The Belle II experiment at the super KEK B-factory (SuperKEKB) in Tsukuba, Japan, has been collecting $e^+e^−$ collision data since March 2019. Operating at a record-breaking luminosity of up to $4.7×10^{34} cm^{−2}s^{−1}$, data corresponding to $424 fb^{−1}$ has since been recorded. The Belle II VerteX Detector (VXD) is central to the Belle II detector and its physics program and plays a crucial role in reconstructing precise primary and decay vertices. It consists of the outer 4-layer Silicon Vertex Detector (SVD) using double sided silicon strips and the inner two-layer PiXel Detector (PXD) based on the Depleted P-channel Field Effect Transistor (DePFET) technology. The PXD DePFET structure combines signal generation and amplification within pixels with a minimum pitch of $(50×55) μm^2$. A high gain and a high signal-to-noise ratio allow thinning the pixels to $75 μm$ while retaining a high pixel hit efficiency of about $99%$. As a consequence, also the material budget of the full detector is kept low at $≈0.21%$$\frac{X}{X_0}$ per layer in the acceptance region. This also includes contributions from the control, Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC), and data processing Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) as well as from cooling and support structures. This article will present the experience gained from four years of operating PXD; the first full scale detector employing the DePFET technology in High Energy Physics. Overall, the PXD has met the expectations. Operating in the intense SuperKEKB environment poses many challenges that will also be discussed. The current PXD system remains incomplete with only 20 out of 40 modules having been installed. A full replacement has been constructed and is currently in its final testing stage before it will be installed into Belle II during the ongoing long shutdown that will last throughout 2023.

We present a detailed simulation study of the signatures from the sequential decays of the triple-strange pbar p -> {\Omega}+{\Omega}- -> K+{\Lambda}barK- {\Lambda} -> K+pbar{\pi}+K-p{\pi}- process in the PANDA central tracking system with focus on hit patterns and precise time measurement. We present a systematic approach for studying physics channels at the detector level and develop input criteria for tracking algorithms and trigger lines. Finally, we study the beam momentum dependence on the reconstruction efficiency for the PANDA detector.

We present measurements of the electron helicity asymmetry in quasi-elastic proton knockout from $^{2}$H and $^{12}$C nuclei by polarized electrons. This asymmetry depends on the fifth structure function, is antisymmetric with respect to the scattering plane, and vanishes in the absence of final-state interactions, and thus it provides a sensitive tool for their study. Our kinematics cover the full range in off-coplanarity angle $\phi_{pq}$, with a polar angle $\theta_{pq}$ coverage up to about 8 degrees. The missing energy resolution enabled us to determine the asymmetries for knock-out resulting in different states of the residual $^{11}$B system. We find that the helicity asymmetry for $p$-shell knockout from $^{12}$C depends on the final state of the residual system and is relatively large (up to $\approx 0.16$), especially at low missing momentum. It is considerably smaller (up to $\approx 0.01$) for $s$-shell knockout from both $^{12}$C and $^2$H. The data for $^2$H are in very good agreement with theoretical calculations, while the predictions for $^{12}$C exhibit differences with respect to the data.

This thesis describes design and construction of the SFT. The first section gives a comprehensive overview of the experimental set-up of HERMES and its components relevant for DVCS analysis. The second section introduces the Recoil Detector and Monte Carlo (MC) studies performed to evaluate the requirements for the individual detector parts. In the third section a detailed description of the design parameters and constraints is given and the chosen materials and assembling methods are discussed. This section is complemented by reporting results of the performance of SFT prototype modules from a test experiment conducted at GSI.Finally, an introduction into the GPD formalism and its application to nuclei is given in the fourth section and pioneering results of DVCS off nuclei are presented in the fifth section., Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wird die Planung und der Bau eines Spurrekonstruktionsdetektors aus szintillierenden Fasern (SFT) für den HERMES Recoil-Detektor beschrieben. Dies umfaßt die Festlegung der Entwurfsziele, Entwicklung von Herstellungverfahren, Auswahl der Detektorbestandteile sowie die Durchführung und Auswertung von Komponententests. Abschließend wird eine Einführung in den Generalised Parton Distribution-Formalismus (GPD) zur Beschreibung der nicht-perturbativen Nukleonstruktur gegeben. Dieser Formalismus kann auch auf Atomkerne angewendet werden und zu neuen Einsichten in die Kernstruktur und partonische Freiheitsgrade im Kern führen. Anschließend wird die Analyse tief-virtueller Compton-Streuereignisse an verschiedenen Kernen beschrieben.

