Abstract Background C-type lectins (CTLs) are a large family of proteins with sugar-binding activity. CTLs contain an evolutionarily conserved C-type lectin domain (CTLD) that binds microbial carbohydrates in a calcium-dependent manner, thereby playing a key role in both microbial pathogenesis and innate immune responses. Aedes albopictus is an important vector for transmitting dengue virus (DENV) worldwide. Currently, the molecular characteristics and functions of CTLs in Ae. albopictus are largely unknown. Methods Transcripts encoding CTL proteins in the Ae. albopictus genome assembly were analyzed via sequence blast. Phylogenetic analysis and molecular characterization were performed to identify the functional domains of the CTLs. Quantitative analysis was performed to determine the gene expression features of CTLs during mosquito development and in different tissues of female adults after blood feeding. In addition, the functional role of CTLs in response to DENV infection was investigated in Ae. albopictus mosquito cells. Results We identified 39 transcripts encoding CTL proteins in the Ae. albopictus transcriptome. Aedes albopictus CTLs are classified into three groups based on the number of CTLDs and the domain architecture. These included 29 CTL-Ss (single-CTLDs), 1 immulectins (dual-CTLD) and 9 CTL-Xs (CTLDs with other domains). Phylogenetic analysis and structural modeling indicated that CTLs in Ae. albopictus are highly conserved with the homologous CTLs in Aedes aegypti. The expression profile assay revealed differential expression patterns of CTLs in both developmental stages and in adult female tissues. Knockdown and overexpression of three CTLs (CTL-S12, S17 and S19) confirmed that they can promote dengue virus infection in Ae. albopictus cells. Conclusions The CTL genes in Ae. albopictus mosquito and other mosquito species are evolutionarily conserved and exhibit different developmental and tissue expression features. The functional assay indicated that three CTLs in Ae. albopictus mosquitoes are involved in promoting dengue virus infection. Our study revealed that CTLs play important roles in both the physiological processes and viral infection in mosquito vectors. Graphical Abstract

Abstract The early diagnosis and treatment of foreign body aspiration (FBA) can significantly improve the overall prognosis of children. There are significant differences in the epidemiology and clinical characteristics of FBA in different regions. Therefore, we conducted a real-world study in the western region of China with over 4000 patients. The aim of this study was to improve the understanding of FBA in terms of its types, the specific months of its occurrence, and the distribution of primary caregiver characteristics in western China. We collected the clinical and epidemiological data of children who were diagnosed with FBA in our hospital over the past 20 years through a big data centre. We matched the data of healthy children who underwent routine physical examinations at the paediatric health clinic during the same period to analyse the differences in the data of actual guardians. A total of 4227 patients from five provinces were included in this study. Foreign bodies were removed by rigid bronchoscopy in 99.4% (4202/4227) of patients, with a median age of 19 months and a median surgical duration 16 min. January was the most common month of onset for 1725 patients, followed by February, with 1027 patients. The most common types of foreign objects were melon peanuts, seeds and walnuts, accounting for 47.2%, 15.3%, and 10.2%, respectively. Abstract Background While there is a scarcity of studies utilizing strain elastography (SE) for the endometrium, commonly used gynecologic ultrasound instruments are equipped with built-in elastography modalities, primarily SE. With the objective of facilitating comprehensive examinations for gynecologic patients on a single ultrasound instrument, we undertook this study. Therefore, our aim was to study the value of SE ultrasonography in the assessment of endometrial elasticity in normal women. Methods Three hundred and twenty normal women were recruited at our hospitals from November 2021 to December 2022. Each volunteer underwent a transvaginal two-dimensional (2D) and SE ultrasound during either the endometrial proliferative or secretory phase. The 2D ultrasound indices obtained included endometrial thickness, echo type (type A, B, and C), and blood flow grading (grades 0, 1, 2, and 3). SE indices obtained included endometrial strain values, myometrial strain values, and endometrial strain ratios. Differences in endometrial ultrasound indices between different menstrual cycles and different age groups were compared. Results Comparison of 2D ultrasound parameters revealed that endometrial thickness in the proliferative phase endometrium group was smaller than that in the secretory phase endometrium group, with a statistically significant difference. Additionally, there was a statistically significant difference in endometrial echo types between the two groups, while the disparity in endometrial blood flow grading was not significant. Regarding SE parameters, the median and mean values of endometrial strain ratio in the proliferative phase endometrium group were smaller than those in the secretory phase endometrium group, showing a statistically significant difference. However, there were no significant differences observed between the two groups in endometrial strain and myometrial strain in the fundus. Furthermore, there were no significant differences in any of the endometrial ultrasound indices among the different age groups. Conclusions SE can reflect changes in endometrial stiffness in different menstrual cycles and is an important tool for assessing endometrial softness.

Abstract Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) based on perovskite semiconductor materials with tunable emission wavelength in visible light range as well as narrow linewidth are potential competitors among current light-emitting display technologies, but still suffer from severe instability driven by electric field. Here, we develop a stable, efficient and high-color purity hybrid LED with a tandem structure by combining the perovskite LED and the commercial organic LED technologies to accelerate the practical application of perovskites. Perovskite LED and organic LED with close photoluminescence peak are selected to maximize photon emission without photon reabsorption and to achieve the narrowed emission spectra. By designing an efficient interconnecting layer with p-type interface doping that provides good opto-electric coupling and reduces Joule heating, the resulting green emitting hybrid LED shows a narrow linewidth of around 30 nm, a peak luminance of over 176,000 cd m−2, a maximum external quantum efficiency of over 40%, and an operational half-lifetime of over 42,000 h.

Abstract Background Breast cancer (BC) is a common malignancy which threatens the health of women. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are critical factors in multiple cancers, including BC. The aim of this experiment was to investigate the molecular mechanisms of circRNA Septin 9 (circSEPT9) in the progression of BC. Methods CircSEPT9, microRNA‐625‐5p (miR‐625‐5p) and polypyrimidine tract‐binding protein 3 (PTBP3) levels were determined by quantitative real‐time polymerase chain reaction (qRT‐PCR). Western blot was performed to detect the protein levels of PTBP3, E‐cadherin and vimentin. Cell counting kit‐8 assay (CCK8) and thymidine analog 5‐ethynyl‐2′‐deoxyuridine (EDU) was utilized for proliferation examination. Flow cytometry was conducted to measure apoptosis. Transwell assay and wound healing assay to investigate the migration of BC cells. Glucose uptake and lactate production were determined by specific kits. Additionally, dual‐luciferase reporter assay and RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) assay were utilized to verify the interaction. A murine xenograft model was established to investigate the function of circSEPT9 in BC in vivo. Results Overexpression of circSEPT9 was found in BC tissues and cells. Silencing circSEPT9 impeded BC cell proliferation, migration, epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) and glycolytic metabolism but facilitated cell apoptosis in vitro. Meanwhile, circSEPT9 knockdown constrained tumor growth in vivo. MiR‐625‐5p was targeted by circSEPT9. The influence of silencing circSEPT9 on BC cell function was regained by miR‐625‐5p inhibitor. Furthermore, miR‐625‐5p regulated BC cell malignant phenotypes via downregulating PTBP3. Conclusion circSEPT9 contributed to the malignant progression of BC by up‐regulating PTBP3 via sponging miR‐625‐5p.

