Purpose: Mental health (MH) conditions are common in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) due to the unique challenges these patients encounter. The primary aim was to investigate predictors of new onset MH conditions after a diagnosis of CRC and determine the association of new MH conditions on survival. Methods: A single institution, retrospective study was conducted. A multivariable Fine-Gray competing risks model was used to describe the primary study outcome of new MH diagnosis in patients at least 18 years of age with CRC. Survival was modeled using Cox proportional hazards regression with a time-varying covariate for new MH diagnosis. Results: 456 patients were identified for inclusion, with 16% developing a new MH condition and 29% dying during follow-up. A new MH condition was more likely among non-Hispanic white patients compared to non-Hispanic black and were less likely among those who are male or had a pre-cancer MH condition. The onset of a new MH condition was associated with a threefold decrease in survival. In addition, having a pre-cancer MH condition decreased survival nearly twofold. Conclusions: Our findings emphasize the importance of new-onset MH in patients after CRC diagnosis. Standardized screenings may alleviate some of the MH burden that patients with CRC experience in addition to potentially improving the overall health of patients. Implications for Cancer Survivors. MH conditions may impact not only CRC outcomes but may direct future studies analyzing the risks of new onset MH conditions in other types of cancers, further expanding the importance of psychiatric support in patients with cancer. The primary goal of this study is to assess current patient information available on the internet concerning robotic colorectal surgery. Acquiring this information will aid in patients understanding of robotic colorectal surgery. Data was acquired through a web-scraping algorithm. The algorithm used two Python packages: Beautiful Soup and Selenium. The long-chain keywords incorporated into Google, Bing and Yahoo search engines were 'Da Vinci Colon-Rectal Surgery', 'Colorectal Robotic Surgery' and 'Robotic Bowel Surgery'. 207 websites resulted, were sorted and evaluated according to the ensuring quality information for patients (EQIP) score. Of the 207 websites visited, 49 belonged to the subgroup of hospital websites (23.6%), 46 to medical centers (22.2%), 45 to practitioners (21.7%), 42 to health care systems (20,2%), 11 to news services (5.3%), 7 to web portals (3.3%), 5 to industry (2.4%), and 2 to patient groups (0.9%). Only 52 of the 207 websites received a high rating. The quality of available information on the internet concerning robotic colorectal surgery is low. The majority of information was inaccurate. Medical facilities involved in robotic colorectal surgery, robotic bowel surgery and related robotic procedures should develop websites with credible information to guide patient decisions. Background: There are approximately 44 180 new cases of rectal cancer diagnosed annually. While surgical resection remains the standard of care for definitive treatment, neoadjuvant chemoradiation therapy (NCRT) has significantly reduced recurrence rates postoperatively. NCRT is indicated for T3/T4 tumors, and relative indications include patients with T1/T2 lesions with clinically positive nodes. While this remains the standard of care, all patients may not receive equal treatment for their rectal cancer depending on various healthcare disparities. We aimed to discover how insurance status affected rectal cancer patients' time of diagnosis to treatment, age of diagnosis, and overall vitality. Methods: A single-center retrospective chart and cancer registry review was performed for all patients diagnosed with rectal cancer of any stage between 2011 and 2018. A total of 94 rectal cancer patients were included in the analysis. Age, race, sex, insurance status, vitality, and grade were assessed. Time in days of diagnosis to the time of first treatment (neoadjuvant chemotherapy or radiation) was measured. Continuous variables were reported as means and SDs or medians and interquartile ranges and were analyzed with the unpaired t-test or Mann-Whitney U-test. Categorical variables were reported as frequencies and percentages and were analyzed with Fisher's exact test. Statistical significance was determined with a P < .05. All analyses were conducted using SAS version 9.4 (SAS Institute, Cary, NC, USA). Results: Total race breakdown was as follows: white (61%), African-American (30%), and other (3%). There was no statistically significant difference in diagnosis time to first treatment in the uninsured versus insured groups (P = .9). There was a statistically significant difference in the age of diagnosis with insured mean age of 60.9 years and uninsured mean age of 52.4 years (P = .0080). There was no statistically significant difference in survival between the 2 groups (P = .54). For those who went onto have surgery, there was no difference in the median number of lymph nodes harvested between the 2 groups (P = .73). Conclusion: Insurance status did not affect timing to treatment or survival. Uninsured patients had a younger age of diagnosis by approximately 8 years on average. Uninsured patients received the same quality surgeries as uninsured patients in regard to lymph node harvests. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A case study is presented of a 47-year-old woman presented for evaluation of a pre- sacral mass. Pathology showed a moderately differentiated col-orectal adenocarcinoma with no evidence of lymphovascular invasion, and a positron emission tomography scan was also obtained which confirmed clorectal cancer presenting as a presacral mass.

Background and Objectives: Although resection of colorectal liver metastases (CRLM) improves survival, factors including race and health insurance are associated with disparities in care. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of health insurance on racial disparities in CRLM resection., Methods: A retrospective study of patients with CRC with synchronous CRLM was performed using the National Cancer Database (2004-2020). The primary outcome was resection liver resection. Multivariable logistic regression (MVR) was performed to evaluate the association of race and insurance with the odds of resection., Results: Forty-four thousand and six hundred sixteen patients were included. Resection rates were lower among Blacks compared to White patients (12.9% vs. 17.3%). By MVR, Black patients (OR 0.76 vs. White), uninsured and Medicaid-insured patients (OR 0.49 and OR 0.71 vs. private insurance) were less likely to undergo resection. On MVR of race stratified by insurance, Black patients with private and Medicare insurance had decreased odds of resection compared to White (OR 0.71 and OR 0.64)., Conclusions: Although Black patients with CRLM have lower odds of hepatic resection compared to White, when stratified by insurance, this was only present among private- and Medicare-insured.
