Abstract

A small high-temperature superconductor (HTS) coil was designed and tested at the General Electric Global Research Center to evaluate the overcurrent capability for the HTS generator rotor. The superconducting rotor coil is a layer-wound racetrack coil using the BSCCO 2223 conductor. Overcurrent simulation tests have been done to simulate the fault operation condition for the generator based on previous analysis work. The obtained data are used to evaluate the performance of the HTS material in generator applications. Index Terms--Generator, high-temperature superconductor (HTS), overcurrent, quench.

Abstract

This paper presents a design method to develop a high-power superconducting microstrip filter with different linewidth resonators. The linewidth of every resonator is optimized using this method to meet the same maximum current density. Thus, the power-handling capability of the five-pole filter on a limited substrate size can reach a maximum value. The design method is verified by the electromagnetic simulation of the current density distribution. The high-power superconducting filter is designed and fabricated on a 38 mm x 30 mm x 0.505 mm LaAl[O.sub.3] substrate. The maximum resonator linewidth is 7 mm, and the minimum one is 1.6 mm. The filter has a center frequency of 2006 MHz and a narrow bandwidth of 1.0%. The measured power level is up to 35 dBm at 65 K without an evident change in insertion loss. Abstract

An iterative design approach was used for the performance of electromagnetic (EM) designs of a high-temperature superconductor (HTS) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) magnet. Findings revealed that HTS materials benefit the EM design with more coil and magnet sizes, shorter wire length and lower overall resistance.

Abstract

The article discusses the development of a conduction-cooled high temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet system for examining fast discharging performances. Findings reveal that the magnet is capable of generating a central magnetic field of 3.8 T at a temperature of 20 K.

Abstract

The development of a magnetic separator based on the conduction-cooled high temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet is discussed. Findings reveal that the separating efficiency of the separator is 84.1 percent.
