed perioperative monitoring and interpretation of stress-related markers in gynecological surgery. The study included 48 patients, divided into two groups, undergoing gynecological operations. The first group (n=26) were patients operated by open laparotomy while the second group (n=22) patients operated by laparoscopic technique. Total cholesterol, cortisol, thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), thyroxine (FT4) were monitored. The results showed comparable changes in the two groups, with more significant deviations from the baseline values observed in the first group.

Abstract

In this work we propose an efficient parallelization of multiple-precision Taylor series method with variable stepsize and fixed order. For given level of accuracy the optimal variable stepsize determines higher order of the method than in the case of optimal fixed stepsize. Although the used order of the method is greater then that in the case of fixed stepsize, and hence the computational work per step is greater, the reduced number of steps gives less overall work. Also the greater order of the method is beneficial in the sense that it increases the parallel efficiency. As a model problem we use the paradigmatic Lorenz system. With 256 CPU cores in Nestum cluster, Sofia, Bulgaria, we succeed to obtain a correct reference solution in the rather long time interval - [0,11000]. To get this solution we performed two large computations: one computation with 4566 decimal digits of precision and 5240-th order method, and second computation for verification - with 4778 decimal digits of precision and 5490-th order method., Comment: 10 pages, 2 figures. arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:2010.14993

Abstract

A hybrid MPI+OpenMP strategy for parallelizing multiple precision Taylor series method is proposed, realized and tested. To parallelize the algorithm we combine MPI and OpenMP parallel technologies together with GMP library (GNU miltiple precision libary) and the tiny MPIGMP library. The details of the parallelization are explained on the paradigmatic model of the Lorenz system. We succeed to obtain a correct reference solution in the rather long time interval - [0,7000]. The solution is verified by comparing the results for 2700-th order Taylor series method and precision of ~ 3374 decimal digits, and those with 2800-th order and precision of ~ 3510 decimal digits. Abstract

The study included 19 patients undergoing abdominal surgery and 30 trauma patients who were monitored for total cholesterol during hospital treatment. Cortisol, free thyroxine (fT4) and free triiodothyronine (fT3) were also studied in some patients (24 in number). The aim of the study was to compare the levels of cholesterol and hormones in the two groups. The levels of cholesterol and cortisol examined in the early postoperative period in the operated patients were compared with those of the post-traumatic patients taken immediately after their admission to ICU, and in the next few days. The results showed significantly lower serum cholesterol levels in the trauma group and higher baseline cortisol levels in the same group. High cortisol and low cholesterol levels in trauma patients immediately after ingestion indicated the severity of the trauma. The smaller deviation from normal values in the group of operated patients was the evidence of the role of anesthesia and analgesia in reducing perioperative stress and pain.

Abstract

Most of the drugs used in anesthesiology penetrate into placenta. This is one of the reasons for the preference of regional techniques and in particular spinal anesthesia for analgesia during cesarean section. The aim of our study was to compare the degree of neonatal depression under general and spinal anesthesia. We received the necessary information from the patients' medical history, document N2 (pre-anesthesia consultation) and the anesthesia sheet. The results show comparable newborn Apgar values under the two types of anesthesia. Much more significant factors influencing the condition of the newborn are its maturity, weight and height and intrauterine suffering of the fetus. The anesthetics used today for analgesia of operative birth have a minimal depressant effect on the fetus, although they cross the placental barrier.

Abstract

Translocation analysis using fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) is the method of choice for dose assessment in case of chronic or past exposures to ionizing radiation. Although it is a widespread technique, unlike dicentrics, the number of FISH-based inter-laboratory comparisons is small. For this reason, although the current Running the European Network of Biological and Physical retrospective Dosimetry (RENEB) inter-laboratory comparison 2021 was designed as a fast response to a real emergency scenario, it was considered a good opportunity to perform an inter-laboratory comparison using the FISH technique to gain further experience. The Bundeswehr Institute of Radiobiology provided peripheral blood samples from one healthy human volunteer. Three test samples were irradiated with blinded doses of 0, 1.2, and 3.5 Gy, respectively. Samples were then sent to the seven participating laboratories. The FISH technique was applied according to the standard procedure of each laboratory. Both, the frequency of translocations and the estimated dose for each sample were sent to the coordinator using a special scoring sheet for FISH. All participants sent their results in due time. However, although it was initially requested to send the results based on the full analysis, evaluating 500 equivalent cells, most laboratories only sent the results based on triage, with a smaller number of analyzed cells. In the triage analysis, there was great heterogeneity in the number of equivalent cells scored. On the contrary, for the full analysis, this number was more homogeneous. For all three samples, one laboratory showed outlier yields compared to the other laboratories. Excluding these results, in the triage analysis, the frequency of translocations in sample no. 1 ranged from 0 to 0.013 translocations per cell, and for samples no. 2 and no. 3 the genomic mean frequency were 0.27 +/- 0.03 and 1.47 +/- 0.14, with a coefficient of variation of 0.29 and 0.23 respectively. Abstract

