The collaboration of Yale, the University of California, Davis, and United Imaging Healthcare has successfully developed the NeuroEXPLORER, a dedicated human brain PET imager with high spatial resolution, high sensitivity, and a built-in 3-dimensional camera for markerless continuous motion tracking. It has high depth-of-interaction and time-of-flight resolutions, along with a 52.4-cm transverse field of view (FOV) and an extended axial FOV (49.5 cm) to enhance sensitivity. Here, we present the physical characterization, performance evaluation, and first human images of the NeuroEXPLORER. Methods: Measurements of spatial resolution, sensitivity, count rate performance, energy and timing resolution, and image quality were performed adhering to the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) NU 2-2018 standard. The systems performance was demonstrated through imaging studies of the Hoffman 3-dimensional brain phantom and the mini-Derenzo phantom. Initial 18F-FDG images from a healthy volunteer are presented. Results: With filtered backprojection reconstruction, the radial and tangential spatial resolutions (full width at half maximum) averaged 1.64, 2.06, and 2.51 mm, with axial resolutions of 2.73, 2.89, and 2.93 mm for radial offsets of 1, 10, and 20 cm, respectively. The average time-of-flight resolution was 236 ps, and the energy resolution was 10.5%. NEMA sensitivities were 46.0 and 47.6 kcps/MBq at the center and 10-cm offset, respectively. A sensitivity of 11.8% was achieved at the FOV center. The peak noise-equivalent count rate was 1.31 Mcps at 58.0 kBq/mL, and the scatter fraction at 5.3 kBq/mL was 36.5%. The maximum count rate error at the peak noise-equivalent count rate was less than 5%. At 3 iterations, the NEMA image-quality contrast recovery coefficients varied from 74.5% (10-mm sphere) to 92.6% (37-mm sphere), and background variability ranged from 3.1% to 1.4% at a contrast of 4.0:1. An example human brain 18F-FDG image exhibited very high resolution, capturing intricate details in the cortex and subcortical structures. Conclusion: The NeuroEXPLORER offers high sensitivity and high spatial resolution. With its long axial length, it also enables high-quality spinal cord imaging and image-derived input functions from the carotid arteries. These performance enhancements will substantially broaden the range of human brain PET paradigms, protocols, and thereby clinical research applications.

OBJECTIVE: The study objective was to evaluate intraoperative experience with newly developed high-spatial-resolution microelectrode grids composed of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) with polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS), and those composed of platinum nanorods (PtNRs). METHODS: A cohort of patients who underwent craniotomy for pathological tissue resection and who had high-spatial-resolution microelectrode grids placed intraoperatively were evaluated. Patient demographic and baseline clinical variables as well as relevant microelectrode grid characteristic data were collected. The primary and secondary outcome measures of interest were successful microelectrode grid utilization with usable resting-state or task-related data, and grid-related adverse intraoperative events and/or grid dysfunction. RESULTS: Included in the analysis were 89 cases of patients who underwent a craniotomy for resection of neoplasms (n = 58) or epileptogenic tissue (n = 31). These cases accounted for 94 grids: 58 PEDOT:PSS and 36 PtNR grids. Of these 94 grids, 86 were functional and used successfully to obtain cortical recordings from 82 patients. The mean cortical grid recording duration was 15.3 ± 1.15 minutes. Most recordings in patients were obtained during experimental tasks (n = 52, 58.4%), involving language and sensorimotor testing paradigms, or were obtained passively during resting state (n = 32, 36.0%). There were no intraoperative adverse events related to grid placement. However, there were instances of PtNR grid dysfunction (n = 8) related to damage incurred by suboptimal preoperative sterilization (n = 7) and improper handling (n = 1); intraoperative recordings were not performed. Vaporized peroxide sterilization was the most optimal sterilization method for PtNR grids, providing a significantly greater number of usable channels poststerilization than did steam-based sterilization techniques (median 905.0 [IQR 650.8-935.5] vs 356.0 [IQR 18.0-597.8], p = 0.0031). CONCLUSIONS: High-spatial-resolution microelectrode grids can be readily incorporated into appropriately selected craniotomy cases for clinical and research purposes. Grids are reliable when preoperative handling and sterilization considerations are accounted for. Future investigations should compare the diagnostic utility of these high-resolution grids to commercially available counterparts and assess whether diagnostic discrepancies relate to clinical outcomes.

