Quantum teleportation in the presence of noisy channels acting on a bipartite resource state is considered. We consider a family of generalized noisy channels that continuously connect the amplitude damping and the dephasing channels, encompassing a wide family of in-between scenarios, to delve into the relation between the teleportation success and the amount of 3- and 4-partite entanglement (distributed among the qubits of the resource state and those representing local environments) generated during the evolution. Our analysis reveals that for a fixed entanglement of the resource state, the channels that better protect the teleportation fidelity against the detrimental effects of noise are those that generate higher amounts of (GHZ-type) multipartite entanglement. This suggests that the dynamically induced multipartite correlations may serve as an additional resource for teleportation, and throws light into the characterization of processes, and of the type of induced entanglement, according to their capability of assisting the protocol., Comment: To appear in Physical Review A

We consider a closed quantum system subject to a stochastic resetting process. The generic expression for the resulting density operator is formulated for arbitrary resetting dynamics, fully characterised by the distribution of times between consecutive reset events. We analyse the behaviour of the state in the long-time regime, as well as the evolution of relevant quantities in the study of quantum coherence and closed- vs open-system dynamics. Our general results are complemented with examples involving paradigmatic resetting distributions, and special attention is paid to the two-level (qubit) system, in which we elucidate the effects of the renewal process on the speed of evolution toward an orthogonal state, and gain insight into the resetting applied to open systems., Comment: An analysis of closed quantum system subject to arbitrary stochastic resetting process is carried out

Aspects of cell metabolism are modeled by ordinary differential equations describing the change of intracellular chemical concentrations. There is a correspondence between this dynamical system and a complex network. As in the classic Erd\H{o}s--R\'enyi model, the reaction network can evolve by the iterative addition of edges to the underlying graph. In the biochemical context, each added reaction implies a metabolic mutation. In this work it is shown that modifications to the graph topology by gradually adding mutations lead here too to the formation of a giant connected component, i.e., to a percolation--like phase transition. It triggers an abrupt change in the functionality of the corresponding network. This percolation is mapped into a bifurcation in the intracellular dynamics. It acts as a shortcut in biological evolution, so that the most probable metabolic state for the cell is suddenly switched from cellular stagnation to exponential growth., Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures

We consider the simplest identical-fermion system that exhibits the phenomenon of entanglement (beyond exchange correlations) to analyze its speed of evolution towards an orthogonal state, and revisit the relation between this latter and the amount of fermionic entanglement. A characterization of the quantum speed limit and the orthogonality times is performed, throwing light into the general structure of the faster and the slower states. Such characterization holds not only for fermionic composites, but apply more generally to a wide family of 6-dimensional states, irrespective of the specific nature of the system. Further, it is shown that the connection between speed of evolution and entanglement in the fermionic system, though more subtle than in composites of distinguishable parties, may indeed manifest for certain classes of states.

The evolution of mode entanglement is analysed for a system of two indistinguishable bosons with two accessible modes. Whereas entanglement remains stationary whenever the number of bosons in each mode is left invariant, it exhibits a rich dynamics under the effects of single- and two-particle tunneling. By analysing such effects in paradigmatic families of states, our results provide guidance for the design and control of specific dynamics of mode entanglement, by varying the tunneling transition rates and the preparation of the initial state., Comment: Mode-entanglement dynamics is analyzed for two bosons that hop between two sites. We present a simple algebraic procedure that can be applied to solve a range of quantum eigenvalue problems without the need to know the solution of the Schr\"odinger equation. The procedure, presented with a pedagogical purpose, is based on algebraic consistency conditions that must be satisfied by the eigenvalues of a couple of operators proper of the problem. These operators can be either bilinear forms of the raising and lowering operators appropriate to the problem, or else auxiliary operators constructed by resorting to the factorization of the Hamiltonian. Different examples of important quantum-mechanical textbook problems are worked out to exhibit the clarity and simplicity of the algebraic procedure for determining the spectrum of eigenvalues without knowing the eigenfunctions. We perform a comprehensive analysis of the set of parameters $\{r_{i}\}$ that provide the energy distribution of pure qutrits that evolve towards a distinguishable state at a finite time $\tau$, when evolving under an arbitrary and time-independent Hamiltonian. The orthogonality condition is exactly solved, revealing a non-trivial interrelation between $\tau$ and the energy spectrum and allowing the classification of $\{r_{i}\}$ into families organized in a 2-simplex, $\delta^{2}$. Furthermore, the states determined by $\{r_{i}\}$ are likewise analyzed according to their quantum-speed limit. Namely, we construct a map that distinguishes those $r_{i}$s in $\delta^{2}$ correspondent to states whose orthogonality time is limited by the Mandelstam--Tamm bound from those restricted by the Margolus--Levitin one. We offer a clear physical explanation for the emergence of the quantum operator formalism, by revisiting the role of the vacuum field in quantum mechanics. The vacuum or random zero-point radiation field has been shown previously, using the tools of stochastic electrodynamics, to be central in allowing a particle subject to a conservative binding force to reach a stationary state of motion. Here we focus on the stationary states, and consider the role of the vacuum as a driving force. We observe that the particle responds resonantly to certain field modes. A proper Hamiltonian analysis of this response allows us to unequivocally trace the origin of the basic quantum commutator, by establishing a one-to-one correspondence between the response coefficients of x and p and the respective matrix elements. The (random) driving field variables disappear thus from the description, but their Hamiltonian properties become embodied in the operator formalism. We revisit the problem of determining conditions under which a pure state, that evolves under an arbitrary unitary transformation, reaches an orthogonal state in a finite amount of the transformation parameter. Simple geometric considerations disclose the existence of a fundamental limit for the minimal amount required, providing, in particular, an intuitive hint of the Mandelstam-Tamm bound. The geometric considerations leads us to focus on a particular, yet relevant, family of states that evolve towards orthogonality. Several dynamical features are discussed, which include the (relative) entropy production during transformation, and special attention is paid to multipartite systems of $N$ bosons that are allowed to tunnel between two sites. The effects of the tunneling in the amount of transformation required for the system to attain an orthogonal state are revealed, and the relation between the latter, the tunneling intensity and the mode-entanglement is explored.

