Abstract Background Cognitive impairment is a common health problem among older adults. Previous studies have proven the association between sleep quality and cognitive impairment, but the specific underlying mechanisms need to be further explored. This study aimed to examine the relationship between sleep quality and cognitive impairment and the mediating effect of frailty in this relationship among the rural older adults. Methods Data from a cross-sectional study conducted in rural areas of Shandong Province from September to December in 2023. A total of 695 rural older adults were included. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was used to measure sleep quality. Frailty was defined using the FRAIL scale. We assessed cognitive impairment using the Dementia Screening Interview (AD8). Logistic regression analyse was used to assess the relationship between sleep quality and cognitive impairment. And the Karlson-Holm-Breen (KHB) method was performed to test the mediating role of frailty in this relationship. Results After adjusting for all covariates, sleep quality was significantly associated with cognitive impairment (OR = 1.047, 95% CI: 1.005—1.090). Frailty mediated the relationship between sleep quality and cognitive impairment, with a mediation effect value of 0.010 (95% CI: 0.001—0.020), accounting for 17.86% of the total effect. Conclusions We found there was an association between sleep quality and cognitive impairment, and frailty mediated the above relationship. Comprehensive intervention measures should be taken to reduce the incidence of frailty in the older adults and to improve their sleep quality, thereby preventing and delaying the occurrence and development of cognitive impairment.

Abstract The pathogen Verticillium dahliae secreted effector V. dahliae Aspf2-like protein (VDAL) has been found to cause leaf wilting in cotton, but the ectopic expression of VDAL-encoding gene enhances the resistance to V. dahliae in cotton and Arabidopsis. The application of the VDAL protein powder with optimal dosage promotes the growth and yield in multiple crop species, such as rice and wheat. However, the promotive effects of VDAL on these aspects are sporadically reported in asexually propagated species, including potato, while the molecular regulatory network involved in the process remains unclear. In this study, we observed that VDAL promotes sprouting of the potato pre-basic seed (PBS) tubers and enhances the development of both above-ground and below-ground tissues. Strikingly, VDAL increases the tuber yield in both greenhouse and field trials by up to 18.97%. The time-course transcriptomic analysis and the endogenous phytohormone detection revealed that cytokinin may play an important role in response to VDAL-promoted growth. Interestingly, VDAL-treated PBS tubers show higher resistance to cold temperature (late-spring cold), a phenomenon that is diminished when the lovastatin, a cytokinin inhibitor is applied, indicating that the VDAL-promoted potato growth, particularly under low temperature, is associated with cytokinin.

Abstract Background Natural products have a long history in drug discovery. Lycorine is an alkaloid derived from Amaryllidaceae plants, demonstrating significant pharmacological potential. Lycorine and its hydrochloride salt, lycorine hydrochloride, have shown outstanding anticancer effects both in vitro and in vivo. Purpose This review aims to comprehensively summarize recent research advancements regarding the anticancer potential of lycorine and lycorine hydrochloride. It intends to elucidate current research limitations, optimization strategies, and future research directions to guide clinical translation. Methods Various databases, e.g., Web of Science, PubMed, and Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, are systematically searched for relevant articles using keywords such as lycorine, cancer, pharmacokinetics, and toxicity. The retrieved literature is then categorized and summarized to provide an overview of the research advancements in the anticancer potential of lycorine and lycorine hydrochloride. Results Lycorine and lycorine hydrochloride demonstrate significant anticancer activities against various types of cancer both in vitro and in vivo, employing diverse mechanisms such as inducing cell cycle arrest, triggering cellular senescence, regulating programmed cell death, inhibiting angiogenesis, suppressing metastasis, and modulating immune system. Furthermore, pharmacokinetic profiles and toxicity data are summarized. Additionally, this review discusses the druggability, limitations, optimization strategies, and target identification of lycorine, offering insights for future preclinical studies. Conclusion The anticancer effects and safety profile of lycorine and lycorine hydrochloride suggest promising potential for clinical applications. Further research on their in-depth mechanisms and optimization strategies targeting their limitations will enhance the understanding and druggability of lycorine and lycorine hydrochloride. BackgroundAccurate identification of pathologic grade before operation is helpful for guiding clinical treatment decisions and improving the prognosis for soft tissue sarcoma (STS).PurposeTo construct and assess a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based radiomics nomogram incorporating intratumoral habitats (subregions of clusters of voxels containing similar features) and peritumoral features for the preoperative prediction of the pathological grade of STS.MethodsThe MRI data of 145 patients with STS (74 low-grade and 71 high-grade) from 4 hospitals were retrospectively collected, including enhanced T1-weighted and fat-suppressed-T2-weighted sequences. The patients were divided into training cohort (n = 102) and validation cohort (n = 43). K-means clustering was used to divide intratumoral voxels into three habitats according to signal intensity. A number of radiomics features were extracted from tumor-related regions to construct radiomics prediction signatures for seven subgroups. Logistic regression analysis identified peritumoral edema as an independent risk factor. A nomogram was created by merging the best radiomics signature with the peritumoral edema. We evaluated the performance and clinical value of the model using area under the curve (AUC), calibration curves, and decision curve analysis.ResultsA multi-layer perceptron classifier model based on intratumoral habitats and peritumoral features combined gave the best radiomics signature, with an AUC of 0.856 for the validation cohort. The AUC of the nomogram in the validation cohort was 0.868, which was superior to the radiomics signature and the clinical model established by peritumoral edema. The calibration curves and decision curve analyses revealed good calibration and a high clinical application value for this nomogram.ConclusionThe MRI-based nomogram is accurate and effective for predicting preoperative grading in patients with STS.

We conducted a study to evaluate the potential and robustness of gradient boosting algorithms in rock burst assessment, established a variational autoencoder (VAE) to address the imbalance rock burst dataset, and proposed a multilevel explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) tailored for tree-based ensemble learning. We collected 537 data from real-world rock burst records and selected four critical features contributing to rock burst occurrences. Initially, we employed data visualization to gain insight into the data's structure and performed correlation analysis to explore the data distribution and feature relationships. Then, we set up a VAE model to generate samples for the minority class due to the imbalanced class distribution. In conjunction with the VAE, we compared and evaluated six state-of-the-art ensemble models, including gradient boosting algorithms and the classical logistic regression model, for rock burst prediction. The results indicated that gradient boosting algorithms outperformed the classical single models, and the VAE-classifier outperformed the original classifier, with the VAE-NGBoost model yielding the most favorable results. Compared to other resampling methods combined with NGBoost for imbalanced datasets, such as synthetic minority oversampling technique (SMOTE), SMOTE-edited nearest neighbours (SMOTE-ENN), and SMOTE-tomek links (SMOTE-Tomek), the VAE-NGBoost model yielded the best performance. Finally, we developed a multilevel XAI model using feature sensitivity analysis, Tree Shapley Additive exPlanations (Tree SHAP), and Anchor to provide an in-depth exploration of the decision-making mechanics of VAE-NGBoost, further enhancing the accountability of tree-based ensemble models in predicting rock burst occurrences.

