Research regarding athletics stakeholders' (e.g., faculty, non-athlete peers) perceptions of Division I college athletes is abundant and demonstrates that most stakeholders hold negative and stereotypical views of athletes. However, despite their time spent with athletes, little is known about the perceptions academic tutors have toward the athletes they are brought in to assist. Thus, through the lens of stereotype threat, this study explored graduate(d) and undergraduate tutors' (n = 67) perceptions of athletes from three academically and athletically elite Division I institutions. Tutors' perceptions were examined and compared based on their responses to an adapted situational attitude scale survey using correlations, t-tests, and Fisher's Z tests. In general, results suggested tutors did not maintain stereotypical perceptions of the athletes they worked with, a key difference from previous scholarship in this area. Still, graduate(d) tutors generally held athletes to higher academic standards compared to undergraduate tutors. Implications for sport practitioners in academic support programs for athletes include hiring more graduate(d) tutors to work with athletes and fostering stronger relationships between tutors and athletes. Ultimately, this study expands upon the previous research on perceptions and stereotypes of athletes and the findings may demonstrate a shift toward more positive and strengths-based perceptions of Division I athletes. The World Health Organization recommends human papillomavirus (HPV) testing for cervical screening. Extended genotyping can identify the highest‐risk HPV‐positive women. An inexpensive, rapid, mobile isothermal amplification assay (ScreenFire HPV RS test) was recently redesigned to yield four channels ordered by cancer risk (ie, hierarchical approach): HPV16, HPV18/45, HPV31/33/35/52/58 and HPV39/51/56/59/68. Stored specimens from 2076 women (mean age 30.9) enrolled in a colposcopy clinic, with high HPV prevalence, were tested with ScreenFire. We calculated hierarchical channel positivity and non‐hierarchical channel and type positivity, according to histologic diagnosis (256 cancer, 350 cervical intraepithelial neoplasia [CIN]3, 409 CIN2, 1020 < CIN2) and known virologic reference results (Linear Array and TypeSeq). Additionally, we analyzed ScreenFire time‐to‐positive up to 60 min by channel and histology. Overall clinical sensitivity for CIN3+ was 94.7% (95% confidence interval 92.6‐96.4), similar to Linear Array (92.3, 89.7‐94.3) and TypeSeq (96.0, 93.9‐97.6). Sensitivity was high for all types and channels. The hierarchical approach was well in line with HPV typing and histologic diagnosis, prioritizing higher risk women having HPV16 and precancer. For HPV16, time‐to‐positive was shorter in women with precancer. ScreenFire showed excellent agreement with research reference typing tests and detection of CIN2+. Risk‐based type results could help guide clinical management of HPV‐positive women. Time‐to‐positive combined with genotyping might be useful. ScreenFire is rapid, mobile, relatively inexpensive and designed for implementation of HPV‐based screening and management, including in lower‐resource settings. Objective: To examine the impact of community-level social determinants of health (SDoH) on the onset of occupational therapy (OT) and physical therapy (PT) services among individuals hospitalized for traumatic brain injury (TBI). Setting: 14 acute care hospitals in the state of Colorado. Participants: We studied 5825 adults with TBI. Design: In a secondary analysis of de-identified electronic health record data, we performed multivariable logistic and linear regressions to calculate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% CIs for the likelihood of receiving services and duration to initiation of services among those who received them. Main Measures: Community-level SDoH, receipt of rehabilitation services, and onset of rehabilitation services. Results: Multivariable logistic and linear regressions revealed that those in top quartiles for community income were associated with duration to OT services, ranging from OR = 0.33 [05% CI, 0.07, 0.60] for quartile 2 to 0.76 [0.44, 1.08] for quartile 4 compared with those with the lowest quartile. Only the top quartile differed significantly for duration to PT services (0.63 [0.28, 0.98]). Relative to those with below the median community percentage of high school degree, those with above the median were associated with duration to PT services only (−0.32 [−0.60, −0.04]). Neither community percentage with bachelor's degree nor rural-urban designation was associated with duration to either therapy service. Conclusion: Further research is needed to determine whether our SDoH variables were too diffuse to capture individual experiences and impacts on care or whether community-level education and income, and rurality, truly do not influence time to therapy for patients hospitalized with TBI. Other, individual-level variables, such as age, comorbidity burden, and TBI severity, demonstrated clear relationships with therapy onset. The sexualities of men who have same-sex desires yet identify as straight have attracted significant attention in recent years. We present findings from interviews with 100 such men, whom we recruited while they were seeking sex with men online, and examine the logics that allow them to maintain an identity as straight. Our sample is somewhat unique in that it included men across a wide age range (from 18 to 70), and also because many of our participants are white adult US men who are married or in stable relationships with women. Based on their patterns of sexual interpretation, we discuss how these men make their same-sex desires and behaviours consistent with a primary self-identification as straight. We argue that, in the process of maintaining identities as straight men, they change the definition of heterosexuality, in effect turning it into a considerably elastic category that is perceived as fully compatible with having and enacting same-sex desires.
