Gejala penyakit oleh fitonematoda ditemukan pada pertanaman jambu biji di Desa Cibening, Kecamatan Pamijahan, Kabupaten Bogor, Jawa Barat. Tanaman sakit menunjukkan gejala antara lain: tanaman kerdil, daun menguning, nekrotik akar dan puru akar. Ekstraksi nematoda dilakukan dari 100 mL sampel tanah dan 5 g sampel akar tanaman jambu biji. Identifikasi dilakukan secara morfologi dengan mengamati karakter kunci dari setiap genus fitonematoda yang ditemukan. Penghitungan jumlah nematoda dilakukan pada setiap genus fitonematoda. Enam genus fitonematoda berhasil diidentifikasi, yaitu Criconemoides, Helicotylenchus, Hoplolaimus, Meloidogyne, Rotylenchulus, dan Xiphinema dengan jumlah berkisar 8–2300 ekor. Tulisan ini merupakan laporan pertama nematoda parasit pada jambu biji di Provinsi Jawa Barat.

This survey aims to determine the diversity and abundance of nematodes in some plants either horizontally or vertically. Observations horizontally ie by comparing the diversity and abundance of plants nemtoda woetel with different cropping ie monoculture and polyculture. While vertically observations made by comparing the abundance and diversity of nematodes from different soil depths are 0-10, 10-20, and 20-30 in the cabbage and tomatoes. The survey conducted on November 22, 2014, in the village of Sukatani, Cianjur Regency Indonesia. Survey sites located at an altitude of 1,200 meters above sea level, a survey using a zig-zag method, each sample was repeated three times. Laboratory analysis done by extracting the land acquired, and then counting the number of nematode populations obtained under the microscope. Results of the analysis showed there were eleven genus nemtoda obtained by the Rabditis sp., Pratylenchus sp., Helichotilenchus sp., Meloidogyne sp., Rotylenchus sp., Tylenchorynchus sp., Trichodorus sp., Criconemoides sp., Hoplolaimus sp., Dyctilenchus sp., and Monochus sp. spread either horizontally or vertically.

Water shortages have increased Egyptian growers interest towards drip irrigation. Conventional and drip, are two types of irrigation systems which wereselected to investigate their effect on the fluctuation of the populations of some plant parasitic nematodes on growth of different vegetable host plants: tomato(Lycopersicon esculentum), eggplant(Solanum melongena), peppers(Capsicum annum), cucumber(Cucumis sativus), and cowpea(Vigna sinenses). The predominant genera of plant parasitic nematodes recovered from soil samples (Pi & Pf) were Meloidogyne, Helicotylenchus, Pratylenchus, Paratylenchus, Rotylenchulus, Hoplolaimus, Tylenchorhynchus,and Xiphinema. On the whole the results showed that, Meloidogyne and Pratylenchus were the most common plant parasitic nematode in the plant hosts (cucumber tomatoeggplant peppers cowpea) and the nematode population were lesser in drip irrigated plants (97.3, 69.0, 87.0, 81.0, 83.3 and 71.3, 46.7, 69.7, 59.0 63.0) respectively, than those of conventional irrigation (104.3, 83.7, 93.0, 85.7, 88.0 and 75.3, 68.0, 80.3, 64.0, 72.3) respectively. We can conclude that, the drip irrigation system can be used as a Strategy of nematode pests in combination with different strategies without greatly affecting on the crop growth.

The reviews on production of banana during the recent years were not a satisfying one with respect to fourth position of Kerala in area of cultivation in India. Among so many factors for this declination, plant parasitic nematodes also found as a major negative factor. Thus the present study tried to prove this predict and conducted a survey in the unexplored rhizosphere region of an important crop banana (Nendran) in Palakkad taluk of Kerala, India during the post monsoon season of 2017. A total of twenty seven samples each were collected from banana rhizosphere soil and roots and processed for this study. The analysis revealed that the most abundant nematode population was Radopholus spp. and most frequently occurred genus was Meloidogyne spp. in the studied banana fields. The major diversity showing area were Elappully panchayath for rhizosphere soil samples and Kannadi panchayath for root samples. Different plant parasitic nematodes such as Aphelenchus spp., Criconemoides spp., Dory laimoides spp., Helicotylenchus spp., Hoplolaimus spp., Meloidogyne sp p., Pratylenchus spp., Radopholus spp., Rotylenchulus spp., Tylenchoryn chus spp. and Tylenchus spp. were observed in both soil and root samples examined.

Background The plant-parasitic nematode Hoplolaimus columbus is a pathogen that uses a wide range of hosts and causes substantial yield loss in agricultural fields in North America. This study describes, for the first time, the complete mitochondrial genome of H. columbus from South Carolina, USA. Methods The mitogenome of H. columbus was assembled from Illumina 300 bp pair-end reads. It was annotated and compared to other published mitogenomes of plant-parasitic nematodes in the superfamily Tylenchoidea. The phylogenetic relationships between H. columbus and other 6 genera of plant-parasitic nematodes were examined using protein-coding genes (PCGs). Results The mitogenome of H. columbus is a circular AT-rich DNA molecule 25,228 bp in length. The annotation result comprises 12 PCGs, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, and 19 transfer RNA genes. No atp8 gene was found in the mitogenome of H. columbus but long non-coding regions were observed in agreement to that reported for other plant-parasitic nematodes. The mitogenomic phylogeny of plant-parasitic nematodes in the superfamily Tylenchoidea agreed with previous molecular phylogenies. Mitochondrial gene synteny in H. columbus was unique but similar to that reported for other closely related species. Conclusions The mitogenome of H. columbus is unique within the superfamily Tylenchoidea but exhibits similarities in both gene content and synteny to other closely related nematodes. Among others, this new resource will facilitate population genomic studies in lance nematodes from North America and beyond.

Fusarium wilt (Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici), root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.), and purple nutsedge (Cyperus rotundus L.) are among the most damaging soilborne pests for tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) production in the southeastern United States. Allyl isothiocyanate (allyl ITC) was evaluated as a potential fumigant alternative for control of soilborne pathogens, nematodes, and weeds. Shank- or drip-injected allyl ITC at rates ranging from 221 to 367 kg ha−1 exhibited excellent performance, reducing the recovery of total F. oxysporum from treated soils. Shank- or drip-injected allyl ITC at 367 kg ha−1 provided equivalent control of C. rotundus compared with 1,3-dichloropropene + chloropicrin and metam potassium, respectively. Totally impermeable film (TIF) did not further reduce the recovery of F. oxysporum and various nematodes from soil treated with allyl ITC compared with virtually impermeable film (VIF). However, TIF mulch significantly improved C. rotundus control versus shank- or drip-injected allyl ITC treatments under VIF mulch. Overall, allyl ITC is an effective methyl bromide alternative against F. oxysporum, C. rotundus, and plant-parasitic nematodes Criconemella spp. and Hoplolaimus spp. in plasticulture tomato production.