Abstract Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) is a redox cofactor and signal central to cell metabolisms. Disrupting NAD homeostasis in plant alters growth and stress resistance, yet the underlying mechanisms remain largely unknown. Here, by combining genetics with multi-omics, we discover that NAD+ deficiency in qs-2 caused by mutation in NAD+ biosynthesis gene-Quinolinate Synthase retards growth but induces biosynthesis of defense compounds, notably aliphatic glucosinolates that confer insect resistance. The elevated defense in qs-2 is resulted from activated jasmonate biosynthesis, critically hydroperoxidation of α-linolenic acid by the 13-lipoxygenase (namely LOX2), which is escalated via the burst of chloroplastic ROS-singlet oxygen (1O2). The NAD+ deficiency-mediated JA induction and defense priming sequence in plants is recapitulated upon insect infestation, suggesting such defense mechanism operates in plant stress response. Hence, NAD homeostasis is a pivotal metabolic checkpoint that may be manipulated to navigate plant growth and defense metabolism for stress acclimation.

Abstract Network traffic anomaly detection, as an effective analysis method for network security, can identify differentiated traffic information and provide secure operation in complex and changing network environments. To avoid information loss caused when handling traffic data while improving the detection performance of traffic feature information, this paper proposes a multi-information fusion model based on a convolutional neural network and AutoEncoder. The model uses a convolutional neural network to extract features directly from the raw traffic data, and a AutoEncoder to encode the statistical features extracted from the raw traffic data, which are used to supplement the information loss due to cropping. These two features are combined to form a new integrated feature for network traffic, which has the load information from the original traffic data and the global information of the original traffic data obtained from the statistical features, thus providing a complete representation of the information contained in the network traffic and improving the detection performance of the model. The experiments show that the classification accuracy of network traffic anomaly detection using this model outperforms that of classical machine learning methods.

Abstract Background For acute type A aortic dissection involving the aortic root with root diameter no more than 45 mm, there are various aortic root repair techniques. In this study, a novel surgical technique using a pericardial autograft for aortic root repair was introduced. We described its surgical steps in detail and compare its clinical outcomes with direct suture technique. Methods Between July 2017 and August 2022, 95 patients with acute type A aortic dissection who underwent aortic root repair were enrolled, including aortic root repair using pericardial autograft (group A, n = 49) or direct suture (group B, n = 46). The patient’s clinical data were retrospectively analyzed, and a 5-year follow-up was conducted. Results The 30-day mortality, re-exploration for bleeding, postoperative new-onset renal failure requiring continuous renal replacement therapy, stroke, and paraplegia occurred in 3%, 4%, 11%, 5%, and 2% of the overall patients, respectively. There was no significant difference in the 30-day mortality and complication rate between the two groups. The 30-day mortality and re-exploration for bleeding marked the primary endpoint events. Logistic regression analysis indicated that there was a significant correlation between the primary endpoint events and surgical technique (odds ratio, 0.002; 95% confidence interval, 0-0.159; P = 0.026). Oxidative stress affects production performance and meat quality of poultry. 6-gingerol (6-Gin) is the main activity component of ginger, has shown promise in alleviating oxidative stress in broilers, However, the specific protection mechanism of 6-Gin against hepatocytes oxidative damage remains unclear. The primary chicken embryo hepatocytes (CEHs) were damaged and the cell viability was decreased by H2O2, 6-Gin can alleviate the cell injure and oxidative stress. Transcriptomic analysis and further experiments showed that H2O2 significantly suppressed the expression of Nrf2, Keap1, and NQO1, as well as antioxidant enzyme activities, increased inflammatory factors, leading to cell apoptosis. In contrast, 6-Gin effectively reduced these effects by promoting Nrf 2 nuclear translocation and activating the Nrf2 signaling pathway. Furthermore, the protective effects of 6-Gin were eliminated by the Nrf2 inhibitor ML385. In conclusion, 6-Gin exerts antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effects on CEHs through the Nrf2 pathway. This study provides the potential value of 6-Gin for treatment of oxidative stress in broilers.

Endoscopic retrograde appendicitis therapy (ERAT) is a novel and minimally invasive technological alternative for the management of acute or chronic appendicitis. Through endoscopic appendiceal intubation, obstructions such as appendiceal feces and parasites within the appendiceal lumen can be effectively eliminated, leading to patient recovery. Additionally, in cases where the orifices are swollen or complicated appendicitis is present, a stent may be inserted following appendiceal flushing. Due to the utilization of endoscopy for accessing the orifices of the appendix in order to alleviate appendiceal obstruction, patients were able to avoid undergoing appendectomy and experienced a reduced likelihood of recurrence when compared to antibiotic therapy. Additionally, the ERAT provided alternative options for individuals with appendicitis and comorbidities. Recent advancements in techniques, such as the “mother–baby” endoscopic system and the use of microbubble contrast agents, have expanded the range of indications and the eligible patient populations. The objective of this review is to present a comprehensive overview of the development, procedural aspects, therapeutic principles, treatment efficacy, therapeutic applications, and potential complications associated with ERAT.

Abstract Background To develop a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based radiomics signature for evaluating the risk of soft tissue sarcoma (STS) disease progression. Methods We retrospectively enrolled 335 patients with STS (training, validation, and The Cancer Imaging Archive sets, n = 168, n = 123, and n = 44, respectively) who underwent surgical resection. Regions of interest were manually delineated using two MRI sequences. Among 12 machine learning-predicted signatures, the best signature was selected, and its prediction score was inputted into Cox regression analysis to build the radiomics signature. A nomogram was created by combining the radiomics signature with a clinical model constructed using MRI and clinical features. Progression-free survival was analyzed in all patients. We assessed performance and clinical utility of the models with reference to the time-dependent receiver operating characteristic curve, area under the curve, concordance index, integrated Brier score, decision curve analysis. Results For the combined features subset, the minimum redundancy maximum relevance-least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression algorithm + decision tree classifier had the best prediction performance. The radiomics signature based on the optimal machine learning-predicted signature, and built using Cox regression analysis, had greater prognostic capability and lower error than the nomogram and clinical model (concordance index, 0.758 and 0.812; area under the curve, 0.724 and 0.757; integrated Brier score, 0.080 and 0.143, in the validation and The Cancer Imaging Archive sets, respectively). The optimal cutoff was − 0.03 and cumulative risk rates were calculated. Data conclusion To assess the risk of STS progression, the radiomics signature may have better prognostic power than a nomogram/clinical model.

Abstract Coding transcript-derived siRNAs (ct-siRNAs) produced from specific endogenous loci can suppress the translation of their source genes to balance plant growth and stress response. In this study, we generated Arabidopsis mutants with deficiencies in RNA decay and/or post-transcriptional gene silencing (PTGS) pathways and performed comparative sRNA-seq analysis, revealing that multiple RNA decay and PTGS factors impede the ct-siRNA selective production. Genes that produce ct-siRNAs often show increased or unchanged expression and typically have higher GC content in sequence composition. The growth and development of plants can perturb the dynamic accumulation of ct-siRNAs from different gene loci. Two nitrate reductase genes, NIA1 and NIA2, produce massive amounts of 22-nt ct-siRNAs and are highly expressed in a subtype of mesophyll cells where DCL2 exhibits higher expression relative to DCL4, suggesting a potential role of cell-specific expression of ct-siRNAs. Overall, our findings unveil the multifaceted factors and features involved in the selective production and regulation of ct-siRNAs and enrich our understanding of gene silencing process in plants.

