In this study, we developed and validated the Clinical Student Version of the Japanese Interprofessional Competency Self-Assessment Scale (C-JASSIC) for healthcare students in their clinical practice phase. Data obtained from 331 students (medical, 98; nursing, 99; pharmacy, 134) during orientation for interprofessional education (pre-IPE) and from 319 students (medical, 94; nursing, 93; pharmacy, 132) within a week following IPE (post-IPE) were analyzed. Exploratory pre-IPE and Confirmatory post-IPE factor analyses revealed a consistent 6-factor structure aligning with the Japanese Interprofessional Competency domains. The scale exhibited strong internal consistency, with Cronbach's α values exceeding 0.8 for all factors both pre- and post-IPE. Scores for overall competency and individual domains increased post-IPE in 234 matched cases. A notable significant pre vs post difference concerned "Understanding of Others," indicating enhanced interprofessional comprehension after clinical practice. There was a weak but significant positive correlation between IPE satisfaction and difference in pre- and post-IPE scores. However, no significant differences were observed among medical, nursing, and pharmacy students. Despite its strengths, such as its competency-based design and cultural relevance to Japan, a limitation of the study may be potential self-reporting bias. Nonetheless, C-JASSIC represents a valuable tool for seamless competency evaluations from student to professional stages, with implications for broader Asian contexts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study was to evaluate the nicorandil&apos;s effects on ischemia-reperfusion (IR) lung injury and examine the mechanism of its effects. Methods Isolated rat lungs were divided into 6 groups. In the sham group, the lungs were perfused and ventilated for 150 min. In the IR group, after perfusion and ventilation for 30 min, they were interrupted (ischemia) for 60 min, and then resumed for 60 min. In the nicorandil (N) + IR group, nicorandil 6 mg was added before ischemia (nicorandil concentration was 75 [micro]g ml.sup.-1). In the glibenclamide + N + IR group, the L-NAME (N.sub.[omega]-Nitro-l-arginine methyl ester) + N + IR group and ODQ (1H-[1,2,4]oxadiazolo[4,3-a]quinoxalin-1-one) + N + IR group, glibenclamide 3 [micro]M, L-NAME 100 [micro]M, and ODQ 30 [micro]M were added 5 min before nicorandil administration, respectively. We measured the coefficient of filtration (Kfc) of the lungs, total pulmonary vascular resistance, and the wet-to-dry lung weight ratio (WW/DW ratio). Results Kfc was significantly increased after 60 min reperfusion compared with baseline in the IR group, but no change in the sham group. An increase in Kfc was inhibited in the N + IR group compared with the IR group (0.92 ± 0.28 vs. 2.82 ± 0.68 ml min.sup.-1 mmHg.sup.-1 100 g.sup.-1; P < 0.01). Also, nicorandil attenuated WW/DW ratio was compared with IR group (8.3 ± 0.41 vs. 10.9 ± 2.5; P < 0.05). Nicorandil&apos;s inhibitory effect was blocked by glibenclamide and ODQ (P < 0.01), but not by L-NAME. Conclusions Nicorandil attenuated IR injury in isolated rat lungs. This protective effect appears to involve its activation as K.sub.ATP channel opener as well as that of the sGC-cGMP pathway.

We investigated effects of diazoxide, a selective opener of mitochondrial ATP-sensitive [K.sup.+] (mito[K.sub.ATP]) channels, against brain damage after middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) in male Wistar rats. Diazoxide (0.4 or 2 mM in 30 [micro]l saline) or saline (sham) was infused into the right lateral ventricle 15 min before MCAO. Neurological score was improved 24 h later in the animals treated with 2 mM diazoxide (13.8 [+ or -] 0.7, n = 13) compared with sham treatment (9.5 [+ or -] 0.2, n = 6, P < 0.01). The total percent infarct volume (MCAO vs. contralateral side) of sham treatment animals was 43.6 [+ or -] 3.6% (n = 12). Treatment with 2 mM diazoxide reduced the infarct volume to 20.9 [+ or -] 4.8% (n = 13, P < 0.05). Effects of diazoxide were prominent in the cerebral cortex. The protective effect of diazoxide was completely prevented by the pretreatment with 5-hydroxydecanoate (100 mM in 10 [micro]l saline), a selective blocker of mito[K.sub.ATP] channels (n = 6).
