This book presents a view of the place of drama in foreign language teaching with the intent that student motivation for learning a foreign language can be activated through the use of a number of activities grouped under the heading of "drama." Drama here is defined as any activity which asks the student to portray self or another person in an imaginary situation. The first part of the book on theory deals with oral communication, the nature of drama, drama in the language classroom, and integrating drama into the lesson. The second part of the book, a practical application of the theory, provides explanations, exercises and procedures, examples of different kinds of dramatic activities, ideas on using and interpreting texts, and suggestions for using the course book as source for dramatic activities. The text is illustrated with photographs, cartoons, and reproductions of pertinent documents. There are many lists of sources for further reading as well as a biblography. (AMH)

A chapter from the book "The Story of Troy" is presented. It discusses the strategy used by the Greeks to destroy the city of Troy. Odysseus and shipbuilder, Epeius, took in charge of building a huge wooden horse, where the Greeks' best soldiers could hide. They left the wooden horse outside the Trojan walls, in hopes of entering the city undetected. The Trojans believed the lie told by a Greek named Sinon that the horse was an offering to Athena.

A chapter from the book "The Story of Troy" is presented. It provides information on the death of Trojan hero, Hector and Greek hero, Achilles. After Hector killed Achilles' friend, Patroclus, he challenged Hector into a duel and killed him in the process. He tied Hector's body to the back of his chariot and drove around Troy three times, dragging the body behind him. Meanwhile, Paris killed Achilles by driving a poisoned arrow straight towards his left heel, the only weak part of his body.

A chapter from the book "The Story of Troy" is presented. It provides information on Trojan hero, Hector. He told his wife Andromache that he must fight to the death. He gathered his men and attacked the Greeks surrounding the city of Troy. His men set fire to Greek ships. Patroclus asked his cousin and best friend Achilles to help the Greeks fight the Trojans. When he refused, Patroclus asked if he could borrow Achilles' armour and tried to capture the city of Troy on his own, but was killed by Hector.

A chapter from the book "Bugs!" is presented. It discusses the different types of insects. It reveals how the praying mantis got its name. It describes a weevil-hunting wasp. It notes that ants eat meat, leaves, seeds and fungus. It explains the life-cycle of a dragonfly and also describes assassin bugs, stag beetles and shieldbugs.

A chapter of the book "Pirate Tales" is presented. It relates the story of Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard. The evil deeds attributed to Blackbeard include lighting cannon fuses below deck to show who could stay the longest despite the smoke and leaving some men on island without food and transportation. His pursuers caught up with him at Ocracoke Inlet and he was killed during the fight. It was later found out that Blackbeard had one man in the gunpowder room who was ready to blow up the ship.

A chapter of the book "Pirate Tales" is presented. It tells the story of William Kidd, who sailed from Plymouth in May 1696 on the Adventure, with permission from Lord Bellamont, the governor of New England, to hunt down pirates and attack French ships. He killed his gunner after an argument and made a few attempts at piracy until he learned that England sent Captain Benbow after him. He was convicted of murder and hung at Wapping.

A chapter of the book "Pirate Tales" is presented. It tells the story of John Dunn, who became a pirate after Spaniards started hunting them down, and Henry Morgan, who became leader of the pirates after Edward Mansfield died. They attacked Portobelo, using nuns and monks as cover to get near the castle. The pirates under Morgan then targeted Panama but the Spaniards heard of their coming and stashed their treasures. Morgan was captured but he eventually became Lieutenant-Governor and then Governor of Jamaica.

A chapter of the book "Pirate Tales" is presented. It tells the story of Captain Henry Avery, who as first mate under Captain Gibson on the ship "Charles," talked the men into taking over the ship. The Captain was given the option to join Avery but he decided to leave and Avery proceeded to Madagascar, where two smaller ships joined them. They attacked the ships of the Great Mogul and seized what is reportedly the biggest catch in the history of piracy.

A chapter of the book "Pirate Tales" is presented. It relates an incident where pirates attacked the ship ferrying Julius Caesar from Rome to Rhodes. The pirates took Caesar and his men to a small island and went to collect ransom from his family. Caesar went to see Flavius, borrowed 500 men and went back to the small island. He vowed that no Roman citizen will be kidnapped again by pirates and proceeded to hunt them down.