The folding wing deployment mechanisms of aircraft are constrained by weight and space limitations, necessitating fewer actuators, multiple outputs, compact designs, and high efficiency. However, existing folding wing mechanisms often overlook the impact of performance in configuration design. Additionally, they struggle to achieve the synchronous unfolding of multiple wings using a single drive. This paper presents a design methodology for multi-wing deployment mechanisms based on configuration topology and multiple performance indicators. Specifically, seventeen configurations of multi-wing deployment mechanisms are developed based on functional requirements, along with expression methods for performance indicators, including compactness, mechanism stiffness, dynamic sensitivity, motion transmission, and joint transmission efficiency. The optimal configuration for the multi-wing deployment mechanism is identified utilizing the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation. Moreover, the transmission efficiency of multiple configurations is calculated across different scale parameters. Simulation analyses and prototype experiments are conducted to validate the design. The results indicate that the transmission efficiency of the optimized configuration consistently exceeds that of the other configurations. Maximum efficiencies surpass those of the other configurations by 2.4% and 5.7%. Importantly, this study introduces a quantitative expression method for multiple performance indicators at the configuration design stage. This approach enables the integration of various performance metrics with configuration designs. Overall, this research provides a novel approach for the innovative design of multi-wing deployment mechanisms in aircraft. Additionally, considering performance in the selection of mechanism configurations during engineering design offers valuable insights and potential applications.

Direct preparation of silver nanoclusters is of great significance for their applications. In this work, by selecting sodium cyanoborohydride as a weak reducing agent to control the kinetics of the reduction reaction, we successfully prepared silver nanoclusters protected by thiol-containing ligands, including mercaptosuccinic acid, cysteine, and glutathione. Based on the silver nanoclusters protected by mercaptosuccinic acid, silver–gold alloy nanoclusters were obtained through a gold doping reaction. Spectroscopic and particle size analyses showed that the silver–gold alloy nanoclusters exhibited aggregation-induced emission enhancement (AIEE) properties. A fluorescent probe for aluminum ions was developed based on the silver–gold alloy nanoclusters. In the presence of methionine and mercaptoacetic acid, the probe demonstrated good selectivity for aluminum ion detection. The linear range of this detection method was 0 to 192 μM, with a detection limit of 1.6 μM. The working mechanism of this detection method was further investigated through spectroscopic analysis.

This study investigated the effects of compound probiotics (CP) on AFB1-induced cytotoxicity in Sertoli TM4 cells. The L9 (3 × 3) orthogonal test was conducted to determine the optimal CP required for high AFB1 degradation in the artificial gastrointestinal fluid in vitro. The maximal AFB1 degradation rate was 40.55 % (P < 0.05) when the final viable count was 1.0 × 105 CFU/mL for Bacillus subtilis, Lactobacillus casein, and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The effects of CP and the CP supernatant (CPS) on TM4 cell viability were evaluated to achieve the optimal protective conditions. When CPS4 (corresponding to CP viable counts of 1.0 × 104 CFU/mL) was added to the TM4 cells for 24 h, the cell viability reached 108.86 % (P < 0.05). AFB1 reduced TM4 cell viability in a concentration- and time-dependent manner at an AFB1 concentration ranging from 0 to 1.5 μM after 48-h AFB1 exposure. The optimal AFB1 concentration/times for low- and high damage models were 0.5 and 1.25 μM both for 24 h, which decreased viability to 76.04 % and 65.35 %, respectively. however, CPS4 added to low- and high-damage models increased the cell viability to 97.43 % and 75.12 %, respectively (P < 0.05). Transcriptome sequencing was performed based on the following designed groups: the control, 0.5 μM AFB1, 1.25 μM AFB1, CPS4, and CPS4+0.5 μM AFB1. The Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis was further performed to identify significantly enriched signaling pathways, which were subsequently verified. It was shown that AFB1 induced apoptosis by blocking the PI3K-AKT-mTOR pathway and upregulating autophagy proteins such as LC3B, Beclin1, and ATG5 while inhibiting autophagic flux. CPS4 promoted AFB1 degradation, activated the p62-NRF2 antioxidant, and inhibited ROS/TRPML1 pathways, thereby reducing ROS production and inflammation and ultimately alleviating AFB1-induced autophagy and apoptosis. These findings supports the potential of probiotics to protect the male reproductive system from toxin damage.

IntroductionCoronavirus disease 2019 occurred unexpectedly in late December 2019, it was difficult to immediately develop an effective vaccine or propose targeted medical interventions in the early stages of the outbreak. At this point, non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) are essential components of the public health response to COVID-19. How to combine different NPIs in the early stages of an outbreak to control the spread of epidemics and ensure that the policy combination does not incur high socio-economic costs became the focus of this study.MethodsWe mainly used the fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis to assess the impact of different combinations of NPIs on the effectiveness of control in the COVID-19 pandemic early stage, using open datasets containing case numbers, country populations and policy responses.ResultsWe showed that the configuration of high morbidity results includes one, which is the combination of non-strict face covering, social isolation and travel restrictions. The configuration of non-high morbidity results includes three, one is strict mask wearing measures, which alone constitute sufficient conditions for interpreting the results; the second is strict testing and contact tracing, social isolation; the third is strict testing and contact tracing, travel restriction. The results of the robustness test showed that the number, components and consistency of the configurations have not changed after changing the minimum case frequency, which proved that the analysis results are reliable.ConclusionIn the early stages of the epidemic, the causes of high morbidity are not symmetrical with the causes of non-high morbidity. Strict face covering is the most basic measure required to prevent and control epidemics, and the combination of non-strict face covering and containment is the most important factor leading to poor prevention and control, and the combination of strict containment and proactive pursuit is the way to achieve superior prevention and control, timely and proactive containment strategies have better prevention and control, and should mobilize the public to cooperate.

Xijiao Huojiu (Xijiao), an ancient Chinese rice wine (ACRW), is produced using traditional methods, which involve biological-ageing-like process and result in distinctive sensory profiles. However, its aroma composition is still unclear. In this study, the aroma characteristics of three samples with varying ageing times were examined. Xijiao_SCT, with a short cellar time, exhibited a strong fruity and floral aroma and a less grain-like aroma. Conversely, Xijiao_LCT, which had a long cellar time, had a deep cocoa- and caramel-like aroma. A total of 27 key odorants that greatly influenced the aroma characteristics of Xijiao were identified. Comparative studies were used to identify 12 key odorants that distinguish Xijiao from modern Chinese rice wine (MCRW) and grape wines (GW). Additionally, 13 dominant latent ageing markers differentiated Xijiao_SCT from Xijiao_LCT. Our results suggested that ACRW and MCRW have overlapping but distinct volatile metabolomic profiles, highlighting the characteristics of ACRW during ageing process.

