We have observed the $^{13}$CH$_3$OH $5_1-4_1$ A$^+$, $^{13}$CH$_3$OH $14_1-13_2$ A$^-$, and CH$_2$DOH $8_{2,6}-8_{1,7}$ $e_0$ lines toward 24 high-mass star-forming regions by using Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) with an angular resolution of about 0$^{\prime\prime}$.3. This resolution corresponds to a linear scale of 400-1600 au, allowing us to resolve individual cores properly. We detected the $^{13}$CH$_3$OH and CH$_2$DOH emission near the continuum peaks in many of these regions. From the two $^{13}$CH$_3$OH lines, we calculated the temperature toward the $^{13}$CH$_3$OH peaks, and confirm that the emission traces hot ($>$100 K) regions. The $N$(CH$_2$DOH)/$N$($^{12}$CH$_3$OH) ratio in the observed high-mass star-forming regions is found to be lower than that in low-mass star-forming regions. We have found no correlation between the $N$(CH$_2$DOH)/$N$($^{13}$CH$_3$OH) or $N$(CH$_2$DOH)/$N$($^{12}$CH$_3$OH) ratios and either temperatures or distance to the sources, and have also found a source-to-source variation in these ratios. Our model calculations predict that the $N$(CH$_2$DOH)/$N$($^{12}$CH$_3$OH) ratio in hot cores depends on the duration of the cold phase; the shorter the cold phase, the lower the deuterium fractionation in the hot cores. We have suggested that the lower $N$(CH$_2$DOH)/$N$($^{12}$CH$_3$OH) ratio in high-mass star-forming regions compared to that in low-mass star-forming regions is due to the shorter duration of the cold phase and that the diversity in the $N$(CH$_2$DOH)/$N$($^{12}$CH$_3$OH) ratio in high-mass star-forming regions is due to the diversity in the length of the cold prestellar phase, and not the time that the objects have been in the hot core phase., Comment: Accepted for publication in ApJ (49 pages)

We extend the exchange property of Weyl groupoids, as formulated by Heckenberger and Yamane, to a newly introduced class called path subgroupoids of Weyl groupoids. This extension provides a combinatorial interpretation of why the odd reflections of basic Lie superalgebras satisfy the exchange property, viewing it as a consequence of the underlying Weyl groupoid structure. Furthermore, we establish an analogous result within this framework for Nichols algebras of diagonal type, thereby generalizing our previous findings on homomorphisms between Verma modules with the same character but associated with different Borel subalgebras in the case of basic Lie superalgebras., Comment: arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:2502.14274

We examine the interplay between different highest weight structures in the BGG category O of basic Lie superalgebras arising from distinct choices of Borel subalgebras-an aspect that has no analogous theory in the classical Lie algebra setting. We describe the compositions of homomorphisms between Verma supermodules arising from different highest weight structure but sharing the same character. This requires us to define a class of edge-colored graphs, defined purely graph theoretically, by extracting the exchange property of odd reflections. As an application of these homomorphisms, we generalize results of Coulembier-Serganova and Chen-Mazorchuk concerning the associated varieties and projective dimensions of Verma supermodules.

We study some variants of Verma modules of basic Lie superalgebras obtained via changing Borel subalgebras. These allow us to demonstrate that the principal block of \(\mathfrak{gl}(1|1)\) is realized as (non-Serre) full subcategories of any atypical block of BGG category \( \mathcal{O} \) of basic Lie superalgebras.

Quantum computing with light is a promising approach to achieving large-scale quantum computation. While Gaussian operations on optical states have been successfully scaled, the generation of highly non-Gaussian states remains a critical challenge for achieving universality and fault-tolerance. However, due to the inherently weak nonlinearity in optics, creating non-Gaussian states remains challenging. A promising solution is to ``breed'' non-Gaussianity by combining multiple weakly non-Gaussian states using quantum memory systems. Here, we propose and demonstrate a scalable method for generating optical non-Gaussian states using a cavity-based quantum memory operating in continuous time. Our memory features dual-mode operation, enabling efficient switching between memory and entangling functionalities, allowing state generation and processing with minimal resources. By employing a time-domain-multiplexed breeding protocol, we successfully generated Wigner-negative states, a key requirement for quantum error correction. This work also marks the first full demonstration of continuous-time cavity-based quantum memory, encompassing the complete processes of writing, storage, and readout. These results represent a significant advancement in quantum information processing with light, providing a scalable method for generating complex non-Gaussian states essential for fault-tolerant quantum computing. Beyond advancing optical quantum computing, the techniques and insights from this work could impact a wide range of applications, from enhancing quantum communication networks to refining quantum sensing and metrology.

