Physics::Geophysics - Abstract
The deformation of the surface of the earth is triggered by numerous naturally occurring and artificial processes such as global isostatic adjustment, aseismic and coseismic movement, varying amounts of groundwater or gas stored underground, and soil consolidation due to urbanization. Monitoring these surface deformations is essential to understand the underlying processes and provide authorities and the public with hazard assessments. Remote sensing techniques, such as Persistent Scatterer Interferometry (PSI), have the capability of mapping these deformations. Besides a spatial analysis of the deformation patterns, PSI also provides information on their temporal evolution. Post-processing strategies to analyze the displacement time series have gained interest in recent years. This paper presents our PSI post-processing strategy, which incorporates different deformation models and automatically chooses the best-fitting one based on statistical tests.

The use of drones to explore indoor spaces has gained attention and popularity for disaster management and indoor navigation applications. In this paper we present the operations and mapping techniques of two drones that are different in terms of size, the sensors deployed, and the positioning and mapping techniques used. The first drone is a low-cost commercial quadcopter microdrone, a Crazyflie, while the second drone is a relatively expensive research quadcopter macrodrone, called MAX. We investigated their feasibility in mapping areas where satellite positioning is not available, such as indoor spaces. We compared the point clouds obtained by a multi-ranger deck, a multi-layer LIDAR scanner and a stereo camera, and assessed each against ground truth obtained with a terrestrial laser scanner. Results showed that both drones are capable of mapping relatively cluttered indoor environments and can provide point clouds that are sufficient for a quick exploration. Furthermore, the LIDAR scanner-based system can handle a relatively large office environment with an accumulated drift less than 0.02% (1 cm) on the Z-axis and 0.77% (50 cm) on the X and Y axes over a length trajectory of about 65 m. Despite the limited features of the sensor configuration of the Crazyflie, its performance is promising for mapping indoor spaces, given the relatively low deviation from the ground truth: cloud-to-cloud distances measured were generally less than 20 cm.

- Abstract
In contrast to stationary systems, mobile robots have an arbitrarily expandable workspace. As a result, the spatial dimensioning of the task to be mastered plays only a subordinate role and can be scaled as desired. For the construction industry in particular, which requires the handling and production of substantial components, mobile robots mean an unlimited expansion of the workspace based on their mobility levels and thus increased flexibility. The greatest challenge in mobile robotics lies with the discrepancy between the precision required for the task and the achievable positioning accuracy. External localization systems show significant potential for improvement in this respect but, in many cases, require a line of sight between the measurement system and the robot or a time-consuming calibration of markers. Therefore, this article presents an approach for an onboard localization system for use in a multi-step additive manufacturing processes for building construction. While a SLAM algorithm is used for the initial estimation of the robot's base at the work site, in a refined estimation step, the positioning accuracy is enhanced using a 2D-laser-scanner. This 2D-scanner is used to create a 3D point cloud of the 3D-printed component each time after a print job of one segment has been carried out and before continuing a print job from a new location, to enable printing of layers on top of each other with sufficient accuracy over many repositioning manouvres. When the robot returns to a position for print continuation, the initial and the new point clouds are compared using an ICP-algorithm, and the resulting transformation is used to refine the robot's pose estimation relative to the 3D-printed building component. While initial experiments demonstrate the approach's potential, transferring it to large-scale 3D-printed components presents additional challenges, highlighted in this paper.