In Georgia, pecans are commercially grown in the Piedmont and Coastal Plain ecoregions which are characterized by sandy-loam, sandy, and/or clay soils. If well-drained, these soils are suitable for pecan production, but the soil characteristics differ enough between ecoregions in which the plant-parasitic nematode (PPN) communities could differ substantially. We studied PPN communities in pecan orchards to evaluate the potential for ecoregion differences. In total, 11 genera (Helicotylenchus, Hemicycliophora, Heterodera, Hoplolaimus, Meloidogyne, Mesocriconema, Pratylenchus, Paratylenchus, Paratrichodorus, Tylenchorhynchs, Xiphenema) were recovered from pecan orchards in the Piedmont and Coastal Plain ecoregions. However, Non-Metric Multi-Dimensional Scaling ordination, Multi-Rank Permutation Procedure, and Indicator Species Analyses indicated that the pecan PPN communities strongly differed between ecoregions and that different genera were strongly associated with different ecoregions. For 9 of the 11 PPN genera, the maximum counts occurred in Coastal Plain locations, suggesting that the well-drained sandy soils of the Coastal Plain and comparatively ill-drained red clay soils of the Piedmont may be conducive and unfavorable for movement/reproduction of PPNs, respectively.

An intensive field study was carried out during the period from December, 27th 2016 to November, 3rd 2017 to survey nematode associations of doum palm trees, Hyphaene thebaica in Aswan governorate, Southern Egypt. In this regard, a total of 105 composite rhizosphere soil and root samples were collected from different provinces (Aswan, Daraw, Edfu and Kom Ombo) belonging to Aswan governorate. Nematodes were extracted by Cobb’s wet-sieving and centrifugal sugar flotation techniques and identified to the genus level according to the original body descriptions and standard identification keys of plant-parasitic nematodes. Fourteen genera were found to be associated with the rhizosphere of doum palms and could be descendly arranged based on their frequency of occurrence (FO%) as follows: Meloidogyne (46.7%), Rotylenchulus (33.3%), Helicotylenchus (27.6%), Aphelenchus (17.1%), Tylenchus (14.3%),Hemicriconemoides (12.4%), Tylenchorhynchus (9.5%), Ditylenchus (8.6%), Aphelenchoides (7.6%), Pratylenchus (6.7%), Trichodorus (5.7%), Criconemella (4.8%), Paratylenchus (3.8%) and Hoplolaimus (2.9%). It was clearly noticed that root-knot (Meloidogyne), reniform (Rotylenchulus) and spiral (Helicotylenchus) nematodes appeared to be the most prominent genera recording high prominence value (PV) reaching 3444, 2816 and 1902, respectively and population density (PD) 504, 488 and 362 nematodes/250 cc3 soil, consequently, whereas the rest genera were less prominent representing PV ranging between 109-595 with PD reaching 46-201 nematodes/250 cc3 soil. Examination of root samples revealed the presence of ideal root galling caused by Meloidogyne and their sedentary adult females were isolated and subjected to the traditional identification to the species level using perineal pattern test and reconfirmed by the biochemical and molecular identification methods. Meloiodogyne javanica appeared to be the predominant root-knot nematode species in this study. The current results updated the database of nematode associations with their plant hosts in Egypt and introduced doum palm as new host of M. javanica and probably to other nematodes.

Summary Hoplolaimus smokyensis n. sp. is a new species of lance nematode collected in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, USA. Females of H. smokyensis n. sp. have a labial region characterised by six, occasionally five, annules. The basal lip annule is subdivided by about 24 longitudinal striae. The stylet averages 47 μm long with robust, tulip-shaped stylet knobs bearing anterior projections. The hemizonid is ca 4 μm anterior to the excretory pore. The lateral field is incompletely areolated and has four continuous incisures from the metacorpus region to the tail region. There are three pharyngeal gland nuclei. Vulval epiptygma are absent. The scutellate phasmids are located one anterior and one posterior to the vulva. The male is shorter than the female and the head region is higher and more rounded than that of the female. The bursa extends to the tail tip and the gubernaculum is large and protrusible and has titillae and a capitulum. Morphologically, H. smokyensis n. sp. is most similar to H. galeatus and H. stephanus, but can be distinguished by differences such as the number of annules and longitudinal striae on the lip region and morphometric values. Hoplolaimus smokyensis n. sp. is also genetically distinct from other species according to comparisons of ribosomal and mitochondrial DNA sequences. Phylogenetic analyses based on ribosomal and mitochondrial gene sequences suggest that H. smokyensis n. sp. is a lineage distinct from related Hoplolaimus species.

A field treatment was conducted to evaluate the nematicidal activity of chicken manure and biopesticides (bio- arc , bio-zeid and nemex) viz. chemical nematicides (fydal 24 % SL , tervigo (2% SC), laguna (40% EC) and nemathorin (10% G) against plant –parasitic nematodes infecting fruit orchard located in Sharkia Governorate during 2018. Treatments of chicken manure was at the rate of 30 Kg/ tree , while that of biopesticides were applied at rate of 160 g/tree with bio-arc and bio-zeid , whereas nemex was applied at rate of 24 mL/ tree. Chemical nematicides were applied at rates of 15 mL//tree , 50 g/ tree , 24 mL/tree and 12 mL with fydal 24 % SL, tervigo , laguna and nemathorin , respectively. Samples were taken monthly during three months after application. Results indicated that of the eight tested materials, fydal was the most effective in suppressing umbers of phytonematodes followed by chicken manure while among biopesticides , bio- arc was the least effective one. After one month of application, remarkable decreased in numbers of plant-parasitic nematodes was detected. For instance, in fydal and chicken manure treatments, percentages of reduction in numbers of Tylenchulus semipenetrans, Pratylenchus spp., Tylenchorhynchus spp., Hoplolaimus spp. and Helicotylenchus spp. were diminished by 49.75 %(40.92 %) ,56.97% (53.54%), 55.47% (55.83%), 50.53% (50.53%) and 52.52 % (50.42%), respectively. After two months of application, percentage of reduction was increased to reach 69.25 %(68.53%) ,81.26% (71.37%), 83.18% (80.08%), 86.92% (83.00%) and 81.77 % (61.93%), respectively for mentioned nematodes. On the other hand, after three months of application, no significant differences ) P ≤ 0.05) was noticed between fydal and chicken manure whereas, the biopesticides were the least effectiveness against plant –parasitic nematodes. Generally, results emphasized that chicken and biopesticides could be used to minimize the population density of plant- parasitic nematodes in citrus orchards.