Telekinesis is the ability to manipulate remote objects without direct physical contact. In fictional works, telekinesis users are often depicted as controlling objects with their hands and other body parts as if by will alone. Such depictions suggest that users experience a sense of agency over the object despite not physically touching it. The ``neutron lifetime puzzle'' arises from the discrepancy between neutron lifetime measurements obtained using the beam method, which measures decay products, and the bottle method, which measures the disappearance of neutrons. To resolve this puzzle, we conducted an experiment using a pulsed cold neutron beam at J-PARC. In this experiment, the neutron lifetime is determined from the ratio of neutron decay counts to $^3$He(n,p)$^3$H reactions in a gas detector. This experiment belongs to the beam method but differs from previous experiments that measured protons, as it instead detects electrons, enabling measurements with distinct systematic uncertainties. By enlarging the beam transport system and reducing systematic uncertainties, we achieved a fivefold improvement in precision. Analysis of all acquired data yielded a neutron lifetime of $\tau_{\rm n}=877.2~\pm~1.7_{\rm(stat.)}~^{+4.0}_{-3.6}{}_{\rm (sys.)}$ s. This result is consistent with bottle method measurements but exhibits a 2.3$\sigma$ tension with the average value obtained from the proton-detection-based beam method., Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures

We present design principles for ultrashort-pulse, type-0 phase-matched optical parametric amplifiers to generate and measure spectrally pure degenerate squeezed light. We achieve a Schmidt number of $K \approx 1.02$ with squeezing levels greater than 15 dB spanning over $>5$ THz bandwidth with cm-scale devices on thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) on insulator platform. Our work opens up promising avenues for large-scale circuits for ultrafast quantum information processing and quantum sensing applications on rapidly advancing TFLN platform with already demonstrated linear components and photodetection capabilities.

A popular approach of automated mechanism design is to formulate a linear program (LP) whose solution gives a mechanism with desired properties. We analytically derive a class of optimal solutions for such an LP that gives mechanisms achieving standard properties of efficiency, incentive compatibility, strong budget balance (SBB), and individual rationality (IR), where SBB and IR are satisfied in expectation. Notably, our solutions are represented by an exponentially smaller number of essential variables than the original variables of LP. Our solutions, however, involve a term whose exact evaluation requires solving a certain optimization problem exponentially many times as the number of players, $N$, grows. We thus evaluate this term by modeling it as the problem of estimating the mean reward of the best arm in multi-armed bandit (MAB), propose a Probably and Approximately Correct estimator, and prove its asymptotic optimality by establishing a lower bound on its sample complexity. This MAB approach reduces the number of times the optimization problem is solved from exponential to $O(N\,\log N)$. Numerical experiments show that the proposed approach finds mechanisms that are guaranteed to achieve desired properties with high probability for environments with up to 128 players, which substantially improves upon the prior work., Comment: 35 pages

Given an undirected graph $G = (V,E)$ with a set of terminals $T\subseteq V$ partitioned into a family $\mathcal{S}$ of disjoint blocks, find the maximum number of vertex-disjoint paths whose endpoints belong to two distinct blocks while no other internal vertex is a terminal. This problem is called Mader's $\mathcal{S}$-path packing. It has been of remarkable interest as a common generalization of the non-bipartite matching and vertex-disjoint $s\text{-}t$ paths problem. This paper presents a new deterministic algorithm for this problem via known reduction to linear matroid parity. The algorithm utilizes the augmenting-path algorithm of Gabow and Stallmann (1986), while replacing costly matrix operations between augmentation steps with a faster algorithm that exploits the original $\mathcal{S}$-path packing instance. The proposed algorithm runs in $O(mnk)$ time, where $n = |V|$, $m = |E|$, and $k = |T|\le n$. This improves on the previous best bound $O(mn^{\omega})$ for deterministic algorithms, where $\omega\ge2$ denotes the matrix multiplication exponent.

