29. Quantification of Antibiotic Residues in Local and Imported Broiler Chicken Meat in Al-Batina Governorate using Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry.

Abstract

Antibiotics are widely used in poultry to increase meat production and prevent infections. The aim of this study is to quantitative and qualitative determination of antibiotic residue in the chicken samples. The antibiotic residues were extracted from the local and imported broiler chicken samples by applying modified established methods and quantified them by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (MS/Q-TOF). Both antibiotics were extracted from the meat and kidney collected from chicken using well-established methods. The extracted samples were analyzed by using the sensitive MS/Q-TOF. The experimental results showed that collected local and imported chicken samples contain five analyzed antibiotics and are within the permissible limit except for gentamicin. In the imported meat sample, the highest amount of antibiotics was, sulfanilamide, and the lowest was levofloxacin. However, in the local breast meat samples, among the analyzed antibiotics, the amount of gentamicin in both local chicken collected from Al Safwa and Waeel is too high, 0.202 m kg-1 and 369.87, respectively compared to the maximum residue level (MRL). Other antibiotics in the breast meat samples are within the MRL values. In kidney samples in the local broiler chicken, the amount of all analyzed antibiotics was within the MRL values. The highest concentration was sulfanilamide, followed by gentamicin > oxytetracycline > chloramphenicol > levofloxacin. In conclusion, all the imported and local broiler meat and kidney contains the five analyzed antibiotics within the MRL values, except gentamicin was available in high amounts in the local breast meat. Abstract

Traditionally, Omanis used bananas to treat gastrointestinal disorders, constipation, and diarrhea. The study aims to determine the pharmacological and toxicological activities of two imported banana varieties collected from the local fruit market. Extracts were prepared separately by soaking the bananas in methanol for seventy-two hours. Then, the extracts were fractionated with various solvents with increasing patterns of polarity to give corresponding crude extracts. All extracts were used to determine their antioxidant, antibacterial, and cytotoxic activities using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), agar gel diffusion, and brine shrimp lethality methods. In the Indian ripe bananas, the highest antioxidant activity was obtained from the ethyl acetate and the lowest in water crude extract. However, in the bananas from the Philippines, the highest activity was in chloroform extract and the lowest in water extract. Both extracts displayed moderate antibacterial activity at different concentrations. The range of inhibition was 0-19 mm against Gram-positive and negative bacterial strains. Both banana extracts showed significant cytotoxic activity at all working concentrations. Crude extracts killed all nauplii at the highest concentration of 500 µg/mL. In Indian bananas, the highest cytotoxic activity was found in the water crude extract with an LC50 value of 27.35µg/mL. The lowest was in ethyl acetate and methanol extracts with an LC50 value of 57.54 µg/mL. Almost similar results were obtained from the Philippines. In conclusion, the polar crude extracts prepared from both varieties of ripe bananas have significant pharmacological and toxicological activities. 41. Morphometrics and Reproductive Characteristics of the Freshwater Crab Sartoriana spinigera from the Habitat of Ratargul Swamp Forest, Bangladesh: An Approach to Conservation.

Abstract

A total of 332 freshwater crab Sartoriana spinigera samples were collected for eight consecutive months from the Ratargul freshwater swamp forest, Bangladesh, to examine their general morphometrics and reproductive traits. The length‐weight relationships of carapace weight with carapace length, width, and depth indicated negative allometric growth. The logarithmic relationship between carapace weight and carapace length, carapace weight and carapace width, and carapace weight and carapace depth exhibited a correlation value of 0.86, 0.79, and 0.56, respectively. Fulton's condition factor and allometric condition factor were found to be highest in March and lowest in October. The sex ratio was 1.59 : 1 for the male to female, which did not show a considerable divergence from the expected 1 : 1 ratio in the chi‐square test (P < 0.05). In July, a maximum of mature individuals was collected and investigated. The fertilization was 1297 ± 629 ova, the ovary weight was 447.22 ± 359.39 mg, and the egg diameter was 375.15 ± 130.18 µm. Histological analysis showed that the male hepatopancreas was well organized and decomposition was reported in the female during the vitellogenic stages of the ovary. Spermatogonium cells were found in the male gonad, and cells from the female gonad were in the vitellogenic mature stage. In conclusion, the research will serve as a foundation for future research work on freshwater crab species as well as the conservation and maintenance of the ecological balance of this species in the Ratargul freshwater swamp forest.
