The War on Drugs resulted in increased arrest rates for women. Most of these arrests have been for low-level offenses, often involving cannabis. As states legalize cannabis, it is important to examine trends in arrests for women in a setting of early cannabis law reform. We examine National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) monthly cannabis arrest rates in Colorado, one of the first two states to legalize cannabis for recreational purposes, from January 2010 through December 2016 using an interrupted time series approach. The interruption is conceptualized as the legalization of recreational marijuana in December 2012. Our results document an immediate statistically significant and sizable drop in cannabis-related arrests for women following legalization. However, troublesome racial and ethnic disparities persist. In this paper, we review and analyze the criminal justice–related decisions of the 2022 term of the United States Supreme Court. We also provide a summary of the Court's voting patterns and opinion authorship. Fourteen of the Court's 58 decisions touched on criminal justice. There were significant decisions involving the First Amendment, the Sixth Amendment, and federal criminal statutes. Each of these is discussed in turn. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Presents findings from a questionnaire in which inmates were queried regarding their perceptions of a residential substance abuse treatment program. Findings reveal that inmates enrolled in the first and/or third phase of the treatment tended to be more positive in their perception of program content, therapeutic atmosphere, and quality of services provided than those in the middle phase of treatment. The article presents the discussion on search and seizure, sentencing, and the interpretation of federal statutes. Topics include variety of areas including abortion rights, gay and transgender rights, and immigrant rights; and interested in articulating the individual judicial philosophy during running the Court and reducing the appearance of discord on the Court.

The Supreme Court has undergone significant changes in personnel in the last few years with the death of Chief Justice Rehnquist and the retirement of Justice O'Connor. As the Court begins a new chapter under Chief Justice Roberts, several biographies of current and former justices have been published. This review essay examines three biographies of justices who played a major role in shaping the Court over the past 25 years. Justice Blackmun joined the Court in the early 1970s and wrote several major opinions, including Roe v. Wade. Justice O'Connor was the first woman on the Court, joining it in the early 1980s, and played a major role as a centrist, 'swing' vote in close cases. Justice Thomas joined the Court in the late 1980s, after an incredibly contentious confirmation hearing, and has sought to undo much of the work of the modern Court. Historically, there have been two competing goals of probation: law enforcement and rehabilitation of the offender. Accordingly, the role, functions, and tasks of probation officers are at times in conflict. In this paper we explore the roles of adult and juvenile probation officers and compare their statutorily prescribed duties. In so doing we attempt to uncover what differences exist between adult and juvenile probation officers. We conclude that there are no appreciable differences between the orientation (either law enforcement or rehabilitation) of the tasks adult and juvenile probation officers are mandated to perform. Moreover, the task orientation of probation officers (adult and juvenile) is slanted towards law enforcement. KEYWORDS.