Distribution and identification of phytonematodes associated with wheat grown in twelve provinces of Northern and Middle Egypt were investigated during two growing seasons (2016-2017 and 2017-2018). A total of 929 soil and root samples were collected from 119 localities (villages/farms) belonging to 37 districts. Samples contained fourteen nematode genera and species viz., Aphelenchoides, Criconemella, Ditylenchus, Helicotylenchus, Heterodera, Hirschmanniella oryzae, Hoplolaimus, Longidorus,Meloidogyne, Pratylenchus, Rotylenchulus reniformis, Tylenchorhynchus, Ttylenchus and Xiphinema. The stunt nematodes (Tylenchorhynchus spp.), the root-lesion nematodes (Pratylenchus spp.), the spiral nematodes (Helicotylenchus spp.) and the cyst nematodes (Heterodera spp.) were the most frequent nematodes in all samples. The stunt nematodes had the highest occurrence with 47.4%, population density with 48.2 and prominence value with 33.2. The root-lesion nematodes ranked the second after Tylenchorhynchus spp., in terms of frequency of occurrence (13.77%), while the cyst nematodes had the second order after the stunt nematodes, in terms of population density (24.8) and prominence value (5.4). The spiral nematodes occupied the third rank, in terms of frequency of occurrence (5.5%), and the last rank in terms of both of population density and prominence value (9 and 2.1, respectively).

Summary Plant-parasitic nematodes restrict crop growth and cause yield loss in field pea (dry edible pea). A 4-year survey of commercial pea fields was conducted in North Dakota, one of the leading producers of field pea in the USA, to investigate nematode distribution, prevalence, abundance and association with soil properties. Beginning in 2014, a total of 243 soil samples were collected from 16 counties, and soil properties of 115 samples were analysed to determine the association of nematodes with soil factors (texture, organic matter, nutrients). The plant-parasitic nematode genera, Paratylenchus (absolute frequency = 58-100%; mean density = 470-1550 (200 g soil)−1; greatest density = 7114 (200 g soil)−1) and Tylenchorhynchus (30-80%; 61-261; 1980, respectively), were the most frequent and widely distributed. Pratylenchus and Helicotylenchus were identified in one-third of the counties surveyed with mean densities ranging from 43 to 224 and 36 to 206 (200 g soil)−1, respectively. Xiphinema was found relatively frequently but at low densities. Hoplolaimus and Paratrichodorus were rarely detected at lower densities. Canonical correspondence analysis revealed that soil factors explained 19% of the total variance of nematode genera abundance. The relationship between nematode abundance and soil sand content and pH was significant, while clay, silt, organic matter and nutrients were not significantly related to nematode abundance. This is the first multi-year study investigating nematodes associated with field peas and their relationship with soil factors in a major field pea production region of the USA.

Nematodes are important soil organisms that constitute a key component of the soil ecosystem. A plant-parasitic survey was conducted to identify the diversity of nematodes associated with two endemic tea plants, honeybush (Cyclopia spp.) and rooibos (Aspalathus linearis) in the Western Cape province of South Africa. A total of 20 farmlands were surveyed and soil samples were collected from the rhizosphere of plants, for nematode isolation and identification based on morphological characters. Confirmation of the species of plant-parasitic nematodes was done using molecular-based tools. Nematodes were classified into various feeding groups based on their colonizer-persister (c-p) values. Plant-feeding nematodes identified from the honeybush tea plants include; Criconema mutabile, Meloidogyne hapla, M. javanica, and Xiphinema oxycaudatum, while Hoplolaimus sp., Neodolichorhynchus estherae and Pratylechus bolivianus were pathogenic on the rooibos monocultures. Bacterial and fungal feeders (Cephalobidae and Rhabditidae) were also abundant and frequently encountered in all samples. Rice is the third most important crop in Kenya after maize and wheat. Plant parasitic nematodes (PPN) are a major rice production constraint. The objective of this study was to determine the distribution and abundance of rice PPN in Kenya and their association with environmental variables. Soil and plant samples were collected from rainfed upland and irrigated lowland rice fields in Kirogo, Thiba, Nyangati, Ombeyi, Kombura, Kakola and Mwambe Sub-locations. Twenty-two PPN genera were identified across all Sub-locations with the highest (20) number of nematode genera recorded in rainfed upland rice fields. The nematode genera Scutellonema, Hoplolaimus, Ditylenchus, Hemicycliophora, Heterodera, Paralongidorus and Tylenchus were not recorded in the irrigated lowland rice fields while Criconemella and Tylenchorhynchus were not observed in rainfed upland fields. Root and soil samples were collected and examined from faba bean (Vicia faba L.) fields in Khuzestan province, southwestern Iran. Seven nematode species were identified as follows: Ditylenchus dipsaci, Ditylenchus medicaginis, Geocenamus bavaricus, Geocenamus brevidens, Geocenamus nanus, Geocenamus nothus and Hoplolaimus seinhorsti. Morphometrics and light micrography were provided for the studied species and their differences with those given in their original descriptions were discussed. Populations varied in their frequency and distribution among surveyed faba bean fields but G. brevidens was the most commonly observed species. This is new record of D. dipsaci, D. medicaginis, G. bavaricus, G. nanus and G. nothus for nematodes fauna in Khuzestan province. G. bavaricus, G. nanus, G. nothus and H. seinhorsti are reported for the first time in association with faba bean in Iran. This is the first report of G. brevidens and G. nanus from roots of faba bean.