Reduction theorem for Poisson manifolds with Hamiltonian Lie algebroids is presented. The notion of compatibility of a momentum section is introduced to the category of Hamiltonian Lie algebroids over Poisson manifolds. It is shown that a compatible momentum section is a Lie algebra homomorphism, and then the quotient space of the zero level set of a compatible momentum section proves to be a Poisson manifold., Comment: 10 pages

This study presents a novel contact detection system for "Parablade," a chambara-based, sword-play augmented sport. Augmented sports combine physical activities with virtual parameters (VPs) to create a balanced and equitable gaming experience, irrespective of players' physical capabilities. The proposed Parablade Microphone Unit (PMU) employs multiple micro-phones and machine learning algorithms to detect and classify hit events through sound recogni-tion. This system aims to ensure real-time updates of VPs, thereby enhancing the gameplay expe-rience. The purpose of this paper is to celebrate Sir D. Payne's 80th birthday by dedicating our latest results as a continuation of his work in optical communications. One of the important issues in optical communications is to protect the transmission information data passing through optical fiber channels. Many ideas have been proposed and are being actively developed to implement in the physical layer of ultra-high-speed communications. As a representative example, a methodology that achieves this goal by fusing modulation techniques in ordinary optical communications and mathematical cipher is being actively studied. To further clarify this advantage, a theoretical concept has been proposed to solve the problem by adopting a PPM code format. However, this scheme has several difficulties at the implementation stage. A four-field reduced model of single helicity, incompressible MHD is derived in cylindrical geometry. An appropriate set of noncanonical variables is found, and the Hamiltonian, the Lie-Poisson bracket and the Casimir invariants are clarified. Detailed proofs of properties of the Lie-Poisson bracket, (i) antisymmetry, (ii) Leibniz rule, and (iii) Jacobi identity, are given. We present a catalog of clouds identified from the $^{12}$CO (1--0) data of M83, which was observed using Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) with a spatial resolution of $\sim$46 pc and a mass sensitivity of $\sim$10$^4$ $M_{\odot}$ (3 $\sigma$). The almost full-disk coverage and high sensitivity of the data allowed us to sample 5724 molecular clouds with a median mass of $\sim1.9$ $\times$ $10^5$ $M_{\odot}$, which is comparable to the most frequently sampled mass of Giant Molecular Clouds by surveys in the Milky Way. About 60 percent of the total CO luminosity in M83's disk arises from clouds more massive than 10$^6$ $M_{\odot}$. Such massive clouds comprise 16 percent of the total clouds in number and tend to concentrate toward the arm, bar, and center, while smaller clouds are more prevalent in inter-arm regions. Most $>10^6$ $M_{\odot}$ clouds have peak brightness temperatures $T_{\mathrm{peak}}$ above 2 K with the current resolution. Comparing the observed cloud properties with the scaling relations determined by Solomon et al. 1987 (S87), $T_{\mathrm{peak}}$$>2$ K clouds follow the relations, but $T_{\mathrm{peak}}$$<2$ K clouds, which are dominant in number, deviate significantly. Without considering the effect of beam dilution, the deviations would suggest modestly high virial parameters and low surface mass densities for the entire cloud samples, which are similar to values found for the Milky Way clouds by Rice et al. (2016) and Miville-Desch{\^e}nes et al. (2017). However, once beam dilution is taken into account, the observed $\alpha_{\mathrm{vir}}$ and $\Sigma$ for a majority of the clouds (mostly $T_{\mathrm{peak}}$ $<2$ K) can be potentially explained with intrinsic $\Sigma$ of $\sim$100 $M_{\mathrm{\odot}}\ \mathrm{pc}^{-2}$ and $\alpha_{\mathrm{vir}}$ of $\sim$1, which are similar to the clouds of S87., Comment: Accepted for publication in ApJ

The applicability of relativistic magnetohydrodynamics (RMHD) and its generalization to two-fluid models (including the Hall and inertial effects) is systematically investigated by using the method of dominant balance in the two-fluid equations. Although proper charge neutrality or quasi-neutrality is the key assumption for all MHD models, this condition is difficult to be met when both relativistic and inertial effects are taken into account. The range of application for each MHD model is illustrated in the space of dimensionless scale parameters. Moreover, the number of field variables of relativistic Hall MHD (RHMHD) is shown to be greater than that of RMHD and Hall MHD. Nevertheless, the RHMHD equations may be solved at a lower computational cost than RMHD in the limit of cold plasma, since root-finding algorithm, which is the most time-consuming part of the RMHD code, is no longer required to compute the primitive variables.

