Abstract

A continuously steerable beam patch antenna array employing a classical phase shifter based on GaN HEMTs is presented. Here, the GaN HEMTs are used as varactor diodes to achieve the tunability purpose. By controlling the DC bias of these varactors from −2 V to 2 V, the proposed array antenna can provide continuous beam steering from 0° to +25° in the azimuth plane at 41.20 GHz, while achieving a low side-lobe level and good impedance matching performances. Using GaN HEMTs as varactors to achieve beam steering capability has never been tried before to the best of our knowledge. The measurement results agree well with the simulation results and validate the effectiveness of the proposed beam steering based on GaN technology. This proposed phased array antenna will find numerous applications within future wireless communications systems, especially for millimeter-wave applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

This paper aims to produce a high data capacity and miniaturized flexible chipless RFID tag based on the frequency signature using the Modified Complementary Split Ring Resonator (MCSRR). The proposed 19 bits chipless RFID tag using the frequency shifting technique consists of five slotted overlaying MCSRR with Different Width (MCSRR with DW) structures and the dimension of 48 mm × 48 mm. The structure is designed by using a flexible (Polyethylene Terephthalate) PET substrate with permittivity of 0.2. The operating frequency is between 0.9 GHz and 2.7 GHz. The advancement of slotted overlaying MCSRR with DW structures has successfully miniaturized the chipless RFID tag structure to about 107 mm2/ bit, 0.02λmid2/bit and 0.09 GHz/bit by maximizing the number of resonators in a limited space and minimizing the frequency separation between the resonators. The omnidirectional tag antenna is incorporated with the proposed MCSRR structure using the retransmission measurement method. The log-periodic antenna with a gain of 5-7 dBi is used for this measurement to improve the range distance between tag and reader system. Based on the retransmission measurement involving the antenna tag, the 19 bits chipless RFID tag which consists of five MCSRR with DW structures can be detected with a maximum range distance of 30 cm and a power transmitted level of 30 dBm.

Abstract

This paper describes the design of a hybrid coupler with a continuously variable output phase difference. This is achieved by using reconfigurable transmission lines with electrically tunable lengths controlled by two biasing voltages through varactor diodes placed across the coupler branches. The design of the coupler is based on the quadrature hybrid structure for the case where the output phase difference is 90° and on the asymmetric structure for the other cases. The proposed coupler can achieve a tunable output phase difference from 52° to 128°, while keeping a coupling coefficient of −3 dB (± 0.5 dB) over the entire desired frequency band. To validate the simulated results, a prototype working at 3.5 GHz was fabricated and tested. The measurement results show good correspondence with the simulation results, especially when the output phase difference is 90°, while a phase mismatch of less than 7° was observed for the other cases. Abstract

International audience; This paper presents a novel microstrip patch antenna design using slots and parasitic strips to operate at the n77 (3.3–4.2 GHz)/n78 (3.3–3.8 GHz) band of sub-6 GHz and n96 (5.9–7.1 GHz) band of sub-7 GHz under 5G New Radio. The proposed antenna is simulated and fabricated using an FR-4 substrate with a relative permittivity of 4.3 and copper of 0.035 mm thickness for the ground and radiating planes. A conventional patch antenna with a slot is also designed and fabricated for comparison. A comprehensive analysis of both designs is carried out to prove the superiority of the proposed antenna over conventional dual-band patch antennas. The proposed antenna achieves a wider bandwidth of 160 MHz at 3.45 GHz and 220 MHz at 5.9 GHz, with gains of 3.83 dBi and 0.576 dBi, respectively, compared to the conventional patch antenna with gains of 2.83 dBi and 0.1 dBi at the two frequencies. Parametric studies are conducted to investigate the effect of the parasitic strip’s width and length on antenna performance. The results of this study have significant implications for the deployment of high-gain compact patch antennas for sub-6 GHz and sub-7 GHz 5G wireless communications and demonstrate the potential of the proposed design to enhance performance and efficiency in these frequency bands.

28. Radiation Beam Width and Beam Direction Electronical Control of Transparent and Compact Vivaldi Antennas

Abstract

A printed Vivaldi antenna that is optically transparent, ultra-wideband (UWB), and reconfigurable has been developed, fabricated, and tested at millimeter wave frequencies. It covers a broad frequency range of 20-30 GHz by using three PIN diodes. The diodes control the current flow to direct the beam of the antenna. The results of numerical simulations and measurements match at millimeter wave frequencies. The design of this antenna is unique as it allows for a reduction in size and ease of integration while also providing the ability to change the radiation pattern by up to 300 degrees, making it suitable for 5G and 6G communications. Additionally, this antenna can also be useful for RF applications that require dynamic switching of radiation patterns and cognitive radio.

The lacunary monocharged anion [{Mo6Cl i8 }Cl a5 □a]− presents concomitantly a strongly electrophilic site and a nucleophilic one. Abstract

International audience; This study investigated the performance of a Mosaic Frequency Selective Surface (MFSS) structure for two different applications: optical transparency and absorber. The MFSS for optical transparency application is comprised of a polycarbonate substrate with permittivity, epsilon(r) of 2.9, and the MFSS for absorber application utilized a Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) substrate with epsilon(r) of 2.7. The MFSS unit cell is composed of a conductive metallic element design that integrates the Koch fractal and the double hexagonal loop for the optical transparency application. Meanwhile, the resistive MFSS unit cell with sheet resistivity of 100 Omega/sq is utilized for the absorber application. A Computer Simulation Technology (CST) Microwave Studio software is employed to carry out the calculation and frequency response analysis for both applications. Based on the results, it was concluded that the transparent MFSS yielded a wideband stopband and passband responses (fractional bandwidth (FBW) > 50%) with a low cross-polarization (-37 dB), and a wideband absorptivity response was achieved with thin MFSS absorber. In addition, the simulated and measured responses of the transparent MFSS achieved well-fitted correlations. The findings indicated that the proposed MFSS unit cell able to provide wideband response for both applications.

Abstract

International audience; The aim of this paper is to investigate the steering mechanism of the beam pattern of a helical antenna using a half-cup plasma reflector. To this end, variations of the radiation characteristics and also the direction of the main beam of the antenna due to changes in the dimensions of the half-cup plasma reflector, including its diameter and height, are numerically computed and analyzed. The simulation results show that using this structure, the beam direction can be altered in 3-D space within a solid angle of +/- 10 degrees. Also, it is highlighted that the half-cup plasma reflector may adversely affect the polarization of the helical antenna. Therefore, a trade-off between polarization and performance of an antenna based on a parametric study has to be made. Thus, in this investigation, the axial ratio of the antenna is also analyzed for each dimension. For demonstration, the study is used for the design of a circularly polarized helical antenna with a half-cup plasma reflector. Good agreement between the numerically calculated and measured results validates the presented study.

Abstract

Dual-band near-field wireless energy transfer (WET) designs outweigh single-band system with regard to either concurrent energy and data transfer or multiple wireless charging standard functionalities. There are two major approaches in resonator designs, namely, multi-coil and single-coil. This chapter presents a review on design constraints for each design approach and rectification techniques available in counteracting impediments of dual-band near-field WET systems. Challenges pertinent to link design are discussed primarily followed by methods implemented to mitigate detrimental impact on performance metrics. Front-end dual-band resonator design methods are accentuated in this chapter in lieu of end-to-end WET system.