Numerous genera of plant-parasitic nematodes are frequently present at high populations in golf course putting greens. The objectives of this research were to identify and quantify plant-parasitic nematodes from Oklahoma bentgrass putting greens and to characterize specific soil physical and chemical features and management factors that may account for differences in or associated with the observed nematode populations. In the fall of 2000, nematodes were identified from 99 individual bentgrass putting greens sampled from 46 different locations in Oklahoma. In addition to green age and bentgrass cultivar; soil pH, nitrate-nitrogen (NO3-N), plant-available phosphorus and potassium, organic matter (OM), bulk density, and particle size distribution were determined for each green. Expenditures on management activities, including fertilizer, herbicide, fungicide, and insecticide, were determined for 20 of the sampled courses and compared with nematode populations. Nematodes from seven genera were found in Oklahoma greens, with Criconemella spp. being the most common. Paratrichodorus spp., Tylenchorhynchus spp., and Helicotylenchus spp. also were common. The logarithmic populations of all nematodes combined increased with greater green age (r = 0.37). A negative relationship was observed between soil bulk density and all nematodes combined (r = –0.29). Soil NO3-N, plantavailable K, and OM increased with combined logarithmic populations of all plant parasitic nematodes (r = 0.23, 0.28, and 0.37, respectively). A four-factor model accounted for 75% of the total variation in the data and permitted groupings of all variables into four uncorrelated factors. Total logarithmic nematode populations increased with fungicide and herbicide expenditures (r = 0.31). This study suggests that populations of plant-parasitic nematodes may be influenced by the putting green abiotic soil environment and possibly indirectly by management practices on putting greens. Seashore paspalum (Paspalum vaginatum Swartz) is a warm-season grass capable of growing in the saline environments present in coastal areas of Florida (2). A major limitation of cultivating turfgrasses in the sandy soils of Florida is the destruction of roots by plant-parasitic nematodes (3). A survey was performed to determine the plant-parasitic nematodes associated with seashore paspalum. Sampling locations ranged from Daytona Beach to Miami Beach on the eastern coast and from Tampa to Naples on the western coast. Soil samples were taken during the spring and summer months of 2002 and 2003 from different golf courses and home lawns. In 2002, soil samples were taken from five golf courses (37 samples) and seven home lawns (17 samples). In the next year, three golf courses (23 samples) and 13 home lawns (34 samples) were sampled. Nematodes were extracted from 100 cm3 soil samples using a modified centrifugal-sugar flotation technique (1). Ten genera of plant-parasitic nematodes were present from the samples obtained from golf courses. In addition, two more plant-parasitic nematode genera were present in samples from home lawns. The genera most frequently detected were Hoplolaimus, Mesocriconema, Hemicriconemoides, and Helicotylenchus, which were found at 100, 100, 88, and 88% of the golf courses surveyed and at 75, 95, 70, and 85% of the home lawns sampled, respectively. Genera Xiphinema, Pratylenchus, and Tylenchorhynchus, were found in less than 30% of the golf courses and less than 45% of the home lawns sampled. Genera Peltamigratus and Hemicycliophora were associated with a low percentage of the home lawns. A moderately high frequency of the genus Belonolaimus present in soil samples from golf courses (50%) and home lawns (40%) was consistent for other grasses grown in sandy soils associated with coastal areas in Florida (4). Populations of the genera Belonolaimus, Hoplolaimus, Helicotylenchus, Trichodorus, Hemicriconemoides, and Mesocriconema were above the action threshold levels for bermudagrass used by the University of Florida Nematode Assay Laboratory. Genera Hoplolaimus, Belonolaimus, and Trichodorus were associated with irregular-shaped yellowing and declining turfgrass areas sampled in this survey. Large populations of Helicotylenchus spp. (>500 nematodes per 100 cm3 of soil) were often found associated with seashore paspalum. A survey of Miscanthus × giganteus and switchgrass plots throughout the midwestern and southeastern United States was conducted to determine the occurrence and distribution of plant-parasitic nematodes associated with these biofuel crops. During 2008, rhizosphere soil samples were collected from 24 Miscanthus × giganteus and 38 switchgrass plots in South Dakota, Iowa, and Illinois. Additional samples were collected from 11 Miscanthus × giganteus and 10 switchgrass plots in Illinois, Kentucky, Georgia, and Tennessee the following year. The 11 dominant genera recovered from the samples were Pratylenchus, Helicotylenchus, Xiphinema, Longidorus, Heterodera, Hoplolaimus, Tylenchorhynchus, Criconemella, Paratrichodorus, Hemicriconemoides, and Paratylenchus. Populations of Helicotylenchus, Xiphinema, and Pratylenchus were common and recorded in 90.5, 83.8, and 91.9% of the soil samples from Miscanthus × giganteus, respectively, and in 91.6, 75, and 83.3% of the soil samples from switchgrass, respectively. Prominence value (PV) (PV = population density × √frequency of occurrence/10) was calculated for the nematodes identified. Helicotylenchus had the highest PV (PV = 384) and was followed by Xiphinema (PV = 152) and Pratylenchus (PV = 72). Several of the nematode species associated with the two biofuels crops were plant parasites. Of these, Pratylenchus penetrans, P. scribneri, P. crenatus, Helicotylenchus pseudorobustus, Hoplolaimus galeatus, X. americanum, and X. rivesi are potentially the most damaging pests to Miscanthus × giganteus and switchgrass. Due to a lack of information, the damaging population thresholds of plant-parasitic nematodes to Miscanthus × giganteus and switchgrass are currently unknown. However, damage threshold value ranges have been reported for other monocotyledon hosts. If these damage threshold value ranges are any indication of the population densities required to impact Miscanthus × giganteus and switchgrass, then every state surveyed has potential for yield losses due to plant-parasitic nematodes. Specifically, Helicotylenchus, Xiphinema, Pratylenchus, Hoplolaimus, Tylenchorhynchus, Criconemella, and Longidorus spp. were all found to have population densities within or above the threshold value ranges reported for other monocotyledon hosts.