A proposal is put forward for an estimate of the duration of a transition between atomic states. The proposal rests on the consideration that a resonance of the atomic electron with modes of the zero-point radiation field of Compton's frequency is at the core of the phenomenon. The theoretical result, given essentially by the expression (\alpha\omega_{C})^{-1}, where \alpha is the fine structure constant and \omega_{C} the Compton angular frequency for the electron, lies well within the range of the recently experimentally estimated values of the order of attoseconds (10^{-18} s)., Comment: 7 pages

The connection is established between two theories that have developed independently with the aim to describe quantum mechanics as a stochastic process, namely stochastic quantum mechanics (sqm) and stochastic electrodynamics (sed). Important commonalities and complementarities between the two theories are identified, notwithstanding their dissimilar origins and approaches. Further, the dynamical equation of sqm is completed with the radiation terms that are an integral element in sed. The central problem of the transition to the quantum dynamics is addressed, pointing to the key role of diffusion in the emergence of quantization.

Spin is a fundamental and distinctive property of the electron, having far-reaching consequences in wide areas of physics. Yet, further to its association with an angular momentum, the physics underpinning its formal treatment remains obscure. In this work we propose to advance in disclosing the meaning behind the formalism, by first recalling some basic facts about the one-particle spin operator. Consistently informed by and in line with the quantum formalism, we then proceed to analyse in detail the spin projection operator correlation function $C_Q(\boldsymbol{a}, \boldsymbol{b}) = \langle(\hat{\sigma}\cdot\boldsymbol{a})(\hat{\sigma}\cdot\boldsymbol{b})\rangle$ for the bipartite singlet state, and show it to be amenable to an unequivocal probabilistic reading. In particular, the calculation of $C_Q(\boldsymbol{a}, \boldsymbol{b})$ entails a partitioning of the probability space, which is dependent on the directions $(\boldsymbol{a}, \boldsymbol{b})$. The derivation of the CHSH- or other Bell-type inequalities, on the other hand, does not consider such partitioning. This observation puts into question the applicability of Bell-type inequalities to the bipartite singlet spin state., Comment: 8 pages

We offer a possible physical explanation for the origin of the electron spin and the related antisymmetry of the wave function for a two-electron system, in the framework of nonrelativistic quantum mechanics as provided by linear stochastic electrodynamics. A consideration of the separate coupling of the electron to circularly polarized modes of the random electromagnetic vacuum field, allows to disclose the spin angular momentum and the associated magnetic moment with a $g$-factor 2, and to establish the connection with the usual operator formalism. The spin operator turns out to be the generator of internal rotations, in the corresponding coordinate representation. In a bipartite system, the distinction between exchange of particle coordinates (which include the internal rotation angle) and exchange of states becomes crucial. Following the analysis of the respective symmetry properties, the electrons are shown to couple in antiphase to the same vacuum field modes. This finding, encoded in the antisymmetry of the wave function, provides a physical rationale for the Pauli principle. Gaussian states are the backbone of quantum information protocols with continuous variable systems, whose power relies fundamentally on the entanglement between the different modes. In the case of global pure states, knowledge of the reduced states in a given bipartition of a multipartite quantum system bears information on the entanglement in such bipartition. For Gaussian states, the reduced states are also Gaussian, so there determination requires essentially the experimental determination of their covariance matrix. Here, we develop strategies to determine the covariance matrix of an arbitrary n-mode bosonic Gaussian state through measurement of the total phase acquired when appropriate metaplectic evolutions, associated with quadratic Hamiltonians, are applied. Simply one-mode metaplectic evolutions, such rotations, squeezing and shear transformations, in addition to a single two-mode rotation, allows to determine all the covariance matrix elements of a n-mode bosonic system. All the single-mode metaplectic evolutions are applied conditionally to a state in which an ancilla qubit is entangled with the n-mode system. The ancillary system provides, after measurement, the value of the total phase of each evolution.
