Roses (genus Rosa L.) leaves and petals are used in food and cosmetic industry due to the bioactive specialized metabolites they contain, however there are no comparative data on the qualitative and quantitative content of those metabolites in the cultivars of different colors. 13. HBK 213 13th CBC Photosynthetic pigments, flavonoids and phenolic acids play a key role in photosynthesis, metabolism and plant protection against biotic and abiotic stress, and are main bioactive components of roses. Therefore, we screened for these components in leaves and petals of three differently coloured cultivars collected in the Botanical Garden in Zagreb with the aim of comparing their bioactive potential. The results revealed that more bioactive components were present in leaves than in petals of roses. Roses (both leaves and petals) of different colours showed a specialisation in bioactive components representation. The results showed that in cultivars of different colours a trade-off between amount of photosynthetic pigments, flavonoids and phenolic acids, especially in leaves, exists.

The influence of salicylic acid (SA) applied in the range 10-1000 µM on the qualitative and quantitative profile of flavonoids and phenolic acids in seedlings, and leaves of healthy and Plasmodiophora brassicae-infected Brassica rapa ssp. pekinensis (Chinese cabagge) plants was investigated using a HPLC method. In seedlings the treatment induced, in a dose dependent manner, the synthesis of caffeic, chlorogenic, ferulic and sinapic acid, and kaempferol. In healthy plants SA treatment caused an increase in the phenolic acids concentration of identified compounds, but not in a dose dependent manner ; and a decrease in kaempferol levels. Upon infection, the amount of phenolic compounds was increased compared to healthy plants, however the effect of SA on the phenolic profile of infected plants was variable and no unequivocal conclusion could be drawn. None of the SA concentrations was sufficient to reduce disease symptoms. This result indicates specific responses of Chinese cabagge, on the level of flavonoids and phenolic acids, to SA depending on developmental stage and health condition.

Die MRT ist ein zuverlässiges und gut reproduzierbares Verfahren für die Untersuchung von Patienten mit Vorhofumkehroperation bei zugrundeliegender d-TGA. Die Morphologie und die Funktion des postoperativ rechten Systemventrikels können trotz seiner komplexen Geometrie lageunabhängig beurteilt werden. Im Langzeitverlauf lassen sich Veränderungen des rechten Ventrikels mit typischen morphologischen Kennzeichen nachweisen. Sowohl gegenüber rechten Pulmonalventrikeln als auch gegenüber linken Systemventrikeln von Probanden lassen sich Leistungsverluste des rechten Systemventrikels objektivieren, die mittels der MRT quantifizierbar sind. Trotz der im Median verringerten RV-EF waren die meisten der untersuchten Patienten in ihrer alltäglichen Belastung gar nicht oder nur gering eingeschränkt. Daher stellen wir die Hypothese auf, dass bereits eine RV-EF von >40% eine ausreichend gute Funktion für dieses Patientenkollektiv beschreibt. Bisher immer noch schwierig ist das Management der Patienten in der postoperativen Nachsorge. Die Risikostratifizierung ist, bedingt durch die postoperativ veränderte Anatomie und Hämodynamik, schwierig. In dieser Studie konnte erstmals gezeigt werden, dass ein optimaler Bereich für die Größe der rechtsventrikulären Muskelmasseindex existiert, eine gute Funktion des rechten Ventrikels zu erwarten ist. Sowohl eine zu geringe als auch eine zu stark ausgeprägte adaptive Myokardhypertrophie des rechten Ventrikels scheinen mit einer reduzierten globalen RV-Funktion einherzugehen. Die Ergebnisse dieser Studie weisen auf eine funktionelle Einheit von rechtem Systemventrikel und interventrikulärem Septum hin. Demzufolge sollte das interventrikuläre Septum bei der volumetrischen Auswertung nicht wie bisher üblich dem linken Pulmonalventrikel, sondern in Zukunft dem rechten Systemventrikel zugeordnet werden. Gemäß der Hypothese, dass durch die rechtsventrikuläre Hypertrophie der Anteil der rechtsventrikulären Muskelfasern am septalen Myokard steigt, erklären wir das häufig zu beobachtende Phänomen der paradoxen Septumbewegung für Patienten mit Vorhofumkehroperation als einen funktionellen und wichtigen adaptiven Prozess. Die Fähigkeit des rechten Ventrikels, durch myokardiale Hypertrophie an die veränderten Druckverhältnisse zu adaptieren, scheint individuell unterschiedlich zu sein und ist möglicherweise ein Prozess des frühen postoperativen Intervalls. Zur besseren Bewertung der Veränderungen der volumetrischen Parameter sollten weitere, einen längeren Beobachtungszeitraum umfassendere Längsschnittuntersuchungen mit größeren Fallzahlen durchgeführt werden. Aus diesen Gründen und für eine bessere, adäquate Beobachtung und Betreuung der Patienten erachten wir regelmäßige MRT-Untersuchungen, z.B. im Abstand von 2-3 Jahren, als sinnvoll. Von großem Vorteil ist dabei, dass die Untersuchung dieser jungen Patienten mittels der MRT nichtinvasiv und ohne ionisierende Strahlung erfolgen kann., MRI is a reliable and well reproducible tool to examine patients with atrial switch operation for surgical correction of d-TGA. Despite complex geometric and anatomy morphology and function can be assessed well. In late follow-up typical morphologic changes can be seen. The ability of systemic right and pulmonary left ventricles of patients is reduced compared to normal systemic left and pulmonary right ventricles, which can be quantified by MRI. Despite a reduced RV-EF most of the patients were in good conditions in everyday life. That's why we exspect a RV-EF>40% sufficiant for a good RV function in these patients. Up to now the postoperative management of these patients is still difficult. There are no valid risk stratification factors. This study shows first an optimal range for RV-myocardial mass in which good RV-function can be anticipated. Both a very low and a very strong adaptive myocardial hypertrophy seem to be connected with a reduced global RV- function. The results of this study show the systemic right ventricle and the interventricular septum to be a unity. Therefore the interventricular septum should be counted as a part of the systemic ventricle in future in volumetry. The paradoxic septal movement seems to be another adaptive phenomen resultig from hypertrophy of the part of right ventricular muscle fibers of the IVS. There seem to be strong variability of right ventriculars ability of hypertrophy and may it is a process of the early postoperative period. For a better assessment of changes of volumetric paratemers further studys are neccessary. We think that regular MRI examionations could be helpful for a better follow up and to understand the underlying processes by more detailed studys. A big advantage: the examination is completely without radiation dose, optimal for young patients.