In the current research, kaolin-decorated Au nanoparticles were produced by a green medication method by using Strawberry root’s extract as a natural coating and reducing component for capping and stabilizing Au NPs over the kaolin. The Au NPs/kaolin material was thoroughly characterized using XRD, FE-SEM, EDX-elemental mapping, TEM, and ICP. Characterization data confirmed the well-supporting of Au NPs over the kaolin. TEM images displayed the spherical shaped gold nanoparticles averaging 20–40 nm in size over the kaolin surface. The cytotoxicity and anti-bile duct cancer properties of Au NPs/kaolin were investigated through the utilization of MTT assay on three bile duct cancer cell lines, namely OCUCHLM1, EGI1, and GBCSD. Au nanoparticles (Au NPs) combined with kaolin exhibited dose-dependent anti-bile duct cancer properties and significantly reduced cell viability in OCUCHLM1, EGI1, and GBCSD cell lines. Importantly, these effects were observed without causing any cytotoxicity in the normal cell line (HUVECs). The OCUCHLM1 cell line exhibited the most significant anti-bile duct cancer effects when treated with Au NPs/kaolin, surpassing the results observed in other cell lines. Upon the successful validation of the aforementioned findings in the clinical trial investigations, Au NPs/kaolin could potentially serve as an effective chemotherapeutic agent in combating bile duct cancer.

Energy storage batteries still have usable capacity after retirement, with excellent secondary utilization value. Estimating the state of health (SOH) of retired batteries is critical to ensure their reuse. As the battery first reaches the end of its useful life, its performance degradation pattern significantly differs from that in service, increasing the difficulty of accurate SOH estimation. This study developed a SOH estimation method for retired batteries based on battery positive, negative, and center temperature data from 80% to 50% of retired battery health. The variational mode decomposition technique divides the temperature signal into multiple trends representing different battery aging mechanisms. The decomposed modes are given a physical meaningfulness, providing a new perspective to monitor battery health. In addition, this study proposes a multi-task learning framework that realizes the parallel processing of two tasks under this framework. On the one hand, the gated recurrent unit is used to estimate the relationship between the battery baseline temperature and SOH, which captures macro-degradation trends of the battery. On the other hand, the transformer network is responsible for analyzing short-term battery health fluctuations caused by subtle temperature changes. This multi-task approach can simultaneously process and analyze both macro-degradation trends and micro-fluctuations in battery degradation, estimating that the root mean square error of battery health is 5.22 × 10−5. Compared to the existing techniques, this study shows potential applications in the retired battery state of health assessment.

Abstract Objective Mucinous breast cancer (MBC) is a kind of breast cancer (BC), which is rare in clinic, mainly for women, because of the low incidence rate, so there is no unified standard treatment protocol. Elderly patients have a poor prognosis due to their combined comorbidities. This study aims to investigate the effect of surgery and chemoradiotherapy on the prognosis of elderly female MBC patients and construct nomograms for predicting the OS and CSS in elderly female MBC patients. Methods Data for female MBC patients over 65 years are obtained from the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database, patients were divided into two groups: the training set and the validation set. External validation data of the prediction model were provided by Kunming Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. We used Cox regression modeling, which was used to identify independent risk factors affecting patient prognosis. After avoiding confounding bias according to the multifactorial Cox regression model, we used these screened statistically significant results to construct column‐line plots. The performance of the model was tested using the consistency index (c‐index), the calibration curve, and the area under the operating characteristic curve of the receiver (AUC). Subsequently, we used decision curve analysis (DCA) to examine the potential clinical value of our nomograms. Results A total of 8103 elderly MBC female patients were extracted from the database SEER and were assigned to the training and validation set, randomly. A total of 83 patients from Kunming Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine were used in the external verification set. After multifactorial Cox regression analysis, we found that age, race, T‐stage, M‐stage, surgical approach, radiotherapy, and tumor size were independent risk factors for OS in elderly MBC patients. Similarly, independent risk factors of CSS included age, marital status, N stage, M stage, surgical approach, chemotherapy, and tumor size. The C‐index for the OS training, validation, and external verification set were 0.731 (95%CI 0.715–0.747), 0.738 (95%CI 0.724–0.752), and 0.809 (95%CI 0.731–0.8874). The C‐index of the training set, the validation set, and external verification set for CSS were 0.786 (95%CI 0.747–0.825), 0.776 (95%CI 0.737–0.815), and 0.84 (95%CI0.754–0.926), respectively. The AUC, calibration curves and DCA also showed good accuracy. Conclusions In this study, we construct a new nomogram to predict the prognosis of elderly patients with MBC. The nomograms have undergone internal and external validation and have been confirmed to have good clinical applicability. At the same time, we found that for elderly female MBC patients, surgery and radiotherapy significantly benefit their survival, but chemotherapy is not conducive to patient survival.

Abstract Background Tuber starch and steroidal glycoalkaloid (SGA)-related traits have been consistently prioritized in potato breeding, while allelic variation pattern of genes that underlie these traits is less explored. Results Here, we focused on the genes involved in two important metabolic pathways in the potato: starch metabolism and SGA biosynthesis. We identified 119 genes consisting of 81 involved in starch metabolism and 38 in the biosynthesis of steroidal glycoalkaloids, and discovered 96,166 allelic variants among 2,169 gene haplotypes in six autotetraploid potato genomes. Comparative analyses revealed an uneven distribution of allelic variants among gene haplotypes and that the vast majority of deleterious mutations in these genes are retained in heterozygous state in the autotetraploid potato genomes. Leveraging full-length cDNA sequencing data, we find that approximately 70% of haplotypes of the 119 genes are transcribable. Population genetic analyses identify starch and SGA biosynthetic genes that are potentially conserved or diverged between potato varieties with varying starch or SGA content. Conclusions These results deepen the understanding of haplotypic diversity within functionally important genes in autotetraploid genomes and may facilitate functional characterization of genes or haplotypes contributing to traits related to starch and SGA in potato.

Abstract Infectious oral diseases are longstanding global public health concerns. However, traditional medical approaches to address these diseases are costly, traumatic, and prone to relapse. Here, we propose a foodborne prophylactic strategy using aloin to safeguard dental collagen. The effect of aloin on the stability of dental collagen was evaluated by treating dentin with a solution containing aloin (0.1 mg/mL) for 2 min. This concentration is comparable to the natural aloin content of edible aloe. Furthermore, we investigated the mechanisms underlying the interactions between aloin and dentin collagen. Our findings, obtained through fluorescence spectroscopy, attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Gaussian peak fitting, circular dichroism spectroscopy, and X‐ray diffraction, revealed that aloin interacts with dental collagen through noncovalent bonding, specifically hydrogen bonding in situ. This interaction leads to a reduction in the distance between molecules and an increase in the proportion of stable α‐helical chains in the dental collagen. The ultimate tensile strength and thermogravimetric analysis demonstrated that dental collagen treated with aloin exhibited improved mechanical strength and thermostability. Additionally, the release of hydroxyproline, cross‐linked carboxy‐terminal telopeptide of type I collagen, and C‐terminal cross‐linked telopeptide of type I collagen, along with weight loss, indicated an enhancement in the enzymatic stability of dental collagen. These findings suggest that aloin administration could be a daily, nondestructive, and cost‐effective strategy for managing infectious oral diseases.

