Abstract Tissue engineering has provided new treatment alternatives for tissue reconstruction. Advances in the tissue engineering field have resulted in mechanical support and biological substitutes to restore, maintain or improve tissue/organs structures and functions. The application of tissue engineering technology in the vaginal reconstruction treatment can not only provide mechanical requirements, but also offer tissue repairing as an alternative to traditional approaches. In this review, we discuss recent advances in cell-based therapy in combination with scaffolds strategies that can potentially be adopted for gynaecological transplantation.

São limitadas as informações sobre a atividade residual de herbicidas aplicados no controle das soqueiras do algodoeiro e o seu potencial para afetar o desenvolvimento e a produtividade do milho semeado na safra seguinte. O objetivo desse trabalho foi identificar o efeito carryover promovido pela aplicação única e sequencial de herbicidas utilizados no controle das soqueiras do algodoeiro e estimar o intervalo de segurança entre o manejo químico da soqueira do algodoeiro e a semeadura do milho. Foram conduzidos simultaneamente dois experimentos em casa de vegetação, um para aplicação única e outro para aplicação sequencial dos tratamentos herbicidas. Os experimentos foram instalados em esquema fatorial 15 x 5, delineados em blocos casualizados com quatro repetições. O primeiro fator foi composto por tratamentos herbicidas e o segundo fator por cinco épocas de semeadura do milho após a aplicação (0, 30, 60, 90 e 120 dias). As parcelas experimentais foram compostas de vasos plásticos com capacidade para 3 dm3 preenchidos com solo de textura argilosa (470 g kg-1 de argila), seco e peneirado. Os herbicidas utilizados foram 2,4-D, glyphosate, saflufenacil, [imazapic+imazapyr], dicamba, fluroxypyr e sulfentrazone. Conclui-se que a aplicação sequencial da maioria dos tratamentos proporcionou um aumento na atividade residual dos herbicidas avaliados. Os tratamentos 2,4-D (1340 g ha-1), 2,4-D + glyphosate (1340 + 720 g ha-1) e 2,4-D + glyphosate + saflufenacil (1340 + 720 + 105 g ha-1) apresentaram os menores intervalos de segurança e foram aqueles que apresentaram o menor risco de afetar o milho semeado em sucessão, mesmo em aplicações sequenciais. Contudo, os tratamentos constituídos pela associação com herbicidas de maior atividade residual no solo como o dicamba, fluroxypyr, sulfentrazone e [imazapic+imazapyr], apresentaram maior potencial de carryover para a cultura do milho, sendo observado intervalo de segurança superior a 94 dias após a aplicação sequencial de 2,4-D + glyphosate + sulfentrazone.

This introduction to this special issue devoted to mental hygiene movements in Europe examines the issues and problems facing their historical study. While the definition of mental hygiene was obvious to contemporaries, it referred to highly divergent projects in different socio-political contexts. As a result, historians have struggled to come up with a unified definition of mental hygiene as a category for analysis. After outlining historiographical responses to this question, this essay suggests that mental hygiene can best be understood as a specific way of articulating four dimensions of the psychiatric discipline, namely its organization and its relationship to the state, individuals and science. The final section provides an overview of the themes developed by the articles in this special issue. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

O presente trabalho busca falar sobre a ansiedade, a qual se apresenta frequentemente nos sujeitos da atualidade, ainda mais em uma época de globalização e em que as tecnologias e o mercado mudam constantemente, contribuindo para tornar as pessoas mais ansiosas e adoecidas. Apresentarei um caso de uma paciente que demostra um grau elevado de ansiedade, com a qual realizei psicoterapia como estagiária no Serviço Integrado de Saúde. A partir das concepções da Gestalt-terapia, penso na ansiedade como um sintoma e uma forma de funcionamento, e não como um transtorno. A noção de diagnóstico como processo norteia a compreensão diagnóstica sobre a paciente, possibilitando um mapa a seguir no caminho compartilhado da psicoterapia. Por fim, abordo questões relativas ao acompanhamento de pacientes com sintomas de ansiedade na rede pública de saúde.

Background. To measure International Normalized Ratio (INR) in hemodialysis patients with tunneled dialysis catheters (TDCs), blood sampling is frequently obtained via the catheter at the start of the session. INR measurements via finger-prick point of care testing (POCT) and via blood sampling taken from the dialysis circuit are evaluated as alternatives. Methods. In 14 hemodialysis patients with TDCs, treated with vitamin K antagonists (VKA), INR measurements via POCT were compared with plasma INR samples taken via the catheter at the start of dialysis and via the dialysis circuit after 30 and 60 minutes during 3 nonconsecutive dialysis sessions. Results. Blood samples taken at the start of dialysis at the catheter site were frequently contaminated with heparin originating from the locking solution (unfractionated heparin concentration (UFH) >1.0 IU/ml in 13.2%). POCT INR at the start of dialysis was not different from plasma INR after 30 and 60 minutes (Wilcoxon test p=0.113, n = 37, and p=0.631, n = 36, respectively). Moreover, there was no difference between POCT INR at the start of dialysis and POCT INR after 30 and 60 minutes (Wilcoxon test p=0.797 and p = 0.801, respectively; n = 36). Passing and Bablok regression equation was used, y = 0.460 + 0.733x; n = 105. Treatment decisions based on these 2 methods showed a very good overall agreement (kappa = 0.810; 95% CI: 0.732–0.889; n = 105). Conclusions. Measuring plasma INR via the TDC at the start of dialysis should be abandoned. Measuring POCT INR via a finger prick at the start or even after 30 to 60 minutes is an alternative. The most elegant alternative is to take plasma INR samples via the dialysis circuit 30 minutes or later after the start of the dialysis.