We describe the bias adjustment and downscaling to a resolution of 1 × 1 km of daily temperature, precipitation and solar radiation of a multimodel ensemble of Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6) GCMs with the local observational data set BhutanClim for Bhutan and an analysis of the results for 1996–2100. The GCMs were selected based on their ability to reproduce local temporal and spatial precipitation patterns, resulting in a total of 14 models for each shared socioeconomic pathway (SSP). The results are shown for five global warming levels (GWLs) 1.5, 2, 3, 4 and 5°C, providing insight into the projected impacts of climate change at different warming levels. The daily temperature and precipitation data are publicly available, which is of great benefit for climate impact studies, such as ecological, hydrological or infrastructure‐related studies. In this paper, we discuss showcase climate indicators. Peak‐over‐threshold climate indicators such as hot days above 30°C are relevant for human health. In the capital city of Thimphu, these are currently rare, at 4 days per year, but might increase to more than 80 for GWL5.0. Precipitation increases in the summer months, but slightly decreases in the drier winter months. Accordingly, the 3‐month SPEI drought index is projected to increase in summer, but strongly decreases in the winter months, mostly pronounced in February. The optimized derivative fast Fourier transform (dFFT) simultaneously increases resolution and reduces noise in spectra reconstructed from encoded time signals. The pertinent applications have recently been published for time signals encoded with and without water suppression by in vitro and in vivo magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS). Even with the employed lower derivative orders, genuine resonances were narrowed, their intensities enhanced and the background baselines flattened. This unequivocally separated many overlapped peaks that are the thorniest problem in data analysis by signal processing. However, it has been common knowledge that higher-order derivative spectra quickly deteriorate with the increased derivative order. The optimized dFFT can challenge such findings. An unprecedented resilience of this processor to derivative-induced distortions is presently demonstrated for high derivative orders (up to 20). The salient illustrations are given for the water residual, lactate quartet and lactate doublet alongside their close surroundings. This study assesses the performance of the Weather Research and Forecasting-Hydrological modeling system (WRF-Hydro) in the simulation of street-scale flood inundation. The case study is the Hackensack River Watershed in New Jersey, US, which is part of the operational Stevens Flood Advisory System (SFAS), a one-way coupled hydrodynamic-hydrologic system that currently uses the Hydrologic Engineering Center's Hydrologic Modeling System (HEC-HMS) to simulate streamflow. The performance of the 50-m gridded WRF-Hydro model was assessed for potential integration into the operational SFAS system. The model was calibrated with the dynamically dimensioned search algorithm using streamflow observations. The model performance was assessed using (i) streamflow observations, (ii) USGS HWMs, and (iii) crowdsourced data on street inundation. Results show that WRF-Hydro outperformed the HEC-HMS model. WRF-Hydro over and underestimated flood inundation extent due to the inaccuracy of the synthetic rating curves and the modeling structure errors. Purpose: QSM provides insight into healthy brain aging and neuropathologies such as multiple sclerosis (MS), traumatic brain injuries, brain tumors, and neurodegenerative diseases. Phase data for QSM are usually acquired from 3D gradient‐echo (3D GRE) scans with long acquisition times that are detrimental to patient comfort and susceptible to patient motion. This is particularly true for scans requiring whole‐brain coverage and submillimeter resolutions. In this work, we use a multishot 3D echo plannar imaging (3D EPI) sequence with shot‐selective 2D CAIPIRIHANA to acquire high‐resolution, whole‐brain data for QSM with minimal distortion and blurring. Methods: To test clinical viability, the 3D EPI sequence was used to image a cohort of MS patients at 1‐mm isotropic resolution at 3 T. Additionally, 3D EPI data of healthy subjects were acquired at 1‐mm, 0.78‐mm, and 0.65‐mm isotropic resolution with varying echo train lengths (ETLs) and compared with a reference 3D GRE acquisition. Results: The appearance of the susceptibility maps and the susceptibility values for segmented regions of interest were comparable between 3D EPI and 3D GRE acquisitions for both healthy and MS participants. Additionally, all lesions visible in the MS patients on the 3D GRE susceptibility maps were also visible on the 3D EPI susceptibility maps. The interplay among acquisition time, resolution, echo train length, and the effect of distortion on the calculated susceptibility maps was investigated. Conclusion: We demonstrate that the 3D EPI sequence is capable of rapidly acquiring submillimeter resolutions and providing high‐quality, clinically relevant susceptibility maps. In this review, we summarize the latest advances in the design of optical frequency-domain reflectometers (OFDRs), digital signal processing, and sensors based on special optical fibers. We discuss state-of-the-art approaches to improving metrological characteristics, such as spatial resolution, SNR, dynamic range, and the accuracy of determining back reflection coefficients. We also analyze the latest achievements in the OFDR-based sensors: the accuracy of spatial localization of the impact, the error in detecting temperatures, deformation, and other quantities, and the features of separate measurement of various physical quantities. We also pay attention to the trend of mutual integration of frequency-domain optical reflectometry methods with time-domain optical reflectometry, which provides completely new sensing possibilities. We believe that this review may be useful to engineers and scientists focused on developing a lab setup, complete measurement instrument, or sensing system with specific requirements. Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensors are based on photon-excited surface charge density oscillations confined at metal-dielectric interfaces, which makes them highly sensitive to biological or chemical molecular bindings to functional metallic surfaces. Metal nanostructures further concentrate surface plasmons into a smaller area than the diffraction limit, thus strengthening photon-sample interactions. However, plasmonic sensors based on intensity detection provide limited resolution with long acquisition time owing to their high vulnerability to environmental and instrumental noises. Here, we demonstrate fast and precise detection of noble gas dynamics at single molecular resolution via frequency-comb-referenced plasmonic phase spectroscopy. The photon-sample interaction was enhanced by a factor of 3,852 than the physical sample thickness owing to plasmon resonance and thermophoresis-assisted optical confinement effects. By utilizing a sharp plasmonic phase slope and a high heterodyne information carrier, a small atomic-density modulation was clearly resolved at 5 Hz with a resolution of 0.06 Ar atoms per nano-hole (in 10–11 RIU) in Allan deviation at 0.2 s; a faster motion up to 200 Hz was clearly resolved. This fast and precise sensing technique can enable the in-depth analysis of fast fluid dynamics with the utmost resolution for a better understanding of biomedical, chemical, and physical events and interactions. Infant meningitis remains a severe burden on global health, particularly for young infants. Traditional ultrasound imaging techniques are limited in spatial resolution to visualize white blood cells (WBCs) in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), which is considered a well-established marker for meningitis detection. This work presents a novel platform that uses high-resolution ultrasound to detect the backscatter signals from microscopic CSF WBCs through the anterior fontanelle of neonates and young infants. The whole system was built around a custom probe that allows for a 20 MHz focused transducer to be mechanically controlled to map the area of interest in the CSF. Data processing can be performed internally in the device without the need to extract the images for further analysis. The in vitro feasibility of the proposed solution was evaluated in imaging 7 μ m particle suspensions at different concentrations relevant to meningitis diagnosis ranging from 7- to 646-particles (pp)/ μ L. The experimental tests were conducted from a simple setup using a sample container to a more realistic setup based on an anatomical phantom of the neonatal head. CO2 is one of the primary greenhouse gases impacting global climate change, making it crucial to understand the spatiotemporal variations of CO2. Currently, commonly used satellites serve as the primary means of CO2 observation, but they often suffer from striping issues and fail to achieve complete coverage. This paper proposes a method for constructing a comprehensive high-spatiotemporal-resolution XCO2 dataset based on multiple auxiliary data sources and satellite observations, utilizing multiple simple deep neural network (DNN) models. Global validation results against ground-based TCCON data demonstrate the excellent accuracy of the constructed XCO2 dataset (R is 0.94, RMSE is 0.98 ppm). Using this method, we analyze the spatiotemporal variations of CO2 in China and its surroundings (region: 0°–60° N, 70°–140° E) from 2019 to 2020. Polystyrene (PS) has not been much used as an optical material due to the considerably high birefringence of PS. For the extensive use of PS in the imaging-lens systems, lower birefringence should be attained for the enhancement of the resolution. Previously, we have developed PS with extremely low birefringence (LB-PS) even when the molecular chain orientation of PS occurred. It indicates that PS may now become an effective material with excellent properties for optical lenses. In this paper, we compared the birefringence of our developed LB-PS with ones of commercial optical polymers that are most commonly utilized in imaging-lens systems. It was confirmed that the birefringence of LB-PS was comparable or even better than that of the commercial ones with high resolution. By designing an imaging-lens system, it was also confirmed that employing PS with the Abbe number of 31.5 could be highly effective in compensating for chromatic aberration as well as obtaining high optical resolution. Moreover, the resolution performance of several lens systems was calculated, analyzed, and compared by considering the birefringence of cyclo-olefin polymer (COP), normal PS, and LB-PS. It was found that LB-PS could maintain high resolution, while normal PS with high birefringence exhibited significant decrease in resolution. It was also found that LB-PS generated higher resolution than COP. All these results revealed that LB-PS could be an excellent optical material to compensate for the chromatic aberration of lens systems, leading to the enhancement of the actual resolution performance. Considerable spring precipitation occurs over South China (SC), a region that is adjacent to large-scale Asian topography and oceans. Its reasonable simulation is crucial for improving regional climate predictability. This study investigates spring precipitation biases over SC and their possible causes in atmosphere-only and coupled Flexible Global Ocean–Atmosphere–Land System finite-volume version 3 (FGOALS-f3) models with different horizontal resolutions. The performance of spring precipitation simulation over SC varies across different FGOALS-f3 model versions, with the best reproducibility in the high-resolution coupled model (25 km). In the low-resolution atmosphere-only model (100–125 km), the precipitation dry bias over SC is closely linked to overestimated surface sensible forcing over the eastern Tibetan Plateau (TP), which weakens the subtropical anticyclone over the western Pacific (SAWP) through regional circulation responses. By contrast, the high-resolution atmosphere-only model further amplifies surface thermal forcing in the Asian continents, causing intensified land-sea thermal contrast between the Southeast Asian continents and western Pacific, enhanced southerly winds and SAWP, and increased water vapor transport into SC. Meanwhile, the reduced middle-high level cold bias over 10°–30°N in the high-resolution atmosphere-only model intensifies the East Asian westerly jet and ascent over SC, leading to enhanced spring precipitation there. The high-resolution coupled model simulation not only reduces sea surface cold bias over the Bay of Bengal, thus intensifying the Indian-Burma trough and strengthening low-level water vapor transport into SC, but also enhances ascent over SC. As a result, the high-resolution coupled model better reproduces the magnitude and pattern of spring precipitation over SC than its atmosphere-only model. Compared with low-resolution models, the domain-mean spring precipitation dry bias decreases by 11.2% over SC in the high-resolution atmosphere-only model and by 35.9% in the coupled model. These results demonstrate that the high-resolution FGOALS-f3 models can improve simulations of the influencing atmospheric circulations and spring precipitation over SC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Parameter Space Concept (PSC) is an alternative approach to solving and refining (partial) crystal structures from very few pre-chosen X-ray or neutron diffraction amplitudes without the use of Fourier inversion. PSC interprets those amplitudes as piecewise analytic hyper-surfaces, so-called isosurfaces, in the Parameter Space, which is spanned by the spatial coordinates of all atoms of interest. The intersections of all isosurfaces constitute the (possibly degenerate) structure solution. The present feasibility study investigates the La and Sr split position of the potential high-temperature super-conductor (La0.5Sr1.5)MnO4, I 4 /mmm, with a postulated total displacement between La and Sr of a few p m by theoretical amplitudes of pre-selected 0 0 l reflections ( l = 2 , 4 , ... , 20 ). The revision of 15-year-old results with state-of-the-art computing equipment enhances the former simplified model by varying the scattering