In the face of frequent floods under climate and environmental changes, it is particularly important to measure the supply and demand of flood regulation services. Using the Hainan Island as an illustrative case, this study constructs a spatial spillover model to examine the spatial correlation mode and evolution of regional land-use degree through the network of ecosystem service flow. The research results show that forests, grasslands, and reservoirs function as the primary suppliers of flood regulation services, with forests contributing significantly to the regulation of floods. High flood risk was identified in the eastern, northern, and western regions of the Hainan Island, corresponding to increased demand for flood regulation services in croplands, towns, and rural settlements within these areas. The flow of flood regulation services within the Hainan Island was found to be directed from the center to the surrounding areas, with medium and high service flows predominantly concentrated in the northern and surrounding regions. The degree of land use on the Hainan Island demonstrated an influence on socio-economic development. Additionally, the flow network of ecological services was identified as a crucial factor in spatial spillovers, reflecting the level of interaction between county units. HIGHLIGHTS We mapped the flow paths of flood regulation services.; Flood regulation service flow reflects the spatial relationships.; The ecosystem service flow and spatial spillover effect are theoretically related.; Flood regulation services can be embedded into SDM as spatial weight matrixes.; Flood regulation service flows have a strong spatial effect on land-use degree.;

Abstract Background Osteosarcoma is the most common malignant primary bone tumor in infants and adolescents. The lack of understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying osteosarcoma progression and metastasis has contributed to a plateau in the development of current therapies. Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress has emerged as a significant contributor to the malignant progression of tumors, but its potential regulatory mechanisms in osteosarcoma progression remain unknown. Methods In this study, we collected RNA sequencing and clinical data of osteosarcoma from The TCGA, GSE21257, and GSE33382 cohorts. Differentially expressed analysis and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression analysis were conducted to identify prognostic genes and construct an ER stress-related prognostic signature (ERSRPS). Survival analysis and time dependent ROC analysis were performed to evaluate the predictive performance of the constructed prognostic signature. The “ESTIMATE” package and ssGSEA algorithm were utilized to evaluate the differences in immune cells infiltration between the groups. Cell-based assays, including CCK-8, colony formation, and transwell assays and co-culture system were performed to assess the effects of the target gene and small molecular drug in osteosarcoma. Animal models were employed to assess the anti-osteosarcoma effects of small molecular drug. Results Five genes (BLC2, MAGEA3, MAP3K5, STC2, TXNDC12) were identified to construct an ERSRPS. The ER stress-related gene Stanniocalcin 2 (STC2) was identified as a risk gene in this signature. Additionally, STC2 knockdown significantly inhibited osteosarcoma cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. Furthermore, the ER stress-related gene STC2 was found to downregulate the expression of MHC-I molecules in osteosarcoma cells, and mediate immune responses through influencing the infiltration and modulating the function of CD8+ T cells. Patients categorized by risk scores showed distinct immune status, and immunotherapy response. ISOX was subsequently identified and validated as an effective anti-osteosarcoma drug through a combination of CMap database screening and in vitro and in vivo experiments. Conclusion The ERSRPS may guide personalized treatment decisions for osteosarcoma, and ISOX holds promise for repurposing in osteosarcoma treatment.

Cross media knowledge information retrieval provides strong support for information processing and utilization in the information society, but there are problems such as heterogeneity in cross media knowledge information. Therefore, a cross media knowledge information retrieval model using D-S evidence theory is proposed, which involves using approximate calculation methods to improve this theory for information fusion, reducing computational complexity, and using deep networks for fine-grained information retrieval to improve retrieval accuracy. Primary lung cancer in childhood is extremely rare, with an incidence rate of less than 2/100,0000, and pulmonary mucoepidermoid carcinoma (PMEC), is even rarer. Their symptoms are usually not specific, and there are no guidelines for their management, which makes their clinical management a challenge for pediatricians. The purpose of this report is to discuss the clinical presentation, positive signs, examinations, pathological characteristics, surgical modalities, chemotherapy regimens, and prognosis in children. The clinical data of four patients diagnosed with PMEC at the Children’s Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from June 2021 to November 2022 were retrospectively analyzed, and their clinical features, treatment, and prognosis were summarized. Among them, two were male and two were female; their ages ranged from 3 years and 10 months to 10 years and 11 months, and all were staged according to tumor node metastasis classification (TNM). Immunohistochemical tests were performed in all children, among which four cases were positive for cytokeratin (CK), two cases were positive for CK7, four cases were positive for p63, about 5–10% of tumor cells were positive for Ki67. Among the four children, three had surgery alone and one had surgery + chemotherapy. All four children are presently living, with no evidence of tumor recurrence or metastasis. PMEC in children is very rare, and its age of onset and symptoms are not specific, and there is no obvious correlation with gender. Its diagnosis mainly relies on pathomorphological diagnosis, and immunohistochemical detection has no specific performance. The prognosis of children with PMEC is related to the clinical stage and whether surgery is performed. Whether further chemotherapy or radiotherapy is needed for patients who cannot undergo surgical resection and for those who have a combination of distant metastases requires further clinical studies.

Abstract Perovskite films with large crystal size, preferred orientation, and facile fabrication process, combining advantages of single‐crystal and polycrystalline films, have gained considerable attention recently. However, there is little research on the facet properties of perovskite films. Here, (111)‐ and (001)‐oriented perovskite films with bandgaps ranging from 1.53 to 1.77 eV, and systematically investigated their orientation‐dependent properties are achieved. The (111)‐oriented films show electron‐dominated traps and the (001)‐oriented films show hole‐dominated traps, which are related to their atomic arrangement at the surface. Compared with the (001)‐oriented films, the (111)‐oriented films exhibit lower work function and superior water/oxygen robustness. For the wide‐bandgap films, the lattice of the (001)‐oriented film provides an unobstructed passage for ion migration. Comparably, the (111)‐oriented films exhibit suppressed ion migration and excellent phase stability. The optimized unencapsulated solar cells based on both (001) and (111) orientations show a similar high efficiency of ≈23%. The (111)‐oriented solar cell exhibits excellent stability, maintaining 95% of its initial efficiency after 1500 h maximum power point (MPP) tracking test, and 97% initial efficiency after 3000 h aging in ambient conditions. This work paves the way for the rational design, controllable synthesis, and targeted optimization of uniaxial‐oriented perovskite films for various electronic applications.

Abstract Mild‐heat photothermal antibacterial therapy avoids heat‐induced damage to normal tissues but causes bacterial tolerance. The use of photothermal therapy in synergy with chemodynamic therapy is expected to address this issue. Herein, two pseudo‐conjugated polymers PM123 with photothermal units and PFc with ferrocene (Fc) units are designed to co‐assemble with DSPE‐mPEG2000 into nanoparticle NPM123/Fc. NPM123/Fc under 1064 nm laser irradiation (NPM123/Fc+NIR‐II) generates mild heat and additionally more toxic ∙OH from endogenous H2O2, displaying a strong synergistic photothermal and chemodynamic effect. NPM123/Fc+NIR‐II gives >90% inhibition rates against MDR ESKAPE pathogens in vitro. Metabolomics analysis unveils that NPM123/Fc+NIR‐II induces bacterial metabolic dysregulation including inhibited nucleic acid synthesis, disordered energy metabolism, enhanced oxidative stress, and elevated DNA damage. Further, NPM123/Fc+NIR‐II possesses >90% bacteriostatic rates at infected wounds in mice, resulting in almost full recovery of infected wounds. Immunodetection and transcriptomics assays disclose that the therapeutic effect is mainly dependent on the inhibition of inflammatory reactions and the promotion of wound healing. What is more, thioketal bonds in NPM123/Fc are susceptible to ROS, making it degradable with highly favorable biosafety in vitro and in vivo. NPM123/Fc+NIR‐II with a unique synergistic antibacterial strategy would be much less prone to select bacterial resistance and represent a promising antibiotics‐alternative anti‐infective measure.

The wind–thermal bundled power system achieves energy complementarity and optimized scheduling, which is an important way to build a new type of energy system. For the safe and stable operation of the wind–thermal bundled power system, accurate data-driven analysis is necessary to maintain real-time balance between electricity supply and demand. By summarizing the development and characteristics of wind–thermal bundled power system in China and different countries, current research in this field can be clearly defined in two aspects: short-term wind power prediction for wind farms and performance evaluation of automatic generation control (AGC) for thermal power generation units. For short-term wind power prediction, it is recommended to focus on historical data preprocessing and artificial intelligence methods. The technical characteristics of different data-driven wind power prediction methods have been compared in detail. For performance evaluation of AGC units, a comprehensive analysis was conducted on current evaluation methods, including the “permitted-band” and “regulation mileage” methods, as well as the issue of evaluation failure in traditional evaluation methods in practical engineering. Finally, the relative optimal dynamic performance of AGC units was discussed and the future trend of data-driven research in wind–thermal bundled power system was summarized.

