1. Millionfold improvement in multivibration-feedback optomechanical refrigeration via auxiliary mechanical coupling

Abstract

The simultaneous ground-state refrigeration of multiple vibrational modes is a prerequisite for observing significant quantum effects of multiple-vibration systems. Here we propose how to realize a large amplification in the net-refrigeration rates based on cavity optomechanics and to largely improve the cooling performance of multivibration modes beyond the resolved-sideband regime. By employing an auxiliary mechanical coupling (AMC) between two mechanical vibrations, the dark mode, which is induced by the coupling of these vibrational modes to a common optical mode and cuts off cooling channels, can be fully removed. We use fully analytical treatments for the effective mechanical susceptibilities and net-cooling rates and find that when the AMC is turned on, the amplification of the net-refrigeration rates by more than six orders of magnitude can be observed. In particular, we reveal that the simultaneous ground-state cooling beyond the resolved-sideband regime arises from the introduced AMC, without which it vanishes. 2. Significant enhancement in refrigeration and entanglement in auxiliary-cavity-assisted optomechanical systems

Abstract

We propose how to achieve significantly enhanced quantum refrigeration and entanglement by coupling a pumped auxiliary cavity to an optomechanical cavity. We obtain both analytical and numerical results, and find optimal-refrigeration and -entanglement conditions under the auxiliary-cavity-assisted (ACA) mechanism. Our method leads to a giant amplification in the net refrigeration rate, and reveals that the ACA entanglement has a much stronger noise-tolerant ability in comparison with the unassisted case. By appropriately designing the ACA mechanism, an effective mechanical susceptibility can be well adjusted, and a genuine tripartite entanglement of cooling-cavity photons, auxiliary-cavity photons, and phonons could be generated. Specifically, we show that both optomechanical refrigeration and entanglement can be greatly enhanced for the blue-detuned driving of the auxiliary cavity but suppressed for the red-detuned case. Abstract

We theoretically study the dynamics of typical optomechanical systems, consisting of a passive optical mode and an active mechanical mode, in the $\mathcal{PT}$- and broken-$\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric regimes. By fully analytical treatments for the dynamics of the average displacement and particle numbers, we reveal the phase diagram under different conditions and the various regimes of both $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetry and stability of the system. We find that by appropriately tuning either mechanical gain or optomechanical coupling, both phase transitions of the $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetry and stability of the system can be flexibly controlled. As a result, the dynamical behaviors of the average displacement, photons, and phonons are radically changed in different regimes. Our study shows that $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric optomechanical devices can serve as a powerful tool for the manipulation of mechanical motion, photons, and phonons., Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures

4. Domino cooling of a coupled mechanical-resonator chain via cold-damping feedback

Abstract

We propose a domino-cooling method to realize simultaneous ground-state cooling of a coupled mechanical-resonator chain through an optomechanical cavity working in the unresolved-sideband regime. This domino-effect cooling is realized by combining the cold-damping feedback on the first mechanical resonator with nearest-neighbor couplings between other neighboring mechanical resonators. We obtain analytical results for the effective susceptibilities, noise spectra, final mean phonon numbers, and cooling rates of these mechanical resonators, and find the optimal-cooling condition for these resonators. Particularly, we analyze a two-mechanical-resonator case and find that by appropriately engineering either the laser power or the feedback, a flexible switch between symmetric and asymmetric ground-state cooling can be achieved. This could be used for preparing symmetric quantum states in mechanical systems. We also simulate the cooling performance of a coupled $N$-mechanical-resonator chain and confirm that these resonators can be simultaneously cooled to their quantum ground states in the unresolved-sideband regime. Under proper parameter conditions, the cooling of the mechanical-resonator chain shows a temperature gradient along the chain. 5. Tunable optomechanically induced transparency by controlling the dark-mode effect