- Abstract
The very high-resolution space imagery now competes with some functions that were previously solved with aerial images. Several very high-resolution optical satellites with a ground sampling distance (GSD) of 1 m and smaller are currently active. Not all of these satellites take images worldwide. Nevertheless, it is not a problem to obtain up-to-date satellite images with a very high resolution. Mapping projects not only need to consider access and quality, but also cost-effectiveness. Of course, the economic framework conditions are decisive for the decision as to whether space images or very high-resolution satellite images should be used. With a total 21 SkySat satellites, low-cost satellites with very high resolution have changed the economic conditions. To keep costs and weights down, the Skysat satellites were not designed to offer the best direct geo-referencing performance, but this problem can be solved by automatic orientation in relation to existing orthoimages. In North Rhine-Westphalia, the cadastral maps must be checked at regular intervals to ensure that the buildings are complete. A test project examined whether this is possible with SkySat images. The geometric conditions and the image quality with the effective ground resolutions are investigated. Experiences from earlier publications could not be used. First the specific problem had to be solved, the resolution of the SkySat images was improved by lowering the satellite orbit altitude from 500 km to 450 km and by a better super resolution with 0.50 m ground sampling distance for the SkySat Collect orthoimages and in addition Planet improved their generation of Collect images. The required standard deviation of the object details of 4 m was achieved clearly as the effective ground resolution of 0.5 m if the angle of incidence is below 20°.

Cardiology and Cardiovascular Medicine - Abstract
Background Measurement of ventricular volumes and function by steady-state free precession (SSFP) cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) is an important diagnostic tool in the treatment and follow-up of paediatric congenital heart disease. However, normal values are rare and the CMR analysis methods are inconsistent. Aims We sought to create two sets of ventricular normal values for different CMR analysis (contouring) methods. Methods In a retrospective study design, CMR data sets of 154 healthy children with an age range between 4 and 18 years from two centers in the UK and Germany were evaluated. Left and right ventricular end-diastolic and end-systolic volumes (LVEDV, LVESV, RVEDV, RVESV), ejection fraction (RVEF, LVEF) and myocardial mass (LVMM, RVMM) were analysed from short axis steady-state free precession images by using two different analysis techniques: 1) papillary muscles, myocardial trabeculations and the moderator band were included in the ventricular volume and excluded from the ventricular mass (Figure 1), 2) papillary muscles, myocardial trabeculations and the moderator band were excluded from the ventricular volume and included in the ventricular mass (Figure 2). Sex-specific reference curves were created separately for both ventricular contouring methods using the lambda mu sigma method. Correlations between variables were analyzed with the Spearman's rank correlation. Contouring methods were compared through Bland-Altman analysis. Results The mean age was 13.85±2.8 years (53 girls). In children from 4 to 10 years average ventricular volumes and mass normalized for body surface area (BSA) measured: In children from 11 to 18 years average ventricular volumes and mass measured: Separate centile charts and centile tables for boys and girls for all cardiac parameters were created. Conclusion We provide paediatric CMR reference values for biventricular volumes, ejection and masses for two different CMR contouring methods. They can be used in the diagnosis and follow-up of congenital or acquired heart disease in children and for research purposes. Funding Acknowledgement Type of funding sources: None. Figure 1Figure 2

Introduction: Transanal total mesorectal excision (TaTME) has rapidly emerged as a novel approach for rectal cancer surgery. Safety profiles are still emerging and more comparative data is urgently needed. This study aimed to compare indications and short-term outcomes of TaTME, open, laparoscopic, and robotic TME internationally. Methods: A pre-planned analysis of the European Society of Coloproctology (ESCP) 2017 audit was performed. Patients undergoing elective total mesorectal excision (TME) for malignancy between 1 January 2017 and 15 March 2017 by any operative approach were included. The primary outcome measure was anastomotic leak. Results: Of 2579 included patients, 76.2% (1966/2579) underwent TME with restorative anastomosis of which 19.9% (312/1966) had a minimally invasive approach (laparoscopic or robotic) which included a transanal component (TaTME). Overall, 9.0% (175/1951, 15 missing outcome data) of patients suffered an anastomotic leak. On univariate analysis both laparoscopic TaTME (OR 1.61, 1.02–2.48, P=0.04) and robotic TaTME (OR 3.05, 1.10–7.34, P=0.02) were associated with a higher risk of anastomotic leak than non-transanal laparoscopic TME. However this association was lost in the mixed-effects model controlling for patient and disease factors (OR 1.23, 0.77–1.97, P=0.39 and OR 2.11, 0.79–5.62, P=0.14 respectively), whilst low rectal anastomosis (OR 2.72, 1.55–4.77, P