Abstract To evaluate the clinical efficacy and meniscus healing rates of the arthroscopically assisted tendon graft fixation of the medial meniscus posterior root tears (MMPRTs), and to identify some independent risk factors correlated with meniscal root healing status. We conducted a retrospective study with 129 patients who received arthroscopically assisted tendon graft fixation of the MMPRTs between January 2018 and September 2021. Functional recovery of the knee was evaluated and meniscal root healing status was assessed. The associations between different clinical factors and meniscal root healing status were analyzed. 98 (76.0%) patients had complete meniscal root healing with a minimum 2-year follow-up, and the Lysholm score, international knee documentation committee score, and visual analogue scale score were significantly improved at final follow-up (P 37.5 years, BMI > 24.5 kg/m2, preoperative meniscus extrusion > 2.7 mm and varus degree > 3.3° as independent risk factors correlated with incomplete meniscus root healing status.

Abstract Background Acute renal injury (AKI) after aortic arch reconstruction with cardiopulmonary bypass leads to injury of multiple organs and increases perioperative mortality. The study was performed to explore risk factors for AKI. We aim to develop a prediction model that can be used to accurately predict AKI through machine learning (ML). Methods A retrospective analysis was performed on 134 patients with aortic arch reconstruction with cardiopulmonary bypass who were treated at our hospital from January 2002 to January 2022. Risk factors for AKI were compositive and were evaluated with comprehensive analyses. Six artificial intelligence (AI) models were used for machine learning to build prediction models and to screen out the best model to predict AKI. Results Weight, eGFR, cyanosis, PDA, newborn birth and duration of renal ischemia were closely related to AKI. By integrating the results of the training cohort and validation cohort, we finally confirmed that the logistic regression model was the most stable model among all the models, and the logistic regression model showed good discrimination, calibration and clinical practicability. Based on 6 independent factors, the dynamic nomogram can be used as a predictive tool for clinical application. Conclusions DHCA could be considered in aortic arch reconstruction if additional perfusion of lower body were not performed especially when renal ischemia is greater than 30 min. Abstract The selenium-containing enzyme GPX4 moonlights as a central regulator of ferroptosis, an iron-dependent, nonapoptotic form of regulated cell death caused by lipid peroxidation. Yet, little is known about the mechanisms underlying the regulation of its post-transcriptional modifications. Here, we identify the tripartite motif-containing protein TRIM26 as an E3 ubiquitin ligase of GPX4. TRIM26 directly interacts with GPX4 through its Ring domain and catalyzes the ubiquitination of GPX4 at K107 and K117, which promotes the switch in polyubiquitination of GPX4 from K48 to K63, thus enhancing GPX4 protein stability. Moreover, PLK1-mediated S127 phosphorylation of TRIM26 enhances the interaction between TRIM26 and GPX4. Inhibition of TRIM26 phosphorylation causes a reduction in GPX4 K63-linked polyubiquitination and diminishes GPX4 protein levels in tumor cells. Further investigation revealed that TRIM26 is overexpressed in glioma cells. TRIM26 silencing dramatically impedes ferroptosis resistance and tumorigenesis in glioma in vivo and in vitro. Clinically, TRIM26 expression shows a direct correlation with GPX4 and PLK1 levels in glioma samples and is associated with poor outcome in patients with glioma. Collectively, these findings define the role of GPX4 K63-linked polyubiquitination in ferroptosis and suggest a potential strategy for glioma treatment.

ABSTRACT: Brown fermented milk (BFM) is favored by consumers in the dairy market for its unique burnt flavor and brown color. However, Maillard reaction products (MRP) from high-temperature baking are also noteworthy. In this study, tea polyphenols (TP) were initially developed as potential inhibitors of MRP formation in BFM. The results showed that the flavor profile of BFM did not change after adding 0.08% (wt/wt) of TP, and its inhibition rates on 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furaldehyde (5-HMF), glyoxal (GO), methylglyoxal (MGO), Nε-carboxymethyl lysine (CML), and Nε-carboxyethyl lysine (CEL) were 60.8%, 27.12%, 23.44%, 57.7%, and 31.28%, respectively. After 21 d of storage, the levels of 5-HMF, GO, MGO, CML, and CEL in BFM with TP were 46.3%, 9.7%, 20.6%, 5.2%, and 24.7% lower than the control group, respectively. Moreover, a smaller change occurred in their color and the browning index was lower than that of the control group. The significance of this study was to develop TP as additives to inhibit the production of MRP in brown fermented yogurt without changing color and flavors, thereby making dairy products safer for consumers.

ABSTRACT: In this study, transglutaminase (TG), glucono-δ-lactone (GDL), and citric acid (CA) were used to induce the formation of whey protein isolate (WPI)-milk fat emulsion gels to embed lutein, and the emulsion gels induced in different ways were used for the preparation of processed cheese. The protective effect of emulsion gels induced in different ways on lutein was investigated, and the stability of lutein in emulsion gels and processed cheese was analyzed. The results showed that the acidification rate of CA was higher than that of GDL, which was the key step in acid-induced gels, and that the difference in acidification rate led to differences in gel structure. Compared with the 2 acid inducers (GDL and CA), TG exhibited greater potential for forming gel structures with high strength. The TG-induced emulsion gels showed the best physical stability and the highest embedding efficiency for lutein. After heat treatment (85°C), the GDL-induced emulsion gels had higher retention rate of lutein and showed good thermal stability compared with the CA-induced emulsion gels. The processed cheese added with the TG-induced emulsion gel had higher hardness and springiness compared with the processed cheese added with the other 2 kinds of emulsion gels, whereas the processed cheese added with the CA-induced emulsion gel had a lower density of network structure, showing porosity and a larger aggregated structure, but the highest bioavailability of lutein. These results provide valuable information for the formation of cold-set emulsion gel and provide the possibility for the application of emulsion gel embedding active substances in processed cheese.

Pest control is an important guarantee for agricultural production. Pests are mostly light-avoiding and often gather on the bottom of crop leaves. However, spraying agricultural machinery mostly adopts top-down spraying, which suffers from low pesticide utilization and poor insect removal effect. Therefore, the upward spraying mode and intelligent nozzle have gradually become the research hotspot of precision agriculture. This paper designs a leaf-bottom pest control robot with adaptive chassis and adjustable selective nozzle. Firstly, the adaptive chassis is designed based on the MacPherson suspension, which uses shock absorption to drive the track to swing within a 30° angle. Secondly, a new type of cone angle adjustable selective nozzle was developed, which achieves adaptive selective precision spraying under visual guidance. Then, based on a convolutional block attention module (CBAM), the multi-CBAM-YOLOv5s network model was improved to achieve a 70% recognition rate of leaf-bottom spotted bad point in video streams. Finally, functional tests of the adaptive chassis and the adjustable selective spraying system were conducted. The data indicate that the adaptive chassis can adapt to diverse single-ridge requirements of soybeans and corn while protecting the ridge slopes. The selective spraying system achieves 70% precision in pesticide application, greatly reducing the use of pesticides. The scheme explores a ridge-friendly leaf-bottom pest control plan, providing a technical reference for improving spraying effect, reducing pesticide usage, and mitigating environmental pollution.

With the rapid development of geo-positioning technologies, location-based services have become increasingly widespread. In the field of location-based services, range queries on geographical data have emerged as an important research topic, attracting significant attention from academia and industry. In many applications, data owners choose to outsource their geographical data and range query tasks to cloud servers to alleviate the burden of local data storage and computation. However, this outsourcing presents many security challenges. These challenges include adversaries analyzing outsourced geographical data and query requests to obtain privacy information, untrusted cloud servers selectively querying a portion of the outsourced data to conserve computational resources, returning incorrect search results to data users, and even illegally modifying the outsourced geographical data, etc. To address these security concerns and provide reliable services to data owners and data users, this paper proposes an efficient and verifiable range query scheme (EVRQ) for encrypted geographical information in untrusted cloud environments. EVRQ is constructed based on a map region tree, 0–1 encoding, hash function, Bloom filter, and cryptographic multiset accumulator. Extensive experimental evaluations demonstrate the efficiency of EVRQ, and a comprehensive analysis confirms the security of EVRQ.