power ratio f La / f Sr , as exploitable by means of resonant scattering contrast at synchrotron facilities, and irrevocably reveals one of the two originally proposed solutions as being a "blurred" pseudo-solution. Finally, studying the resolution limits of PSC as a function of intensity errors by means of Monte-Carlo simulations shows both that the split can only be resolved for sufficiently low errors and, particularly for the resonant scattering contrast, a theoretical precision down to ± 0.19   p m can be achieved for this specific structural problem. Luminescence imaging in the second near-infrared (NIR-II) window, particularly within the NIR-IIb (1500–1700 nm) sub-window, has been utilized for both fundamental research and clinical applications due to its exceptional spatiotemporal resolution. Nevertheless, efficient contrast agents designed for NIR-IIb imaging are still scarce. Herein, a multilayered rare-earth nanocrystal (NaYF 4 :Yb,Er,Ce@NaYF 4 :Yb,Nd@NaYF 4) with strong NIR-IIb luminescence was designed and synthesized. The doping of Ce3+ ions in the core effectively suppresses the upconversion and boosts the downconversion luminescence by populating the Er 4I 13/2 level. Additionally, by separating the sensitizer (Nd3+) and the activator (Er3+) in different layers, we are able to maximize the light absorption around 800 nm and reduce the cross relaxations between rare-earth elements, which leads to a strong downconversion emission around 1530 nm under 808 nm excitation. After passivation with NaYF 4 shell and phase transfer with highly PEGylated mesoporous silica layer, the nanocomposites with excellent colloidal stability and bright NIR-IIb emission were obtained. With long blood circulation time in vivo, the fabricated nanocomposites enable high resolution and contrast luminescence imaging of the blood vessels and tumors in living mice. Introduction: Modeling and mapping of soil organic carbon concentration and distribution at the pedon scale is a current knowledge gap that can be addressed by laboratory-based hyperspectral imaging and chemometric analysis of soil cores. Despite the advancements in soil organic carbon models based on hyperspectral images, it is not clear how these models will perform upon input with images at higher resolutions than those of their training sets. This study aims to measure the generalizability of a soil organic carbon model based on a test set with higher resolution hyperspectral images than that of its training set. Methods: Organic carbon contents were measured at 10 cm intervals on eight soil cores for use as the training set and at 1 cm intervals on a single core for use as the test set. Three regression models, namely, multilayer perceptron, partial least-squares, and support vector regressions, were trained and tested with the median of each hyperspectral image for each of these intervals as the training and test predictors. Permutation importance analysis was performed to explain the models. Results: The results show that although all three models had the same validation R2 of 0.92 for cross-validation on the 10 cm data, multilayer perceptron regression allowed the best generalization with a test R2 of 0.96 compared to the partial least-squares regression (0.81) and support vector regression (0.86). It was demonstrated that the multilayer perceptron model is more robust to soil surface anomalies and that it predicts soil organic carbon on the test set by learning the spectral features related to soil organic matter chromophore activity in the 950--1,150 nm region along with clay mineralogy derived from peaks at 1,400, 1,900, 2,200, 2,250, and 2,350 nm. Conclusions: This study shows that while the regression models based on hyperspectral images perform well at the 10-cm-resolution cross validation, multilayer perceptron regression shows superior generalization and robustness for a higher 1-cm-resolution test set without much loss of prediction power. Currently, flexible capacitive sensors have a wide range of application scenarios in the field of wearable electronic devices. In order to detect more subtle joint movements of the human body, a method of fabricating stacked capacitive sensors is demonstrated. An ultrathin dielectric elastomer film of about 110 μm by the "secondary calendering" method was prepared. The shape of the electrode layers was designed, printed the electrode materials on the dielectric elastomer film by screen-printing, realized the stacked-layer technology, and connected each sensor unit in parallel by the electrode columns formed inside. A 12-layer flexible capacitive sensor with an initial capacitance of 10.2nF, good resolution (1% strain), high sensitivity (1.09) and stability under 10,000 cycles is fabricated. The sensor fabricated in this paper can recognize the motion at various joints of the human body, such as elbow and knee joints. This paper provides a new method for fabrication of stacked flexible capacitive sensors, which opens up new applications in flexible sensors, wearable electronic devices and human-computer interaction. The advancement of medical imaging has profoundly impacted our understanding of the human body and various diseases. It has led to the continuous refinement of related technologies over many years. Despite these advancements, several challenges persist in the development of medical imaging, including data shortages characterized by low contrast, high noise levels, and limited image resolution. The U-Net architecture has significantly evolved to address these challenges, becoming a staple in medical imaging due to its effective performance and numerous updated versions. However, the emergence of Transformer-based models marks a new era in deep learning for medical imaging. These models and their variants promise substantial progress, necessitating a comparative analysis to comprehend recent advancements. This review begins by exploring the fundamental U-Net architecture and its variants, then examines the limitations encountered during its evolution. It then introduces the Transformer-based self-attention mechanism and investigates how modern models incorporate positional information. Segmenting clouds and their shadows is a critical challenge in remote sensing image processing. The shape, texture, lighting conditions, and background of clouds and their shadows impact the effectiveness of cloud detection. Currently, architectures that maintain high resolution throughout the entire information-extraction process are rapidly emerging. This parallel architecture, combining high and low resolutions, produces detailed high-resolution representations, enhancing segmentation prediction accuracy. This paper continues the parallel architecture of high and low resolution. When handling high- and low-resolution images, this paper employs a hybrid approach combining the Transformer and CNN models. This method facilitates interaction between the two models, enabling the extraction of both semantic and spatial details from the images. To address the challenge of inadequate fusion and significant information loss between high- and low-resolution images, this paper introduces a method based on ASMA (Axial Sharing Mixed Attention). This approach establishes