Abstract Human papillomavirus (HPV)‐related cervical and nasopharyngeal cancers differ in molecular mechanisms underlying the oncogenic processes. The disparity may be attributed to differential expression of oncoproteins. The current study investigated the host oncogenes expression pattern in HPV‐associated cervical and nasopharyngeal cancer. Formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded tissues originating from the nasopharyngeal and cervical regions were screened using Hematoxylin and Eosin staining. Corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) signaling in the hippocampus has been established to be important for mediating the effects of stress on learning and memory. Given our laboratory's recent characterization of a subset of hippocampal CRH neurons as a novel class of GABAergic interneurons, we hypothesized that these local GABAergic hippocampal CRH neurons may influence hippocampal function. Here we applied an array of molecular tools to selectively label and manipulate hippocampal CRH neurons in mice, in order to assess this interneuron population's impact on hippocampus-dependent behaviors and hippocampal network excitability. Genetically-targeted ablation of hippocampal CRH neurons in vivo impaired object recognition memory and substantially enhanced the severity of kainic acid-induced seizures. Conversely, selective activation of CRH neurons in vitro suppressed the excitability of the mossy fiber-CA3 pathway. Additional experiments are needed to reconcile the functions of GABA and CRH signaling of hippocampal CRH neurons on hippocampal function. However, our results indicate that this interneuron population plays an important role in maintaining adaptive network excitability, and provide a specific circuit-level mechanism for this role.

Synectic Aperture Radar (SAR) backscatter coefficient is sensitive to glacier surface physical characteristic changes, including the states of melting and refreezing, but it is also sensitive to incidence angle variation. This study explores the capability of monitoring Greenland Ice Sheet (GrIS) melting status with Sentinel-1 dual-polarized images by referring to Automatic Weather Station (AWS) records. Sentinel-1 SAR images at five coastal regions of the GrIS are obtained from 2017 to 2021. The backscatter coefficients are normalized to an incidence angle of 30° with an empirical model. Time series of five backscatter coefficients profiles covering AWS illustrates different patterns of the ice surface dielectric constant dynamics in different elevations. The wet snow radar zone shows clear backscatter coefficients decreasing during the melting seasons, but the bare ice radar zone behaves more complexly during the melting seasons. The numbers of melting days at different elevations are also derived for each profile based on −3 dB backscatter coefficient decrease of HH and/or HV polarization, showing the heterogeneous ablation processes over the GrIS. The daily maximum 2 m air temperature on two consecutive days (before and on the SAR acquisition day) exceeds 0°C, and the daily average 2 m air temperature exceeds −0.5°C on the SAR acquisition day that was recorded by the AWS finds good agreements with the −3 dB decrease of the backscatter coefficients, suggesting the GrIS surface melting can be well captured by dual-polarized Sentinel-1 C-band SAR images. The overall agreement and Kappa coefficients are mostly better than 0.85 and 0.70, respectively, for HH images and 0.80 and 0.60, respectively, for HV images, suggesting a better performance of the co-polarized image. High temporal resolution and wide-swath SAR sequence imagery provide suitable data sources for monitoring glacier surface melting-refreezing stats; further analysis is requested to quantitatively link the volume of melting with backscatter coefficient and other SAR data sources. The grounding line position of glaciers and ice shelves is an essential observation for the study of the Earth's ice sheets. However, in some locations, such as the Antarctic Peninsula, where many grounding lines have not been mapped since the 1990s, remote sensing of grounding line position remains challenging. Here we present a tidal motion offset correlation (TMOC) method for measuring the grounding line position of tidewater glaciers and ice shelves, based on the correlation between tide amplitude and synthetic aperture radar offset tracking measurements. We apply this method to the Antarctic Peninsula Ice Sheet to automatically delineate a new grounding line position for 2019–2020, with near complete coverage along 9,300 km of coastline, updating the 20-year-old record. A comparison of the TMOC grounding line to contemporaneous interferometrically-measured grounding line position shows the method has a mean seaward offset compared to interferometry of 185 m and a standard deviation of 295 m. Our results show that over the last 24 years there has been grounding line retreat at a number of fast flowing ice streams on the Antarctic Peninsula, with the most retreat concentrated in the north-eastern sector, where grounding lines have retreated following the collapse of ice shelves. We observe a maximum grounding line retreat since 1996 of 16.3 km on Hektoria Glacier, with other notable glaciers retreating by 9.3 km, 9.1 km, and 3.6 km respectively. Our results document dynamic change on Antarctic Peninsula glaciers and show the importance of using an updated grounding line location to delineate the boundary between floating and grounded ice. Objectives: To examine the severity of coronary artery disease (CAD) in people from rural or remote Western Australia referred for invasive coronary angiography (ICA) in Perth and their subsequent management; to estimate the cost savings were computed tomography coronary angiography (CTCA) offered in rural centres as a first line investigation for people with suspected CAD. Design: Retrospective cohort study. Setting, participants: Adults with stable symptoms in rural and remote WA referred to Perth public tertiary hospitals for ICA evaluation during the 2019 calendar year. Main outcome measures: Severity and management of CAD (medical management or revascularisation); health care costs by care model (standard care or a proposed alternative model with local CTCA assessment). Results: The mean age of the 1017 people from rural and remote WA who underwent ICA in Perth was 62 years (standard deviation, 13 years); 680 were men (66.9%), 245 were Indigenous people (24.1%). Indications for referral were non‐ST elevation myocardial infarction (438, 43.1%), chest pain with normal troponin level (394, 38.7%), and other (185, 18.2%). After ICA assessment, 619 people were medically managed (60.9%) and 398 underwent revascularisation (39.1%). None of the 365 patients (35.9%) without obstructed coronaries (< 50% stenosis) underwent revascularisation; nine patients with moderate CAD (50–69% stenosis; 7%) and 389 with severe CAD (≥ 70% stenosis or occluded vessel; 75.5%) underwent revascularisation. Were CTCA used locally to determine the need for referral, 527 referrals could have been averted (53%), the ICA:revascularisation ratio would have improved from 2.6 to 1.6, and 1757 metropolitan hospital bed‐days (43% reduction) and $7.3 million in health care costs (36% reduction) would have been saved. Conclusion: Many rural and remote Western Australians transferred for ICA in Perth have non‐obstructive CAD and are medically managed. Providing CTCA as a first line investigation in rural centres could avert half of these transfers and be a cost‐effective strategy for risk stratification of people with suspected CAD. Drowning is a frequent cause of accidental deaths and injuries, resulting in a significant but preventable global health problem. It is characterized by respiratory impairment due to submersion of the airway, or immersion of the body including the airway, leading to global hypoxic injury. Risk factors for drowning include inadequate supervision of children, recreational or occupational access to water, risk-taking behaviour and underlying medical conditions. Management priorities include rescue and basic life support, with an emphasis on rescue breaths and reversal of hypoxia. Supportive critical care is directed towards optimizing oxygenation and circulation, and preventing complications. Temperature control is important, as hypothermia complicates drowning and may limit the efficacy of resuscitative attempts when severe. Survival rates after cardiac arrest due to drowning are poor, and patients who are unconscious on admission to hospital have a guarded prognosis.