Targeting specific molecular drivers of tumor growth is a key approach in cancer therapy. Among these targets, the low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 6 (LRP6), a vital component of the Wnt signaling pathway, has emerged as an intriguing candidate. As a cell-surface receptor and vital co-receptor, LRP6 is frequently overexpressed in various cancer types, implicating its pivotal role in driving tumor progression. The pursuit of LRP6 as a target for cancer treatment has gained substantial traction, offering a promising avenue for therapeutic intervention. Here, this comprehensive review explores recent breakthroughs in our understanding of LRP6's functions and underlying molecular mechanisms, providing a profound discussion of its involvement in cancer pathogenesis and drug resistance. Importantly, we go beyond discussing LRP6's role in cancer by discussing diverse potential therapeutic approaches targeting this enigmatic protein. These approaches encompass a wide spectrum, including pharmacological agents, natural compounds, non-coding RNAs, epigenetic factors, proteins, and peptides that modulate LRP6 expression or disrupt its interactions. In addition, also discussed the challenges associated with developing LRP6 inhibitors and their advantages over Wnt inhibitors, as well as the drugs that have entered phase II clinical trials. By shedding light on these innovative strategies, we aim to underscore LRP6’s significance as a valuable and multifaceted target for cancer treatment, igniting enthusiasm for further research and facilitating translation into clinical applications.

The planar coding distortion, which affects objective quality, and spherical distortion, which affects subjective quality, as well as existing independent rate-distortion optimization techniques that fail to consider the temporal propagation of spherical distortion and its impact on coding performance, result in coding performance degradation.To address these issues, a spatio-temporal dependent spherical distortion model was proposed for optimizing panoramic video coding.Firstly, a spatial mapping model was proposed to map spherical distortions to coding distortions, aiming to align subjective and objective quality assessments.Secondly, a temporal propagation model for spherical distortions was introduced to enhance the overall coding performance of all coding units in the propagation chain.Finally, the coding parameters were adjusted by computing the weights for spatial mapping and temporal propagation of spherical distortions.Experimental results demonstrate that, under low-delay encoding configurations, compared to the VTM14.0, a state-of-the-art video coding benchmark, the proposed algorithm achieves an average bitrate savings of 7.4% (up to 22.1%) and reduction in coding time of 9%.

Objective: To explore the molecular mechanism of Aidi injection in the treatment of prostate cancer (PCa). Materials and methods: CCK-8 and colony formation assays were used to detect the effects of Aidi on PC3 and DU145 cells; effects on the cell cycle and apoptosis of DU145 cells were detected by flow cytometry; effects on migration and invasion of PC3 and DU145 cells were detected by wound healing and transwell assay, respectively. The main active components of Aidi, their corresponding targets, and PCa associated pathways were predicted and analyzed by network pharmacology. Then predicted key targets and related signaling pathways were further verified by western blotting. The potential active components of Aidi were predicted by molecular docking technology. Results: Aidi significantly inhibited the proliferation, colony formation, migration, and invasion of PC3 and DU145 cells; Aidi induced apoptosis and cell cycle G2/M phase arrest of DU145 cells. Network pharmacology analysis yielded 36 potential core targets of Aidi against PCa, and the top 10 signaling pathways including MAPK, PI3K-Akt, and HIF-1α and so on were enriched. Western blotting confirmed that Aidi upregulated the expression levels of p-JNK, p-p38, p-ERK, and ERK in DU145 cells. Molecular docking study showed that kaempferol, (Z)-1-(2,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)prop-2-en-1-one, 7-O-methylisomucronulatol, calycosin, and N-salicylidene-salicylamine can be well binding with JNK and p38. Conclusion: Aidi could inhibit PCa cell proliferation and metastasis through induction of apoptosis and cell cycle arrest, which may be related to activating JNK and p38 signaling pathway.

Abstract Background To introduce a new and simple classification and management of coronary artery involvement in aortic dissection and report results. Methods Coronary artery involvement was classified into two types according to the integrity of coronary intima: simple lesion (type S) and complex lesion (type C). Complex lesions were treated by CABG and simple lesions were treated by ostial repair or reimplantation. Data were collected and analyzed retrospectively. Results From January 2010 to December 2019, 267 consecutive patients were enrolled in the study, and among them complex lesions occurred in 27 patients (11.1%) and simple lesions was found in 240 patients(89.9%). Eleven untreated vessels with simple lesion were found to be involved again in the same operation and treated by CABG. The two type groups had comparable operative mortality (type S vs. type C, 9.6% vs. 18.5%, P = 0.28). 221 patients received follow-up with a median duration of 52 months. The overall survival rates at 1, 5, and 10 years postoperatively were 88.9%, 85.7%, and 79.8% in type S group and 79.2%, 79.2%, and 79.2% in type C group, respectively (P = 0.47). For the patients who received CABG and survived at discharge, radiographic follow-up with a median duration of 28 (IQR 7-55.5) months showed the freedom from occlusion of vein graft at 1, 5, and 10 years postoperatively were 87.5%, 70.0%, 28.0%. Conclusions According to the new classification, two types of lesions could be treated by corresponding methods with satisfactory early and long-term results. Unrepaired coronary artery was at a risk of re-involvement. Vein graft onto arteries without atherosclerosis still had a high occlusion rate.

Ferroptosis has emerged as a potential mechanism for enhancing the efficacy of chemotherapy in cancer treatment. By suppressing nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), cancer cells may lose their ability to counteract the oxidative stress induced by chemotherapy, thereby becoming more susceptible to ferroptosis. In this study, we investigate the potential of penexanthone A (PXA), a xanthone dimer component derived from the endophytic fungus Diaporthe goulteri, obtained from mangrove plant Acanthus ilicifolius, to enhance the therapeutic effect of cisplatin (CDDP) on colorectal cancer (CRC) by inhibiting Nrf2. The present study reported that PXA significantly improved the ability of CDDP to inhibit the activity of and induce apoptosis in CRC cells. Moreover, PXA was found to increase the level of oxidative stress and DNA damage caused by CDDP. In addition, the overexpression of Nrf2 reversed the DNA damage and ferroptosis induced by the combination of PXA and CDDP. In vivo experiments using zebrafish xenograft models demonstrated that PXA enhanced the therapeutic effect of CDDP on CRC. These studies suggest that PXA enhanced the sensitivity of CRC to CDDP and induce ferroptosis by targeting Nrf2 inhibition, indicating that PXA might serve as a novel anticancer drug in combination chemotherapy.