Plant-parasitic nematodes (PPNs) are an important group of pathogens on sugarbeet. Surveys were conducted in the Red River Valley (RRV) area of North Dakota (ND) and Minnesota (MN) to determine the incidence, abundance, and distribution of PPNs in sugarbeet fields. A total of 217 soil samples were collected in 2016 and 2017 from fields with sugarbeet or a history of sugarbeet production. In addition, 48 samples were collected in 2016 from tare soils in sugarbeet piling stations, and two samples were collected in 2017 from sugarbeet production fields in eastern Montana (MT) and western ND border area. The incidence and abundance of major genera of PPNs identified from sugarbeet production fields in 2016 and 2017 were: Heterodera (incidence = 15%, abundance = 1,351/200 gm of soil); Helicotylenchus (38%, 157); Tylenchorhynchus (37%, 121); Paratylenchus (28%, 108); Pratylenchus (6%, 38); Paratrichodorus (7%, 37); Xiphinema (3%, 32); and Hoplolaimus (0.4%, 20). Helicotylenchus, Tylenchorhynchus, Paratylenchus, and Heterodera were the most frequent and widely distributed nematode genera whereas, Paratrichodorus and Pratylenchus were found less frequently and at low densities. Xiphinema and Hoplolaimus were rarely detected at lower densities. Paratylenchus and Tylenchorhynchus were widely distributed in most of the sampled counties (n = 11), followed by Helicotylenchus (10), Heterodera (8), Pratylenchus (8), Xiphinema (4), Paratrichodorus (3), and Hoplolaimus (1). Species-specific PCR assays and direct sequencing of ribosomal DNA were conducted to identify species. Species identification revealed that the cyst nematodes from one of the counties in eastern MT were Heterodera schachtii and the cyst nematodes analyzed from 31 samples in 12 counties in ND and MN were H. glycines. We have not identified any H. schachtii thus far from surveyed samples in eastern ND and western MN. Other nematode species identified include Paratrichodorus allius, Pratylenchus neglectus, Tylenchorhynchus sp., Paratylenchus nanus, Helicotylenchus microlobus, and H. pseudorobustus. Accurate identification of these nematodes and awareness of their occurrence across the region is essential for developing effective pest management strategies for improved sugarbeet production.

Plant-parasitic nematodes (PPNs) are a major risk to yam (Dioscorea spp.) production in Nigeria. With the aim of establishing plant-parasitic nematode genera associated with yam tubers in Nasarawa State in order to engender sustainable management options and mitigation policies for their control, surveys were conducted in the main yam-producing local government areas (LGAs) of Nasarawa. A total of 54 yam farms were surveyed for PPNs and their associated damage on yam using multi-stage sampling technique. Three communities each, in Lafia, Keana, Kokona, Awe, Obi and Doma LGAs were assessed for the incidence of PPNs and their associated damages on yam. A total of 54 farmers’ fields and 60 yam tubers were assessed in the study. The survey revealed that the eleven PPNs genera were recovered from the soil and tubers of infected yam included Pratylenchus, Hoplolaimus, Helicotylenchus, Criconema, Meloidogyne, Rotylenchus, Scutellonema, Xiphenema, Tylenchulus, Trichodorus and Rotylenchus. Meloidogyne (75.29%, Scutellonema (57.20) and Pratylenchus (44.55%), in order of descending ranking, had the highest incidences across the six LGAs. The destructive activities of these nematodes lead to in unattractive, verrucose or knobby appearances on infected yam tubers, thereby resulting in low to extremely low tuber quality of marketable yams in Nasarawa State.

Morphological observations are made on several populations of Hoplolaimus indicus and Hoplolaimus seinhorsti, recovered from rhizosphere of mango, tamarind, sour orange and sugarcane from the southern regions of Iran. Detailed studies on the two species Hoplolaimus dubius and H. indicus being separated from each other based on some morphological characters, revealed each of them having intra-specific and overlapping variations in morphology and morphometric ranges, enough for not separating two closely related aforementioned species and as a result, H. dubius is considered as a junior synonym of H. indicus. Observations on H. seinhorsti also supported the Siddiqi's decision on the synonymy of Hoplolaimus sheri with H. seinhorsti. The results of the phylogenetic analyses using D2-D3 expansion segments of 28S rRNA gene were in agreement with the results of previous works, i.e. the classic scheme for assigning species of the genus into two "ancestral" and/or "derived" groups was supported. In phylogenetic trees inferred, using different analysis methods, the Iranian populations of H. indicus were located in the same clade with H. seinhorsti and H. columbus, belonging to "derived" group of species of the genus characterized by having six nuclei in pharyngeal glands, less than four incisures at each lateral field and anteriorly situated position of excretory pore to hemizonid.

Hoplolaimus columbus is an important nematode pest of soybean in South Carolina and North Carolina. Tolerant cultivars are available for the management of this plant-parasitic nematode; however, variation in the response of soybean cultivars to H. columbus populations has been observed. This variation may be due to the presence of different species or high genetic diversity of H. columbus populations. The objective of this study was to identify the Hoplolaimus spp. present in fields representing the main soybean-growing regions in South Carolina and North Carolina and to examine the genetic variability of these populations. In South Carolina, the only species found associated with soybean was H. columbus but, in North Carolina, H. stephanus was the dominant species. The two species were never found together. Genetic variability analyses of a mitochondrial and a nuclear marker showed that only one haplotype was shared by the H. columbus populations. H. stephanus showed higher genetic variability, with private haplotypes per sampling location. Knowledge of the distribution and genetic variability of these two Hoplolaimus spp. is valuable to growers to determine potentially damaging infestations of these plant-parasitic nematodes in soybean fields.

Plant-parasitic nematodes are of considerable importance worldwide and their devastating effects on crops have major economic and social impacts. They depend on plants and feed on all parts of the plant including roots, stems, leaves, flowers and seeds. The majority of species of plant-parasitic nematodes live on or around plant roots. Nematode damage of the plant’s root system also provides an opportunity for other plant pathogens to invade the root and thus further weakens the plant. A study was carried out to isolate and identify different genera of plant parasitic nematodes from the rhizospheres of pear plants in one of the major pear producing area of Nepal, Chhaimale VDC of Kathmandu district. Altogether seven species of root nematodes were isolated from soil samples collected: Tylenchorhynchus sp., Longidorus sp., Helicotylenchus sp., Hoplolaimus sp., Aphelenchus sp., Mononchus sp. and Diplogaster sp. Among isolated species of nematodes Tylenchorhynchus sp., Longidorus sp., Helicotylenchus sp., and Hoplolaimus sp. are parasitic, Aphelenchus sp. is mycophagic and Mononchus sp. and Diplogaster sp. are predatory in nature. Number of nematodes were not significantly different in different season and at different locations.

