This study examined the concurrent validity of a tummy time questionnaire and time-use diary against an accelerometer measure. Participants were 29 parents and their 6-month-old infants from the Early Movers project in Edmonton, Canada. Tummy time was concurrently measured using a parental questionnaire, a time-use diary, and a validated GENEActiv accelerometer. In participants with data on all measures (n = 26), relative (Spearman's rank correlations) and absolute (Wilcoxon signed-rank tests and Bland-Altman plots) concurrent validity were examined. The questionnaire (r[subscript s] = 0.60) and time-use diary (r[subscript s] = 0.80) tummy time measures were significantly correlated with the accelerometer measure, with large effect sizes (r > 0.50). Compared to the accelerometer measure of tummy time, a significant difference in mean rank was observed for the questionnaire measure but not for the time-use diary measure. Bland--Altman plots showed a significant mean difference in tummy time between the accelerometer and questionnaire measures (42 min/d; 95% limits of agreement: -73,157 min/d) but not between the accelerometer and time-use diary measures (2 min/d; 95% limits of agreement: -47,51 min/d). These preliminary findings indicate both subjective measures may be appropriate for infant studies examining associations with tummy time and/or comparing tummy time between samples. The time-use diary may also provide a relatively precise estimate of tummy time in prevalence studies.

Background: Longer‐term symptoms (long COVID) may be present in seemingly recovered patients for several months and can be debilitating. Aim: To investigate the prevalence and type of symptoms in those with a prior COVID‐19 diagnosis. Methods: This prospective, longitudinal observational study commenced in July 2020 investigating the longer‐term health impacts of COVID‐19. Participants were recruited via public health units and media publicity. Surveys were completed upon enrolment, and at 1, 3, 6 and 12 months. Outcome measures included incidence of activity limitations and symptoms against health and vaccination status, age and gender. Results: Overall, 339 participants were recruited. At 3 months after COVID‐19, 66.8% reported symptoms, and 44.8% were still experiencing symptoms at 12 months. Fatigue was most common at every point (between 53.1% and 33.1%). Pain symptoms increased in relative prevalence over time, whereas respiratory/pulmonary‐type symptoms decreased substantially after 3 months. Females and younger people were more likely to experience symptoms in the early stages of long COVID (P < 0.01) and those with more comorbidities in the latter stages (P < 0.001). Vaccination showed a statistically significant protective effect against symptoms (P < 0.01–0.001). Conclusion: Long‐term COVID‐19 symptoms exist among recovered patients up to 12 months after contracting the virus. Fatigue is a primary contributor, while chronic pain became more problematic after 6 months. Vaccination was a factor in preventing long‐term symptoms and aiding faster recovery from symptoms. Background: Evidence links tummy time (ie, the time spent in awake prone positioning that is encouraged and supervised by an adult) to infants' health outcomes such as gross motor and total development. However, the associations between tummy time and other movement and sleep behaviors as the child develops remain unknown. The aim of this study was to examine whether early introduction and practice of tummy time within the first 6 months of age were associated with active and outdoor playtime, screen time, and nocturnal sleep time of children when they were 12 and 24 months old. Methods: A longitudinal analysis was conducted using data extracted from an Australian trial. Using telephone surveys with mothers, demographic data were collected from third trimester of pregnancy and tummy time data were collected at 6 months of age. Data on playtime, screen time, and nocturnal sleep duration as dependent variables were collected at 12 and 24 months of age. Multiple logistic regression models were built to investigate the associations. Results: Children who started tummy time within 4 weeks of age were more likely to have >10 hours sleep at night at 12 months (adjusted odds ratio 1.54, 95% confidence interval, 1.08–2.19). They were more likely to have >3 hours per day of outdoor play and have <1 hour per day of screen time at 24 months. Children who practiced tummy time every day were more likely to have >2 hours per day of active play at 12 months and have <1 hour per day of screen time at 24 months. Conclusions: Starting tummy time earlier and frequently was associated with more favorable movement and sleep of young children at 12 and 24 months of age. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Tummy time is recommended by the World Health Organization as part of its global movement guidelines for infant physical activity. To enable objective measurement of tummy time, accelerometer wear and nonwear time requires validation. The purpose of this study was to validate GENEActiv wear and nonwear time for use in infants. Methods: The analysis was conducted on accelerometer data from 32 healthy infants (4–25 wk) wearing a GENEActiv (right hip) while completing a positioning protocol (3 min each position). Direct observation (video) was compared with the accelerometer data. The accelerometer data were analyzed by receiver operating characteristic curves to identify optimal cut points for second-by-second wear and nonwear time. Cut points (accelerometer data) were tested against direct observation to determine performance. Statistical analysis was conducted using leave-one-out validation and Bland–Altman plots. Results: Mean temperature (0.941) and z-axis (0.889) had the greatest area under the receiver operating characteristic curve. Cut points were 25.6°C (temperature) and −0.812g (z-axis) and had high sensitivity (0.84, 95% confidence interval, 0.838–0.842) and specificity (0.948, 95% confidence interval, 0.944–0.948). Conclusions: Analyzing GENEActiv data using temperature (>25.6°C) and z-axis (greater than −0.812g) cut points can be used to determine wear time among infants for the purpose of measuring tummy time. To determine associations between frailty and patient outcomes for participants in an acute rehabilitation program. Retrospective participant data (n = 987) was extracted, and correlations between the Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS) and patient outcomes (FIMTM, FIMTM Efficiency, LOS, Discharge Destination, Unexpected clinical complication) were examined through statistical analysis (Logistic regression, ANCOVA, Kendall's Tau, odds ratios). The study cohort was 49.1% female and 50.9% male, averaging 82.3 years of age. FIMTM was weakly correlated with frailty, with both extent and efficiency declining with increasing frailty. This was statistically significant, despite being weak (p < 0.001). There was a similar correlation between increasing CFS and less favorable discharge destination. CFS was not a reliable indicator of LOS nor unexpected clinical complication. More frail patients often benefited from rehabilitation, and frailty score alone should not be used to select acute rehabilitation inpatients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To determine whether inpatients identified as being at high risk for falls received fall prevention interventions as recommended in the Best Practice Guidelines for Australian Hospitals. Methods: This cross‐sectional study examined medical record data from a convenience sample of inpatients admitted to orthopaedic and neurosciences wards (N = 100). Data were compared to the fall prevention recommendations. Percentages were used to describe compliance and independent samples t‐tests to assess difference in adherence. Results: Data revealed that 45% and 62% of recommendations were implemented amongst inpatients on orthopaedic and neurosciences ward, respectively (P < 0.001). There was a significant positive correlation between orthopaedic inpatients at higher risk of falls and those with a greater length of stay [r(39) =.46, P = 0.003]. When analysed together, patients who were admitted following a fall had a lower percentage of fall prevention strategies implemented (P < 0.001).
