Abstract: An optimal Web service composition method is proposed, which includes modeling this problem as a global optimization problem of a sequence of concrete services, quantitatively measuring the functional property of service, and solving the optimal composition solution by optimization method. In the optimization process, genetic algorithm is adopted. First a chromosome coding method to represent a service composition solution is designed, and then two genetic operators and strategies for maintaining diversity of population and avoiding getting trapped in local optima are discussed. Experimental results show that within a finite number of evolving generations this algorithm can generate optimal solution which satisfies to user''s request. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
