Tiivistelmä. Tämän kandidaatin tutkielman aiheena on yhteisopettajuus ja opettajien hyvinvointi. Tutkielman tavoitteena on selvittää, millaisia vaikutuksia kahden luokanopettajan välisellä yhteisopettajuudella on luokanopettajien hyvinvointiin. Lisäksi haluamme selvittää yhteisopettajuuteen liittyviä haasteita ja niiden hyvinvointivaikutuksia. Kiinnostus aihetta kohtaan heräsi kysymyksestä, toimisiko yhteisopettajuus yhtenä keinona vastata opettajien lisääntyneeseen työuupumukseen. Tutkimusmenetelmänä käytämme kuvailevaa integroivaa kirjallisuuskatsausta, jolloin tutkimuksemme pohjautuu aiempaan tutkimukseen ja kirjallisuuteen. Yhteisopettajuutta voidaan toteuttaa hyvin monenlaisin tavoin, minkä vuoksi sille löytyy useita eri määritelmiä. Tässä tutkielmassa tarkoitamme yhteisopettajuudella kahden tai useamman opettajan tasa-arvoista yhteistyötä, jolloin opettajat vastaavat yhdessä ryhmän opetuksen suunnittelusta, toteutuksesta ja arvioinnista. Avaamme tässä tutkielmassa myös yleisimpiä yhteisopettajuuden malleja sekä opettajuuteen liittyviä hyvinvointiteorioita, jotta tutkielman tulkitseminen olisi yhdenmukaista ja ymmärrettävää. Tutkielmamme tuloksista voidaan päätellä, että yhteisopettajuus parantaa luokanopettajien hyvinvointia muun muassa saadun vertaistuen, vastuun jakamisen, ammatillisen kehittymisen, stressin vähenemisen sekä yhdessä tekemisen ilon kautta. Yhteisopettajuuteen liittyviksi haasteiksi taas nousivat esimerkiksi sopivan opettajaparin löytyminen, tilojen ja yhteisen suunnitteluajan puute, pelko vapaan toimijuuden heikkenemisestä sekä epäonnistumisen pelko. Nämä haasteet toisinaan heijastuvat negatiivisesti opettajien hyvinvointiin. Tutkimuksen valossa näemme kuitenkin yhteisopettajuuden toimivana ratkaisuna luokanopettajien hyvinvoinnin parantamiseen, sillä suuri osa yhteisopettajuuden hyvinvointivaikutuksista oli positiivisia.

Introduction: Contraceptives containing ethinylestradiol (EE) induce changes in the coagulation system and are associated with a risk of venous thromboembolism. However, studies comparing the effects of combined oral contraceptives containing EE and low-potency estrogens (ie, estradiol [E₂] and estradiol valerate [EV]) on coagulation biomarkers are limited. This study represents secondary outcomes of a randomized trial comparing combined oral contraceptives containing EV + dienogest (DNG), EE + DNG, and DNG alone on selected coagulation biomarkers. We could compare the specific effects of the different estrogen components owing to the inclusion of preparations containing the same progestin. Material and methods: We enrolled 59 healthy, 18- to 35-year-old, non-smoking women, of whom three discontinued. The participants were randomly allocated to 9 weeks of continuous treatment with EV 2 mg + DNG 2–3 mg (n = 20), EE 0.03 mg + DNG 2 mg (n = 20), or DNG 2 mg (n = 19). Blood samples were collected at baseline and after 9 weeks. We assessed coagulation in vitro by thrombin generation using the Calibrated Automated Thrombogram. Thrombin generation was evaluated by lag time, time to thrombin peak, thrombin peak, and endogenous thrombin potential in response to tissue factor (1 pm). In vivo coagulation assessment was based on levels of prothrombin fragment 1 + 2 (F1 + 2) (thrombin generation) and D-dimer (fibrin turnover). Clinical trial registration: NCT02352090. Results: Lag time and time to thrombin peak remained unaltered after exposure to EV + DNG, whereas EE + DNG shortened both lag time (mean percentage change −24%, 95% confidence interval [CI] −32% to −15%; p < 0.01) and time to thrombin peak (−26%, 95% CI −37% to −16%; p < 0.01). EV + DNG induced lower thrombin peak and endogenous thrombin potential than EE + DNG (peak; +45%, 95% CI 22%–67% vs +147%,95% CI 96%–198%; p < 0.01, and endogenous thrombin potential; +26%, 95% CI 15%–38% vs +64%, 95% CI 5

The demand for organic products is increasing in Finland. Potato is an important part of the Finnish diet with around 60 kg of potatoes per person consumed annually. The demand for organic potatoes and potato products is also increasing. However, currently less than 2 % of the potato crops are grown organically, and neither the volume nor the quality meets the expectations of the consumers and professional kitchens. Organic potato production faces many challenges including lack of suitable cultivars and fertilisers and difficulties with disease control, all of which may contribute to low yields in organic production. The objective of this on-going study is to promote the production and use of organic potatoes in Northern Ostrobothnia, the northernmost agricultural area in Europe. The project outline and the first year’s results are discussed.