The heterogeneity of natural rocks complicates the study of carbon sequestration within these materials and raises concerns about the reproducibility of experimental results. Consequently, identifying appropriate rock-like materials has become critical. This research examined the impact of various factors—humidity, binder content, curing period, and cold pressure—on the bond strength of magnesium oxychloride cement (MOC) through orthogonal testing. The tests utilized a molar ratio of MgO to MgCl2-6H2O to H2O of 7:1:18. Both X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were employed to analyze the hydration reactions of MOC and to explore the correlation between the microstructure of the SiO2-MgO-MgCl2 system and its bonding characteristics. The findings indicated that a 5% relative humidity enhances the 7-day bond strength of MOC. Moreover, increasing the curing humidity to 60% relative humidity supports the ongoing hydration of the strength-contributing phases. A binder content ranging from 15% to 25% proved optimal, yielding samples with superior strength and stiffness. While cold pressing initially enhances the bonding properties of MOC, solution loss during the process adversely affects its long-term bonding characteristics. From a mechanical standpoint, the silica-magnesium oxide-magnesium chloride system demonstrates exceptional early strength and resilience, positioning it as a promising rock-like material system.

Anthropogenic stresses are intensively affecting the structure and function of microbial communities in coastal ecosystems. Despite being essential components of coastal ecosystems, the environmental influences and assembly processes of protist communities remain largely unknown in areas with severe disturbance. Here, we used 18S rRNA gene high-throughput sequencing to compare the composition, assembly process, and functional structure of the protist communities from the coastal areas of the Northern Yellow Sea (NYS) and the Eastern Bohai Sea (EBS). These two areas are separated by the Liaodong Peninsula and experience different anthropogenic stresses due to varying degrees of urbanization. We detected significant differences between the protist communities of the two areas. Environmental and geographic factors both influenced the composition of protist communities, with environmental factors playing a greater role. The neutral community model indicated that the assembly of protist communities was governed by deterministic processes, with stochastic processes having a stronger influence in the EBS area compared to the NYS area. The phototrophic and consumer communities, influenced by different environmental factors, differed significantly between the two areas. Our results provide insights into the biogeography and assembly of protist communities in estuaries under anthropogenic stresses, which may inform future coastal management.

Two-dimensional ultrasonic-assisted grinding (2D-UAG) has exhibited advantages in improving the machining quality of hard and brittle materials. However, the grinding mechanism in this process has not been thoroughly revealed due to the complicated material removal behaviors. In this study, multi-step 2D-UAG experiments of silicon carbide are conducted to investigate the effects of machining parameters on surface quality. The experimental results demonstrate that the tool amplitude and the workpiece amplitude have similar effects on surface roughness. In the rough grinding stage, the surface roughness decreases continuously with increasing ultrasonic amplitudes and the material is mainly removed by brittle fracture with different surface defects. Under semi-finishing and finishing grinding steps, the surface roughness first declines and then increases as the tool amplitude or workpiece amplitude grows from 0 μm to 8 μm and the inflection point appears around 4 μm. The surface damage contains small-sized pits with band-like distribution and localized grooves. Furthermore, the influences of cutting parameters on surface quality are similar to those in conventional grinding. Discussions of the underlying mechanisms for the experimental phenomena are also provided based on kinematic analysis. The conclusions gained in this study can provide references for the optimization of machining parameters in 2D-UAG of hard and brittle materials.

With the rapid development of industrialization and urbanization, the issue of soil environmental pollution is becoming more and more prominent, especially concerning heavy metal contamination, which has garnered significant scholarly attention. The surface watershed formed by waterline is influenced by various factors such as topography, industrial emissions, and agricultural runoff, resulting in a complex process of migration and accumulation of heavy metal elements from multiple sources. In this study, the pollution characteristics and sources of heavy metal elements Hg, As, Pb, Ni, Cd, Cr, Cu and Zn in 165 surface soil samples from the Manghe River watershed in Jiyuan City were comprehensively analyzed using a variety of methods, including statistics, geostatistics, enriched factor analysis and the Positive Matrix Factorization Model (PMF). The results showed that the concentrations of Hg, Cd, As, Cu, Pb and Zn exceeded their corresponding background values with varying degrees of enrichment. Notably, the average contents of Cd, Hg and Pb were 26.70 times, 3.69 times and 4.49 times higher than those in Chinese soils on average, respectively, showing obvious enrichment characteristics. Moreover, there were distinct spatial distribution patterns for each heavy metal element; Ni and Cr exhibited similar trends mainly controlled by the parent material, while human activities significantly affect the other six elements forming high-value areas around mining and related industries. It is noteworthy that Cu, Hg and Zn were influenced by dominant wind direction in autumn and winter, forming sub-high-value zones in southern forested areas; meanwhile, Cu and Zn were also influenced by agricultural fertilizer application as well as surface runoff, leading to secondary high-value areas in the dryland areas. Further analysis revealed a significant positive correlation among these heavy metal elements, suggesting that they may share common sources. Through the PMF Model, four main factors were identified, with factor 2 (36.25%), factor 1 (23.00%), factor 3 (21.20%) and factor 4 (19.55%) ranked in descending order of contribution rate. The heavy metal pollution in the study area was attributed to anthropogenic activities and natural factors, accounting for 63.75% and 36.25%, respectively. Coal mining, chemical industry smelting, vehicle emissions and excessive use of agrochemicals were identified as the main sources of heavy metal pollution. These pollutants entered the soil through direct emissions, atmospheric deposition, transportation and agricultural activities, exerting a significant impact on the soil environment. Therefore, delving into the spatial distribution pattern of soil heavy metal pollution and precise analysis of its sources are of great importance for effective treatment and remediation of soil heavy metal pollution in small watersheds, maintaining healthy soil ecology and safeguarding human health.

Quantitative assessment and trade-off/synergy analysis of land use multifunctions can effectively identify regional conflicts and dominant functions, providing decision support for promoting sustainable socio-economic and land use development. However, current research in this field still faces challenges due to coarse scale of studies and limited availability of accurate data. Taking Harbin City as a research case, this research employed an improved mutation level method, Pearson correlation analysis, and a multi-scale geographically weighted regression model to comprehensively investigate the profiling of land use multifunctions and their trade-off /synergy relationships. The comparative advantage theory was adopted to identify dominant functional zones using the NRCA index at a grid scale, in order to achieve a territorial spatial functional zoning delineation. The results showed that there were intricate trade-off/synergy relationships among production–living–ecology functions. Moreover, the types and intensity of trade-off/synergy evolved continuously with socio-economic development and regional resource endowment disparities. Due to its exceptional resource endowment, the agricultural dominated, urban dominated, and ecological dominated functional areas accounted for a significant proportion of 29%, 7%, and 26%, respectively. However, owing to the intricate trade-offs/synergies inherent in land use multifunctions, only a mere 2% (agricultural), 1% (urban), and 1% (ecological) of the area were identified as Optimization Guidance Zones. Conversely, Remediation Improvement Zones constituted the largest share at 63% of the total area, with agricultural, urban, and ecological Remediation Improvement Zones accounting for approximately 33%, 12%, and 18%, respectively. Based on the results of the type and intensity of trade-off/synergy among production–living–ecological functions, as well as the dominant zones and the integrated territorial spatial functional zoning delineation, this article provided targeted recommendations for the sustainable development of the region. These recommendations took into account both resource endowment and socio-economic development characteristics specific to the study area. The study aims to contribute to related research gaps, while providing valuable insights for other regional studies.

