Multimode fibers (MMFs) support abundant spatial modes and involve rich spatiotemporal dynamics, yielding many promising applications. Here, we investigate the influences of the number and initial energy of high-order modes (HOMs) on the energy flow from the intermediate modes (IMs) to the fundamental mode (FM) and HOMs. It is quite surprising that random distribution of high-order modes evolves to a stationary one, indicating the asymptotic behavior of orbits in the same attraction domain. By employing the Lyapunov exponent, we prove that the threshold of the HOMs-attractor is consistent with the transition point of the energy flow which indiactes the HOMs-attracotr acts as a "valve" in the modal energy flow. Our results provide a new perspective to explore the nonlinear phenomena in MMFs, such as Kerr self-cleaning, and may pave the way to some potential applications, such as secure communications in MMFs.

An perturbation-iteration method is developed for the computation of the Hermite-Gaussian-like solitons with arbitrary peak numbers in nonlocal nonlinear media. This method is based on the perturbed model of the Schr\"{o}dinger equation for the harmonic oscillator, in which the minimum perturbation is obtained by the iteration. This method takes a few tens of iteration loops to achieve enough high accuracy, and the initial condition is fixed to the Hermite-Gaussian function. The method we developed might also be extended to the numerical integration of the Schr\"{o}dinger equations in any type of potentials.

It is shown that the unstable evolutions of the Hermite-Gauss-type stationary solutions for the nonlocal nonlinear Schrodinger equation with the exponential-decay response function can evolve into chaotic states. This new kind of entities are referred to as chaoticons because they exhibit not only chaotic properties (with positive Lyapunov exponents and spatial decoherence) but also soliton-like properties (with invariant statistic width and interaction of quasi-elastic collisions)., Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures, and 45 references

We discuss the modulational instability (MI) of plane waves in nonlocal Kerr media with the sine-oscillation response function, which can model the nematic liquid crystal with negative dielectric anisotropy. The results in the framework of the nonlocal nonlinear Schr\"{o}dinger equation show that the MI in this system has two extraordinary properties. First, MI exists in both cases of negative Kerr coefficient $(n_{2}<0)$ and positive Kerr coefficient $(n_{2}>0)$. Second, the maximum gain of MI is not affected by the intensity of the plane wave, and the wave number %spatial frequency of the maximum gain depends on the oscillation period of the response function. We also explore, for the first time to the best of our knowledge, the physical mechanism of MI in the framework of the four-wave mixing (FWM). %FWM interaction. By introducing a phase mismatch term $\triangle k$ and a (nonlinear) growth factor $\gamma$ (both of them have clear physical meanings), we find that the necessary and sufficient condition for the MI appearance is that the phase mismatching during the FWM process should be small enough such that $|\triangle k|<2|\gamma|$. Basing on the discover, we present a new scenario to uniformly and consistently explain why the MI can happen for the focusing local Kerr media and cannot for the defocusing local Kerr media, as well as the MI phenomena in the nonlocal cases.

We reveal the relevance between the nonlocality and the focusing/defocusing states in nonlocally nonlinear media, and predict a novel phenomenon that the self-focusing/self-defocusing property of the optical beam in the nonlocally nonlinear medium with a sine-oscillation response function depends on its degree of nonlocality. The transition from the focusing nonlinearity to the defocusing nonlinearity of the nonlinear refractive index will happen when the degree of nonlocality of the system goes cross a critical value, and vise verse. Bright and dark soliton solutions are obtained, respectively, in the focusing state and in the defocusing state, and their stabilities are also discussed. It is mentioned that such a phenomenon might be experimentally realized in the nematic liquid crystal with negative dielectric anisotropy or in the quadratic nonlinear medium., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures

The role of the Coulomb potential on the generation of elliptically polarized high-order harmonics from atoms driven by elliptically polarized laser is investigated analytically. It is found that the Coulomb effect makes a contribution to the harmonic ellipticity for low harmonic orders and short quantum path. By using the strong-field eikonal-Volkov approximation, we analyze the influence of the Coulomb potential on the dynamics of the continuum state and find that the obtained harmonic ellipticity in our simulation originates from the break of symmetry of the continuum state., Comment: 4 figures, 10 pages

We investigate the polarization properties of high harmonic generation from polar molecules with a linearly polarized field. It is found that elliptically polarized harmonics are observed in a wide spectral range from the plateau to the cutoff. Further analyses show that the nonsymmetric structure of the highest occupied molecular orbital is the origin of ellipticity of the harmonics. The results provide a method for generation of large-ellipticity XUV pulses, which will benefit the application of HHG as a tool of detection in materials and biology science., Comment: 9 pages

We theoretically investigate the laser wavelength dependence of asymmetric dissociation of H$_2^+$. It is found that the electron localization in molecular dissociation is significantly manipulated by varying the wavelength of the driving field. Through creating a strong nuclear vibration in the laser-molecular interaction, our simulations demonstrate that the few-cycle mid-infrared pulse can effectively localize the electron at one of the dissociating nuclei with weak ionization. Moreover, we show that the observed phase-shift of the dissociation asymmetry is attributed to the different population transfers by the remaining fields after the internuclear distances reach the one-photon coupling point., Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures

The electron localization in the dissociation of the asymmetric charged molecular ion HeH$^{2+}$ exposed to an intense few-cycle laser pulse is studied by solving numerically the 3D time-dependent Schr\"odinger equation. By varying the carrier-envelope phase (CEP) and the intensity of the pulse, the upward shift of the localization probability and the suppression of the dissociation channel He$^{2+}$+H are observed . Our analysis shows that the phenomenon is attributed to the asymmetric structure of the molecule as well as the recollision-assistant field-induced ionization of the electron wave packets localized on H$^+$ in the trailing of the pulse.

Photoelectron angular distributions (PADs) of oriented polar molecules in response to different polarized lasers are systematically investigated. It is found that the PADs of polar CO molecules show three distinct styles excited by linearly, elliptically and circularly polarized lasers respectively. In the case of elliptical polarization, a deep suppression is observed along the major axis and the distribution concentrates approximately along the minor axis. Additionally, it is also found that the concentrated distributions rotate clockwise as the ellipticity increases. Our investigation presents a method to manipulate the motion and angular distribution of photoelectrons by varying the polarization of the exciting pulses, and also implies the possibility to control the processes in laser-molecule interactions in future work., Comment: 12 pages and 7 figures

The generation of isolated attosecond pulses with high efficiency and high beam quality is essential for attosec- ond spectroscopy. We numerically investigate the supercontinuum generation in a neutral rare-gas medium driven by a two-color Bessel-Gauss beam. The results show that an efficient smooth supercontinuum in the plateau is obtained after propagation, and the spatial profile of the generated attosecond pulse is Gaussian-like with the divergence angle of 0.1 degree in the far field. This bright source with high beam quality is beneficial for detecting and controlling the microscopic processes on attosecond time scale., Comment: 3 pages, 3 figures
