In this work, TiO2 spherical nanoparticles with a mean diameter of 10.08 nm (SD = 4.54 nm) were synthesized using Aloe vera extract. Rutile, brookite, and anatase crystalline phases were identified. The surface morphology of a carbon paste electrode does not change in the presence of nanoparticles; however, the surface chemical composition does. The voltammetric response to dicresyl dithiophosphate was higher when the electrode was modified with TiO2 nanoparticles. After an electrochemical response study from pH 1.0 to 12.0, pH 7.0 was selected for the electroanalysis. The electroactive area of the modified sensor was 0.036 cm2, while it was 0.026 cm2 for the bare electrode. The oxidation process showed mixed adsorption-diffusion control. The charge transfer resistance of the modified sensor (530.1 Ω, SD = 4.08 Ω) was much lower than that of the bare electrode (4298 Ω, SD = 8.53 Ω). The linear quantitative range by square wave voltammetry was from 5 to 150 μmol/L, with a limit of detection of 1.89 μmol/L and a limit of quantification of 6.26 μmol/L under optimal pulse parameters of 50 Hz frequency, 1 mV step potential, and 25 mV pulse amplitude. The sensor response was repeatable and reproducible over 30 days. The results on real flotation and synthetically contaminated soil samples were statistically equivalent to those obtained by UV-vis spectrophotometry. BACKGROUND:Anti-human leukocyte antigen donor-specific antibodies (anti-HLA DSAs) are recognized as a major barrier to patients' access to organ transplantation and the major cause of graft failure. The capacity of circulating anti-HLA DSAs to activate complement has been suggested as a potential biomarker for optimizing graft allocation and improving the rate of successful transplantations. METHODS AND FINDINGS:To address the clinical relevance of complement-activating anti-HLA DSAs across all solid organ transplant patients, we performed a meta-analysis of their association with transplant outcome through a systematic review, from inception to January 31, 2018. The primary outcome was allograft loss, and the secondary outcome was allograft rejection. A comprehensive search strategy was conducted through several databases (Medline, Embase, Cochrane, and Scopus). A total of 5,861 eligible citations were identified. A total of 37 studies were included in the meta-analysis. Studies reported on 7,936 patients, including kidney (n = 5,991), liver (n = 1,459), heart (n = 370), and lung recipients (n = 116). Solid organ transplant recipients with circulating complement-activating anti-HLA DSAs experienced an increased risk of allograft loss (pooled HR 3.09; 95% CI 2.55-3.74, P = 0.001; I2 = 29.3%), and allograft rejection (pooled HR 3.75; 95% CI: 2.05-6.87, P = 0.001; I2 = 69.8%) compared to patients without complement-activating anti-HLA DSAs. The association between circulating complement-activating anti-HLA DSAs and allograft failure was consistent across all subgroups and sensitivity analyses. Limitations of the study are the observational and retrospective design of almost all included studies, the higher proportion of kidney recipients compared to other solid organ transplant recipients, and the inclusion of fewer studies investigating allograft rejection. CONCLUSIONS:In this study, we found that circulating complement-activating anti-HLA DSAs had a significant deleterious impact on solid organ transplant survival and risk of rejection. The detection of complement-activating anti-HLA DSAs may add value at an individual patient level for noninvasive biomarker-guided risk stratification. Transcript analyses highlight an important contribution of natural killer (NK) cells to microvascular inflammation (MVI) in antibody-mediated rejection (ABMR), but only few immunohistologic studies have quantified their spatial distribution within graft tissue. This study included 86 kidney transplant recipients who underwent allograft biopsies for a positive donor-specific antibody (DSA) result. NK cells were visualized and quantified within glomeruli and peritubular capillaries (PTC), using immunohistochemistry for CD34 alongside CD16/T-bet double-staining. Staining results were analyzed in relation to histomorphology, microarray analysis utilizing the Molecular Microscope Diagnostic System, functional NK cell genetics, and clinical outcomes. The number of NK cells in glomeruli per mm2 glomerular area (NKglom) and PTC per mm2 cortical area (NKPTC) was substantially higher in biopsies with ABMR compared to those without rejection, and correlated with MVI scores (NKglom Spearman's correlation coefficient [SCC] = 0.55, p < 0.001, NKPTC 0.69, p < 0.001). In parallel, NK cell counts correlated with molecular classifiers reflecting ABMR activity (ABMRprob: NKglom 0.59, NKPTC 0.75) and showed a trend towards higher levels in association with high functional FCGR3A and KLRC2 gene variants. Only NKPTC showed a marginally significant association with allograft function and survival. Our immunohistochemical results support the abundance of NK cells in DSApositive ABMR. Existing paradigms, which are deeply rooted in our educational systems, are fomenting unsustainable development. For this reason, it is necessary to opt for a style of education that allows university students to be aware of the need to live in a different way and be aware of our absolute dependency on our natural environment. This goal requires fundamental changes in the curriculum, as well as a broader vision of the role that educational institutions must play. One of the objectives of education in this new century must be to help achieve sustainable social and environmental human development. In this sense, higher education plays a very important role in the field of education for sustainability and the university