pixel-level dependencies between high-resolution and low-resolution images, aiming to enhance the efficiency of image fusion. In addition, to enhance the effective focus on critical information in remote sensing images, the AGM (Attention Guide Module) is introduced, to integrate attention elements from original features into ASMA, to alleviate the problem of insufficient channel modeling of the self-attention mechanism. Our experimental results on the Cloud and Cloud Shadow dataset, the SPARCS dataset, and the CSWV dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of our method, surpassing the state-of-the-art techniques for cloud and cloud shadow segmentation. The resolution of time-to-digital converters (TDC) is one parameter that will define its efficiency. This research demonstrates a 5.4 ps TDC with anti-PVT-variation implemented in 90-nm CMOS technology. The proposed converter uses a two-step architecture. The first stage is a Buffer Delay Line (BDL) to acquire a wide dynamic range characteristic. The second stage that will provide a higher resolution is Vernier delay line which receives the start and stop signals from the edge detector. A PVT (process, voltage, temperature) corner detector is equipped in the proposed TDC to resist the PVT variation. The proposed TDC's post-layout simulation results achieve a delay variation of 2 ps and a resolution of 5.4 ps, and an acceptable dynamic range of 890 ps. The INL and DNL attained a value of 0.8 and −1 LSB from the simulations. The proposed TDC attains the best FOM based on post-layout simulations with a value of 0.177, which makes it superior to all prior designs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We present a high-resolution record of environmental changes during the Mid-Late Holocene obtained from a lake sediment core covering the past 4.87 cal kyr BP in the Schirmacher Oasis, East Antarctica. The magnetic signal of Lake L6 was found to be primarily controlled by catchment-derived ferrimagnetic minerals. The period between 4.87 and 3.35 cal kyr BP is marked by several episodes of cold and warm conditions. Warm and wet conditions prevailed in the region from 3.35 to 2.43 cal kyr BP. Magnetic susceptibility values remained generally low indicating the pedogenic formation of fine magnetic grains. The high values of the chemical weathering indices reflected the warm and wet conditions conducive to chemical weathering. A transition to cold and dry conditions was observed at around 2.43 cal kyr BP, representing the Neoglacial cooling, with high values of magnetic concentration-dependent parameters. Following the Neoglacial period, a return to warm and wet conditions was observed at 1.63 cal kyr BP, coeval with the Medieval Climate Anomaly. Our record shows a Late-Holocene cooling marked by a sudden increase in magnetic susceptibility values, which could represent the Little Ice Age, followed by a shift to warmer conditions near the core top. We study single-voxel in vivo proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) of white matter in the brain of a 25 year old healthy male volunteer. The free induction decay (FID) data of short length (0.5KB) are encoded at a long echo time (272 ms) with and without water suppression at a clinical scanner of a weak magnetic field (1.5T). For these FIDs, the fast Fourier transform (FFT) gives sparse, rough and metabolically uninformative spectra. In such spectra, resolution and signal to noise ratio (SNR) are poor. Exponential or Gaussian filters applied to the FIDs can improve SNR in the FFT spectra, but only at the expense of the worsened resolution. This impacts adversely on in vivo MRS for which both resolution and SNR of spectra need to be very good or excellent, without necessarily resorting to stronger magnetic fields. Such a long sought goal is at last within reach by means of the optimized derivative fast Fourier transform (dFFT), which dramatically outperforms the FFT in every facet of signal estimations. The optimized dFFT simultaneously improves resolution and SNR in derivative spectra. They are presently shown to be of comparably high quality irrespective of whether water is suppressed or not in the course of FID encodings. The ensuing benefits of utmost relevance in the clinic include a substantial shortening of the patient examination time. The implied significantly better cost-effectiveness should make in vivo MRS at low-field clinical scanners (1.5T) more affordable to ever larger circles of hospitals worldwide. Lasers are instrumental in enabling precise processing and fostering the development of new technologies. Particularly, ultrafast lasers, due to their unique interaction with matter, can achieve not only exceptional spatial precision but also meticulously determine the degree of modification. A prime example of this is laser‐based 3D printing through multi‐photon lithography (MPL). This approach remarkably enables the printing of true 3D structures at the micro‐ and nanoscale, without the need for masks or cumbersome tools, simply by using computer‐aided designs. Owing to these unique capabilities, MPL has emerged as a powerful manufacturing technique across various multidisciplinary fields. The ongoing growth in MPL's utilization has led to notable advancements in printing highly complex structures on different substrates, as well as improvements in resolution and throughput, and the development of novel photosensitive materials, which impressively facilitated MPL's expansion into broader fields over the last few years. In this perspective article, the aim is to highlight these advancements and recent trends in MPL. The current challenges of MPL will be explored, which need to be addressed to ensure its further integration into advanced Additive Manufacturing at the micro‐ and nanoscale. Scintillators with high spatial‐resolution and high‐stability are highly desirable for X‐ray imaging applications at unpredictable environments. To challenge state‐of‐the‐art technology, it is necessary to design high thermal stable scintillators with high‐resolution and high light yield. In this work, the zero‐thermal‐quenching Lu3Al5O12:Ce3+ (LuAG: Ce3+) transparent ceramics (TCs) is synthesized with high optical transparency. The thermoluminescence (TL) curves of the as‐obtained TCs demonstrate that the formation of the oxygen vacancies, acting as the trapping centers, can capture the carriers and then contribute to the enhancement of its thermals stability via the thermal compensation effect. The exceptional thermal‐stability of the TCs scintillator endows the monitoring of the dynamic changes of the internal structure of the objective samples without any ghosting effects during heating. In addition, given the ultra‐high uniform, transparency, and fast light decay of the TCs scintillator, the excellent spatial resolution (≈112 lp mm−1) of the X‐ray microscopic imaging is realized. 