With the emergence of low-cost robotic systems, such as unmanned aerial vehicle, the importance of embedded high-performance image processing has increased. For a long time, FPGAs were the only processing hardware that were capable of high-performance computing, while at the same time preserving a low power consumption, essential for embedded systems. However, the recently increasing availability of embedded GPU-based systems, such as the NVIDIA Jetson series, comprised of an ARM CPU and a NVIDIA Tegra GPU, allows for massively parallel embedded computing on graphics hardware. With this in mind, we propose an approach for real-time embedded stereo processing on ARM and CUDA-enabled devices, which is based on the popular and widely used Semi-Global Matching algorithm. In this, we propose an optimization of the algorithm for embedded CUDA GPUs, by using massively parallel computing, as well as using the NEON intrinsics to optimize the algorithm for vectorized SIMD processing on embedded ARM CPUs. We have evaluated our approach with different configurations on two public stereo benchmark datasets to demonstrate that they can reach an error rate as low as 3.3%. Furthermore, our experiments show that the fastest configuration of our approach reaches up to 46 FPS on VGA image resolution. Finally, in a use-case specific qualitative evaluation, we have evaluated the power consumption of our approach and deployed it on the DJI Manifold 2-G attached to a DJI Matrix 210v2 RTK unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), demonstrating its suitability for real-time stereo processing onboard a UAV.

The coastline of the German Wadden Sea is constantly subjected to the tides and the tidal-induced environmental changes like erosion and accumulation of sediments need to be monitored constantly. This task requires digital elevation models (DEMs), which are derived from remote sensing data. To model those DEMs, a separation of data collected over landmasses and water bodies is required. In the GeoWAM project the potential of airborne SAR-data (F-SAR) is investigated for monitoring purposes in the Wadden Sea. As part of the project, this paper focuses on the suitability of F-SAR data regarding the derivation of water-land-boundaries (WLBs). Therefore, water-land-boundaries based on independent data sets are compared and evaluated. Analyzed data sets include data collected via F-SAR, airborne laserscanning (ALS), on site GNSS measured WLB points and sea-level data from two acoustic gauges. The algorithms were tested on a study site on Spiekeroog island. Our results show, that the accuracies of the derived WLBs mostly depend on the on-site topography and sediments. The spatial deviation between the reference data and the approximated WLBs is mostly less than 2 m horizontally and 0.15 m vertically. Identified challenges to overcome are mostly related to processing of F-SAR data in areas with highly water saturated sediments. Our results suggest, that F-SAR data in tidal flats is not necessarily dependent on further supplementing surveys, as one of the main advantages of the F-SAR data is the potential to derive DEMs and WLBs from the same data set.

The G protein-coupled adenosine A2B receptor is suggested to be involved in various patholog-ical processes accompanied by increased levels of adenosine as found in inflammation, hypoxia, and cancer. Therefore, the adenosine A2B receptor is currently in the focus as a novel target for cancer therapy as well as for noninvasive molecular imaging via positron emission tomography (PET). Aiming at the development of a radiotracer labeled with the PET radionuclide fluorine-18 for imaging the adenosine A2B receptor in brain tumors, one of the most potent and selective an-tagonists, the xanthine derivative PSB-603, was selected as a lead compound. As initial biodis-tribution studies in mice revealed a negligible brain uptake of [3H]PSB-603 (SUV3min: 0.2), struc-tural modifications were performed to optimize the physicochemical properties regarding blood-brain barrier penetration. Two novel fluorinated derivatives bearing a 2-fluoropyridine (7) and a 4-fluoropiperidine (8) moiety have been synthesized, and their affinities for the four adenosine receptor subtypes were determined in competition binding assays. Both compounds showed high affinity towards the adenosine A2B receptor (Ki (7) = 9.97 ± 0.86 nM; Ki (8) = 12.3 ± 3.6 nM) with moderate selectivities versus the other adenosine receptor subtypes.

