This work presents the influence of the conscience in the act of the will's choosing, in light of the teachings of St. Thomas Aquinas. As such, the role of reason in the apprehension of the good is analyzed. The moral dictates of reason are explained through synderesis, whose application to particular acts takes place through the act of conscience. In turn, before the will chooses something, a prior investigation of reason, the consilium, or deliberation is necessary, in order to achieve certainty regarding what should be done. Thus, the judgment of practical reason takes place after deliberation, guiding the will inclined to seek good. However, the passions can influence the will, drawing it towards apparent goods that are objectively evil. Consequently, the will allows itself to be dragged into sin. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
