The evaluation comprised the excavation of forty trenches measuring 50m x 1.8m. The array of trenches was intended to provide a reasonable sample of the Site in order to establish its archaeological potential. All proposed trenches were opened and investigated between the 28th of February and 25th of March 2022. The evaluation has demonstrated that the Site contains archaeological remains dating to two periods. Late Iron Age/ Romano-British and Medieval. These remains include three Romano-British postholes; a Late Iron Age/Romano-British ditch and four medieval ditches. The distribution of these remains has highlighted further archaeological potential in the northern part of the Site.

The evaluation comprised the excavation of eight trenches measuring 30m x 2m. The array of trenches was intended to provide a reasonable sample of the Site in order to establish its archaeological potential. All proposed trenches were opened and investigated. The evaluation was carried out according to the approved method statement and appears to have met the aims that were set out. With no significant archaeological features, finds or deposits observed during the evaluation it seems reasonable to conclude that the Site contains a relatively low potential for further archaeological remains.

Pre-Construct Archaeology Ltd was appointed by Redrow Homes Ltd to undertake an archaeological evaluation on Land Off Arundel Road, Angmering, West Sussex. The Site is subject of a residential development, outline planning permission was granted in March 2020 with some matters reserved. The archaeological evaluation forms part of a staged approach to understanding the archaeological implications of the proposed development, following the advice of James Kenny, archaeology advisor to the Local Planning Authority. This document provides the results of the archaeological evaluation, which comprised the excavation of 60 30m X 2m trial trenches. The evaluation was carried out in accordance with a Written Scheme of Investigation between the 10th to the 28th of January 2022. It is concluded that the evaluation has demonstrated that there is very low archaeological potential within the Site. Only one archaeological feature of note was observed a relatively large Romano-British ditch. The Mesolithic flint assemblage was recovered from the topsoil across the Site, which would suggest that erosive activity within the Site, such as ploughing, has had a negative effect on any archaeological potential.

Pre-Construct Archaeology Ltd was commissioned by RPS Consulting Ltd to undertake an archaeological investigation on land to the north of Walshes Road, Crowborough, East Sussex, Specifically, consented development Phase 1. The site is the subject of a residential development for which planning permission has been granted by the Local Planning Authority. This document provides the results of the evaluation, which comprised 27no 30m X 2m trial trenches and an area excavation of c.20m X 30m. The investigation was carried out according to the approved method statement and appears to have met the aims that were set out in defining a discrete area of significant archaeological potential, which comprises evidence for Early to Middle Iron Age iron production. Elsewhere, undated features of potential archaeological origin were found to survive at a minimum depth of between c 0.27m and 0.50m below the existing ground surface and over the western half of the site, although in uniformly low concentration. The shallow nature of the majority of archaeological features may suggest erosive agricultural practices may have impacted the Site over a long period, perhaps combined with bioturbation. The investigation was carried out according to the approved method statement and appears to have met the aims that were set out in defining a discrete area of significant archaeological potential, which comprises evidence for Early to Middle Iron Age iron production. The features uncovered in the Area 1 provide evidence for iron smelting and in particular the deposition of the waste products of that process; the evidence has been dated by radiocarbon dating to the Early to Middle Iron Age (specifically 517-380 and 229-92 BCE). The location the features and waste products within a small, natural gully may be taken to suggest the smelting activity was nearby and perhaps relatively short lived. The date, nature and significance of the evidence for iron smelting is set out in specialist reports in Appendices 3-7 and recommendations from those reports form the proposals set out below.

The archaeological excavation was undertaken following the methodology that was detailed in the Written Scheme of Investigation (PCA 2020), which was approved by the Local Planning Authority in advance of the commencement of works. The investigation comprised the mechanical stripping of two areas, Area 1 and Area 2, targeting areas of archaeological potential revealed by evaluation trenches. The total area comprise approximately 1ha. The investigations revealed archaeological resources that show multiple phases of activity within the Site. The earliest activity dates to the Prehistoric period, comprising a series of ditches and some dispersed pits, uncovered in the northeast part of the site. In the western part of the Site features dating to the Saxon, Medieval and Post-medieval periods were uncovered. The Saxon activity is represented by a few linears and dispersed pits. The Medieval activity dominates the western part of the Site. The activity uncovered from this period comprises a series of ditches, interpreted as plot boundaries along the northwest edge of the site, with field boundaries behind - to the southeast. A number of pit dating to the medieval period were area uncovered, including two cess pits and a flint lined well. The post-medieval phase of activity comprises a few dispersed pits and some large ditches, observed running across the Western part of the Site, these are believed to be field boundaries.