Mobile Laser Scanning ,SLAM ,IMU ,Indoor Mapping ,6DOF Pose Estimation - Abstract
In recent years, the importance of indoor mapping increased in a wide range of applications, such as facility management and mapping hazardous sites. The essential technique behind indoor mapping is simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) because SLAM offers suitable positioning estimates in environments where satellite positioning is not available. State-of-the-art indoor mobile mapping systems employ Visual-based SLAM or LiDAR-based SLAM. However, Visual-based SLAM is sensitive to textureless environments and, similarly, LiDAR-based SLAM is sensitive to a number of pose configurations where the geometry of laser observations is not strong enough to reliably estimate the six-degree-of-freedom (6DOF) pose of the system. In this paper, we present different strategies that utilize the benefits of the inertial measurement unit (IMU) in the pose estimation and support LiDAR-based SLAM in overcoming these problems. The proposed strategies have been implemented and tested using different datasets and our experimental results demonstrate that the proposed methods do indeed overcome these problems. We conclude that IMU observations increase the robustness of SLAM, which is expected, but also that the best reconstruction accuracy is obtained not with a blind use of all observations but by filtering the measurements with a proposed reliability measure. To this end, our results show promising improvements in reconstruction accuracy.

- Abstract
The PolSAR calibration ensures that the relationship between the SAR observations and the target characteristics on the ground are consistent and resembles the theoretical estimation which in turn improves the overall data quality. Essentially, calibration prevents the propagation of uncertainty into further analysis to characterise the target. In this study, the UAVSAR L-Band data of Rosamond dry lake bed has been calibrated. The calibration of amplitude and phase are carried out with the help of the corner reflector array present in the Rosamond site. The dataset is further calibrated for the crosstalk and channel imbalance using the Quegan’s distortion model. Since the crosstalk distortion model requires an accurate estimation of the covariance matrix, the optimal kernel size for the its computation is selected based on the distortion model behaviour with varying window sizes. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the calibration process has been studied using polarimetric signatures and other statistical measures.

image resection ,exterior orientation ,oblique angle ,equirectangular image ,mobile mapping systems ,camera pose - Abstract
Mobile mapping systems MMS equipped with cameras and laser scanners are widely used nowadays for different geospatial applications with centimetric accuracy either in project wise or national wise scales. The achieved positioning accuracy is very much related to the navigation unit, namely the GNSS and IMU onboard. Accordingly, in GNSS denied and degraded environments, the absolute positioning accuracy is worsened to few meters in some cases. Frequently, ground control points GCPs of a high positioning accuracy are used to align the MMS trajectories and to improve the accuracy when needed. The best way to integrate the MMS trajectories to the GCPs is by measuring them on the MMS images where the positioning accuracy is dropped. MMS images are mostly spherical panoramic (equirectangular) images and sometimes perspective and, in both types, it is required to precisely determine the images orientation in what is called as space resection or camera pose determination. For perspective images, the pose is conventionally determined by collinearity equations or by using projection and fundamental matrices. Whereas for equirectangular panoramic images it is based on resecting vertical and horizontal angles. However, there is still a challenge in the state–of–the–art of image pose determination because of the model nonlinearity and the sensitivity to proper initialization and spatial distribution of the points. In this research, a generic method is presented to solve the pose resection problem for the perspective and equirectangular images using oblique angles. The oblique angles are derived from the measured image coordinates and based on spherical trigonometry rules and vector geometry. The developed algorithm has proven to be highly stable and steadily converge to the global minimum. This is related to the robust geometric constraint offered by the oblique angles that are enclosed between the object points and the camera. As a result, the MMS trajectories are realigned accurately to the GCPs and the absolute accuracy is highly refined. Four experimental tests are presented where the results show the efficiency of the proposed angular based model in different cases of simulated and real data with different image types