HMYSOs gain most of their mass in short bursts of accretion. Maser emission is an invaluable tool in discovering and probing accretion bursts. We observed the 22 GHz water maser response induced by the accretion burst in NGC6334I-MM1B and identified the underlying maser variability mechanisms. We report seven epochs of VLBI observations of 22 GHz water masers in NGC6334I with the VERA array, from 2014 to 2016, spanning the onset of the accretion burst in 2015.1. We also report 2019 ALMA observations of 321 GHz water masers and 22 GHz maser monitoring by HartRAO. We analyze variability patterns and use proper motions with the 22 GHz to 321 GHz line ratio to distinguish between masers in C-shocks and J-shocks. We also calculated the burst-to-quiescent variance ratio of the single-dish time series. The constant mean proper motion before and after the burst indicates that maser variability is due to excitation effects from variable radiation rather than jet ejecta. We find that the flux density variance ratio in the single-dish time series can identify maser efficiency variations in 22 GHz masers. The northern region, CM2-W2, is excited in C-shocks and showed long-term flaring with velocity-dependent excitation of new maser features. We propose that radiative heating of H2 due to high-energy radiation from the accretion burst be the mechanism for the flaring in CM2-W2. The southern regions are excited by J-shocks and have short-term flaring and dampening of water masers. We attributed the diverse variability patterns in the southern regions to the radiative transfer of the burst energy in the source. Our results indicate that the effects of source geometry, shock type, and incident radiation spectrum are fundamental factors affecting 22 GHz maser variability. Large-scale vision-language models, such as CLIP, are known to contain societal bias regarding protected attributes (e.g., gender, age). This paper aims to address the problems of societal bias in CLIP. Although previous studies have proposed to debias societal bias through adversarial learning or test-time projecting, our comprehensive study of these works identifies two critical limitations: 1) loss of attribute information when it is explicitly disclosed in the input and 2) use of the attribute annotations during debiasing process. To mitigate societal bias in CLIP and overcome these limitations simultaneously, we introduce a simple-yet-effective debiasing method called SANER (societal attribute neutralizer) that eliminates attribute information from CLIP text features only of attribute-neutral descriptions. Experimental results show that SANER, which does not require attribute annotations and preserves original information for attribute-specific descriptions, demonstrates superior debiasing ability than the existing methods. Additionally, we observe that SANER does not require retraining CLIP from scratch with the original dataset. Moreover, the debiased model can be directly applied to the text-to-image generation model by simply replacing the text encoder.

We present ALMA observations of SiO, SiS, H$_2$O , NaCl, and SO line emission at ~30 to 50 mas resolution. These images map the molecular outflow and disk of Orion Source I (SrcI) on ~12 to 20 AU scales. Our observations show that the flow of material around SrcI creates a turbulent boundary layer in the outflow from SrcI which may dissipate angular momentum in the rotating molecular outflow into the surrounding medium. Additionally, the data suggests that the proper motion of SrcI may have a significant effect on the structure and evolution of SrcI and its molecular outflow. As the motion of SrcI funnels material between the disk and the outflow, some material may be entrained into the outflow and accrete onto the disk, creating shocks which excite the NaCl close to the disk surface., Comment: Accepted in The Astrophysical Journal

In social decision-making among strategic agents, a universal focus lies on the balance between social and individual interests. Socially efficient mechanisms are thus desirably designed to not only maximize the social welfare but also incentivize the agents for their own profit. Under a generalized model that includes applications such as double auctions and trading networks, this study establishes a socially efficient (SE), dominant-strategy incentive compatible (DSIC), and individually rational (IR) mechanism with the minimum total budget expensed to the agents. The present method exploits discrete and known type domains to reduce a set of constraints into the shortest path problem in a weighted graph. In addition to theoretical derivation, we substantiate the optimality of the proposed mechanism through numerical experiments, where it certifies strictly lower budget than Vickery-Clarke-Groves (VCG) mechanisms for a wide class of instances.