2-Benzylbenzimidazoles, or "nitazenes", are a class of novel synthetic opioids (NSOs) that are increasingly being detected alongside fentanyl analogs and other opioids in drug overdose cases. Nitazenes can be 20× more potent than fentanyl but are not routinely tested for during postmortem or clinical toxicology drug screens; thus, their prevalence in drug overdose cases may be under-reported. Traditional analytical workflows utilizing liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) often require additional confirmation with authentic reference standards to identify a novel nitazene. However, additional analytical measurements with ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) may provide a path toward reference-free identification, which would greatly accelerate NSO identification rates in toxicology laboratories. Presented here are the first IMS and collision cross section (CCS) measurements on a set of fourteen nitazene analogs using a structures for lossless ion manipulations (SLIM)-orbitrap MS. All nitazenes exhibited two high intensity baseline-separated IMS distributions, which fentanyls and other drug and druglike compounds also exhibit. Incorporating water into the electrospray ionization (ESI) solution caused the intensities of the higher mobility IMS distributions to increase and the intensities of the lower mobility IMS distributions to decrease. Nitazenes lacking a nitro group at the R1 position exhibited the greatest shifts in signal intensities due to water. Furthermore, IMS-MS/MS experiments showed that the higher mobility IMS distributions of all nitazenes possessing a triethylamine group produced fragment ions with m/z 72, 100, and other low intensity fragments while the lower mobility IMS distributions only produced fragment ions with m/z 72 and 100. The IMS, solvent, and fragmentation studies provide experimental evidence that nitazenes potentially exhibit three gas-phase protomers. The cyclic IMS capability of SLIM was also employed to partially resolve four sets of structurally similar nitazene isomers (e.g., protonitazene/isotonitazene, butonitazene/isobutonitazene/secbutonitazene), showcasing the potential of using high-resolution IMS separations in MS-based workflows for reference-free identification of emerging nitazenes and other NSOs. The aim of this study was to identify and quantify artifacts produced by commonly used dental restorative materials in both standard and high-resolution cone beam computed tomographic imaging. In this in vitro study, 25 different dental materials were placed in holes (3 mm in diameter x 2 mm thick) prepared in the center of 10 x 10-mm polymethyl methacrylate plates. The specimens, along with a control plate prepared with an unfilled hole, were scanned at standard and high resolutions. The gray values (GVs) of the specimens were measured at 1-, 2-, 4-, and 8-mm distances from the material surfaces, and in 8 different directions, resulting in 32 measurements per specimen. The absolute value of the difference (AGV) between the GV of each measurement point on the specimen disc and the GV of the corresponding point on the control disc was considered to be the number of artifacts at that point. The median AGV of each material was calculated, and the materials were then ranked in terms of artifact formation using the Kruskal-Wallis test. At standard resolution, the greatest numbers of artifacts were caused by AH 26 root canal sealer and Heraenium S nickel-chromium alloy, and the fewest were caused by Whitepost DC #3 glass fiber post and ChemFil Superior glass ionomer cement. At high resolution, the greatest numbers of artifacts were found in amalgam (admix; SDI) and Heraenium S, and the fewest in Whitepost DC and GC Initial enamel porcelain. The median AGV values at standard and high resolutions were 46.0 and 57.0, respectively. High and standard resolutions were significantly different in terms of artifact formation (P = 0.001; Wilcoxon test). AH 26 sealer was the only material that demonstrated a statistically significant reduction in artifact formation at high resolution compared with standard resolution (P = 0.05; Wilcoxon test). Existing high‐resolution face‐swapping works are still challenges in preserving identity consistency while maintaining high visual quality. We present a novel high‐resolution face‐swapping method GPSwap, which is based on StyleGAN prior. To better preserves identity consistency, the proposed facial feature recombination network fully leverages the properties of both w space and encoders to decouple identities. Furthermore, we presents the image reconstruction module aligns and blends images in FS space, which further supplements facial details and achieves natural blending. It not only improves image resolution but also optimizes visual quality. Extensive experiments and user studies demonstrate that GPSwap is superior to state‐of‐the‐art high‐resolution face‐swapping methods in terms of image quality and identity consistency. Abstract Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensors are based on photon-excited surface charge density oscillations confined at metal-dielectric interfaces, which makes them highly sensitive to biological or chemical molecular bindings to functional metallic surfaces. Metal nanostructures further concentrate surface plasmons into a smaller area than the diffraction limit, thus strengthening photon-sample interactions. However, plasmonic sensors based on intensity detection provide limited resolution with long acquisition time owing to their high vulnerability to environmental and instrumental noises. Here, we demonstrate fast and precise detection of noble gas dynamics at single molecular resolution via frequency-comb-referenced plasmonic phase spectroscopy. The photon-sample interaction was enhanced by a factor of 3,852 than the physical sample thickness owing to plasmon resonance and thermophoresis-assisted optical confinement effects. By utilizing a sharp plasmonic phase slope and a high heterodyne information carrier, a small atomic-density modulation was clearly resolved at 5 Hz with a resolution of 0.06 Ar atoms per nano-hole (in 10–11 RIU) in Allan deviation at 0.2 s; a faster motion up to 200 Hz was clearly resolved. This fast and precise sensing technique can enable the in-depth analysis of fast fluid dynamics with the utmost resolution for a better understanding of biomedical, chemical, and physical events and interactions.

Abstract Currently, flexible capacitive sensors have a wide range of application scenarios in the field of wearable electronic devices. In order to detect more subtle joint movements of the human body, a method of fabricating stacked capacitive sensors is demonstrated. An ultrathin dielectric elastomer film of about 110 μm by the “secondary calendering” method was prepared. The shape of the electrode layers was designed, printed the electrode materials on the dielectric elastomer film by screen-printing, realized the stacked-layer technology, and connected each sensor unit in parallel by the electrode columns formed inside. A 12-layer flexible capacitive sensor with an initial capacitance of 10.2nF, good resolution (1% strain), high sensitivity (1.09) and stability under 10,000 cycles is fabricated. The sensor fabricated in this paper can recognize the motion at various joints of the human body, such as elbow and knee joints. This paper provides a new method for fabrication of stacked flexible capacitive sensors, which opens up new applications in flexible sensors, wearable electronic devices and human-computer interaction.