must take on this challenge with great determination. This work presents a model for formation that furthers the development of basic competencies for sustainability, which must be incorporated into the curriculum of all higher educational studies. Adverse reactions to tuberculosis treatment can impact patient adherence and prognosis. Hypothyroidism is a frequent adverse reaction caused using ethionamide, prothionamide, and para-aminosalicylic acid and is often underdiagnosed. We searched Scielo, Scopus, and EMBASE databases, including 67 articles. Antitubercular drug-induced hypothyroidism has a prevalence of 17%. It occurs after 2 to 3 months of treatment and resolves within 4 to 6 weeks after discontinuation. It is postulated to result from the inhibition of thyroperoxidase function, blocking thyroid hormone synthesis. Symptoms are nonspecific, necessitating individualized thyroid-stimulating hormone measurement for detection. Specific guidelines for management are lacking, but initiation of treatment with levothyroxine, as is customary for primary hypothyroidism, is recommended. Discontinuation of antitubercular drugs is discouraged, as it may lead to unfavorable consequences. Antitubercular drug-induced hypothyroidism is more common than previously thought, affecting one in six MDR-TB patients. Despite diagnostic and treatment recommendations, implementation is hindered in low-income countries due to the lack of certified laboratories. New drugs for tuberculosis treatment may affect thyroid function, requiring vigilant monitoring for complications, including hypothyroidism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The development of an articulation process from the point of view of secondary education and how it is articulated with higher education generates new management models that shows that the applied point recognizes the case of the school Institución Educativa Distrital El Rodeo, hereinafter (I.E.D.) with the student population of the eleventh grade, it is sought to respond to What importance has the directive management in the processes of articulation of secondary education with higher education to facilitate the continuous improvement of the educational quality? In order to develop this problem, the processes of directive management are analyzed, under the analysis of the research that will allow visualizing the antecedents, which have been previously worked in favor of the strengthening of the educational quality from the articulation in secondary education. The methodological approach that was applied to address this qualitative approach and the instrument applied was through questionnaires applied to eleventh grade students and teachers who guided the subjects in the middle school stage, the value of the findings recognizes the importance of articulating education with the productive sectors and regional development. This article presents a balance about the chapter guidelines for teaching construction of the territory concept in schools today, which is part of the doctoral thesis "La construcción del territorio a través del ciberespacio: una mirada latinoamericana de la percepción de los jóvenes frente al espacio virtual. Presented at University of Valencia, Spain. This unit was focused on the construction of guidelines for learning the territory concept in geography, it is set from a comparative analysis between Spain, Colombia and England, in order to reflect the contributions of the Latin American, European and Anglo-Saxon countries, in line with the reconstitution of geographic knowledge at a global level to expand new approaches to the concept. This is in contrast to the policies in charge of regulating education in these countries. In this way, it is intended to make analytical and conceptual contributions of the territory from teachers' point of view in relation to the discussion of the territorial approach given by these institutional spaces to expand and develop a conceptual framework that contributes to generating significant transformations in the daily activity of educators. proposing a shift in the geography learning, which allows re-meaning the concept of territory in accordance with innovations in knowledge. In situ thermal remediation (ISTR) was used to treat a vadose‐zone source of trichloroethylene present at depths of 60 to 125 ft. below an occupied building at an active manufacturing facility. ISTR required innovative methods to install 135 steel casings from inside the building that included access limitations, space constraints that required angled borings and pre‐modeling of rig mast positions, control measures to manage exhaust from up to four drill rigs operating simultaneously, adjustments to heater wiring to limit temperatures in shallow soils leading to indoor air heating and potential for vapor intrusion, and ensure proper positioning and trajectory of closely spaced heaters. The installed heater casings were surveyed using a Devi‐Flex™ tool to monitor heater placement in casings that ranged from 87 to 196 ft. at angles between 90° and 30° from horizontal and periodically had to compensate for deflections caused by cobbles and boulders. Additional casings were installed to ensure adequate heater spacings in cases where deviations exceeded design parameters. ISTR was conducted using custom‐built thermal conduction heaters designed to minimize heat output in the shallow vadose zone and inside the building while temperatures in the lower vadose zone were maintained near boiling. Cables, vapor extraction pipes, and exhaust ducts were routed overhead and through the building roof to minimize disturbance to manufacturing operations. To expedite remediation, three groups of heaters and vapor recovery wells were installed and operated in overlapping periods.