The application of UAV-based aerial imagery has advanced exponentially in the past two decades. This can be attributed to UAV operational flexibility, ultra-high spatial resolution, inexpensiveness, and UAV-based sensors enhancement. Nonetheless, the application of multitemporal series of multispectral UAV imagery still suffers significant misregistration errors, and therefore becoming a concern for applications such as precision agriculture. Direct image georeferencing and co-registration is commonly done using ground control points; this is usually costly and time consuming. This research proposes a novel approach for automatic co-registration of multitemporal UAV imagery using intensity-based keypoints. The Speeded Up Robust Features (SURF), Binary Robust Invariant Scalable Keypoints (BRISK), Maximally Stable Extremal Regions (MSER) and KAZE algorithms, were tested and parameters optimized. Image matching performance of these algorithms informed the decision to pursue further experiments with only SURF and KAZE. Optimally parametrized SURF and KAZE algorithms obtained co-registration accuracies of 0.1 and 0.3 pixels for intra-epoch and inter-epoch images respectively. To obtain better intra-epoch co-registration accuracy, collective band processing is advised whereas one-to-one matching strategy is recommended for inter-epoch co-registration. The results were tested using a maize crop monitoring case and the; comparison of spectral response of vegetation between the UAV sensors, Parrot Sequoia and Micro MCA was performed. Due to the missing incidence sensor, spectral and radiometric calibration of Micro MCA imagery is observed to be key in achieving optimal response. Also, the cameras have different specifications and thus differ in the quality of their respective photogrammetric outputs.

- Abstract
OpenStreetMap (OSM), with its global coverage and Open Database License, has recently gained popularity. Its quality is adequate for many applications, but since it is crowd-sourced, errors remain an issue. Errors in associated tags of the road network, for example, are impacting routing applications. Particularly road classification errors of ten lead to false assumptions about capacity, maximum speed, or road quality, possibly resulting in detours for routing applications. This study aims at finding potential classifi cation errors automatically, which can then be checked and corrected by a human expert. We develop a novel approach to detect road classification errors in OSM by searching for disconnected parts and gaps in different levels of a hierarchical road network. Different parameters are identified that indicate gaps in road networks. These parameters are then combined in a rating system to obtain an error probability to suggest possible misclassifi cations to a human user. The methodology is applied to an exemplar case for the state of New South Wales in Australia. The results demonstrate that (1) more classification errors are found at gaps than at disconnected parts, and (2) the gap search enables the user to find classification errors quickly using the developed rating system that indicates an error probability. In future work, the methodology can be extended to include available tags in OSM for the rating system. The source code of the implementation is available via GitHub.

- Abstract
Height models are a fundamental part of the geo-information required for various applications. The determination of height models by aerial photogrammetry, LiDAR or space images is time-consuming and expensive. For height models with large area coverage, UAVs are not economic. The freely available height models ASTER GDEM-3, SRTM, AW3D30 and TDM90 can meet various requirements. With the exception of ASTER-GDEM-3, which cannot compete with the other, the digital surface models SRTM, AW3D30 and TDM90 are analyzed in detail for accuracy and morphology in 4 test sites using LiDAR reference DTMs. The accuracy figures root mean square error, standard deviation, NMAD and LE90 are compared as well as the accuracy dependence on the terrain inclination. The analysis uses a layer for the open areas, excluding forest and settlement areas. Remaining elements that do not belong to a DTM are filtered. Particular attention is paid to systematic errors. The InSAR height models SRTM and TDM90 have some accuracy and morphological restrictions in mountain and settlement areas. Even so, the direct sensor orientation of TDM90 is better than for the other. Optimal results in terms of accuracy and morphology were achieved with AW3D30 corrected by TDM90 for the local absolute height level. This correction reduces the bias and also the tilt of the height models compared to the reference LiDAR DTM.