This paper proposes an ultrasound imaging algorithm based on sub-beamformer and multi-apodization with cross-correlation (SUB-MAX), aiming to achieve high resolution close to the minimum variance (MV) beamforming with low complexity and to enhance image contrast while maintaining background quality. The output of two (N /2)-element DAS beamformers with asymmetric phase centers is subtracted, resulting in a large drop in the main-lobe amplitude, while the sidelobe maintains a relatively high amplitude level. Inspired by this characteristic, the coefficients with opposite trends compared with the subtracted output are obtained and fused with the normalized cross-correlation (NCC) weighting matrix acquired by using multi-pair received apodization, the proposed SUB-MAX obtains a new weighting matrix to weight the output of the DAS beamformer. For ats_wire point targets, the average full-width at half-maximum (FWHM) of SUB-MAX compared with DAS, DMAS, CF, and MAX decreases by 52.7%, 43.5%, 33.3%, and 52.7%, respectively. For geabr_0 cysts, the average contrast ratio (CR) of SUB-MAX compared with DAS, MV, DMAS, and CF increases by 57.7%, 86.8%, 2.5%, and 14.4%, respectively. Experiments on rat_tumor dataset also indicate that SUB-MAX has a superior comprehensive imaging performance. The experimental results indicate that the superior comprehensive imaging performance of the proposed SUB-MAX is expected to be suitable for real-time imaging systems due to its non-reliance on covariance matrix inversion. Conventional microscopes designed for submicron resolution in biological research are hindered by a limited field of view, typically around 1 mm. This restriction poses a challenge when attempting to simultaneously analyze various parts of a sample, such as different brain areas. In addition, conventional objective lenses struggle to perform consistently across the required range of wavelengths for brain imaging in vivo. Here we present a novel mesoscopic objective lens with an impressive field of view of 8 mm, a numerical aperture of 0.5, and a working wavelength range from 400 to 1000 nm. We achieved a resolution of 0.74 μm in fluorescent beads imaging. The versatility of this lens was further demonstrated through high-quality images of mouse brain and kidney sections in a wide-field imaging system, a confocal laser scanning system, and a two-photon imaging system. This mesoscopic objective lens holds immense promise for advancing multi-wavelength imaging of large fields of view at high resolution.

Laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) additive manufacturing (AM) broadens the horizons of design in academia and industry. However, LPBF contends with challenges like residual stresses and distortions due to uneven heating and cooling, leading to substantial resource wastage. Accurately predicting residual stresses and distortions remains a hurdle, primarily due to the need for high-resolution modeling. In this study, a high-resolution model of the inherent strain method (ISM) with actual layer thickness for a cantilever geometry in LPBF is proposed for the first time. Experimental and numerical findings indicate that as the number of layers increases, distortions tend to decrease, while the residual stresses on the top surface consistently remain constant and close to the material's yield stress. The model achieves good agreement (error of 7.1%) for deformation, while the prediction error of residual stresses is reduced from 69% to 32% compared to a traditional ISM model.

The periaqueductal gray (PAG) is a small midbrain structure that surrounds the cerebral aqueduct, regulates brain–body communication, and is often studied for its role in “fight-or-flight” and “freezing” responses to threat. We used ultra-high-field 7 T fMRI to resolve the PAG in humans and distinguish it from the cerebral aqueduct, examining its in vivo function during a working memory task (N = 87). Both mild and moderate cognitive demands elicited spatially similar patterns of whole-brain blood oxygenation leveldependent (BOLD) response, and moderate cognitive demand elicited widespread BOLD increases above baseline in the brainstem. Notably, these brainstem increases were not significantly greater than those in the mild demand condition, suggesting that a subthreshold brainstem BOLD increase occurred for mild cognitive demand as well. Subject-specific masks were group aligned to examine PAG response. In PAG, both mild and moderate demands elicited a well-defined response in ventrolateral PAG, a region thought to be functionally related to anticipated painful threat in humans and nonhuman animals—yet, the present task posed only the most minimal (if any) “threat,” with the cognitive tasks used being approximately as challenging as remembering a phone number. The frequent occurrence of landslides poses a serious threat to people's lives and property. In order to evaluate disaster hazards based on remote sensing images via machine learning means, it is essential to establish an image database with manually labeled boundaries of landslides. However, the existing datasets do not cover diverse types of mountainous landslides. To address this issue, we propose a high-resolution (1 m) diverse mountainous landslide remote sensing dataset (DMLD), including 990 landslide instances across different terrain in southwestern China. To evaluate the performance of the DMLD, seven state-of-the-art deep learning models with different loss functions were implemented on it. The experiment results demonstrate not only that all of these deep learning methods with different characteristics can adapt well to the DMLD, but also that the DMLD has potential adaptability to other geographical regions. Vegetation classification has always been the focus of remote sensing applications, especially for tropical regions with fragmented terrain, cloudy and rainy climates, and dense vegetation. How to effectively classify vegetation in tropical regions by using multi-spectral remote sensing with high resolution and red-edge spectrum needs to be further verified. Based on the experiment in Wenchang, Hainan, China, which is located in the tropical monsoon region, and combined with the ZY-1 02D 2.5 m fused images in January, March, July, and August, this paper discusses whether NDVI and four red-edge vegetation indices (VIs), CIre, NDVIre, MCARI, and TCARI, can promote vegetation classification and reduce the saturation. The results show that the schemes with the highest classification accuracies in all phases are those in which the red-edge VIs are involved, which suggests that the red-edge VIs can effectively contribute to the classification of vegetation. The maximum accuracy of the single phase is 86%, and the combined accuracy of the four phases can be improved to 92%. It has also been found that CIre and NDVIre do not reach saturation as easily as NDVI and MCARI in July and August, and their ability to enhance the separability between different vegetation types is superior to that of TCARI. In general, red-edge VIs can effectively promote vegetation classification in tropical monsoon regions, and red-edge VIs, such as CIre and NDVIre, have an anti-saturation performance, which can slow down the confusion between different vegetation types due to saturation. The estimation of elastic properties of thin-bed formations from sonic logging is challenging. Standard slowness processing of sonic logging waveforms typically yields an average slowness log profile over the span of the receiver array, obscuring thin-layer features smaller than the array aperture. In order to enhance vertical