The RECIPES guidance advises on how to deal responsibly with uncertain risks in the development and implementation of technology in the EU. It helps EU risk regulation and innovation policy to use the precautionary principle for responsible technological innovation. Target groups of this guidance are primarily EU policy makers, EU agencies, and EU policy support organisations and bodies that are concerned with risk regulation or the governance of science, technology and innovation. The guidance offers them ideas about how to further improve addressing uncertain risks in EU risk regulation and innovation policy. The guidance also addresses researchers and innovators and the multitude of societal actors who can contribute to a society-wide innovation system. The guidance illustrates these target groups that their contributions are needed for applying the precautionary principle for responsible technological innovation.

Background Validation studies of the 2019 European Society of Cardiology pre-test probability model (ESC-PTP) for coronary artery disease (CAD) report that 35–40% of patients have intermediate pre-test risk (ESC-PTP 5- Acoustic detections of coronary stenosis are a new technology which could potentially be useful to supplement PTP stratification. One of the devices, the CADScor®System, has been shown to down-classify >40% of patients to low risk without increasing CAD prevalence. However, the clinical utility of using the CADScor algorithm (version (V)3.1) has not be validated. Purpose 1) To validate the diagnostic performance of the CADScor®System (V3.1), and 2) to study the reclassification potential of a clinical likelihood strategy by ESC-PTP estimation supplemented by a CAD-score. Methods In total, 1732 patients without known CAD but with symptoms suggestive hereof underwent coronary CTA as a first-line diagnostic test. Based on an interview prior to coronary CTA, the ESC-PTP model was applied and sound recordings were performed using the acoustic CADScor® System. Patients with a suspected >50% diameter stenosis in any coronary segment at coronary CTA were referred to investigation with Invasive angiography (ICA) with measurement of Fractional flow reserve (FFR). The ESC-PTP risk estimation was divided according to the recommended cut-offs of 15% PTP of obstructive CAD. Haemodynamically obstructive CAD was defined as: (1) FFR value 90%, or (3) luminal diameter stenosis reduction ≥50% if FFR was indicated but not performed. A predefined cut-off value of 20 was used for CAD-score values to rule-out CAD. Results A suspected stenosis was found in 439 patients (26%) after coronary CTA. The follow up with ICA with FFR showed significant stenoses in 198 patients (12%). In the entire cohort using the ≤20 CAD-score cutoff for CAD rule-out, sensitivity was 85.3% (95% CI 79.5–89.9%), specificity was 40.3% (95% CI 37.8–42.9%), the PPV was 5.9% (95% CI 13.8–18.3%)), and the NPV was 95.4% (95% CI 93.4–96.9%). Hence, the disease prevalence of obstructive CAD was 4.6% in the ruled-out patients. Applying the ≤20 CAD-score cutoff for CAD rule-out in intermediate risk patients (ESC-PTP 5- Conclusion Having high NPV, the CADscor holds excellent rule-out power. Interestingly, the CADscor has reclassification properties in intermediate CAD risk patients where almost 50% can be deferred form further testing without increasing obstructive CAD risk. This report of the EU funded project entitled REconciling sCience, Innovation and Precaution through the Engagement of Stakeholders (RECIPES) will compare the results of the inter-case study analysis with the results of WP1. First, the results of the WP1 Taking stock as a basis for the effect of the precautionary principle since 2000 are synthesized and compared with the likewise synthesized results of the comparative multiple case study analysis2. Second, the report gives an account of the scenario development and the co-creation process. Third, inconsistencies and conflict categories identified in WP1 and the multiple case study analysis are discussed in the context of responsible governance of technologies. Finally, links between identified inconsistencies in WP1 and categories of conflicts in WP2 are discussed.

This Consensus Document is the first of two reports summarizing the views of an expert panel organized by the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions (EAPCI) on the clinical use of intracoronary imaging including intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and optical coherence tomography (OCT). The first document appraises the role of intracoronary imaging to guide percutaneous coronary interventions (PCIs) in clinical practice. Current evidence regarding the impact of intracoronary imaging guidance on cardiovascular outcomes is summarized, and patients or lesions most likely to derive clinical benefit from an imaging-guided intervention are identified. The relevance of the use of IVUS or OCT prior to PCI for optimizing stent sizing (stent length and diameter) and planning the procedural strategy is discussed. Regarding post-implantation imaging, the consensus group recommends key parameters that characterize an optimal PCI result and provides cut-offs to guide corrective measures and optimize the stenting result. Moreover, routine performance of intracoronary imaging in patients with stent failure (restenosis or stent thrombosis) is recommended. Finally, strengths and limitations of IVUS and OCT for guiding PCI and assessing stent failures and areas that warrant further research are critically discussed.

36th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition; 205-207, Solar cell efficiency has undergone rapid development in recent years. Both-side contacted singlejunction devices are reaching the limits of physical performance. Interdigitated back-contact (IBC) solar cells are then the logical next step towards ever-higher performances, but high manufacturing costs have held back adoption of this promising technology. This paper presents our solution: Reaching very high efficiencies via an industrial ten-step low cost process on Cz material, and its key requirements: Excellent passivation and low contact resistance. We have produced tunnel IBC heterojunction solar cells with a very large pitch of over two millimetres. Thanks to high passivation quality, a damage-less shadow masking process and low contact resistance we achieve excellent performances of above 25% conversion efficiency. We will show how some passivation defects are only revealed after the deposition of the tunnel contact, and how contact resistance depends on the thickness of the TCO layer used, both for electron and hole contacts. We have successfully transferred the tunnel IBC process from Fz to Cz material, using industrial wafer thicknesses and have managed to scale-up to full M2 cell size. With the right metallisation, bifacial IBC cells with over 79% bifaciality have been produced, with a conversion efficiency of 22.9%.

36th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition; 300-303, Silicon heterojunction technology (HJT) for mass production frequently meets reservations related to the performance and cost constraints the standard TCO on the cell front side namely indium tin oxide (ITO) constitutes. We address and mitigate these concerns with our HJT 2.0 concept in which the front electrode is made of a bi-layer of much thinner ITO that is supplemented by a silicon nitride (SiN) layer. This cell concept was developed to yield an improvement in device efficiency of typically 0.2% absolute due to increased cell current and a considerable cost saving of around 0.5ct$/Wp with respect to cost of ownership (CoO) for the module.