Recent observations suggest that planets formation starts early, in protostellar disks of $\le10^5$ yrs, which are characterized by strong interactions with the environment, e.g., through accretion streamers and molecular outflows. To investigate the impact of such phenomena on disk physical and chemical properties it is key to understand what chemistry planets inherit from their natal environment. In the context of the ALMA Large Program Fifty AU STudy of the chemistry in the disk/envelope system of Solar-like protostars (FAUST), we present observations on scales from ~1500 au to ~60 au of H$_2$CO, HDCO, and D$_2$CO towards the young planet-forming disk IRS~63. H$_2$CO probes the gas in the disk as well as in a large scale streamer (~1500 au) impacting onto the South-East (SE) disk side. We detect for the first time deuterated formaldehyde, HDCO and D$_2$CO, in a planet-forming disk, and HDCO in the streamer that is feeding it. This allows us to estimate the deuterium fractionation of H$_2$CO in the disk: [HDCO]/[H$_2$CO]$\sim0.1-0.3$ and [D$_2$CO]/[H$_2$CO]$\sim0.1$. Interestingly, while HDCO follows the H$_2$CO distribution in the disk and in the streamer, the distribution of D$_2$CO is highly asymmetric, with a peak of the emission (and [D]/[H] ratio) in the SE disk side, where the streamer crashes onto the disk. In addition, D$_2$CO is detected in two spots along the blue- and red-shifted outflow. This suggests that: (i) in the disk, HDCO formation is dominated by gas-phase reactions similarly to H$_2$CO, while (ii) D$_2$CO was mainly formed on the grain mantles during the prestellar phase and/or in the disk itself, and is at present released in the gas-phase in the shocks driven by the streamer and the outflow. We tackle societal bias in image-text datasets by removing spurious correlations between protected groups and image attributes. Traditional methods only target labeled attributes, ignoring biases from unlabeled ones. Using text-guided inpainting models, our approach ensures protected group independence from all attributes and mitigates inpainting biases through data filtering. Evaluations on multi-label image classification and image captioning tasks show our method effectively reduces bias without compromising performance across various models.

Large language models (LLMs) have enhanced the capacity of vision-language models to caption visual text. This generative approach to image caption enrichment further makes textual captions more descriptive, improving alignment with the visual context. However, while many studies focus on benefits of generative caption enrichment (GCE), are there any negative side effects? We compare standard-format captions and recent GCE processes from the perspectives of "gender bias" and "hallucination", showing that enriched captions suffer from increased gender bias and hallucination. Furthermore, models trained on these enriched captions amplify gender bias by an average of 30.9% and increase hallucination by 59.5%. This study serves as a caution against the trend of making captions more descriptive.

The Black Hole Explorer (BHEX) is a next-generation space very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) mission concept that will extend the ground-based millimeter/submillimeter arrays into space. The mission, closely aligned with the science priorities of the Japanese VLBI community, involves an active engagement of this community in the development of the mission, resulting in the formation of the Black Hole Explorer Japan Consortium. Here we present the current Japanese vision for the mission, ranging from scientific objectives to instrumentation. The Consortium anticipates a wide range of scientific investigations, from diverse black hole physics and astrophysics studied through the primary VLBI mode, to the molecular universe explored via a potential single-dish observation mode in the previously unexplored 50-70\,GHz band that would make BHEX the highest-sensitivity explorer ever of molecular oxygen. A potential major contribution for the onboard instrument involves supplying essential elements for its high-sensitivity dual-band receiving system, which includes a broadband 300\,GHz SIS mixer and a space-certified multi-stage 4.5K cryocooler akin to those used in the Hitomi and XRISM satellites by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. The exploration of outflows in protobinary systems presents a challenging yet crucial endeavour, offering valuable insights into the dynamic interplay between protostars and their evolution. In this study, we examine the morphology and dynamics of jets and outflows within the IRAS\,4A protobinary system. This analysis is based on ALMA observations of SiO(5--4), H$_2$CO(3$_{0,3}$--2$_{0,3}$), and HDCO(4$_{1,4}$--3$_{1,3}$) with a spatial resolution of $\sim$150\,au. Leveraging an astrochemical approach involving the use of diverse tracers beyond traditional ones has enabled the identification of novel features and a comprehensive understanding of the broader outflow dynamics. Our analysis reveals the presence of two jets in the redshifted emission, emanating from IRAS\,4A1 and IRAS\,4A2, respectively. Furthermore, we identify four distinct outflows in the region for the first time, with each protostar, 4A1 and 4A2, contributing to two of them. We characterise the morphology and orientation of each outflow, challenging previous suggestions of bends in their trajectories. The outflow cavities of IRAS\,4A1 exhibit extensions of 10$''$ and 13$''$ with position angles (PA) of 0$^{\circ}$ and -12$^{\circ}$, respectively, while those of IRAS\,4A2 are more extended, spanning 18$''$ and 25$''$ with PAs of 29$^{\circ}$ and 26$^{\circ}$. We propose that the misalignment of the cavities is due to a jet precession in each protostar, a notion supported by the observation that the more extended cavities of the same source exhibit lower velocities, indicating they may stem from older ejection events.