Preeclampsia (PE) is a common vascular disease of pregnancy with genetic predisposition. Dysregulation of the complement system has been implicated, but molecular mechanisms are incompletely understood. In this study, we determined the potential linkage of severe PE to the most central complement gene, C3. Three cohorts of Finnish patients and controls were recruited for a genetic case-control study. Participants were genotyped using Sequenom genotyping and Sanger sequencing. Initially, we studied 259 Finnish patients with severe PE and 426 controls from the Southern Finland PE and the Finnish population-based PE cohorts. We used a custom-made single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) genotyping assay consisting of 98 SNPs in 18 genes that encode components of the complement system. Following the primary screening, C3 was selected as the candidate gene and consequently Sanger sequenced. Fourteen SNPs from C3 were also genotyped by a Sequenom panel in 960 patients with severe PE and 705 controls, including already sequenced individuals. Three of the 43 SNPs observed within C3 were associated with severe PE: rs2287845 (p = 0.038, OR = 1.158), rs366510 (p = 0.039, OR = 1.158), and rs2287848 (p = 0.041, OR = 1.155). We also discovered 16 SNP haplotypes with extreme linkage disequilibrium in the middle of the gene with a protective (p = 0.044, OR = 0.628) or a predisposing (p = 0.011, OR = 2.110) effect to severe PE depending on the allele combination. Genetic variants associated with PE are located in key domains of C3 and could thereby influence the function of C3. This is, as far as we are aware, the first candidate gene in the complement system with an association to a clinically relevant PE subphenotype, severe PE. The result highlights a potential role for the complement system in the pathogenesis of PE and may help in defining prognostic and therapeutic subgroups of preeclamptic women.

Introduction: Preeclampsia is a common and partially genetic pregnancy complication characterized by hypertension and proteinuria. Association with cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes has been reported in 9p21 by several genome-wide association studies. It has been hypothesized that cardiometabolic diseases may share common etiology with preeclampsia. Materials and methods: We tested association with the 9p21 region to preeclampsia in the Finnish population by genotyping 23 tagging single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in 15 extended preeclampsia families and in a nationwide cohort consisting of 281 cases and 349 matched controls. Replication was conducted in additional datasets. Results: Four SNPs (rs7044859, rs496892, rs564398 and rs7865618) showed nominal association (p ≤ uncorrected) with preeclampsia in the case-control cohort. To increase power, we genotyped two SNPs in additional 388 cases and 341 controls from the Finnish Genetics of Preeclampsia Consortium (FINNPEC) cohort. Partial replication was also attempted in a UK cohort (237 cases and 199 controls) and in 74 preeclamptic families from Australia/New Zealand. We were unable to replicate the initial association in the extended Finnish dataset or in the two international cohorts. Conclusions: Our study did not find evidence for the involvement of the 9p21 region in the risk of preeclampsia. Key message: Chromosome 9p21 is not associated with preeclampsia.

The prevalence of self-reported obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS), habitual snoring (HS), daytime sleepiness (DS) and restless legs syndrome (RLS), and their associations with cardiovascular risk factors and depressive symptoms as well as the natural course and associated factors of habitual snoring and restless legs syndrome over a ten-year period were studied. Two different birth cohorts in Northern Finland were investigated. In the Oulu 35 longitudinal research programme study subjects participated in two subsequent surveys conducted in 1996–1998 and 2007–2008 (61–63 and 72–73 years old subjects, respectively). The Oulu 45 study population was examined in 2001–2002 (56–57 years old subjects). The data were gathered by questionnaires, as well as laboratory and clinical measurements. In the Oulu35 study, of the 831 baseline participants, 593 (73%) participated in the first follow-up in 1996–1998 and 457 (55%) participated in both follow-up studies. In the Oulu 45 study, the target population comprised 1 332 subjects, 995 (75%) of whom participated. The prevalence of OSAS was 8% in the 56–57 year-old population, 4% in the 61–63 year old population, and 3% in the 72–73 year old population. These figures were 31%, 26% and 19% for HS, 16%, 9% and 11% for DS, and 18%, 21% and 15% for RLS, respectively. In a ten-year period, half of those who snored in 1996–1998 stopped snoring, and half of those who suffered from restless legs 3–7 nights/week in 1996–98 suffered from this syndrome less than once a week in 2007–2008. The 10-year incidence of new cases of both HS and RLS was 7%. In subjects aged 56–57 and 61–63, the components of the metabolic syndrome and depressive symptoms associated with OSAS and HS, while in the follow-up study, the role of these associations diminished. Male gender was the strongest predictor of the new cases of HS, while depressive symptoms and waist circumference predicted the permanence or incidence of HS. Kymmenen vuoden seurannassa jokaöinen kuorsaaminen vähentyi puoleen niillä henkilöillä, jotka kuorsasivat v. 1996–1998. Vastaavasti 10 vuoden kuluttua niillä henkilöillä, joilla esiintyi levottomia jalkoja 3–7 yönä viikossa v. 1996–1998, esiintyvyys oli vähentynyt alle 1 kertaan viikossa puolella tutkituista. 10 vuoden ilmaantuvuus sekä jokaöiselle kuorsaamiselle että levottomille jaloille oli 7 %. Metabolisen oireyhtymän osatekijät ja depressiiviset oireet olivat yhteydessä obstruktiiviseen uniapneaan ja jokaöiseen kuorsaamiseen sekä 56–57-vuotiailla että 61–63-vuotiailla. The aphid-transmissible Potato virus Y is a major problem in seed potato production (Valkonen , 2007). The aphid flight activity was monitored from mid-June to the end of August with a suction trap and with yellow pan traps in 2007 and 2008. Previous studies have concluded that potato colonising aphids are not the main vectors of Potato virus Y.