A survey was undertaken to determine the frequency and abundance ofplant-parasitic nematodes associated with garlic (Allium sativum L.) in major garlicproduction governorates in Yemen. Twenty nematode genera were found inassociation with garlic in Sana'a, Ibb and Hadramout governorates of whichAntarctenchus, Aphelenchoides, Aphelenchus, Basiria, Boleodorus, Ditylenchus,Helicotylenchus, Heterodera, Hoplolaimus, Meloidogyne, Microposthonia,Nothanguina, Pratylenchus, Rotylenchulus, Rotylenchus, Scutellonema,Tetylenchus, Tylenchorhynchus, Tylenchus and Zygotylenchus. All nematodegenera except Aphelenchus, Helicotylenchus, Meloidogyne and Tylenchorhynchushave been reported for the first time on garlic in Yemen. The most prevalent plantnematode genera associated with garlic cultivars in all surveyed districts wereAphelenchus, Ditylenchus, Pratylenchus, Tylenchorhynchus and Tylenchus. Thelargest number of nematode genera was recorded in Sana'a governorate (19genera) compared to Ibb (14 genera) and Hadramout (12 genera). Antarctenchus,Hoplolaimus, Microposthonia, Nothanguina, Scutellonema and Zygotylenchusgenera were only found in Sana'a governorate, while Heterodera was recorded onlyin Ibb governorate. The most serious pests on garlic, stem and bulb nematode(Ditylenchus) exhibited the highest average population density of 4214nematodes/250gm soil with frequency of occurrence 49%. Therefore, effects ofnematode damage on growth, vigor and yield of garlic need further investigation.

Nematodes is one of the major biotic constraints affecting profitable yam production throughout Nigeria. They affect yams both in the field and in storage thus threatening food security and economic deprivation to growers and their households. The research work identified the types, frequency and population of nematodes associated with Dioscorea rotundata grown by the Farm Practical Year Programme Trainees of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta in four Community-based Farming Scheme locations, namely Isaga-Orile, Iwoye-Ketu, Ode-Lemo and Odogbolu in Ogun State. Soil samples were taken and assayed for nematode populations. Results showed that 26 Nematodes genera were found in the four locations ranging from 11 to 3201 individuals/250 g soil. Genera of plant-parasitic nematodes recovered included Scutellonema, Meloidogyne, Pratylenchus, Paratylenchulus, Trichodorus, Helicotylenchus, Hoplolaimus, Tylenchorhynchus, Aphelenchus, Xiphinema, Ditylenchus, Rotylenchulus, Rotylenchus and Aphelenchoides while the free-living nematode genera found included Aulolaimoides, Cephalobus, Cylindrocorpus, Lotonchus, Monhystera, Oncholaimus, Paraplectonema, Prismatolaimus, Dorylaimus, Tylencholaimellus, Tylencholaimus, and Tyleptus. Out of the twenty-six nematodes encountered, Meloidogyne spp. Scutellonema spp. and Pratylenchus spp. were mostly encountered in the soil and the only three recovered from the tubers which mean that these three nematodes are of economic importance to yam production. Farmers are therefore advised to go into yam production with management measure of nematodes putting the three key nematodes in mind, in order to avoid yield loss.Keywords: White guinea yam; Meloidogyne spp.; Scutellonema spp.; Pratylenchus spp.

Conventional tillage system practices for a long time can reduce soil qualities because of soil erosion, soil compaction and depleting of soil organic matter. Conservation tillage such as No-tillage system can be applied as an alternative technique to rehabilitate soil degradation problems.. This research is a part of a long term study of soil rehabilitation that was conducted from 2010 till now, in PT GMP, Central Lampung. Sampling of nematodes was done on April 2013 when the second ratoon RGM 00-838 variety of sugarcane was 9 months old. The aim of this research was to study the effect of tillage and mulching systems on the abundance of several dominant plant parasitic nematodes. Split plot experimental design was applied on this research. Tillage system as the main plots consisted of intensive tillage and no- tillage systems, while mulching system as the sub-plots consisted of no-mulch and mulching with 80 ton ha -1 of fresh bagasee. Nematodes were collected from 0-20 cm deep of soil and extracted by sieving and centrifugation with sugar solution methods at the Plant Pest and Disease Laboratory, University of Lampung. The results of this research showed that there were eleven plant parasitic and seven free-living nematode genera inhabited the PT GMP sugarcane plantation. The three plant parasitic nematode genera dominant were Hoplolaimus, Xiphinema, and Hemicriconemoides. No-tillage system effectively reduce the abundance of Xiphinema and , mulching with bagasse reduced the abundance of Hemicriconemoides. Meanwhile, mulching on No-tillage system more effective to reducing the abundance of Hoplolaimus compared to intensive tillage system. This results suggested that the No-tillage with bagasse mulching system was one of alternative techniques to control plant parasitic nematodes pest of sugarcane plantation. In a survey study, 21 phytonematode genera, Aphelenchoides, Criconemoides, Brachydorus, Criconema, Ditylenchus, Helicotylenchus, Hemicriconemoides, Hemicycliophora, Heterodera, Hoplolaimus, Longidorus, Meloidogyne, Paratylenchus, Pratylenchus, Rotylenchulus, Scutellonema, Tetylenchus, Tylenchorhyncus, Tylenchulus, Tylenchus and Xiphinema were found infesting rhizosphere of ornamental plantations in 5 Egyptian governorates. As the soil lighten, the nematode genera thrive, populate and diverse. Helicotylenchus, Hoplolaimus and Paratylenchus were recorded in high abundance and density in peat samples. The surveyed perennials were poor in their infestation. Helicotylenchus, Rotylenchulus, Tylenchorhynchus and Tetylenchus were in common association with the ornamental trees (Italian cypress, Ficus and Flamboyant). Nematode genera abundance and density were variable in shrubs. Paspalum samples infested with 15 out of the recorded 21 genera. Dynamics of Criconemoides, Helicotylenchus, Hoplolaimus and Rotylenchulus on four shrubs (Schefflera, Windoleaf, Dodonea, Lantana) grow in clay loam soil indicate that nematodes achieved high and low seasonal patterns depending on soil temperature, host plant, nematode species and nature of nematode parasitism.

Sugarcane is the main industrial crop in Kitadaito Island (Okinawa), Japan, and the objective of this study was to estimate potential damage to sugarcane by plant-parasitic nematodes (PPN). We selected 15 sugarcane fields with the same cultivar and cropping type in Kitadaito Island. Various kinds of PPN were found in all the fields and the proportion of PPN to the total nematode number was ca 50%, which is relatively high compared to other Japanese upland fields. Lesion (Pratylenchus sp.), stunt (Tylenchorhynchus sp.) and spiral (Helicotylenchus sp.) nematodes were detected at mean densities of 48, 22 and 6 (20 g soil)−1, respectively, from all the fields, and lance (Hoplolaimus sp.) and ring nematodes from half of the fields. The results suggested that sugarcane fields in Kitadaito Island were ubiquitously infested with a variety of PPN with a relatively high abundance. One of the fields was studied further to examine the potential relationship between PPN and sugarcane plant growth. Since no nematicide is registered for sugarcane fields in Japan, an appropriate agrochemical was selected by testing its efficacy against PPN before evaluating the relationship between a PPN community and sugarcane growth. The results of a 10-week pot experiment for sugarcane growth showed that the number of PPN decreased by applying a nematicide fosthiazate, and that sugarcane seedling biomass was significantly greater by 34-63% in soils with applied nematicide than in non-applied control soils, suggesting that PPN may suppress sugarcane growth in Kitadaito Island.