Abstract

We study tunable optomechanically induced transparency by controlling the dark-mode effect induced by two mechanical modes coupled to a common cavity field. This is realized by introducing a phase-dependent phonon-exchange interaction, which is used to form a loop-coupled configuration. Combining this phase-dependent coupling with the optomechanical interactions, the dark-mode effect can be controlled by the quantum interference effect. In particular, the dark-mode effect in this two-mechanical-mode optomechanical system can lead to a double-amplified optomechanically induced transparency (OMIT) window and a higher efficiency of the second-order sideband in comparison with the standard optomechanical system. This is because the effective mechanical decay rate related to the linewidth of the OMIT window becomes a twofold increase in the weak-coupling limit. When the dark-mode effect is broken, controllable double transparency windows appear and the second-order sideband, as well as the light delay or advance, is significantly enhanced. For an N-mechanical-mode optomechanical system, we find that in the presence of the dark-mode effect, the amplification multiple of the linewidth of the OMIT window is nearly proportional to the number of mechanical modes, and that the OMIT with a single window becomes the one with N tunable windows by breaking the dark-mode effect. 6. Nonreciprocal ground-state cooling of multiple mechanical resonators

Abstract

The simultaneous ground-state cooling of multiple degenerate or near-degenerate mechanical modes coupled to a common cavity-field mode has become an outstanding challenge in cavity optomechanics. This is because the dark modes formed by these mechanical modes decouple from the cavity mode and prevent extracting energy from the dark modes through the cooling channel of the cavity mode. Here we propose a universal and reliable dark-mode-breaking method to realize the simultaneous ground-state cooling of two degenerate or nondegenerate mechanical modes by introducing a phasedependent phonon-exchange interaction, which is used to form a loop-coupled configuration. We find an asymmetrical cooling performance for the two mechanical modes and expound this phenomenon based on the nonreciprocal energy transfer mechanism, which leads to the directional flow of phonons between the two mechanical modes. We also generalize this method to cool multiple mechanical modes. 8. Nonreciprocal Photon Transport in a Chiral Optomechanical System.

Abstract

Chiral interaction between light and quantum emitters leads to emergence development of chiral quantum optics and stimulates a wide range of practical applications in quantum regime, such as single‐photon isolation and photon unidirectional emission. Cavity optomechanics studying the interaction between optical and mechanical resonators plays an important role in the field of quantum optics. However, how to achieve the chiral interaction between light and mechanical oscillators and explore the applications of the chiral optomechanical systems are still difficult encountered in cavity optomechanics. Here, a method is proposed to achieve chiral optomechanical interaction by exploiting directional squeezed light in a multimode optomechanical system. Based on the chiral interaction between photon and phonon, the nonreciprocal photon transport at a single‐photon level can be realized. An isolation ratio of >40dB${>}40\ \text{dB}$ and a negligible insertion loss for the photonic isolator are obtained. This method paves the way to realize chiral optomechanical interaction for conducting chiral optomechanics and opens up the prospect of exploring and utilizing chiral photon–phonon manipulation in the quantum regime. 9. Engineering spin-dependent catalysts: chiral covalent organic frameworks with tunable electroactivity for electrochemical oxygen evolution.

Abstract

The chiral-induced spin selectivity (CISS) effect offers promising prospects for spintronics, yet designing chiral materials that enable efficient spin-polarized electron transport remains challenging. Here, we report the utility of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) in manipulating electron spin for spin-dependent catalysis via CISS. This enables us to design and synthesize three three-dimensional chiral COFs (CCOFs) with tunable electroactivity and spin-electron conductivity through imine condensations of enantiopure 1,1′-binaphthol-derived tetraaldehyde and tetraamines derived from 1,4-benzenediamine, pyrene, or tetrathiafulvalene skeletons. The CISS effect of CCOFs is verified by magnetic conductive atomic force microscopy. Compared with their achiral analogs, these CCOFs serve as efficient spin filters, reducing the overpotential of oxygen evolution and improving the Tafel slope. Particularly, the diarylamine-based CCOF showed a low overpotential of 430 mV (vs reversible hydrogen electrode) at 10 mA cm−2 with long-term stability comparable to the commercial RuO2. This enhanced spin-dependent OER activity stems from its excellent redox-activity, good electron conductivity and effective suppression effect on the formation of H2O2 byproducts. 11. Factors Affecting Computer System Maintenance Skills Improvement of Information Technology Students