This study represents a significant advancement in structural health monitoring by integrating infrared thermography (IRT) with cutting-edge deep learning techniques, specifically through the use of the Mask R-CNN neural network. This approach targets the precise detection and segmentation of hidden defects within the interfacial layers of Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (FRP)-reinforced concrete structures. Employing a dual RGB and thermal camera setup, we captured and meticulously aligned image data, which were then annotated for semantic segmentation to train the deep learning model. The fusion of the RGB and thermal imaging significantly enhanced the model’s capabilities, achieving an average accuracy of 96.28% across a 5-fold cross-validation. The model demonstrated robust performance, consistently identifying true negatives with an average specificity of 96.78% and maintaining high precision at 96.42% in accurately delineating damaged areas. It also showed a high recall rate of 96.91%, effectively recognizing almost all actual cases of damage, which is crucial for the maintenance of structural integrity. The balanced precision and recall culminated in an average F1-score of 96.78%, highlighting the model’s effectiveness in comprehensive damage assessment. Overall, this synergistic approach of combining IRT and deep learning provides a powerful tool for the automated inspection and preservation of critical infrastructure components.

Background: Pediatric bronchiectasis is a common respiratory disease in children. The use of video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) for its treatment remains controversial. Objectives: The objective of our study was to compare and analyze the clinical efficacy of thoracoscopic surgery and thoracotomy in the treatment of pediatric bronchiectasis and summarize the surgical treatment experience of VATS in children with bronchiectasis. Design: Retrospective single-center cohort study. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 46 pediatric patients who underwent surgery with bronchiectasis at the Children’s Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from May 2015 to May 2023. The patients were divided into two groups: the VATS group (25 cases) and the thoracotomy group (21 cases). Comparative analysis was performed on various parameters including basic clinical data, surgical methods, operation time, intraoperative blood loss, transfusion status, postoperative pain, postoperative mechanical ventilation time, chest tube drainage time, length of hospital stay, incidence of complications, and follow-up information. Results: There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups of patients in terms of age, weight, gender, etiology, duration of symptoms, site of onset, and comorbidities ( p > 0.05). Abstract The application of biochar and nitrogen fertilizer can increase rice yield, soil organic carbon (SOC) storage and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. However, few studies have systematically evaluated the carbon footprint (CF) and net ecosystem economic benefits (NEEB) of paddy ecosystems under long‐term application of biochar and nitrogen fertilizer. Here, the life cycle assessment method was used to quantify the CF and NEEB of paddy fields under different biochar and nitrogen fertilizer application rates in 7 years. Three biochar rates of 0 (B0), 4.5 (B1) and 13.5 t ha−1 year−1 (B2) and two nitrogen fertilizer rates of 0 (N0) and 300 kg ha−1 year−1 (N) were set. The results showed that B2 significantly increased methane (CH4) emission by 38%, decreased nitrous oxide (N2O) emission by 29%, and significantly increased global warming potential by 27% compared with B0. Besides that, biochar application significantly increased ΔCSOC by 87%–173% and reduced CF by 1.6–1.8 Mg CO2 eq ha−1. Among them, CH4 and N2O emissions contributed 46%–95% of total GHG emissions, and the production and transportation of nitrogen fertilizer and biochar contributed 17%–52% of total GHG emissions. Nitrogen fertilizer application can significantly increase rice yield by 85% compared to the N0, which could bring the largest NEEB. Biochar application had a negative influence on the NEEB regardless of N application. This might be attributable to the fact that the economic gains from increased rice production and SOC caused by biochar cannot outweigh the high cost of biochar. These results suggest that the biochar application can significantly improve the SOC sequestration and reduce the CF, but also had negative effect on NEEB in paddy filed.

Alcohol consumption alters gut microflora and damages intestinal tight junction barriers, which may affect arsenic (As) oral bioavailability. In this study, mice were exposed to arsenate in the diet (6 μg/g) over a 3-week period and gavaged daily with Chinese liquor (0.05 or 0.10 mL per mouse per day). Following ingestion, 78.0% and 72.9% of the total As intake was absorbed and excreted via urine when co-exposed with liquor at daily doses of 0.05 or 0.10 mL, significantly greater than when As was supplied alone (44.7%). Alcohol co-exposure significantly altered gut microbiota but did not significantly alter As biotransformation in the intestinal tract or tissue. Significantly lower relative mRNA expression was observed for genes encoding for tight junctions in the ileum of liquor co-exposed mice, contributing to greater As bioavailability attributable to enhanced As absorption via the intestinal paracellular pathway. However, As concentration in the liver, kidney, and intestinal tissue of liquor-treated mice was decreased by 24.4%–42.6%, 27.5%–38.1%, and 28.1%–48.9% compared to control mice. This was likely due to greater renal glomerular filtration rate induced by alcohol, as suggested by significantly lower expression of genes encoding for renal tight junctions. In addition, in mice gavaged daily with 0.05 mL liquor, the serum antidiuretic hormone level was significantly lower than control mice (2.83 ± 0.59 vs. 5.40 ± 1.10 pg/mL), suggesting the diuretic function of alcohol consumption, which may facilitate As elimination via urine. These results highlight that alcohol consumption has a significant impact on the bioavailability and accumulation of As.

Abstract Diabetic retinopathy is one of the most common and serious microvascular complications of diabetes mellitus. There are many factors leading to diabetic retinopathy, and its pathogenesis is still unclear. At present, there are still no effective measures for the early treatment of diabetic retinopathy, and the treatment options available when diabetes progresses to advanced stages are very limited, and the treatment results are often unsatisfactory. Detailed studies on the molecular mechanisms of diabetic retinopathy pathogenesis and the development of new therapeutic agents are of great importance. This review describes the potential pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy for experimental studies and clinical practice.

Edible fungi were rich in nutrients and were potential sources of high-quality protein. In this study, nutritional components such as moisture, ash, protein, total sugar and L-ergothione in 18 kinds of edible fungi were analyzed, and headspace solid phase microextraction combined with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC-MS) were used to analyze the fruit-body, mycelium and fermentation broth of 6 edible fungi (Lentinula edodes, Agaricus bisporus, Coprinus comatus, Pleurotus eryngii, Auricularia heimuer and Ganoderma lucidum). The results showed that the water content of 18 edible fungi ranged from 6.7 to 13.77 g/100 g, ash content from 2.24 to 10.9 g/100 g, fat content from 0.3 to 2.92 g/100 g and total sugar content from 2.11 to 10.5 g/100 g. The crude protein content of 18 edible fungi ranged from 7.88 to 35.87 g/100 g, among which the protein content of Agaricus bisporus was as high as 35.87 g/100 g. There was no significant difference in the content of other nutrients. The amino acids were rich and contained 8 kinds of essential amino acids necessary for human body. Principal component analysis showed that the amino acid composition ratio of Lentinula edodes, Auricularia heimuer, Grifola frondosa, Volvariella volvacea, and Flammulina velutipes was most similar to that of egg, but significantly different from that of meat, soybeans and wheat. The results of high performance liquid chromatography showed that Lentinula edodes was rich in ergothioneine, and the content was up to 336 mg/kg. The ergothioneine content of edible fungi such as Grifola frondosa, Morchella, Agaricus bisporus and Coprinus comatus were also higher than 100 mg/kg. A total of 34 volatile compounds, including aldehydes, ketones, esters, alcohols, phenols, ethers, alkanes and heterocyclic compounds, were identified by HS-SPME-GC-MS in 6 edible fungi. Ganoderma lucidum mycelium was rich in hexal, methylnonylketone, trans-2-octenal, 2-n-amylfuran, 2,4-nononadienal and other volatile compounds, which were significantly different from the other 17 samples. The flavor substances of the fermentation broth of the six edible fungi were similar, and all of them had special flavor substances such as ethyl heptanate and 18-crown-6. Pleurotus eryngii mycelium and the fruiting bodies of Ganoderma lucidum and Coprinus comatus contained butylated hydroxytoluene, methyl benzoate and other unique substances. This study provides data basis for the development of high value edible fungi by analyzing the nutritional components and flavor substances of common edible fungi.