A survey was conducted to determine the nematodes associated with the soil, substratum and roots of the ornamental plant, Pseuderanthemum atropurpureum, grown in the Aligarh district of western Uttar Pradesh, India. Ten genera of plant parasitic nematodes, viz. Meloidogyne spp., Helicotylenchus sp., Hemicriconemoides sp., Hoplolaimus sp., Xiphinema sp., Pratylenchus sp., Trichodorus sp., Tylenchorhynchus sp., Aphelenchoides sp. and Rotylenchus sp., were isolated from 345 soil samples collected from 15 different localities. Our study indicates that among the 10 genera of the plant parasitic nematodes, Meloidogyne spp. was widely spread in all the examined localities of Aligarh district, except at Khair. It was observed that the population density and diversity of nematodes in all the soil samples was not uniform. Meloidogyne spp. showed the highest absolute frequency and relative frequency followed by Helicotylenchus sp., Hemicriconemoides sp., Xiphinema sp., Hoplolaimus sp., Pratylenchus sp., Trichodorus ...

The potential phytosanitary importance of all named plant-parasitic nematode species was determined by evaluating available information on species characteristics, association with economically-important crop hosts, and ability to act as vectors of viruses or form disease complexes with other pathogens. Most named species of plant-parasitic nematodes (PPN) are poorly known, recorded from a single location only, not associated with economically-important crops, and not known to be associated with other plant disease organisms. However, 250 species from 43 genera fulfilled one or more of the criteria to be considered to present a phytosanitary risk. The nematode Rotylenchus paravitis n. sp. infesting roots of commercial sunflowers in southern Spain is described. The new species is characterised by a truncate lip region with 7–9 annuli and continuous with the body contour, lateral fields areolated at pharyngeal region only, body without longitudinal striations, stylet length of 44–50 μm, vulva position at 43–54%, tail rounded to hemispherical with 12–18 annuli. A comparative phenetic study based on a multivariate principal component analysis was developed to determine potential species discrimination. The degree of variation for most characters among specimens of Rotylenchus paravitis n. sp. and R. vitis was comparable to that observed among specimens belonging to each of the two studied populations of R. robustus from Spain and USA. Molecular comparison of the partial 18S, D2-D3 expansion segments of 28S-rRNA, ITS1-rRNA, partial COI and hsp90 from R. paravitis n. sp. and R. vitis , and other species in the genus, clearly supports the proposal of R. paravitis n. sp. as a new species. Consequently, R. paravitis n. sp. should be considered as an example of cryptic speciation within the genus Rotylenchus . PCR-ITS-RFLP was provided for diagnostics of R. paravitis n. sp. and PCR with specific primers were also developed for diagnostics of this new species, R. vitis and R. robustus . The results of the phylogenetic analysis based on the sequences of the D2-D3 expansion regions of the 28S, ITS1-rRNA genes, and the partial COI , have proven to be a powerful tool for providing accurate species identification and assessing phylogenetic relationships within the genus Rotylenchus . Phylogenetic testing of D2-D3 expansion segments of 28S-rRNA gene sequences did not refute the monophyly of the genera Rotylenchus , Helicotylenchus , Hoplolaimus , based on tree topologies and the Shimodaira–Hasegawa test even with the split in several clades for some of the genera.

Banana planting materials, healthy and diseased, are constantly moved between farms, villages, and ecological zones, and across political borders within Africa. Knowledge of the geographical distribution of pests and diseases is important for the implementation and strengthening of quarantine and other phytosanitary measures to prevent further within-country or trans-border spread. This review examines some of these issues. Within sub-Saharan Africa, key indigenous plant-parasitic nematodes attacking banana and plantain are Helicotylenchus multicinctus, Hoplolaimus pararobustus, and various species of Meloidogyne (root-knot nematodes) and Pratylenchus (lesion nematodes). Xanthomonas wilt of banana and enset (caused by Xanthomonas campestris pv. musacearum), an indigenous African disease, originated in Ethiopia and since 2001, has steadily spread across East and Central Africa but has so far not been found outside the African continent.

The seasonal fluctuations of nematodes associated with the rhizosphere of both banana cvs. Williams and Hindi throughout one year indicated a fairly negative correlation between the prevailing soil temperatures and the population densities of Criconemoides spp., Helicotylenchus exallus, Hoplolaimus spp. and Meloidogyne incognita.

Thirteen genera (Aphelenchoides, Criconemella, Ditylenchus, Globodera, Helicotylenchus, Hoplolaimus, Meloidogyne, Longidorus, Paratrichodorus, Pratylenchus, Trichodorus, Tylenchus and Xiphinema) of plant-parasitic nematodes were found associated with 15 semi-temperate vegetable crops in Benguet Province, Philippines. Among these taxa, Helicotylenchus, Meloidogyne and Pratylenchus were the most predominant. Four taxa that can vector plant viruses were also found: Trichodorus, Paratrichodorus, Longidorus and Xiphinema. The taxa Paratrichodorus, Longidorus and Xiphinema have not been reported previously on semi-temperate vegetable crops in the Philippines. The most predominant nematode species were H. dihystera, P. penetrans and Meloidogyne spp. These nematodes were found abundantly in five out of the nine municipalities surveyed: Atok, Bakun, Buguias, Kibungan and Mankayan. Observation of the effects of some banana cultivars/types on the nematode fauna, showed that the cooking banana typeMusa(ABB) cv. Kanchakala andMusa(BBB) cv. Seed Banana supported a huge population ofM. incognitawhich induced severe root galling symptoms. The lesion nematode,P. coffeaewas found infesting all the cultivars/types. It maintained high population densities in the rhizosphere ofMusa(AA) cv. Matti andMusa(ABB) cvs. Kanchkala, Krishna Kanthali whereas the Seed Banana cultivar had a suppressive effect onP. coffeae.The rhizosphere of banana cultivar, Matti exhibited a high population ofH. multicinctus, R. reniformispopulation was recorded in extremely high levels in the rhizosphere of all cultivars/types. Free-living nematodes including rhabditids, dorylaimids, mononchids, were found in abundance in the banana rhizosphere.