Spaceborne deployable cylindrical antennas have broad application prospects in the fields of space earth observation and remote-sensing detection because of their significant advantages of ultralong aperture, high gain, and flexible beam scanning. As application requirements rapidly develop, a new type of spaceborne deployable cylindrical antenna mechanism with a large diameter and deployability is urgently needed. This paper presents an innovative design for a cylindrical deployable antenna mechanism based on 18R triangular prism elements based on graph theory. The correctness of the configuration is verified by developing a prototype. First, four kinds of nonoverconstrained 12-bar triangular prism-stabilized truss structure configurations and their corresponding topological diagrams are constructed. Second, based on graph theory, three types of 102 triangular prism-stabilized truss mechanism configurations that can be folded into linear mechanisms are derived. Third, the kinematic pair configuration is established to achieve a single-degree-of-freedom 7R2U9S triangular prism deployable unit. Fourth, combined with the geometric topology characteristics of the unit network, a triangular prism unit networking method is proposed, and a cylindrical network mechanism configuration based on 18R triangular prism units is obtained. A prototype was fabricated by 3D printing, and an expansion and retraction function test was conducted, which verified the correctness of the theoretical analysis in this paper. Finally, a new concept configuration for a parabolic cylindrical antenna is proposed. This paper provides a reference for the configuration of large-scale folding truss structures with unit expansion.

Abstract Solar arrays are the primary energy source for spacecraft. Although traditional rigid solar arrays improve power supply, the quality increases proportionally. Hence, it is difficult to satisfy the requirements of high-power and low-cost space applications. In this study, a shape-memory polymer composite (SMPC) boom was designed, fabricated, and characterized for flexible reel-type solar arrays. The SMPC boom was fabricated from a smart material, a shape-memory polymer composite, whose mechanical properties were tested. Additionally, a mathematical model of the bending stiffness of the SMPC boom was developed, and the bending and buckling behaviors of the boom were further analyzed using the ABAQUS software. An SMPC boom was fabricated to demonstrate its shape memory characteristics, and the driving force of the booms with varying geometric parameters was investigated. We also designed and manufactured a reel-type solar array based on an SMPC boom and verified its self-deployment capability. The results indicated that the SMPC boom can be used as a deployable unit to roll out flexible solar arrays.

Abstract. Background:. Primary cardiac lipoma is very rare, and no consensus has been developed regarding its ideal treatment strategy. This study reviewed the surgical treatment of cardiac lipomas in 20 patients over 20 years. Methods:. Twenty patients with cardiac lipomas were treated at Fuwai Hospital, National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College from January 1, 2002, to January 1, 2022. The patients’ clinical data and pathological reports were retrospectively analyzed, and the follow-up with a range of 1 year to 20 years was conducted. Results:. The cardiac lipomas were located in the right atrium (RA) or superior vena cava (SVC) in seven patients (35%) (RA in six patients and SVC in one patient), left ventricle in eight patients (40%) (left ventricular chamber in four patients and left ventricular subepicardium and myocardium in four patients), right ventricle in three patients (15%) (right ventricular chamber in one patient and right ventricular subepicardial layer and myocardium in two patients), subepicardial interventricular groove in one patient (5%), and pericardium in one patient (5%). Complete resection was achieved in 14 patients (70%), including seven patients with lipomas in the RA or SVC. Incomplete resection occurred in six patients (30%) with lipomas in the ventricles. No perioperative deaths occurred. Long-term follow-up was conducted for 19 patients (95%), including two (10%) who died. Both patients who died had lipomas incompletely resected due to ventricles involvement, and preoperative malignant arrhythmias persisted post-operatively. Conclusions:. The complete resection rate was high, and the long-term prognosis was satisfactory in patients with cardiac lipomas that did not involve the ventricle. The complete resection rate was low in patients with cardiac lipomas in ventricles; and complications, including malignant arrhythmia, were common. Failure of complete resection and post-operative ventricular arrhythmia are correlated with post-operative mortality.

This work presents an in-situ readout of the transient photoresponse of a graphene-oxide-semiconductor heterostructure by utilizing graphene’s field-effect coupling with the silicon photogate. The reported device which acts as a graphene charge-coupled device (GCCD) pixel is set into pre-avalanche condition by dynamic sinusoidal biasing and then exposed with pulsed illumination. The initial photo-ionized charge packet experiences pre-integration carrier multiplication, boosting the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) before interacting with the surface traps and defects. The maximum multiplication factor of $\mathrm {\sim }8.5$ and responsivity of $\mathrm {350 A/W}$ are achieved. Arrhenius plots show the viability of operating the device at room temperature as thermal charge contribution is negligible. Moreover, a detailed discussion on reduced power consumption for such a sinusoidal charge-coupled device (CCD) drive concept is also incorporated. The presented technique paves the way for futuristic sinusoidally-driven graphene-silicon-based electron-multiplying CCDs with low-power surveillance and adaptive optics applications.

Vehicle trajectory prediction is crucial for the safe driving of the intelligent and connected vehicle, but the existing researches suffer from inadequate interaction modeling, especially lacking modeling for dynamic interaction. To solve this problem, we propose a vehicle trajectory prediction model SDT-ATT based on multivariate interaction modeling. Firstly, a hierarchical extracting module is constructed based on the bi-directional long short-term memory network (Bi-LSTM) to extract the contexts of the target vehicle parameters, neighbor vehicle spatial parameters and neighbor vehicle dynamic parameters, respectively. Secondly, the temporal, spatial and dynamic interactions of vehicles are modeled and learned based on the multi-head attention (MHA) mechanism, then fused to obtain the multivariate interaction features. Next, a direct multi-step prediction module is constructed based on long short-term memory network (LSTM), which directly outputs the future coordinates of the vehicle in the target prediction horizons. Finally, the vehicle trajectory prediction model SDT-ATT proposed in this paper is validated based on the public naturalistic driving datasets I-80 and US-101. The data results show that compared with the CS-LSTM model, the SDT-ATT has 9.3% lower ADE average value, 8.5% lower FDE average value and 8.7% lower RMSE average value, and the inference speed of the SDT-ATT model meets the real-time requirement.

Rate-distortion optimization (RDO) is a crucial technique in block based hybrid video encoders.However, the widely used independent RDO is far from obtaining optimal coding performance.To improve the rate-distortion (R-D) performance of high efficiency video coding (HEVC), a temporal dependent RDO algorithm was proposed.Firstly, the formula to calculate temporal distortion propagation factor was derived by using an exponential R-D function.Then, the coding distortion and motion compensation predicted error were obtained by pre-encoding, and the temporal distortion propagation factor was estimated by using distortion backward propagation.Finally, the Lagrange multiplier and quantization parameter of coding tree unit were adaptively adjusted to optimize bit resources allocation.Experimental results show that compared with the original RDO method in HEVC under the low-delay configuration, the proposed algorithm achieves an average 4.4% bit rate reduction for all test sequences, and up to 13.0% bit rate reduction for test sequence BasketballDrill, at the same reconstructed video quality.

Owing to their unique physical and chemical properties and remarkable biological activities, marine biological resources are emerging as important sources of raw materials for producing health products, food, and cosmetics. Collagen accounts for approximately 70% of the sea cucumber body wall, and its hydrolysis produces small-molecule collagen polypeptides with diverse biological functions, such as anticancer, antihypertensive, immune-enhancing, memory-enhancing, and cartilage tissue repairing effects. Notably, the potential of sea cucumber polypeptides in combination with anticancer therapy has garnered considerable attention. Determining the composition and structure of sea cucumber polypeptides and exploring their structure–activity relationships will aid in obtaining an in-depth understanding of their diverse biological activities and provide scientific insights for the development and utilization of these polypeptides. Therefore, this review focuses on the amino acid structures and activities of sea cucumber polypeptides of varying molecular weights. This study also provides an overview of the biological activities of various sea cucumber polypeptides and aims to establish a scientific basis for their development.