HPV infection is involved in the etiology of a number of nonmalignant, premalignant and malignant cutaneous lesions. One of them is the so-called giant condyloma of Buschke-Löwenstein type (Buschke-Löwenstein tumor, BLT), which sometimes can imitate clinically other tumors or tumor-like conditions. Clinicians face a particular challenge in cases of BLT where, clinically, the lesions demonstrate a permanent brown hyperpigmentation in parallel with the dermatoscopic lack of the characteristic melanocytic network, globules or regression zones. There are uncommon clinical presentations with solitary, sharply demarcated pigmented lesions. In these cases the histopathological verification of the lesion is obligatory and the most efficient treatment method in the early period of the disease is the complete surgical excision. We report a case of a 74-year-old man who was admitted to the University Hospital “Lozenetz” in connection with profuse variceal bleeding of the esophagus associated with liver cirrhosis of unknown etiology. He underwent a consultative examination at the department of dermatology because of suspected advanced stage melanoma of the prepuce. Computed tomographic analysis indicated diffuse bone metastases located in the small pelvis and femur, as well as metastatic disease in the left inguinal lymph nodes. However, the subsequent histopathologic examination of the lesion, rather than showing melanoma, confirmed the presence of HPV-associated giant condyloma of Buschke and Löwenstein in initial stage, without histopathological evidence for invasive and destructive tumor growth. After his death, the patient’s relatives did not give consent for an autopsy, and therefore the genesis of the metastases, demonstrated by nuclear magnetic resonance imaging (NMR), remained unclear. In some cases, the clinical picture of the malignant and premalignant cutaneous lesions in the genital area could be problematic. 26. Early Onset Basal Cell Carcinoma: Surgical Approach

Abstract

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most frequent non-melanoma skin cancer. Only 5-15% of BCC cases can be found in patients aged 20-40 years (so-called early onset). The early onset BCC is characterized by active and aggressive tumour growth, clinically presenting in most of the cases as a morpheaform, locally infiltrating or recurrent BCC. Despite the advances in the study of the pathogenesis of this tumour, surgery remains the most used, most effective and most suitable treatment modality. We describe a case of a 39-year-old woman who developed an early onset BCC of the nasolabial fold. After the subsequent surgical excision an excellent cosmetic result was achieved.

Abstract

Antimicrobial agents used to treat infections are lifesaving. Overuse may result in more frequent adverse effects and emergence of multidrug-resistant microorganisms. In 2016–17, we performed the second pointprevalence survey (PPS) of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and antimicrobial use in European acute care hospitals. We included 1,209 hospitals and 310,755 patients in 28 of 31 European Union/European Economic Area (EU/EEA) countries. The weighted prevalence of antimicrobial use in the EU/EEA was 30.5% (95% CI: 29.2–31.9%). The most common indication for prescribing antimicrobials was treatment of a community-acquired infection, followed by treatment of HAI and surgical prophylaxis. Over half (54.2%) of antimicrobials for surgical prophylaxis were prescribed for more than 1 day. The most common infections treated by antimicrobials were respiratory tract infections and the most commonly prescribed antimicrobial agents were penicillins with beta-lactamase inhibitors. There was wide variation of patients on antimicrobials, in the selection of antimicrobial agents and in antimicrobial stewardship resources and activities across the participating countries. The results of the PPS provide detailed information on antimicrobial use in European acute care hospitals, enable comparisons between countries and hospitals, and highlight key areas for national and European action that will support efforts towards prudent use of antimicrobials., peer-reviewed

Abstract

International audience; Purpose: The RENEB accident exercise was carried out in order to train the RENEB participants in coordinating and managing potentially large data sets that would be generated in case of a major radiological event. Materials and methods: Each participant was offered the possibility to activate the network by sending an alerting email about a simulated radiation emergency. The same participant had to collect, compile and report capacity, triage categorization and exposure scenario results obtained from all other participants. The exercise was performed over 27 weeks and involved the network consisting of 28 institutes: 21 RENEB members, four candidates and three non-RENEB partners. Results: The duration of a single exercise never exceeded 10 days, while the response from the assisting laboratories never came later than within half a day. During each week of the exercise, around 4500 samples were reported by all service laboratories (SL) to be examined and 54 scenarios were coherently estimated by all laboratories (the standard deviation from the mean of all SL answers for a given scenario category and a set of data was not larger than 3 patient codes). Conclusions: Each participant received training in both the role of a reference laboratory (activating the network) and of a service laboratory (responding to an activation request). Abstract

When nanoclusters irradiate a metal target a large amount of energy is realized in a small volume which leads to structural changes in metal. These changes can be a consequence of thermal processes or of elastic repulsions of target atoms. The experimental studies fixe the results of these structural changes in the target. The application of methods of mathematical modeling allows to ”see” the dynamics of the irradiation process, including thermal and structural changes. Therefore, the mathematical modeling remains an important tool for such studies. Abstract

Molecular dynamics modeling of the long-range effect in a metal target irradiated with nanoclusters is performed. It is found that moving high-temperature regions merge in the bulk of the target when it is subjected to simultaneous irradiation with several nanoclusters having different areas of interaction with its surface. The temperature in the region of merger risse abruptly and goes past the melting temperature of the target. This can produce structural changes in the crystal lattice at depths inside the target exceeding that of nanocluster penetration, resulting in the long-range effect. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
