Almost a quarter of a century has passed since the publication of our volume on the history of Slavic gospel studies: Die altslavische Version der Evangelien. Forschungsgeschichte und zeitgenössische Forschung (Köln, Weimar, Wien 2001). In anticipation of a new, revised, and updated edition, we have continued to collect the new bibliography, reflecting on the ongoing changes. The spread of computer technology and the process of digitisation have certainly produced profound changes in the study of the manuscript tradition of the gospels. Not only are many old editions of the gospels and most of the studies available on the web, but also dozens of codices are now accessible in the digital archives of major libraries, not to mention the possibility of consulting dictionaries, Paleo-Slavonic and Church Slavonic lexicons or databases in which the gospels are included. This is not only a facilitation in our research work, but a different approach to research that allows us to analyse a larger quantity of manuscripts with targeted searches and to have an overview more easily. Looking at the main avenues of research over the last quarter of a century, on the one hand one can observe an advancement in the traditional themes, from the structure of the book to the memoirs of the feasts in the menology, from the description of the manuscripts to their ornamentation, not to mention linguistic analysis at all levels. On the other hand, one can observe the multiplication of studies relating to specific areas, starting with the written production of Bosnia, Galicia and Volynia up to Moldavia, with the publication of research and editions of individual codices that contribute to creating a broader and more detailed panorama of the complex history of the book of the Gospels from the first generations following the mission of Cyril and Methodius up to the advent of printing, which led to the gradual decline of the manuscript tradition. It should be noted more generally that the study of the manuscript tradition of the Gospels remains a key theme of Slavic studies in the fields of Slavic palaeography, textual criticism and linguistic analysis. В статье прослежены жизненный, педагогический и научный путь советского и российского слависта С.Б. Бернштейна, роль выдающегося ученого в возрождении славяноведения в СССР. Актуальность ее обусловлена важностью оценки состояния славяноведения в советский период и роли профессора С.Б. Бернштейна в становлении славяноведения в XX в. Предметом исследования служит организационная, научная, педагогическая деятельность С.Б. Бернштейна, направленная на возрождение и развитие советской славистики. Цель статьи – в контексте истории отечественного славяноведения и определявших его тенденций показать роль организационной и научной деятельности выдающегося советского и российского слависта профессора С.Б. Бернштейна. В исследовании использованы системный, историко-культурный подходы; сравнительный и историографический методы. В статье в обобщенной форме прослежен исторический путь отечественного славяноведения. Автор обозначает состояние российской славистики XIX в., характерный для данного этапа рост научного знания в разных областях на основе широкого сравнительно-исторического осмысления текста культуры: в исследовании истории славянской письменности, славянской народной поэзии, русского литературного языка, русской паремиологии и т. д. Опираясь на воспоминания С.Б. Бернштейна и ученых Института славяноведения РАН, автор показывает состояние славистической науки в 20–30-е годы ХХ века, известное гонениями на славистов. В центре внимания в статье оказываются 40-е и последующие годы ХХ века, на которые приходится возрождение славистики при деятельном участии С.Б. Бернштейна. В обзоре представлена роль ученого в процессе возрождения славянского отделения МГУ, в организации кафедры славянской филологии МГУ, Института славяноведения, в развитии ряда научных направлений: советской болгаристики, кирилломефодиевистики, славянской диалектологии и лингвогеографии, сравнительной грамматики славянских языков, этнолингвистики и славянских древностей и др.

The development of Slovak Slavic science in the international context depends primarily on the competitiveness of its results, which are measurable in Slavic research especially in terms of their acceptance in the national and international context. The paper focuses on some program lines of Slavic scientific research, which are carried out in the environment of academic Slavic studies in coordination with the Slovak Committee of Slavists. In this context, cooperation with the International Committee of Slavists and Slavic research institutes abroad plays a special role. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents the history of Slavonic/Polish Studies at the University of Berlin from 1841 until today. The most important scientific achievements of the successive heads of departments are briefly discussed, with particular emphasis on Polish linguistic research at the Humboldt University. The text critically comments publication Boris Yotsov. Biobibliografiya (2018), an annotated list of works by Boris Jocov (1894–1945) and texts written about him. This professor of the university in Sofia, important personage of literary history, Czech studies, Bulgarian studies, and Slavic studies, was, because of his „pro-fascist“ attitudes and involvement in two governments (1942–1944) as Minister of Public Education, executed. After this, Jocov’s name — because of new cultural politics after September the 9th 1944 — was forcefully expelled from both public and academic awareness. His many publications were forbidden to cite in academic texts, although results of his investigations were non-ethically appropriated by several Bulgarian slavists who presented them as their own. Writings of Jocov start to return to general public cultural awareness since 1989, especially after publication of groundbreaking monography Opera Slavica ili Nazad kăm Boris Yotsov (1995) by V. Todorov. Main aim of the presented text is focused on bibliographical additions documenting „Czech trace“ of Jocov in wider meaning of the word; presented are his studies in Prague (1923–1925), his dissertation on poet and translator from Polish O. Mokrý, reception of his texts in Czech newspapers (J. Páta was the one who informed about them most systematically), Jocov’s own texts, which were partly published in the Czech lands and which were not documented in above mentioned bibliography, as well as general incentives of his works which influenced Czech Bulgarian and Slavic studies (V. Bechyňová, M. Černá, D. Hronková, Z. Urban, etc.).