ABSTRACT: Ryegrass is an important weed in wheat cultivations due to the evolution of resistance to different mechanisms of action. This study aimed to compare the phenological development, fitness cost, and competitive ability between ryegrass biotypes susceptible and with multiple resistance to 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase (EPSPs) and acetolactate synthase (ALS) inhibiting herbicides. Fitness cost and phenological development were evaluated from biotypes grown in pots, and morphological growth variables were determined up to 140 days after emergence. Phenological development was evaluated with a fitness cost. Competitive ability was determined in a replacement-series experiment with proportions of resistant and susceptible ryegrass. The tested proportions were 100:0 (pure resistant ryegrass stand), 75:25, 50:50, 25:75, and 0:100% (pure susceptible ryegrass stand), where the number of tillers, height, leaf area, and shoot dry matter were evaluated at 50 days after emergence. The longer tillering period of resistant ryegrass was the main factor involved in the difference in phenological development between biotypes. The resistant biotype was superior to the susceptible regarding height, shoot dry matter, and absolute growth rate, while the susceptible biotype had a higher number of tillers and leaf area ratio. Thus, the resistant biotype had no fitness cost. For competitive ability, no difference was observed between biotypes in the different tested proportions when they occupied the same ecological niche.

ABSTRACT: Resistance to herbicides is one of the main factors responsible for weed control failures. Once uncontrolled and stressed, resistant weeds demand a new application of herbicides from different modes of action, which results in higher monetary costs and environmental impact. Knowledge of weed sensitivity levels to herbicides before making decisions for their management in the field is paramount to increasing the efficiency of integrated weed management. Thus, methods that allow the rapid determination of sensitivity levels can help to the correct recommendation before the application, and thus, favor the greater technical, economic and environmental efficiency of weed management. The objective of this work was to validate a rapid method to detect the levels of sensitivity of black picker (Bidens pilosa) and horseweed (Conyza sumatrensis) to saflufenacil. Dose-response experiments were performed in growth chamber, greenhouse and field. The control provided by different doses of the saflufenacil herbicide was evaluated in each environment, and the results correlated within each species. The results showed a significant positive correlation for the results obtained in growth chamber and greenhouse for black picker and horseweed. These results indicate that the method developed in the growth chamber can replace greenhouse tests for determination of the sensitivity of black picker and horseweed to saflufenacil.

O presente estudo objetiva analisar como o Letramento Científico tem sido desenvolvido pelos docentes de Biologia nas escolas públicas de Ensino Médio do município de Iguatu/CE. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa, de cunho exploratório, com aproximações de estudo de caso. Para coleta dos dados, utilizou-se entrevista semiestruturada junto a 13 professores. As informações obtidas foram analisadas à luz da Análise Textual Discursiva. Os resultados demonstraram que os professores entrevistados apresentam insegurança quanto ao tema deste estudo, bem como, dificuldades em fazer relação com suas práticas diárias. Não possuem clareza quanto ao conceito de Letramento Científico. Utilizam como estratégia pedagógica principal para as aulas o livro didático, o qual muitas vezes é desconexo da realidade dos alunos, conforme os entrevistados. É possível inferir que este tema deve ser problematizado entre os professores a fim de habilitá-los para a reflexão, buscando uma prática docente intimamente significante para os alunos, almejando o Letramento científico destes.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the interaction between human mesenchymal cells adipoderived with PLGA/PIepox scaffold made by the centrifugation technique. The best plating cell density was predicted between 0.32 × 105, 0.65 × 105 and 1.3 × 105 and the best culture time between 24, 48, 72 h. The metabolic activity of the tested groups was similar to their respective controls, except for the higher density and longer cultivation time, which were metabolically more active. The association between the PLGA/PIepox scaffold and adipoderived mesenchymal cells can be considered for future in vivo studies in tissue engineering. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BACKGROUND:Over the last twenty years, predicting psychosis has become a priority of both research and policies. Those approaches include the use of the At Risk Mental State category (ARMS) and of standardized predictive tools. In comparison to most developed countries, early interventions programs are only little developed in France. However, cases of young patients presenting unclear symptoms that might be a beginning psychosis or might as well reflect some adolescent unease are commonplace in psychiatry. Yet little is known about the routine practices of youth psychiatrists regarding psychosis risk management. Do they anticipate mental disorders? METHOD:The Grounded Theory is an agreed-upon qualitative method in social science field that links subjective experiences (individual narratives) to social processes (professional norms and mental health policies). 12 French youth psychiatrists were interviewed about psychosis early management and their daily prognosis practices with teenagers. RESULTS:If all participants were aware of early intervention programs, most of them did not make use of standardized scales. Psychiatrists' reluctance toward a psychosis risk standardized assessment was shaped by three difficulties: first the gap between theoretical knowledge and practice; second their impossibility to make reliable prognoses; and third, the many uncertainties surrounding medical judgment, adolescence and the nature of psychosis. Nevertheless, they provided their young patients with multiple months follow up without disclosing any risk category. CONCLUSION:Anticipating a psychosis onset remains a highly uncertain task for psychiatrists. In France, psychiatrists' inconspicuous risk management might be supported by the universal costs coverage that is not conditional on a diagnosis disclosure.