Abstract Chronic apical periodontitis is a prevalent oral disease characterized by bone loss, and its underlying mechanisms remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate the role and mechanism of the serine protease GZMA in osteoclasts during chronic apical periodontitis. To address this, we employed crRNA/Cas13d to inhibit GZMA expression and examined its impact on osteoclast behavior. Our findings revealed that GZMA plays a significant role in promoting osteoclast cell proliferation while inhibiting cell apoptosis. Additionally, the inhibition of GZMA led to a notable increase in miR-25-3p expression, which, in turn, downregulated the expression of TGF-β. Consequently, the reduction in TGF-β expression led to a decrease in PAR1 expression within the PARs pathway. These results suggest that GZMA might serve as a promising therapeutic target for the treatment of chronic apical periodontitis. Furthermore, our study highlights the potential of targeting GZMA using crRNA/Cas13d as a valuable approach for future therapeutic interventions.

The white Hypsizygus marmoreu has good flavor and nutrition, and is rich in protein. To fully develop the white Hypsizygus marmoreu protein resources, protein was extracted by traditional alkali method and ultrasonic assisted method. The protein’s physicochemical properties such as oil absorption, water holding, solubility, foamability, emulsification were analyzed. The results showed that ultrasound-assisted extraction increased the extraction rate of protein to 31.4%, which was 8% higher than the traditional alkaline method. Thermal experiments showed that the maximum weight loss rate of protein extracted by ultrasound was 311.4 ℃, and that of protein extracted by traditional alkali was 334.8 ℃. Fourier transform infrared analysis showed that the α-spiral structure decreased while the irregular curly structure increased for the protein extracted by traditional alkali method. Compared with the soybean protein isolate (SPI), at non neutral pH or the salt ion concentration of 0.5 mol/L, there was no significant difference for the emulsifying ability and stability between white Hypsizygus marmoreu protein and SPI. At the same pH, there was no significant difference in water retention and emulsification stability between the two extraction processes. At the same NaCl concentration, no significant difference was observed between the solubility, foam stability and emulsification stability. Within 25~65 ℃, the oil absorption and foaming stability of white Hypsizygus marmoreu protein showed no significant difference between that of SPI. In this range, the solubility and foamability of white Hypsizygus marmoreu protein increased firstly and then decreased with the change of temperature.

Bamboo is a typical natural fiber-reinforced composite with excellent mechanical properties, which are determined by its special micro-structure. As the reinforcing phase, the vascular bundles play a central role in the control of the mechanical properties of bamboo macro-structure. To find the exact gradient variation of the mechanical properties of these continuously distributed vascular bundles within the bamboo culm, 4-year-old Moso bamboo was chosen to investigate the variation of locate-distribution, cross-section area, and mechanical properties of single vascular bundles along the longitudinal and radial directions with respect to their location from the base, middle, and top sections of bamboo culm, respectively. It shows that the spatial distribution of vascular bundles along the column is distributed exponentially from the inside to the outside of the culm. The cross-section area of the vascular bundles decreased exponentially from the inside to the outside along the radial direction. All the vascular bundles were then carefully separated from bamboo strips and tested via the tensile tests. Test results show that the longitudinal tensile strengths of vascular bundles ranged from 180.44 to 774.10 MPa, and the longitudinal Young’s modulus ranged from 9.00 to 44.76 GPa. The tensile strength of vascular bundles at the outer side was three times higher than that of the inner side, while Young’s modulus at the outer side was three to four times higher than that of the inner side. For all three height positions, the strengths and Young’s modulus of vascular bundles are all exponentially increased from the inner side to the outer side along the radial direction. This work will provide a basis for the highly processed product’s application of bamboo resources and a reference for further study on the trans-scale analysis of the mechanical properties of bamboo.

Semiconductor nanorods (NRs) have great potential in optoelectronic devices for their unique linearly polarized luminescence which can break the external quantum efficiency limit of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) based on spherical quantum dots. Significant progress has been made for developing red, green, and blue light-emitting NRs. However, the synthesis of NRs emitting in the deep red region, which can be used for accurate red LED displays and promoting plant growth, is currently less explored. Here, we report the synthesis of deep red CdSeTe/CdZnS/ZnS dot-in-rod core/shell NRs via a seeded growth method, where the doping of Te in the CdSe core can extend the NR emission to the deep red region. The rod-shaped CdZnS shell is grown over CdSeTe seeds. By growing a ZnS passivation shell, the CdSeTe/CdZnS/ZnS NRs exhibit a photoluminescence emission peak at 670 nm, a full width at a half maximum of 61 nm and a photoluminescence quantum yield of 45%. The development of deep red NRs can greatly extend the applications of anisotropic nanocrystals.

Reservoir sensitivity is a parameter that is used to evaluate the degree of change in reservoir permeability under the influence of external fluids. Accurate evaluation of reservoir sensitivity is conducive to the optimization of fluid parameters during exploration and development. Taking the Wenchang Formation and Enping Formation of the Paleogene in the Huilu area of the Pearl River Mouth Basin as the research object, reservoir sensitivity experiments were carried out. Combined with the corresponding experimental results obtained using methods such as thin section identification, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP), and screening analysis, based on mineral sensitization and pore structure sensitization, qualitative and quantitative evaluations of reservoir sensitivity were carried out, and factors affecting sensitivity and sensitization mechanisms were analyzed. This work shows the following: (1) The sandstone reservoirs in the two areas have the same clay type, but the total clay content of the Wenchang Formation is greater than that of the Enping Formation. The porosity of the Wenchang Formation is less developed than the Enping Formation. (2) The Wenchang Formation has weak or moderately weak water sensitivity and moderately weak or moderately strong flow velocity sensitivity. The water sensitivity of the Enping Group samples is moderately weak or moderately strong, the flow rate sensitivity is moderately weak, the alkali sensitivity is weak, the acid sensitivity is moderately weak, and the salinity sensitivity is moderately weak or moderately strong. (3) The sensitivity of the Wenchang Formation is mainly affected by the content of clay minerals. The sensitivity of the Enping Formation is also affected by the clay content and type. Although the clay content is not high, the permeability is more susceptible to sensitivity due to the pore structure and debris particle distribution characteristics. These conclusions are beneficial for the selection of fluid parameters and efficient reservoir development.

Postharvest rot is an urgent problem affecting the storage of winter jujube. Therefore, the development of new technologies for efficient and safe preservation is very important. This study aimed to elucidate the fungal microbiota found on the epidermis of jujube during the storage period using high-throughput sequencing, as well as to monitor the changes in quality indexes throughout this period. Through internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequencing, we identified two phyla (Basidiomycota and Ascomycota) and six genera (Cryptococcus, Bulleromyces, Sporidiobolus, Alternaria, Pseudozyma, and Sporobolomyces), which potentially contribute to the spoilage and deterioration of jujube, referred to as “core fungal taxa”. A high correlation was further found between preservation indices (including decay rate, firmness, and total soluble solids) and the growth of multiple core fungi over time. These findings will provide insights and a theoretical basis for further research on preservation techniques related to biological control during date fruit storage.

Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is one of the most prevalent and dose-limiting complications in chemotherapy patients. One identified mechanism underlying CIPN is neuroinflammation. Most of this research has been conducted in only male or female rodent models, making direct comparisons regarding the role of sex differences in the neuroimmune underpinnings of CIPN limited. Moreover, most measurements have focused on the dorsal root ganglia (DRG) and/or spinal cord, while relatively few studies have been aimed at characterizing neuroinflammation in the brain, for example the periaqueductal grey (PAG). The overall goals of the present study were to determine (1) paclitaxel-associated changes in markers of inflammation in the PAG and DRG in male and female C57Bl6 mice and (2) determine the effect of prophylactic administration of an anti-inflammatory cannabinoid, cannabigerol (CBG). In Experiment 1, male and female mice were treated with paclitaxel (8–32 mg/kg/injection, Days 1, 3, 5, and 7) and mechanical sensitivity was measured using Von Frey filaments on Day 7 (Cohort 1) and Day 14 (Cohort 2). Cohorts were euthanized on Day 8 or 15, respectively, and DRG and PAG were harvested for qPCR analysis of the gene expression of markers of pain and inflammation Aig1, Gfap, Ccl2, Cxcl9, Tlr4, Il6, and Calca. In Experiment 2, male and female mice were treated with vehicle or 10 mg/kg CBG i.p. 30 min prior to each paclitaxel injection. Mechanical sensitivity was measured on Day 14. Mice were euthanized on Day 15, and PAG were harvested for qPCR analysis of the gene expression of Aig1, Gfap, Ccl2, Cxcl9, Tlr4, Il6, and Calca. Paclitaxel produced a transient increase in potency to produce mechanical sensitivity in male versus female mice. Regarding neuroinflammation, more gene expression changes were apparent earlier in the DRG and at a later time point in the PAG. Also, more changes were observed in females in the PAG than males. Overall, sex differences were observed for most markers at both time points and regions. Importantly, in both the DRG and PAG, most increases in markers of neuroinflammation and pain occurred at paclitaxel doses higher than those associated with significant changes in the mechanical threshold. Two analytes that demonstrated the most compelling sexual dimorphism and that changed more in males were Cxcl9 and Ccl2, and Tlr4 in females. Lastly, prophylactic administration of CBG protected the male and female mice from increased mechanical sensitivity and female mice from neuroinflammation in the PAG. Future studies are warranted to explore how these sex differences may shed light on the mechanisms of CIPN and how non-psychoactive cannabinoids such as CBG may engage these targets to prevent or attenuate the effects of paclitaxel and other chemotherapeutic agents on the nervous system.

By comparing the separation effects and applicability of Ag+-thin layer chromatography (Ag+-TLC) and column chromatography on aromatic hydrocarbons with different ring numbers in crude oil, this article aims to provide theoretical support for the quantitative analysis of aromatics and isotope analysis of monomer hydrocarbon in organic geochemical research. The results showed that Ag+-TLC can better enrich monocyclic aromatics and differentiate the monocyclic aromatics of different isomers into different components, but has a poor effect in enriching palycyclic aromatics, which may lead to severe losses and possible peak interference. Column chromatography has better separation effects on dinuclear and polycyclic aromatic compounds. Therefore, Ag+-TLC, suitable for the fine separation of monocyclic aromatics, can be used to enrich alkylbenzenes and aryl isoprenoids, and meets the detection requirements for measuring their monomer hydrocarbon isotopes; while column chromatography can effectively enrich series of compounds such as naphthalene, phenanthrene, and triaromatic steroids, and meets the requirements for detecting the separating degree of monomeric hydrocarbon isotopes.

Abstract Intracranial pressure (ICP) is one of the most important indexes in neurosurgery. It is essential for doctors to determine the numeric value and changes of ICP, whether before or after an operation. Although external ventricular drainage (EVD) is the gold standard for monitoring ICP, more and more novel monitoring methods are being applied clinically. Invasive wired ICP monitoring is still the most commonly used in practice. Meanwhile, with the rise and development of various novel technologies, non-invasive types and invasive wireless types are gradually being used clinically or in the testing phase, as a complimentary approach of ICP management. By choosing appropriate monitoring methods, clinical neurosurgeons are able to obtain ICP values safely and effectively under particular conditions. This article introduces diverse monitoring methods and compares the advantages and disadvantages of different monitoring methods. Moreover, this review may enable clinical neurosurgeons to have a broader view of ICP monitoring.

Abstract Objectives A retrospective study was performed to summarize the experience of transcatheter closure of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) through the right femoral vein under the guidance of transesophageal echocardiography (TEE). Methods From January 2019 to September 2021, 75 children who underwent PDA closure through the right femoral vein under the guidance of TEE were included. The guide wire and delivery sheath were inserted through the ductus arteriosus into the descending aorta via the right femoral vein, and the occluder was subsequently deployed. After discharge, all patients were required for outpatient follow-ups at 1, 3, 6 and 12 months. Results In this group, patients were older than 10 months of age and body weight greater than 8 kg. Among 75 cases with PDA, 63 were tubular type and 12 were conical type. The mean operative time was 40.2 ± 7.3 min. The size of PDA occluder ranged from 4–6 to 12–14 mm. The mean hospital stay was 5.5 ± 0.5 days. One month after discharge, there were 4 cases with a mild residual shunt. Eventually, the residual shunt was not observed during 3, 6, and 12 months of follow-up. Conclusions PDA closure under the guidance of TEE can be performed through the right femoral vein successfully and effectively. This procedure has no contrast agent usage, radiation exposure, or open incisions.

Abstract With the advancement of micro/nanotechnologies, multielectrodes arrays (MEAs) with different three‐dimensional (3D) micro/nanostructures have been developed to achieve intracellular action potential recording of cardiomyocytes. However, the effect of the 3D micro/nanostructures density on the intracellular recording has not been fully investigated. In this work, 3D tunable nanodensity electrode arrays (TNDEA) are fabricated by hydrothermal synthesis and standard microfabrication to explore the effect of nanodensity regulation on intracellular biosensing. By low‐voltage electroporation, the signal quality of intracellular potentials recorded by the low‐nanodensity TNDEA showed was significantly improved compared to those recorded by the high‐nanodensity TNDEA. The low‐nanodensity TNDEA improved the amplitude (up to 7.7 mV), signal‐to‐noise ratio (SNR) (up to 69.46 dB), recording duration (up to 83 min), and recording yield (∼100%). The 3D nanodensity regulating strategy has achieved sensitive and prolonged intracellular biosensing of action potentials and is expected to be a powerful electrophysiological research tool in the biomedical field.

AbstractBackground Chronic kidney disease-associated pruritus (CKD-aP) is very common and sometimes refractory to treatment in hemodialysis patients. In a trial conducted in Japan, nalfurafine, effectively reduced itching of treatment-resistant CKD-aP. Our present bridging study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of nalfurafine in Chinese cohort with refractory CKD-aP.Methods In this phase III, multicenter bridging study conducted at 22 sites in China, 141 Chinese cases with refractory CKD-aP were randomly (2:2:1) assigned to receive 5 μg, 2.5 μg of nalfurafine or a placebo orally for 14 days in a double-blind manner. The primary end point was the mean decrease in the mean visual analogue scale (VAS) from baseline.Results A total of 141 patients were included. The primary endpoint analysis based on full analysis set (FAS), the difference of mean VAS decrease between 5 μg nalfurafine and placebo group was 11.37 mm (p = .041); the difference of mean VAS decrease between 2.5 μg and placebo group was 8.81 mm (p = .110). Both differences were greater than 4.13 mm, which met its predefined success criterion of at least 50% efficacy of the key Japanese clinical trial. The per protocol set (PPS) analysis got similar results. The incidence of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) was 49.1% in 5μg, 38.6% in 2.5 μg and 33.3% in placebo group. The most common ADR was insomnia, seen in 21 of the 114 nalfurafine patients.Conclusions Oral nalfurafine effectively reduced itching with few significant ADRs in Chinese hemodialysis patients with refractory pruritus.