Background: Cancer is the most fatal disease in humans and the aberrant activity of various cell cycle proteins results in uncontrolled tumor cell proliferation, thus, regulating the cell cycle is an attractive target in cancer therapy. Objectives: Aurone is a naturally occurring active compound with a wide range of biological activities, of which 3, 4, 5-trimethoxyphenyl (TMP) is an important microtubule targeting pharmacophore. Based on the pharmacophore combination principle, we incorporate the TMP pharmacophore into the aurone structure and design a novel polymethoxy derivative that is expected to inhibit tumor cell proliferation through regulating the cell cycle. Methods: By introducing different substituents on C-4′ and C-3′, a series of new 4, 5, 6-trimethoxy aurone derivatives have been designed and synthesized. DU145, MCF-7 and H1299 cell lines were selected to evaluate their anticancer activity. The compound with the best cytotoxicity was then selected and the anticancer mechanisms were investigated by network pharmacology, flow cytometry, Western blot, and cell heat transfer assay. ADMET prediction evaluated the draggability of aurone derivatives. Results: Aurones 1b and 1c have selective anti-proliferative activity against DU145 cells. Among them, the compound 1c have better cytotoxicity against DU145. Compound 1c could bind the active cavity of CyclinB1/CDK1/CKS complex protein and induced G2/M phase arrest of DU145 cells by regulating the expression of CyclinB1 and p21. Compound 1c satisfies the Lipinski rule, is suitable for the absorption and metabolism index, and has a lower risk of cardiac toxicity. Conclusions: Polymethoxy aurones 1c might function as a CyclinB1/CDK1 inhibitor that deserved to be further developed for the treatment of prostate cancer.

A novel three-layer integrated structure was designed to meet the thermal-insulation and load-bearing requirements of high-speed telescopic wing aircraft. The structure consists of heat shield layer, load-bearing skeleton, and pyramid lattice structure filled with aerogel to achieve the insulation function. Sensitivity analysis of the design parameters and optimal design of the integrated structure was carried out, and the structure was optimized by using response surface method. Compared to the initial structure, the optimized structure has an equivalent thermal conductivity of 0.0276, reduced by 40%, and a relative density of 685 . 5 kg / m 3 , reduced by 3.7%. And it has a thermal conductivity that is over 20% lower than that of ceramic insulating tiles. Then, the integrated structure was regarded as a homogeneous plate, and the equivalent mechanical and thermal parameters were determined and verified by simulation and experimental results. The equivalence error was controlled within 10%. Finally, a simulation model of the telescopic wing was established. The result shows that the maximum deformation under 20 kPa surface pressure is 3.96 mm. The temperature resistance of the structure surface is up to 1500°C, and the wing internal temperature is controlled within 200°C after 1200 s of thermal loading. The results verified that the integrated structure meets the requirement of a high-speed telescopic wing.

Abstract Background The choice of mitral valve surgical approach has always been a difficult problem in patients with small left atrium. Case presentation We report a case of a patient with Marfan syndrome who underwent the David operation and mitral annuloplasty. The patient had a small left atrium, so we severed the superior vena cava and opened the interatrial groove and left atrial dome. This method allows for excellent exposure of the mitral valve and subvalvular apparatus, enabling a successful operation. Conclusion The interatrial groove-left atrial dome approach provides an option for patients with a small left atrium undergoing mitral valve surgery.

Deployable space structure technology is an approach used in building spacecraft, especially when realizing deployment and folding functions. Once in orbit, the structures are released from the fairing, deployed, and positioned. With the development of communication, remote-sensing, and navigation satellites, space-deployable structures have become cutting-edge research topics in space science and technology. This paper summarizes the current research status and development trend of space-deployable structures in China, including large space mesh antennas, space solar arrays, and deployable structures and mechanisms for deep-space exploration. Critical technologies of space-deployable structures are addressed from the perspectives of deployable mechanisms, cable-membrane form-finding, dynamic analysis, reliable environmental adaptability analysis, and validation. Finally, future technology developments and trends are elucidated in the fields of mesh antennas, solar arrays, deployable mechanisms, and on-orbit adjustment, assembly, and construction.

Hair follicle mesenchymal stem cells (HFMSCs) are slow cycling label retaining cells with self-regeneration ability, high proliferative potential, and multi-directional differentiation. HFMSCs can induce and promote the regeneration of the epidermis, hair follicles and sebaceous glands. HFMSCs have important advantages in regenerative medicine because of their abundance, wide availability, expansion in vitro, no genetic manipulation, no tumor formation and no ethical restriction. The synergy and antagonism between Wnt and other signaling pathways such as Shh, Notch and BMP signaling pathways play a crucial role in the regulation of stem cell homeostasis, epidermal development and hair follicle regeneration. The dysregulation of these pathways may result in hair loss diseases or skin tumors. This paper summarizes the classification and some specific biomarkers of HFMSCs, and discusses the induction of HFMSCs and the biomolecular pathways that affect hair regeneration, so as to shed light on the treatment strategies of hair diseases.

This paper endeavors to identify the causal effects between the smart city transition and the provision of healthcare services while uncovering potential pathways of influence. This study first constructs a logical analytical framework and posits five hypotheses for examination. Subsequently, leveraging the quasi-natural experiment of the China Smart City Pilot Policy (CSCPP), empirical tests are conducted utilizing a Difference-in-Differences (DD) two-way fixed effects model. The findings suggest that the CSCPP has significantly enhanced the provision of healthcare services. Even after addressing the formidable challenges of endogeneity, sample self-selection, and spatial spillovers, the conclusion remains robust. Mechanism tests indicate that the CSCPP primarily operates through two avenues: augmenting human resources and institutional services. Heterogeneity tests reveal that the efficacy of CSCPP is heightened in cities boasting administrative approval service centers, experiencing diminished financial constraints, and exhibiting elevated healthcare provision levels and situated in the eastern region. The theoretical and empirical analysis of this paper demonstrates that smart city transitions can facilitate the enhancement of healthcare services. The potential contribution of this paper is to enrich the conceptualization of governance frameworks for smart city transition while providing empirical evidence from China.

Polyploidization plays important roles in the evolution and breeding of the common wheat. Aegilops tauschii, the D-genome progenitor of the common wheat, provides a valuable pool of resistance genes to multiple diseases. Extensive studies focus on the exploration of these genes for wheat improvement. However, few studies have unveiled alternations on genome-wide expression pattern and histone modifications induced by whole-genome doubling (WGD) process. In this study, we conducted transcriptome analysis for the diploid and tetraploid Ae. taushcii lines using the leaf and root tissues. Both lines tend to display similar tissue-specific pattern. Interestingly, we found that TEs located in genic regions were depleted of the repressive histone mark H3K27me3, whereas their adjacent chromatin was enriched with H3K27me3. The tetraploid line exhibited higher levels of H3K27me3 in those regions than the diploid line, particularly for genic regions associated with TEs of the long interspersed nuclear elements (LINEs), CACTA, PIF/Harbinger, Tc1/Mariner and unclassed DNA transposon. Surprisingly, the expression levels of these TEs cognate genes were negatively associated with the levels of H3K27me3 between the tetraploid and diploid lines, suggesting the five types of TEs located within genic regions might be involved in the regulation of the ploidy-related gene expression, possibly through differential enrichment of H3K27me3 in the genic regions. These findings will help to understand the potential role of specific types of TEs on transcription in response to WGD.

