1. Effectiveness of a Voice-Based Mental Health Evaluation System for Mobile Devices: Prospective Study

Abstract

BackgroundWe developed a system for monitoring mental health using voice data from daily phone calls, termed Mind Monitoring System (MIMOSYS), by implementing a method for estimating mental health status from voice data. ObjectiveThe objective of this study was to evaluate the potential of this system for detecting depressive states and monitoring stress-induced mental changes. MethodsWe opened our system to the public in the form of a prospective study in which data were collected over 2 years from a large, unspecified sample of users. We used these data to analyze the relationships between the rate of continued use, the men-to-women ratio, and existing psychological tests for this system over the study duration. Moreover, we analyzed changes in mental data over time under stress from particular life events. ResultsThe system had a high rate of continued use. Voice indicators showed that women have more depressive tendencies than men, matching the rate of depression in Japan. The system’s voice indicators and the scores on classical psychological tests were correlated. We confirmed deteriorating mental health for users in areas affected by major earthquakes in Japan around the time of the earthquakes. ConclusionsThe results suggest that although this system is insufficient for detecting depression, it may be effective for monitoring changes in mental health due to stress. The greatest feature of our system is mental health monitoring, which is most effectively accomplished by performing long-term time-series analysis of the acquired data considering the user’s life events. Such a system can improve the implementation of patient interventions by evaluating objective data along with life events.

Abstract

With the end to throw light on the peculiarity of the stress produced in the orthotropic plate, more examples of the plane problem are added to those in the previous paper:); the solutions are given in the cases when the orthotropic plate having a hole, circular or elliptic, is under the conditions; / a) .that a pair of forces is acting at two points on the periphery of the hole, / b) that uniform hydrcstatic pressure is prevailing in the hole, / c) that uniform tangential force acts along the periphery of the hole, / d) that a concentrated force acts on a certain point in the plane of the plate, / e) that a concentrated force acts on a point of the periphery of the hole, / f) that distributed pressure are on a certain part of the periphery of the hole, / g) that the circular opening is expanded uniformly, together with the solutions in the cases when the plate has rigid flange, or a rig.id plug sticked to the periphery of the hole, and / h) the periphery is turned a certain angle, or / i) the plate is under the uniform shearing force acting on the remote outer boundary of the plate. / The numerical calculations are worked out and the results are shown in the annexed figures.

12. THE STRESSES IN THE ORTHOTROPIC SEMI-INFINITE PLATE DUE TO AN RIGID BOLT PRESSED AGAINST ON ITS EDGE

Abstract

In this paper treated are the stresses produced elastically in the orthotropic semi-infinite plate as well as the pressure of contact on the edge, due to a rigid body pressed against. Numerical calculation is worked out in the case where the plate of Compreg is compressed on the edge with a steel bolt and the result is shown in the annexed figures, in which we can recognize the characteristic features peculiar to orthotropic materials in the mechanical aspect. At the same time, we can find the spots subjected to the most unfavorable stress in either case where the edge of the plate is inclined to or coincides with the directions of the axes of symmetry of orthotropic elasticity.

Abstract

In modern society, evaluation and management of psychological stress may be important for the prevention of periodontal disease. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between psychological stress (vitality and mental activity) evaluated by Mind Monitoring System (MIMOSYS) and periodontal status. Forty students of Okayama University underwent the oral examination and self-reported questionnaire on the first day (baseline) and the 14th day (follow-up). Voice recording was performed every day with the MIMOSYS app during the whole study period. The participants completed the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ)-9 and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) at baseline and at follow-up. Spearman's rank correlation coefficient was used to determine the significance of correlations among variables. The PHQ-9 and BDI scores were negatively correlated with vitality in the morning. Change in vitality in the morning was significantly correlated with changes in periodontal inflammation. Mental activity was significantly correlated with change in mean probing pocket depth. This result shows that measurement of psychological stress using a voice-based tool to assess mental health may contribute to the early detection of periodontal disease.

The relationship between the spin state and the reactivity with O2 of a series of the chlorocatecholatoiron(III) complexes is investigated. The study revealed that the low-spin complex has a lower reactivity with O2 than high-spin analogue, despite higher semiquinonate character in the low-spin state than in the high-spin state.

Abstract

Abstract Background Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) for patients with Philadelphia chromosome (Ph)-negative acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in first complete remission (CR1) is much more intensive than multi-agent combined chemotherapy, although allogeneic HSCT is associated with increased morbidity and mortality when compared with such chemotherapy. Minimal residual disease (MRD) status has been proven to be a strong prognostic factor for adult patients with Ph-negative ALL. Methods We investigated whether MRD status in adult patients with ALL is useful to decide clinical indications for allogeneic HSCT. We prospectively monitored MRD after induction and consolidation therapy in adult patients with Ph-negative ALL. Results Of 110 adult ALL patients enrolled between July 2002 and August 2008, 101 were eligible, including 59 Ph-negative patients. MRD status was assessed in 43 patients by the detection of major rearrangements in TCR and Ig and the presence of chimeric mRNA. Thirty-nine patients achieved CR1, and their probabilities of 3-year overall survival and disease-free survival (DFS) were 74% and 56%, respectively. Patients who were MRD-negative after induction therapy (n = 26) had a significantly better 3-year DFS compared with those who were MRD-positive (n = 13; 69% vs. 31%, p = 0.004). All of 3 patients who were MRD-positive following consolidation chemotherapy and did not undergo allogeneic HSCT, relapsed and died within 3 years after CR. Conclusions These results indicate that MRD monitoring is useful for determining the clinical indications for allogeneic HSCT in the treatment of ALL in CR1.

Abstract

To develop an efficient CO2 reduction catalyst, hybridizing a molecular catalyst and a porous coordination polymer (PCP) is a promising strategy because it can combine both advantages of the precise reactivity control of the former and the CO2 adsorption property of the latter. Although several PCP hybrid catalysts have been reported to date, the CO2 sorption behavior and the CO2 reduction reactivity have been investigated separately, and the CO2 enrichment during the catalysis is still unclear. We report CO2 photoreduction under different temperatures and pressures using a PCP‐RuII complex hybrid catalyst. The product selectivity (CO or HCOOH) varied depending on the reaction conditions.