Protected cultivation of horticultural crops under controlled environmental conditions has gained popularity among farmers due to high productivity, better quality of produce and manifold increase in yield per unit area. A survey was conducted in various vegetable crops (capsicum, bottlegourd, spongegourd and tomato) grown in the protected conditions in Delhi/NCR region. Six soil and root samples from these vegetable crops were collected from polyhouses located in Faridabad and Gurgaon, Districts of Haryana. The extraction of nematodes was done by Cobb sieving and Decanting Technique. Soil samples of spongegourd from Palrada locality of Faridabad had the highest population (850 J2/200 cm3 soil) of root-knot nematode (RKN) Meloidogyne incognita. Similarly, in capsicum, bottlegourd and tomato crops from Banwari locality of Gurgaon, maximum RKN population (129 J2/200 cm3 soil) was recorded. Community analysis besides RKN, revealed other ectoparasitic nematodes viz. Tylenchorhynchus spp., Pratylenchus spp., Hoplolaimus spp. and semi-endoparasitic nematode Rotylenchulus reniformis. Out of these nematodes the highest frequency of occurrence was recorded in M. incognita (100), Tylenchorhynchus spp. (100), R. reniformis (86.7) on cucurbits and Meloidogyne and Xiphinema spp. has 50.0 in capsicum.

Characteristic of Nematodes Community at PGS Golf Course Bandar Lampung. Golf course is a unique ecosystem where plant parasitic nematodes inhabit and become important pest because they reduce the quality of the grass. The pest problems on golf course can be indicated by its characteristics of nematode community. Survey on nematodes community at PGS Golf Course Bandar Lampung was conducted from March to December 2004. The objective was to study the characteristics of nematode community in the part of golf courses hole (green, collar, apron, and fairway). Soil samples were taken from five holes each of it consists of green, collar, apron, and fairway, respectiveley. Nematodes extraction was done in Laboratory of Arthropod Pest, Department of Plant Protection University of Lampung. The result showed that at least 50 nematodes genera of 28 families inhabit PGS. The number of plant parasitic nematode genera was higher than the free-living one. The characteristic of nematodes community on green and collar was different than on faiway. Nematode abundance and diversity on green and collar were higher than on fairway. Based on abundance of nematode feeding group, maturity index of free-living nematodes (MI) and that of plant parasitic nematodes (PPI), green and collar part seemed to be more favorable to plant parasitic nematodes than free-living nematodes. The contrary happened for fairway. Four most dominant genera of plant parasitic nematodes on PGS golf course were Helicotylenchus, Hoplolaimus, Criconemella, and Xiphinema.

Survey on plant and soil nematodes associated with rhizosphere of guava (Psidium guajava L.) from Baruipur, 24-Paraganas(south) and Mondouri (Haringhata) and Ghoragachha (Chakdaha), Nadia, West Bengal, India revealed the occurrence of ten genera, viz. Meloidogyne, Pratylenchus, Hoplolaimus, Rotylenchulus, Helicotylenchus, Tylenchorhynchus, Criconemoides, Xiphinema, Longidorus and Aphelenchus. Altogether thirteen species of eight plant parasitic genera identified which were Meloidogyne incognita, M. javanica, M. graminicola, Pratylenchus coffeae, P. brachyurus, Hoplolaimus indicus, Rotylenchulus reniformis, Helicotylenchus goodi, H. indicus, H. abunamai, Tylenchorhynchus mashhoodi, T. nudus and Aphelenchus avenae. The estimation of population density from rhizospheric soil indicated more number of R. reniformis (1052/200cm 3 soil) and Helicotylenchus (233/200cm 3 soil). Community analyses of plant and soil nematodes from the guava rhizosphere further revealed that R. reniformis ranked first in prominence followed by Helicotylenchus and Tylenchorhynchus. Among the less prominent plant parasitic species present as in guava rhizosphere, Pratylenchus, Meloidogyne, R. reniformis, Xiphinema and Longidorus were the potential pathogens to cause decline of yield either alone or in association with soil pathogens. Some ectoparasitic nematodes genera were also prominent members of soil nematode community but less important as plant pathogens. Among sapropzoic nematodes, rhabditids, dorylaimids and diplogasterids are the most prominent members of soil nematode community diversity and primarily play significant role in ecosystem processes of soil for making availability of plant nutrients.

The genus Hoplolaimus Daday, 1905 belongs to the subfamily Hoplolaimine Filipiev, 1934 of family Hoplolaimidae Filipiev, 1934 (Krall 1990). Daday established this genus on a single female of H. tylenchiformis recovered from a mud hole on Banco Island, Paraguay in 1905 (Sher 1963, Krall 1990). Hoplolaimus species are distributed worldwide and cause damage on numerous agricultural crops (Luc et al. 1990 Robbins et al. 1998). In 1992, Handoo and Golden reviewed 29 valid species of genus Hoplolaimus Dayday, 1905 (Handoo and Golden 1992). Siddiqi (2000) recognised three subgenera in Hoplolaimus: Hoplolaimus (Hoplolaimus) with ten species, is characterized by lateral field distinct, with four incisures, excretory pore behind hemizonid; Hoplolaimus (Basirolaimus) with 18 species, is characterized by lateral field with one to three incisures, obliterated, excretory pore anterior to hemizonid, dorsal oesophageal gland quadrinucleate; and Hoplolaimus (Ethiolaimus) with four species is characterized by lateral field with one to three incisures, obliterated; excretory pore anterior to hemizonid, dorsal oesophageal gland uninucleate (Siddiqi 2000). Since then, Hoplolaimus puriensis Ali, Shaheen & Pervez, 2009 has been described (Ali et al. 2009). Up to now, there have been two species of genus Hoplolaimus reported in Vietnam, viz H. seinhorsti and H. chambus (Nguyen and Nguyen 2000). Hoplolaimus bachlongviensis sp. n. was isolated from banana soil in Bach Long Vi Island, Vietnam. The female of this species is described and illustrated below. Some diagnostic characters of this species include body slightly curved ventrally, offset lip region exhibiting three to four annules, lateral field reduced, pharyngeal glands with six nuclei, excretory pore anterior to hemizonid, epiptygma absent, intestine not overlapping rectum and male was not found.