Molten titanium-containing blast furnace slag can be used to obtain cast stone materials by controlling a reasonable heat treatment system. The material acquired during this process showcases residual stress, which additionally impacts the macroscopic characteristics of the material. This article simulates the process of manufacturing microcrystalline cast stones based on the self-crystallisation ability of titanium-containing products. This research employs X-ray diffraction to precisely and conveniently assess the residual stress of microcrystalline cast stones and investigates how viscosity and the thermal expansion coefficient influence the residual stress level. The study provides a theoretical foundation for explaining titanium-containing blast furnace slag and combines characterisation methods such as XRD (X-ray diffraction), SEM (Scanning electron microscope), DTA (Differential thermal analysis), and theoretical calculations such as Factpage and Fullprop to study the effect of the TiO2 content on the microstructure of self-crystallised mechanical characteristics of microcrystalline cast stones through residual stress. The results of the experiment indicate that as the TiO2 content in the system increases, the glass phase is reduced, the crystallinity improves, and the main crystal phase changes from a feldspar phase to a diopside phase. Furthermore, its viscosity, thermal expansion coefficient, and residual stress decrease while its corresponding compressive strength and bending strength increase.

Gleason Score (GS) 3 + 4 prostate cancer (PCa) is heterogeneous in clinical course and molecular features. Risk stratification of indolent and aggressive PCa with GS 3 + 4 is critical, especially those with bone metastasis (BM) potential. Microarray-based microRNA(miRNA) profiling with eight PCa cases with or without BM was used to screen the candidate miRNAs associated with BM. Transwell and MTS assays were used to characterize the function of miRNAs and target gene LASP1. RT-qPCR and immunohistochemistry assays were utilized to illustrate the clinical significance of miRNAs and target gene in a cohort of 309 Chinese PCa cases. In the current study, we identified that miR-1-3p, miR-143–3p and miR-145–5p are associated with BM of GS 3 + 4 PCa. Through functional experiments, we show that miR-1-3p/143–3p/145–5p promotes proliferation and migration of PCa in vitro. LASP1 was predicted as the common target of these three miRNAs which was further confirmed by a luciferase assay. Overexpression of LASP1 was correlated with higher GS, higher pathological stage, and the presence of metastasis by immunohistochemistry. siRNA knockdown of LASP1 significantly suppressed proliferation and migration, whereas overexpression of LASP1 promoted it. Bioinformatics analysis revealed the involvement of Wnt signaling pathway in LASP1 mediated function. LASP1 may activate Wnt signaling by interacting with β-catenin. In all, we suggest that miR-1-3p/143–3p/145–5p are associated with BM of Gleason 3 + 4 PCa. LASP1 is the common target of these miRNAs and may active Wnt signaling by interacting with β-catenin.

ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of compound mycotoxin detoxifier (CMD) on alleviating the toxic effect of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) for broiler growth performance. One-kilogram CMD consists of 667 g aflatoxin B1-degrading enzyme (ADE, 1,467 U/g), 200 g montmorillonite and 133 g compound probiotics (CP). The feeding experiment was divided into 2 stages (1–21 d and 22–42 d). In the early stage, a total of 300 one-day-old Ross broilers were randomly divided into 6 groups, 5 replications for each group, 10 broilers (half male and half female) in each replication. In the later feeding stage, about 240 twenty-two-day-old Ross broilers were randomly divided into 6 groups, 8 replications for each group, 5 broilers in each replication. Group A: basal diet; group B: basal diet with 40 μg/kg AFB1; group C: basal diet with 1 g/kg CMD; groups D, E, and F: basal diet with 40 μg/kg AFB1 plus 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 g/kg CMD, respectively. The results indicated that AFB1 significantly decreased average daily gain (ADG), protein metabolic rate, organ index of thymus, bursa of Fabricius (BF), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-PX) and catalase activities in serum, and increased AFB1 residues in serum and liver (P < 0.05). Hematoxylin-Eosin (HE) staining analysis of jejunum, liver and kidney showed that AFB1 caused the main pathological changes with different degrees of inflammatory cell infiltration. However, CMD additions could alleviate the negative effects of AFB1 on the above parameters. The gut microbiota analysis indicated that AFB1 could significantly increase the abundances of Staphylococcus-xylosu, Esherichia-coli-g-Escherichia-Shigella, and decrease Lactobacillus-aviarius abundance (P < 0.05), but which were adjusted to almost the same levels as the control group by CMD addition. The correlative analysis showed that Lactobacillus-aviarius abundance was positively correlated with ADG, SOD and BF (P < 0.05), whereas Staphylococcus-xylosus abundance was positively correlated with AFB1 residues in serum and liver (P < 0.05). In conclusion, CMD could keep gut microbiota stable, alleviate histological lesions, increase growth performance, and reduce mycotoxin toxicity. The optimal CMD addition should be 1 g/kg in AFB1-contaminated broilers diet.

Abstract Background Myocarditis is a cardiomyopathy associated with the inflammatory response. Rosuvastatin (RS) demonstrates cardioprotective effect in the clinical setting, although its cellular and molecular mechanisms in ameliorating myocarditis are largely unknown. MG53 (muscle-specific E3 ligase Mitsugumin 53), a newly identified striated muscle-specific protein, is involved in skeletal muscle membrane repair. We aimed to explore whether RS mediated the repair of cardiomyocytes in an MG53-dependent manner. Methods The RS-induced upregulation of MG53 was determined using RT-qPCR and western blotting. A lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced cell inflammatory model was constructed using rat cardiac muscle cell H9C2. Inflammatory injury was evaluated according to the alterations of cell viability, mitochondrial membrane potential, cell apoptosis, and expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines (interleukin-1β, interleukin-6, tumor necrosis factor-α, and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1). Small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) were used to silence MG53. The cardioprotective effect of RS and the inhibition of this protection by MG53 silence were evaluated in the forementioned in vitro model. The underlying mechanism was finally investigated using western blotting to detected the expressions of apoptotic markers (Bcl-2, Bax, Cleaved caspase-9, Cleaved caspase-3), cell cycle regulatory factors (Cyclin A, Cyclin E1, Cyclin D1, CDK2), and components involved in NF-κB signaling pathway (p-IκBa, Iκba, p-p65, p65). Results RS ameliorated LPS-induced inflammatory injury. RS upregulated the expression of MG53. MG53 was crucial for the RS-mediated repair response in vitro. Ablation of MG53 inhibited the RS-mediated protective effect. Furthermore, RS and MG53 interact in multiple signaling pathways to modulate recovery. Conclusion RS exerts cardioprotective effect in an MG53-dependent manner. MG53 may serve as a novel drug target for myocarditis treatment.

