3. A Track-Before-Detect Approach to Multi-Target Tracking on Automotive Radar Sensor Data

Abstract

In recent years, Bayes filter methods in the labeled random finite set formulation have become increasingly powerful in the multi-target tracking domain. One of the latest outcomes is the Generalized Labeled Multi-Bernoulli (GLMB) filter which allows for stable cardinality and target state estimation as well as target identification in a unified framework. In contrast to the initial context of the GLMB filter, this paper makes use of it in the Track-Before-Detect (TBD) scheme and thus, avoids information loss due to thresholding and other data preprocessing steps. This paper provides a TBD GLMB filter design under the separable likelihood assumption that can be applied to real world scenarios and data in the automotive radar context. Its applicability to real sensor data is demonstrated in an exemplary scenario. Abstract

Accurate simulation and validation of advanced driver assistance systems requires accurate sensor models. Modeling automotive radar is complicated by effects such as multipath reflections, interference, reflective surfaces, discrete cells, and attenuation. Detailed radar simulations based on physical principles exist but are computationally intractable for realistic automotive scenes. This paper describes a methodology for the construction of stochastic automotive radar models based on deep learning with adversarial loss connected to real-world data. 18. Kepler's Differential Equations

Abstract

Although the differential calculus was invented by Newton, Kepler established his famous laws 70 years earlier by using the same idea, namely to find a path in a nonuniform field of force by small steps. It is generally not known that Kepler demonstrated the elliptic orbit to be composed of intelligeable differential pieces, in modern language, to result from a differential equation. Kepler was first to attribute planetary orbits to a force from the sun, rather than giving them a predetermined geometric shape. Even though neither the force was known nor its relation to motion, he could determine the differential equations of motion from observation. This is one of the most important achievements in the history of physics. In contrast to Newton's Principia and Galilei's Dialogo Kepler's text is not easy to read, for various reasons. Therefore, in the present article, his results -- most of them well known -- are first presented in modern language. Then, in order to justify the claim, the full text of some relevant chapters of Astronomia Nova is presented. 36. Digitalize the Twin: A Method for Calibration of Reference Data for Transfer Real-World Test Drives into Simulation

Abstract

In the course of the development of automated driving, there has been increasing interest in obtaining ground truth information from sensor recordings and transferring road traffic scenarios to simulations. The quality of the "ground truth" annotation is dictated by its accuracy. This paper presents a method for calibrating the accuracy of ground truth in practical applications in the automotive context. With an exemplary measurement device, we show that the proclaimed accuracy of the device is not always reached. However, test repetitions show deviations, resulting in non-uniform reliability and limited trustworthiness of the reference measurement. A similar result can be observed when reproducing the trajectory in the simulation environment: the exact reproduction of the driven trajectory does not always succeed in the simulation environment shown as an example because deviations occur. This is particularly relevant for making sensor-specific features such as material reflectivities for lidar and radar quantifiable in dynamic cases.

Abstract

Scenario-based virtual testing is seen as a key element to bring the overall safety validation effort for automated driving functions to an economically feasible level. In this work, a generic and modular architecture for simulation of automotive perception sensors is introduced, as part of the overall virtual testing pipeline. It is based on the functional decomposition of real world perception sensors. All interfaces between the individual modules of the model architecture are oriented on internationally recognized standards and therefore facilitate a high degree of interchangeability. In addition, a wrapper framework handles all outer communication and enables a profile-based parameterization of the model, where every profile reflects a specific set of parameters tailored to the specifications and use case of the end user.

43. Synthetic Generation of Radar Sensor Data for Virtual Validation of Autonomous Driving

Abstract

The first accidents in otherwise promising deployments of autonomous driving fleets has underscored the importance of safety certification. Safety certification is expensive, especially when conducted via real-world driving. As such, high expectations are placed on virtual testing as an economic alternative. Autonomous driving functionality often relies heavily on radar sensors, but adequately modeling these radar sensors presents a particular challenge. While automotive simulation techniques have improved, there have yet to be systematic evaluations to prove that radar simulation models describe typical radar anomalies adequately such that downstream data processing algorithms behave correctly when operated with synthetic data. This dissertation builds a series of contributions to address this need. First, sensing artifacts are extracted from targeted measurements and evaluated for modeling relevance. A new method based on ray tracing is presented that generates spectral radar data from a 3D virtual environment, while addressing measurement ranges, limited resolution, and unambiguous intervals. This method, called "Fourier tracing", is of particular note in that it can model multipath related sensing artifacts. This dissertation presents a standard set of experiments for evaluating radar models and applies these to compare Fourier tracing to other modeling approaches using real radar data. The evaluation focuses on multipath propagation with respect to wave superposition, the visibility of occluded objects, on mirror targets, and on object tracking with synthetic data. The analysis makes it possible to falsify aspects of the examined radar sensor models, question their underlying assumptions, and to identify where these methods adequately simulate radar behavior.

Abstract

Aims We aimed to analyze the relationship between epilepsy and glutamic acid decarboxylase autoantibodies (GADA) in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) and the impact of GADA on demographic, clinical, and metabolic data in T1DM patients with epilepsy. Methods We searched for patients with T1DM ���20 years and GADA measurements, and within this group for patients with epilepsy. We formed groups: T1DM + Epilepsy + GADA positive; T1DM + Epilepsy + GADA negative; T1DM + GADA positive; T1DM + GADA negative. We used logistic regression to analyze the relationship between epilepsy and GADA with odds ratio adjusted for sex, duration of diabetes (DOD), and age at diabetes onset (ADO). We used logistic regression with odds ratio adjusted for DOD and ADO onset using epilepsy as a dependent variable and GADA, HbA1c, ketoacidosis, severe hypoglycemia (SH), sex, celiac disease, and autoimmune thyroiditis as independent variables. We conducted regression analyses adjusted for sex, DOD, and ADO to analyze differences in clinical/metabolic parameters between the groups. Results Epilepsy was not more frequent in GADA���positive patients (GPP). Logistic regression including all patients with GADA measurements showed that hypoglycemia with coma (HC) correlated with epilepsy when compared to no SH. We found no differences in clinical and metabolic data between GPP and GADA���negative patients (GNP) with epilepsy. SH occurred more often in GPP with epilepsy in comparison to GPP without epilepsy. GNP with epilepsy had a higher rate of HC than GPP without epilepsy. Conclusion We found no relationship between epilepsy and GADA.