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the variables that may influence how well students at particular Chinese computer schools are able to maintain their computer systems. It also looked into the types of technology-related leadership behaviors program administrators demonstrated how those behaviors affected and possibly even predicted the various ways that technology was used in schools. Based on the findings, it was determined that the factors that can affect the improvement of information technology students' skills in computer system maintenance were not significantly influenced by time management, test preparation, or reading in terms of sex, monthly family income, or academic performance.

12. Homochiral Covalent Organic Frameworks with Superhelical Nanostructures Enable Efficient Chirality‐Induced Spin Selectivity.

Abstract

Despite significant advancements in fabricating covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with diverse morphologies, creating COFs with superhelical nanostructures remains challenging. We report here the controlled synthesis of homochiral superhelical COF nanofibers by manipulating pendent alkyl chain lengths in organic linkers. This approach yields homochiral 3D COFs 13‐OR with a 10‐fold interpenetrated diamondoid structure (R=H, Me, Et, nPr, nBu) from enantiopure 1,1′‐bi‐2‐naphthol (BINOL)‐based tetraaldehydes and tetraamine. COF‐13‐OEt exhibits macroscopic chirality as right‐handed and left‐handed superhelical fibers, whereas others adopt spherical or non‐helical morphologies. Time‐tracking shows a self‐assembly process from non‐helical strands to single‐stranded helical fibers and intertwined superhelices. Ethoxyl substituents, being of optimal size, balance solvophobic effects and intermolecular interactions, driving the formation of superhelical nanostructures, with handedness determined by BINOL chirality. The superhelical nature of these materials is evident in their chiral recognition and spin‐filter properties, showing significantly improved enantiodiscrimination in carbohydrate binding (up to six times higher enantioselectivity) and a remarkable chiral‐induced spin selectivity (CISS) effect with a 48–51 % spin polarization ratio, a feature absent in non‐helical analogs. 17. Implementation of qutrit-based quantum information processing via state-dependent forces on trapped ions

Abstract

We propose a scheme to realize quantum logic and entanglement for qutrit systems via state-dependent forces on trapped ions. By exploiting the laser-ion coupling in the presence of Coulomb interactions, the set of quantum gate operations including the conditional phase shifts on two qutrits as well as arbitrary SU(3) rotations on single qutrits are derived for universal quantum manipulation. As an illustration, we demonstrate in detail how these gate resources could be used to generate the maximally entangled state of two qutrits. Abstract

Porosity and surface area analysis play a prominent role in modern materials science. At the heart of this sits the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) theory, which has been a remarkably successful contribution to the field of materials science. The BET method was developed in the 1930s for open surfaces but is now the most widely used metric for the estimation of surface areas of micro- and mesoporous materials. Despite its widespread use, the calculation of BET surface areas causes a spread in reported areas, resulting in reproducibility problems in both academia and industry. To prove this, for this analysis, 18 already-measured raw adsorption isotherms were provided to sixty-one labs, who were asked to calculate the corresponding BET areas. This round-robin exercise resulted in a wide range of values. Here, the reproducibility of BET area determination from identical isotherms is demonstrated to be a largely ignored issue, raising critical concerns over the reliability of reported BET areas. To solve this major issue, a new computational approach to accurately and systematically determine the BET area of nanoporous materials is developed. The software, called “BET surface identification” (BETSI), expands on the well-known Rouquerol criteria and makes an unambiguous BET area assignment possible.
