The basic problem of development is the very concept of it. Since the dawn of modern China development has gone from being seen as nothing to something; more recently, under the guidance of Marxism, the conceptualization of it has fully drawn on experiences and lessons from Western modernization and the quintessence of outstanding traditional Chinese culture, namely 'zhong he wei yu, an suo sui sheng' (literally meaning that 'the world will be set in a proper order and life will be nourished when the condition of the 'harmonious mean' is reached, and all beings will fulfill their lives once they get comfortable with their positions'). As a result, the Sinicized Marxist concept of development has formed, which differs from that of the West and takes the being of humans as its core standpoint. The concept of development from the perspective of being emphasizes that being is the basic content of development, regards co-existence as a realistic basis of development, and aims at the pursuit of a happy, well-being life as the ultimate goal. The Sinicized Marxist concept of development is not only of great significance to the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, but also of great value to the development of Marxism and the progress of contemporary mankind.

The concentration of atmospheric ozone (O3) pollution is showing a rapid growing tendency, and O3 pollution has become one of the bottleneck issues that restrict the continuous improvement of air quality in China. In this study, we first identified the primary factors based on the source apportionment of O3, then used factor analysis to divide these selected factors into economic and environmental categories. The geographical detector model was used to analyze the impact of factors and their interactions on O3 concentration in 41 cities in the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) region in 2020. The results showed that forest coverage ranked first among all the detected factors, suggesting a strong relationship between the regional O3 concentration and forest coverage. The driving factors of economic activity were ranked as follows: actual utilization of foreign capital (0.400) > gross domestic product (GDP) per capita (0.387) > proportion of tertiary industry (0.360) > urbanization rate (0.327) > per capita consumption expenditure (0.194) > research and development (R&D) of full-time equivalents of industrial enterprises above designated size (0.182) > number of industrial enterprises (0.126). The interaction between any two factors enhanced their influence on O3 concentration more than any single factor, indicating that the variability of regional O3 concentration was an outcome of a combination of multiple factors. This study could provide recommendations for the prevention and control of O3 pollution and the development of ecological integration in the YRD region. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Long‐range transport of PM2.5 from the North China Plain (NCP) by cold frontal passage is considered to be an important haze formation mechanism in the Yangtze River Delta (YRD). However, detailed 3D distributions of PM2.5 and meteorological fields during the front moving through are not fully understood. Herein, in situ observations showed that most haze events in autumn and winter in the YRD were associated with cold frontal passages. A typical cold front episode on November 2–3, 2017, was investigated with unmanned aerial vehicle sounding and model simulations, which both revealed that PM2.5 in the upper air (∼1.0 km) reached the YRD earlier than that moving at the ground level. When the cold front reached the NCP, air pollutants ahead of the front was lifted from the ground level to the upper air. Subsequently, increased PM2.5 concentrations and higher wind speed in the upper air resulted in stronger PM2.5 outflow from the NCP to YRD compared to that at ground level. The maximum PM2.5 mass contribution from the NCP to YRD was 15.6 μg m−3 (accounted for 31.5% of the total PM2.5 in the YRD), which appeared at ∼1.0 km altitude. Compared to the noncold front period, the PM2.5 mass transported from the NCP was 10–15 times higher during the cold front episode. Results indicate that the combination of multisite sounding and elaborate simulation can effectively explain the impact of synoptic processes on the transport, distribution, and evolution of air pollution and provide precise pollution control directives. The concentrations of heavy metals (As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn) were investigated in water, sediment and biota (aquatic plant, fish and shrimp) of Nansi Lake by an inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry. The lower concentrations of heavy metals in lake water and the higher concentrations of heavy metals in sediment implied that there were low-level, persistent inputs of heavy metals in the Nansi Lake. The concentrations of Cr and Fe in aquatic plants exceeded their corresponding toxic concentrations. The correlations among the concentrations of heavy metals in water, sediment, aquatic plants and animals were lower. The factor analysis and the correlation analysis of different heavy metals in water, sediment and aquatic biota samples showed that most heavy metals had the same source except As. This finding implied that As was of different source compared to the other heavy metals in Nansi Lake. The comparison of heavy metals in different samples from upper lake and lower lake showed that the contamination of heavy metals in upper lake was more serious than that in lower lake. The intensive coal mining and more coal thermal plants were an important reason leading to contamination of heavy metals in Nansi Lake. The heavy metals in aquatic organisms were not accumulated along food web except As and Zn. There was a positive correlation between the accumulation of As and Zn and food web based on bioaccumulation factors value in Nansi Lake. Risk assessment of heavy metals in water, sediment and animals indicated that the water environment of Nansi Lake is safe at present.
