Background/Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the precision of the Raypex 6 apex locator in locating the apical constriction (AC) and major foramen (MF) during a root canal treatment compared with a microscopic evaluation. Another aim of the present study was to evaluate the accuracy of the Raypex 6 in the presence of different irrigating solutions (NaOCl, saline, EDTA, etidronic acid-HEBP). Material and Methods: One hundred and nine patients were included in this study and were randomly assigned into four groups according to the irrigation solution used; NaOCl, EDTA, HEBF and saline. Electronic MF (EMF) and AC (EAC) were measured by using Raypex 6. The teeth were extracted. The apical 3 mm of each canal was trimmed to expose the file tip. The samples were observed under a stereomicroscope, and the actual length of MF (ALMF) and AC (ALAC) were measured. The data were analyzed by using x2 test, and significance was set at P< 0.05. Results: The Raypex 6 was accurate 71.4% of the time to ±0.5mm and 93.3% of the time to ±1mm in determining the ALAC. While similar ALAC-EAC differences were observed in EDTA, NaOCl, and saline groups (p= 0.230), the highest differences were seen in the HEBP group (p= 1.000). The precision of Raypex 6 in determining the working length measurement depends on the type of irrigation. All solutions allowed reliable detection of AC. However, HEBF significantly increased the risk of overpreparation. Conclusions: Raypex 6 can be recommended for clinical use and its accuracy is not affected by the type of irrigant when locating MF.

Aim: This study evaluates the content and quality of YouTube videos on dental procedures under general anesthesia, a crucial topic for patients with disabilities or complex medical conditions. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional analysis was conducted on the first 200 videos yielded by a "general anesthesia in dentistry" search on YouTube. Videos were evaluated based on 13 criteriaand Video Information and Quality Index (VIQI) was used for overall quality assessment. Results: The study analyzed 180 videos, with 115 meeting the selection criteria. These videos showed good reliability in content and Video Information and Quality Index (VIQI) scores, and were mostly uploaded by healthcare professionals from the U.S., India. Average video length was about 7 minutes. They mainly discussed reasons for choosing general anesthesia. Majority of videos (79.1%) were uploaded by healthcare professionals. Among the 115 videos, 20% were full-content, while 83.5% and 16.5% were classified as highcontent and low-content, respectively. High-content videos were longer and had higher VIQI scores. Conclusion: Majority of videos on the topic were created by professionals. The reasons for choosing general anesthesia were the most discussed topic. Despite study limitations, these YouTube videos serve as effective supplementary material for both healthcare professionals and laypersons. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To investigate the relationship between apical periodontitis [AP] severity and inflammatory markers [interleukin (IL)-12, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), and Mid-Regional Pro Adrenomedullin (MR-proADM)] in patients with AP. A total of 162 subjects were divided into three categories: AP group (n = 80), periodontitis (P) group (n = 42), healthy control group (n = 40). The scoring of disease severity in 80 AP patients without any periodontal disease, using dental radiographs, was based on "The Abscess Score" (AS), as those having at least 1 tooth with AP and severity of PAI 3–4 were classified as AS 1 (mild); those with only1 tooth and severity of PAI 5 as AS 2 (moderate) and those having > 2 tooth with severity of PAI 5 as AS 3 (severe). Blood samples were collected from all of the patients. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to evaluate the samples. The MR-pro ADM levels of both the AP and P groups were considerably higher than the control group (p < 0.01). The IL-12 levels of the AP group were higher than the P and control groups (p < 0.05). TNF-α levels of the P group were significantly higher than both the AP and control groups (p < 0.01). MR-pro ADM levels of both the AP and Periodontitis groups were higher than the control group. TNF-α was a biomarker of periodontitis, while IL-12 was a biomarker of apical periodontitis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to determine the intraradicular microbiota of previously root canal‐treated teeth with apical periodontitis and to investigate the antibacterial effectiveness of different intracanal medicaments. Sixteen patients with post‐treatment apical periodontitis were allocated into two groups according to the intracanal medicament used: calcium hydroxide (CH) and 2% chlorhexidine gluconate gel (CHX) group. Total bacterial loads, as well as the amount of Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis) were determined before (S1) and after (S2) chemomechanical preparation and finally, after intracanal medication (S3) by means of ddPCR. The unpaired t test was used to compare parametric. S3‐total bacteria copy number of the CH group was lower than the CHX group (p < 0.05). There was no statistical difference between the CHX‐ and the CH groups in terms of E.faecalis copy number (p > 0.05). But in terms of total bacteria, CH is better than CHX. Consequently, CH can be used to optimise the antibacterial efficiency of chemomechanical preparation in previously root canal‐treated teeth with apical periodontitis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We present an unusual case of contact dermatitis of the face following the use of formocresol. A 23-yearold man presented to our hospital, 3 days after his dental appointment, with moderate pain and a burning sensation related to a patch of darkly discolored skin. Questioning his dentist revealed that he used formocresol as an intracanal medicament. The root canals had been extirpated and formocresol had been placed into tooth #26 as a medicament. The dentist admitted that he accidentally touched the patient's face with his formocresol-contaminated hands. Formocresol was removed from the canals and calcium hydroxide was placed. Then, a dermatology consultation was requested and it was diagnosed as irritant contact dermatitis. Complete healing was observed with appropriate drug therapy. The present case urges us to pay attention to preventive isolation methods and not to prefer formocresol, which can cause serious clinical manifestations, as an intracanal medicament.