Abstract Increasing domestic solid waste (DSW) is becoming one of the most serious challenges for city and regional environment. As an epitome of the society, the investigation on the influencing factors and reduction of DSW of university students can not only provide policy suggestions for the waste management in the university campus, but also can achieve demonstration effect to other communities due to its high social status and wide impacts. This research combined direct weighing, questionnaire surveys, and regression analysis to quantify the influencing factors of DSW at East China Normal University’s dormitory in Shanghai. Direct weighting and questionnaire survey were conducted in 112 randomly selected dormitory rooms. Totally 523 valid questionnaires were collected. It is found that the average waste generation was 0.275 kg/day/cap, in which residual waste accounted for 64% of total, followed by household food waste (29%), and recyclable waste (7%). Regressions based on ordinary least square method suggested that students’ attitude towards waste played the most important role in affecting the waste reduction with its elasticity − 0.195. Lower educational level and better financial condition would lead to more waste generation, whose elasticity was 0.148 and 0.098 respectively. The influences of gender and major varied from waste types. Policies implications for university administration departments for sustainable waste and resource management include developing personalized and humanized waste management policies, enhancing environmental awareness through diverse educational activities, and expanding the publicity role of campus cultural activities on waste reduction.

In order to reduce the influence of strong halo effect on dim small target detection in daytime, a dim small target detection algorithm based on spiral gradient optimization estimation and high-order correlation enhancement is proposed in this paper. In this paper, we first design a spiral motion model to obtain the local gradient information in the central image point by perturbing the designed motion direction, then estimate the optimal background by establishing a gradient optimization model to achieve background suppression while effectively removing the halo phenomenon. Considering the original high-order correlation model only uses a single pixel for motion correlation, there is insufficient information utilization, an improved high-order correlation energy enhancement model is proposed to enhance the target signal, the algorithm first constructs an attention discrimination model based on inner and outer windows to obtain the salient region of the image, and then carries out multi frame high-order motion correlation of neighborhood blocks to enhance the target energy. After experiments, it is shown that compared with the traditional algorithm, the algorithm proposed in this paper can effectively weaken the halo effect while suppressing most of the background and can effectively enhance the local signal-to-noise ratio of the target.

Abstract Background Neuroimmunology is a rapidly expanding field, and there have been recent discoveries of new antibodies and neurological syndromes. Most of the current clinical studies have focused on disorders involving one specific antibody. We have summarized a class of antibodies that target common neuronal epitopes, and we have proposed the term “anti-neuron antibody syndrome” (ANAS). In this study, we aimed to clarify the clinical range and analyse the clinical features, cytokines/chemokines and predictors in ANAS. Methods This was a retrospective cohort study investigating patients with neurological manifestations that were positive for anti-neuron antibodies. Results A total of 110 patients were identified, of which 43 patients were classified as having autoimmune encephalitis (AE) and the other 67 were classified as having paraneoplastic neurological syndrome (PNS). With regards to anti-neuron antibodies, 42 patients tested positive for anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) antibody, 19 for anti-Hu, 14 for anti-Yo and 12 for anti-PNMA2 (Ma2). There were significant differences between the ANAS and control groups in serum B cell-activating factor (BAFF) levels and in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) C-X-C motif chemokine10 (CXCL10), CXCL13, interleukin10 (IL10), BAFF and transforming growth factor β1 (TGFβ1) levels. Predictors of poor outcomes included having tumours (P = 0.0193) and having a chronic onset (P = 0.0306), and predictors of relapses included having lower levels of CSF BAFF (P = 0.0491) and having a larger ratio of serum TGFβ1/serum CXCL13 (P = 0.0182). Conclusions Most patients with ANAS had a relatively good prognosis. Having tumours and a chronic onset were both associated with poor outcomes. CSF BAFF and the ratio of serum TGFβ1/serum CXCL13 were associated with relapses.

Summary: The generation of small interfering RNA (siRNA) involves many RNA processing components, including SUPPRESSOR OF GENE SILENCING 3 (SGS3), RNA-DEPENDENT RNA POLYMERASE 6 (RDR6), and DICER-LIKE proteins (DCLs). Nonetheless, how these components are coordinated to produce siRNAs is unclear. Here, we show that SGS3 forms condensates via phase separation in vivo and in vitro. SGS3 interacts with RDR6 and drives it to form siRNA bodies in cytoplasm, which is promoted by SGS3-targeted RNAs. Disrupting SGS3 phase separation abrogates siRNA body assembly and siRNA biogenesis, whereas coexpression of SGS3 and RDR6 induces siRNA body formation in tobacco and yeast cells. Dysfunction in translation and mRNA decay increases the number of siRNA bodies, whereas DCL2/4 mutations enhance their size. Purification of SGS3 condensates identifies numerous RNA-binding proteins and siRNA processing components. Together, our findings reveal that SGS3 phase separation-mediated formation of siRNA bodies is essential for siRNA production and gene silencing.

The variable-sweep wing is very attractive for cross-speed domain aircraft. The shear-sliding rigid-flexible coupled skin variable-sweep wing and its associated mechanism are designed and optimized. The variable-sweep wing has smooth continuous deformation and rigid-flexible coupling features. The calculation model of the sliding skin patch segmentation strategy is established, and the aerodynamic characteristics of the two-dimensional airfoil before and after the deformation of the wing skin are analyzed. According to the deformation characteristics of sliding skin, the configuration of the associated mechanism is determined, and the kinematic characteristics of the reference points of each skin are calculated. The kinematic simulation verifies the force of the mechanism model at the joint of skin surfaces during the deformation process. Considering the aerodynamic heat at supersonic speed, the heat transfer, heat distribution, and structural thermal modes between the flow field and the skin are calculated based on the finite element method. The dynamic characteristics of the swept wing with different flight speeds and different morphologies are analyzed. The natural frequencies are found to be reduced by about 30% to 50% compared to cold models at supersonic speeds. Based on the results of the thermal fluid-solid coupling calculation, the skeleton structure of the swept wing is optimized, and the skeleton structure with 25% mass reduction and better performance is obtained.

Abstract Background The dynamic process of transcription termination produces transient RNA intermediates that are difficult to distinguish from each other via short-read sequencing methods. Results Here, we use single-molecule nascent RNA sequencing to characterize the various forms of transient RNAs during termination at genome-wide scale in wildtype Arabidopsis and in atxrn3, fpa, and met1 mutants. Our data reveal a wide range of termination windows among genes, ranging from ~ 50 nt to over 1000 nt. We also observe efficient termination before downstream tRNA genes, suggesting that chromatin structure around the promoter region of tRNA genes may block pol II elongation. 5′ Cleaved readthrough transcription in atxrn3 with delayed termination can run into downstream genes to produce normally spliced and polyadenylated mRNAs in the absence of their own transcription initiation. Consistent with previous reports, we also observe long chimeric transcripts with cryptic splicing in fpa mutant; but loss of CG DNA methylation has no obvious impact on termination in the met1 mutant. Conclusions Our method is applicable to establish a comprehensive termination landscape in a broad range of species.