resolution of the slowness logs, the subarray processing techniques have been developed. However, for the subarrays with smaller aperture, the semblance from subarray waveforms becomes susceptible to noise, which results in a low signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio for the processing slowness logs. To overcome the above drawbacks, we propose a slowness estimation method with the enhanced resolution ranging from the conventional array aperture resolution to the inter-receiver spacing based on the reconstruction of neighboring virtual traces (RNVTs). The method utilizes super-virtual interferometry to reconstruct a large number of waveforms for slowness extraction using redundant information from overlapping receiver subarrays. We validate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method using synthetic numerical experiments. By adding different levels of noise to synthetic data, we conclude that the new method has better noise robustness. Finally, we apply this method to field data, and the estimated high-resolution slowness logs show good agreement in interbedded sand-shale sequences. Both numerical tests and examples of field data show that, the slowness logs estimated by the new method can be obtained with a high resolution as well as with a high S/N ratio, providing an effective method for assessing slowness properties from a borehole. With the continuous development of electronic technology, sensors are moving toward miniaturization and high precision. This article focuses on the flexible, high‐resolution and miniaturized features of the sensor to design a pressure sensor. This article uses 3D printing technology to create a mold, which is injected with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and demold, distribute conductive tapes at equal distances on the PDMS film. Immerse the sensitive unit into a graphene suspension, remove it, dry it, and assemble it with a PDMS film to produce a cost‐effective flexible pressure sensor. Sensor testing shows that the sensor has fast response time and recovery time, as well as good repeatability. The consistency of the sensor in various regions is good, with excellent endurance performance and low coupling between different regions of the sensor. High‐resolution perception can be realized in an area of 9 mm × 9 mm (size of the finger pulp). To further demonstrate the high‐resolution performance of the sensor, it is used to recognize Braille and perceive the roughness of the fruit surface. The sensor works well in the scenarios of miniaturization and fitting to a robot's finger. In the field of array signal processing, uniform linear arrays (ULAs) are widely used to detect/separate a weak target and estimate its direction of arrival from interference and noise. Conventional beamforming (CBF) is robust but restricted by a wide mainlobe and high sidelobe level. Covariance-matrix-inversed beamforming techniques, such as the minimum variance distortionless response and multiple signal classification, are sensitive to signal mismatch and data snapshots and exhibit high-resolution performance because of the narrow mainlobe and low sidelobe level. Therefore, compared with the wideband CBF, this study proposes a robust focused-and-deconvolved conventional beamforming (RFD-CBF), utilizing the Richardson–Lucy (R-L) iterative algorithm to deconvolve the focused conventional beam power of a half-wavelength spaced ULA. Then, the focused-and-deconvolved beam power achieves a narrower mainlobe and lower sidelobe level while retaining the robustness of wideband CBF. Moreover, compared with the wideband CBF, RFD-CBF can obtain a higher output signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Purpose: This study aims to develop a high-resolution whole-brain multiparametric quantitative MRI approach for simultaneous mapping of myelin-water fraction (MWF), T1, T2, and proton-density (PD), all within a clinically feasible scan time. Methods: We developed 3D visualization of short transverse relaxation time component (ViSTa)-MRF, which combined ViSTa technique with MR fingerprinting (MRF), to achieve high-fidelity whole-brain MWF and T1/T2/PD mapping on a clinical 3T scanner. To achieve fast acquisition and memory-efficient reconstruction, the ViSTa-MRF sequence leverages an optimized 3D tiny-golden-angle-shuffling spiral-projection acquisition and joint spatial-temporal subspace reconstruction with optimized preconditioning algorithm. With the proposed ViSTa-MRF approach, high-fidelity direct MWF mapping was achieved without a need for multicompartment fitting that could introduce bias and/or noise from additional assumptions or priors. Results: The in vivo results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed acquisition and reconstruction framework to provide fast multi-parametric mapping with high SNR and good quality. The in vivo results of 1mm- and 0.66 mm-isotropic resolution datasets indicate that the MWF values measured by the proposed method are consistent with standard ViSTa results that are 30× slower with lower SNR. Furthermore, we applied the proposed method to enable 5-min whole-brain 1 mm-iso assessment of MWF and T1/T2/PD mappings for infant brain development and for post-mortem brain samples. Conclusions: In this work, we have developed a 3D ViSTa-MRF technique that enables the acquisition of whole-brain MWF, quantitative T1, T2, and PD maps at 1 and 0.66mm isotropic resolution in 5 and 15min, respectively. In order for OPD to be integrated into the panel, high‐resolution design technology is required. The DSE makes various placements by changing the location and rotation of signal lines and devices, and makes optimal routing. We propose in order to reduce searching time and parasitic capacitance, the search priority is adjusted by high resolution predict models. In addition, a routing model is proposed to avoid congestion of routes and to search for a routing that minimizes overlapping areas between signal lines. An optimized color‐reflective LCD with high optical performances and cost‐effective structure has been proposed by association with cholesteric liquid crystal technology. By way of a color dithering algorithm, the cholesteric liquid crystal display (Ch‐LCD) can visualize a 24‐bit RGB color pixel and display over 16 million colors. Moreover, the waveform module (WF) is applied to emulate the display timing controller, which is a lowcost and more accessible way to drive the Ch‐LCD. In this paper, we demonstrated a 13.3‐inch passive matrix (PM) driven Ch‐LCD with a high resolution of 202 PPI, high reflectance of 30%, and high color gamut of 20%, which is suitable for electronic signage applications. A novel bandwidth‐reduced display interface technique using adaptive sub‐color optimization with DCT (AS‐DCT) has been proposed to be able to lower both implementation cost and power consumption with visually lossless image quality for high resolution display products. A DCT conversion is applied to 1‐D line pixel data, and 50% of the redundant data has been compressed adaptively based on both sub‐color priority and the distribution of AC data components. A PSNR of about 45.86dB level was achieved for a given set of test images, and it was implemented using RTL coding in a FPGA to verify image quality and logic size level on an actual display system. Through the proposed technique, it is expected that it can easily reduce display data bandwidth without latency and lower its implementation cost for future display devices, such as 8K/16K resolutions, 240Hz/480Hz refresh rates, immersive AR/VR, Light field displays and beyond.