In der vorliegenden Arbeit wurde einerseits der Nachweis geladener Teilchen und das Auflösungsvermögen für hochenergetische Protonen (~1 GeV) mit einer Bleiwolframat -Matrix, andererseits in einer vergleichenden Studie das Auflösungsvermögen von Einzelkristallen unterschiedlicher Qualität und Geometrie aus Bleiwolframat, Cerfluorid und Bariumfluorid für niederenergetische Protonen (< 100 MeV) untersucht. Dazu wurden Experimente an den Beschleunigern COSY am FZ Jülich und AGOR am KVI in Groningen durchgeführt. Am Beschleuniger COSY war ein parasitärer Protonenstrahl mit einer Energie von 1,2 GeV verfügbar, der auf ein Aluminiumtarget gerichtet wurde. Die geladenen Reaktionsprodukte wurden mit Hilfe einer PbWO4-Matrix, die aus 25 Einzelkristallen besteht, unter ~ 8° relativ zur Strahlrichtung detektiert. Durch eine Flugzeitmessung war es möglich, geladene Pionen und Kaonen, sowie Protonen und Deuteronen zu unterscheiden. Für Protonen, die in 15 cm PbWO4 gerade noch gestoppt werden, wurde das Auflösungsvermögen der Detektormatrix bestimmt. Dieses Ergebnis ist mit dem früher gemessenen Auflösungsvermögen für Photonen vergleichbar. Erstmals wurden quantitativ nichtlineare Effekte in der Detektorresponse für geladene Hadronen nachgewiesen. Es zeigt sich, daß die Szintillationsausbeute für Protonen um einen Faktor > 3 im Vergleich zu Pionen gleicher Energie reduziert wird. Am Beschleuniger AGOR stand ein H2+-Strahl mit einer Energie von 170 MeV zur Verfügung, der es erlaubte, an Kohlenstoff- und CH2-Targets elastisch und inelastisch gestreute Protonen mit Energien bis zu 85 MeV zu spektroskopieren. Wie erwartet konnten exzellente Energieauflösungen für BaF2 (~1%) und CeF3 (1,3 - 2,4%) erzielt werden, die in beiden Fällen deutlich besser als für Photonen gleicher Energie sind. Die Ergebnisse für PbWO4 (4,3 - 6,7%) bestätigen die zuvor an COSY gemessenen Daten, wobei ein mit Molybdän dotierter Testkristall eine deutlich bessere Auflösung zeigt. Die Meßdaten bestätigen die Anwendbarkeit von PbWO4 als Szintillatormaterial zum Teilchennachweis auch für den Mittel- und Niederenergiebereich, wobei sich hier die Vorteile eines kompakten Detektoraufbaus anbieten. Außerdem wurden im Rahmen dieser Diplomarbeit erste Testmessungen mit PbWO4-Kristallen von (32x32) mm2 Querschnittsfläche durchgeführt. Die Qualität dieser in dieser Größe erst kürzlich verfügbar gewordenen Kristalle erfüllt die generellen Anforderungen für den geplanten Photonendetektor Photon Ball am ANKE Magnetspektrometer des COSY-Beschleunigers. Subject of this survey was on the one hand the detection of high energetic charged particles with a matrix consisting of 25 leadtungstate crystals and the determination of the energy resolution for high energetic protons, on the other hand a comparative study of the resolution for low energetic protons (< 100 MeV) of single crystals of different quality and shape made of leadtungstate, ceriumfluoride and bariumfluoride. Therefore, experiments were carried out at the acclerator facilities COSY, located at the FZ Jülich, and AGOR at KVI in Groningen, the Netherlands. At the COSY-facility a 1.2 GeV external proton beam was hitting onto an aluminum target and the scattered protons as well as charged reaction products were detected with the PWO matrix, located in 3 m distance at an angle of app. 9° relative to the beam axis. The discrimination of pions, kaons, protons and deuterons was basec on time of flight measurement using a fast plastic scintillator as start counter. For protons, which are fully stopped within the crystal (~ 15 cm length) the resolution of the whole matrix was determined. The achieved result is comparable to values obtained for electromagnetic probes. For the first time nonlinear effects in the detector response for charged pions were observed quantitatively. The scintillation light initiated by protons is significantly reduced by a factor > 3 compared to the response of pions of identical energy. At the AGOR facility a H2+ beam of 170 MeV kinetic energy was directed onto C and CH2 targets and the elastically and inelastically scattered protons were measured at forward angles. As expected, excellent resolutions for BaF2 (~1%) and CeF3 (1,3 - 2,4%) were obtained. The results for leadtungstate (4,3 - 6,7%) corroborate the previous measurements at COSY. The results verify the applicability of leadtungstate as a scintillator material also for charged particle detection in the low and medium energy regime with the advantage to allow a very compact detector design. In addition, first test measurements of leadtungstate crystals with (32x32) mm2 cross-section were carried out in respect to their optical properties. Crystals of such large cross-sections became only recently available. The tested samples met the requirements of the planned photon detector Photon Ball which will be build as an upgrade of the ANKE detector at the COSY facility.