Pre-Construct Archaeology Ltd was appointed by RPS Consulting Services Ltd. on behalf of Metis Homes to undertake an archaeological evaluation on land at Long Priors, West Meon, Hampshire. The Site is the subject of a residential development, with associated landscaping and access. The archaeological evaluation forms part of a staged approach to understanding the archaeological implications of the proposed development and follows the advice of the Winchester City Council Historic Environment Team Archaeologist, advisor to the South Downs national Park Authority. This document provides the results of the archaeological evaluation, which comprised the excavation of 6 trial trenches. The evaluation was carried out in accordance with a Written Scheme of Investigation between the 17th and 26th August 2021. The evaluation was carried out in accordance with the approved scheme and appears to have met the aim of the evaluation. Six trenches were excavated and indicate the Site to contain no significant archaeological potential. a shallow undated linear feature, was recorded in Trench 3. This document provides the results of the archaeological evaluation, which comprised the excavation of 68 30m X 2m trial trenches. It may be concluded that the evaluation has demonstrated that there is very limited archaeological potential within the Site. Only one archaeological feature was observed a single, small discrete prehistoric pit. Coupled with the shallow depth of cover of topsoil across the site which would suggest that any archaeological features would have been adversely affected by later activity within the Site.

Pre-Construct Archaeology Ltd (PCA) has been appointed by Mark Veale on behalf of LJ Partnership to carry out an archaeological watching brief on groundwork for a proposed development at The Buttermere Estate, Heath Lane, Buttermere. The development includes the construction of a new estate house with an access drive within the Buttermere Estate. The groundwork revealed clay-with-flint natural in all monitored locations. No significant archaeological remains were observed, and the Site appears to retain no archaeological potential.

Pre-Construct Archaeology Ltd (PCA) was appointed by RPS Consulting Services ltd. to carry out an archaeological evaluation at Egham Gateway West, Egham, Surrey. Twelve trenches were excavated across the site between the 20th of January and the 9th of April 2020. A small number archaeological features were uncovered during this evaluation demonstrating a moderate level of survival across the site. However the archaeological remains were post-medieval in date and of low archaeological significance. The evaluation also demonstrated that later activity has truncated much of the site.

Pre-Construct Archaeology Ltd (PCA) was appointed by Bargate Homes Ltd to undertake a programme of archaeological evaluation on land at Chestnut Avenue, North Stoneham Park, Eastleigh, Hampshire, specifically, consented development Area 5A. The site is the subject of a proposed residential development. The evaluation comprised the excavation of thirty-two trenches measuring 30m x 2m intended to provide a reasonable sample of the Site. All proposed trenches were opened and investigated between the 24th of August and 10th of September 2020. The evaluation has demonstrated that areas of the Site contain archaeological remains dating to three different time periods, Late Iron Age/Early Romano British, Romano British, and post-medieval. The majority of features dating to Late Iron Age/early Romano British and Romano-British periods, were uncovered in the southwestern half of the Site, and seem to be concentrated towards the centre of this area. The evaluation revealed a low number of widely dispersed and mainly linear features of probably late Iron Age and Romano-British date. The linear features may describe enclosures, but their varied alignment does not describe a discernible pattern or regularity. Although the character of the activity is uncertain, the range of features and finds would suggest that the activity is rural and peripheral to settlement. The features are consistent with widespread activity of the periods in the wider landscape of the Itchen Valley and northern extent of the Hampshire basin north of Southampton and as such can be considered as locally significant and comparable across site type and material assemblage with other sites such as Dairy Lane, Nursling and Zionshill Farm, Chandlers Ford. The significance of the archaeological remains appears to be relatively low and of local value, being neither unusual nor exceptionally well-preserved or finds-rich. As such, there appears to be no value in securing their preservation other than by record. If required, this might take the form of a carefully targeted stage of mitigation works that should be agreed with the County Archaeologist in order to meet the requirement of the Local Planning Authority.

Pre-Construct Archaeology Ltd was appointed by Terence O'Rourke Ltd, on behalf of Countryside Properties (UK) Ltd to carry out an archaeological watching brief at Land West of Tangmere, West Sussex. The Site is the subject of a proposed development currently in the pre-application stages. The watching brief was carried out following advice provided to Terence O'Rourke Ltd by James Kenny, Chichester District Archaeological Officer, and comprised monitoring and recording of a geotechnical investigation. The watching brief forms part of a staged approach to understanding the archaeological implications of the proposed development. The geotechnical investigation was carried out by CC Ground Investigations Ltd for Peter Brett Associates LLP. The watching brief was carried between the 11th and 14th of March 2019. The geotechnical investigations revealed a general deposit sequence for the Site, with a relatively shallow topsoil coverage and an underlying geology consistent with what is known of the Pleistocene / early Holocene sequence in the vicinity. Though no significant archaeological remains or features were observed during the monitored works, which, by their nature, afford limited scope for revealing archaeological remains, there is potential for these to survive across the Site; no significant evidence for truncation of the site and, thereby, loss of its archaeological potential, was observed

Pre-Construct Archaeology Ltd (PCA) was appointed by Archaeology Collective, on behalf of Brookhouse Group Ltd, to undertake an archaeological evaluation on Land North of Westhampnett, West Sussex centred at National Grid Reference (NGR) 487403 105558. The Site is the subject of a proposed retail development and associated works. The evaluation forms part of a staged approach to understanding the archaeological implications of the proposed development. This document provides a report on the evaluation, which comprised two trenches; one 25m x 1.8m and one 21m x 1.8m. The evaluation was undertaken between 28th -29th March 2019.The evaluation was completed as planned in accordance with the Written Scheme of Investigation. The evaluation demonstrated that the Site contains no significant archaeological remains.