The authors present some of the most important writings of the well-known professor emeritus of Bonn University, Hans Rothe (1928-2021), offering an overview of the main ideas he developed and the methods he applied in his research. Due attention is given to his indefatigable activity as an editor of important, mostly unduly forgotten medieval and early modern texts. His commentary to the first translations of the Bible for many Slavic peoples remains a milestone of Slavic studies. He was a pioneer in fostering research about Slavo-Byzantine liturgical and religious texts, devotional songs, and baroque literature in Russia and Ukraine. No less remarkable are his articles about the Enlightenment and such giants of literature as Lesja Ukrajinka, Deržavin, Puškin and Tolstoj.

The paper deals with the problem of the unknown travel of V.I. Grigorovich abroad and to Rome in 1840–1841. These records contained travel notes, as well as the author’s reflections on the fate of ancient Rome and emotional description of their own feelings and thoughts when visiting certain historical places. One of these places, namely Monte Cavo, near Rome, made a special impression on the author. On the basis of these diary entries, F. Uspensky came to the conclusion that in Rome V.I. Grigorovich allegedly descended something like a revelation from above, a moral fracture occurred, opened a certain truth that influenced all his future activities. Using linguistic analysis, an attempt was made to identify the author of anonymous entries from V.I. Grigorovich’s archive in the Russian State Library. By means of the cognitive analysis, the elements of Slavic narrative were considered in other works by V.I. Grigorovich. The paper presents different views on the authorship of diary entries, including those expressed by N. Bulich and A. Sergeev. On the basis of V.I. Grigorovich’s articles and his “Notebook of Draft Records”, his historical and religious views, as well as his attitude to the idea of pan-Slavism and the historical mission of the Slavs were analyzed.

The Czech historian Jaroslav Bidlo (1868-1937) was one of the few Austro-Hungarian scholars who possessed vast and critical knowledge in the field of history of Slavic nations. His knowledge was based on his own experience gathered in Polish and Russian academic circles before World War I. As a professor of the Czech Charles-Ferdinand University he was involved in the so-called Neo-Slav movement, which culminated in the "Slavic Congress" in Prague in July 1908, and in the edition of a collective monograph about the Slavic nations (Slovanstvo, Prague 1912). Bidlo used these opportunities to create his own synthetic concept of Slavic history, which he later successfully developed during the interwar period. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Erik Krag: his student years in Soviet Russia Erik Krag was the first Norwegian professor of Slavic literatures. The artic­­le Erik Krag: his student years in Soviet Russiapresents earlier un­known and un­pub­lished facts about his stays, including the chronological frames, in Moscow and Leningrad as a young student. These facts are evident from archive material, deposited in Oslo, Moscow and St Peters­burg. The article also demonstrates that the founder of the yaphetic theory N. Ya. Marr showed interest in the young Nor­wegian scholar.

This article deals with the biography of the German Slavist Hildegard Striedter-Temps (1931–1972) and the creation and reception of her volume Deutsche Lehnwörter im Slovenischen (German Loanwords in Slovenian), published in 1963. This work, together with her dissertation Deutsche Lehnwörter im Serbokroatischen (German Loanwords in Serbo-Croatian), printed in 1958, is still one of the standard works on Slavic-German language contact.

In the last fifteen years, research on the Slavic Gospel manuscript tradition have reached new and important achievements especially with the spread of computer technology and digitization process. Taking into account progress in the study of the Greek manuscript tradition, the author explains some basic guidelines: the textual structure of the Gospel book, the Menologion pericopes, the Gospel book ornamentation, the new editions. At the end the main essays on individual manuscripts or on particular issues are introduced. The Slavic Gospel, therefore, is still a key issue of Slavic studies in the field of Slavic paleography, textual criticism, and linguistic analysis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article introduces readers to the current state of Slovak studies in Russia. The fate of Slavic studies in Russia is complicated and it has had its ups (late 19th and early 20th century) and downs (1920s and 1930s), but until now there has been a multidisciplinary tradition of studying all Slavic peoples, their languages, literature, history and culture. The article focuses on the study of Slovak language, literature, history and culture at Moscow State University, the Institute for Slavic Studies in Moscow, and Saint-Petersburg State University. It deals with the main researchers and their work and publications. The article is based on general research into the history of Slavic studies carried out by leading Russian scientists.