In a Hamiltonian Lie algebroid over a pre-symplectic manifold and over a Poisson manifold, we introduce a map corresponding to a comomentum map, called a comomentum section. We show that the comomentum section gives a Lie algebroid morphism among Lie algebroids. Moreover, we prove that a momentum section on a Hamiltonian Lie algebroid is a Poisson map between proper Poisson manifolds, which is a generalization that a momentum map is a Poisson map between the symplectic manifold to dual of the Lie algebra. The nearby elliptical galaxy M87 contains one of the only two supermassive black holes whose emission surrounding the event horizon has been imaged by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT). In 2018, more than two dozen multi-wavelength (MWL) facilities (from radio to gamma-ray energies) took part in the second M87 EHT campaign. The goal of this extensive MWL campaign was to better understand the physics of the accreting black hole M87*, the relationship between the inflow and inner jets, and the high-energy particle acceleration. Understanding the complex astrophysics is also a necessary first step towards performing further tests of general relativity. The MWL campaign took place in April 2018, overlapping with the EHT M87* observations. We present a new, contemporaneous spectral energy distribution (SED) ranging from radio to very high energy (VHE) gamma-rays, as well as details of the individual observations and light curves. We also conduct phenomenological modelling to investigate the basic source properties. We present the first VHE gamma-ray flare from M87 detected since 2010. The flux above 350 GeV has more than doubled within a period of about 36 hours. We find that the X-ray flux is enhanced by about a factor of two compared to 2017, while the radio and millimetre core fluxes are consistent between 2017 and 2018. We detect evidence for a monotonically increasing jet position angle that corresponds to variations in the bright spot of the EHT image. Our results show the value of continued MWL monitoring together with precision imaging for addressing the origins of high-energy particle acceleration. We analyze the CO-to-H$_2$ conversion factor ($\alpha_{\rm{CO}}$) in the nearby barred spiral galaxy M83. We present new HI observations from the JVLA and single-dish GBT in the disk of the galaxy, and combine them with maps of CO(1-0) integrated intensity and dust surface density from the literature. $\alpha_{\rm{CO}}$ and the gas-to-dust ratio ($\delta_{\rm{GDR}}$) are simultaneously derived in annuli of 2 kpc width from R = 1-7 kpc. We find that $\alpha_{\rm{CO}}$ and $\delta_{\rm{GDR}}$ both increase radially, by a factor of $\sim$ 2-3 from the center to the outskirts of the disk. The luminosity-weighted averages over the disk are $\alpha_{\rm{CO}} = 3.14$ (2.06, 4.96) M$_{\odot}$ pc$^{-2}$[K$\cdot$ km s$^{-1}$]$^{-1}$ and $\delta_{\rm{GDR}}$ = 137 (111, 182) at the 68% (1$\sigma$) confidence level. These are consistent with the $\alpha_{\rm{CO}}$ and $\delta_{\rm{GDR}}$ values measured in the Milky Way. In addition to possible variations of $\alpha_{\rm{CO}}$ due to the radial metallicity gradient, we test the possibility of variations in $\alpha_{\rm{CO}}$ due to changes in the underlying cloud populations, as a function of galactic radius. Using a truncated power-law molecular cloud CO luminosity function and an empirical power-law relation for cloud-mass and luminosity, we show that the changes in the underlying cloud population may account for a factor of $\sim 1.5-2.0$ radial change in $\alpha_{\rm{CO}}$., Comment: Accepted for publication in ApJ

We prove that every surjective phase-isometry $T\colon C_0^+(X,\mathbb{R}) \to C_0^+(Y,\mathbb{R})$ between the positive cones of $C_0(X,\mathbb{R})$ and $C_0(Y,\mathbb{R})$ is a composition operator induced by a homeomorphism between $X$ and $Y$. Furthermore, we show that any surjective phase-isometry $T\colon C_0^+(X,\mathbb{R}) \to C_0^+(Y,\mathbb{R})$ extends to a surjective linear isometry from $C_0(X,\mathbb{R})$ onto $C_0(Y,\mathbb{R})$.
