On the basis of daily dry weight increment and assimilation area of the investigated plants the production indexes NAR, LAI and CGR and yields of dry weight were calculated for three years. The comparison of indexes and yields showed that the dynamics and mass increment of rescue grass are higher that those of smooth brome grass.

The effect of herbicides Afalon (linuron), CIPC, Gramoxone (paraquat), Krezamon (DNOC), Pielik (2,4-D • Na), Simazin (simazine) on photosynthesis of Spirodela polyrrhiza (Lemnaceae) was investigated with infra-red gas analyzer Infralyt III. Herbicides: Afalon, Gramoxone, Simazine inhibited photosynthesis, proportionally to used herbicide concentration. Krezamon inhibited CO2 exchange directly after application, but later on photosynthesis increased. 2,4-D • Na and CIPC have no effect on photosynthesis even in higher concentrations.

The contents of protein, amino acids, reducing sugars, fibre (ADF), lignin (ADL) and mineral components in tissues of smooth brome grass – Bromus inermis and rescue grass – Bromus unioloides were determined. The purpose of this investigation was to compare the nutritive value of either species of grass.

The physiological activity of eleven 9-amine-9-fluorenephosphonic acid derivatives, synthesized at the Wrocław Polytechnic, was examined. The test plant was Spirodela oligorrhiza. The effect of these compounds on the increase of the dry matter of this plant was tested in eight-day experiments. The activity of the compounds was varied. The most toxic were nos. 2, 4, 9, 8, 5 and 6 which were lethal in low concentrations. Somewhat less toxic were nos. 7, 10 and 11; nos. 1 and 3 were the least toxic.

Examined was the possibility of interaction between morphactins and herbicides in phytotoxicity towards Spirodela as a test plant. Three newly synthesized 9-amine-9-fluorenephosphonic acid derivatives and the following herbicides were used: Aresin, Banvell D4-S, Gesagard, Pielik, Sys 67-Prop and U-46 KV Pulver. Synergism in phytotoxicity to Spirodela was found in the case of joint application of morphactin no. 1 and herbicides U-46 KV Pulver, Pielik and Sys 67-Prop.
