The entrepreneur figures centrally in understandings of contemporary societies. Often left unexamined is its necessary corollary, the angel investor: an amateur financier who invests not just money, but self. This dissertation shows how specific financial instruments and corporate forms work to turn the uncertainty of early-stage business into a terrain where people make friends, hone knowledges, and take joy in “irrational” expenditure. While angel investing has traditionally been an elite pursuit, recent U.S. securities deregulation has encouraged its widespread uptake through internet platforms, a process which has encountered frictions. My analysis demonstrates that financialization proceeds not only through the expansion of anonymous markets and powerful institutions, but also through affective ways of knowing, doing, and relating. In doing so, I make visible a new way that capitalism accommodates critiques of perceived lacks — and in the process transforms what capitalism itself is.

This thesis investigates the possibility to analyse a mobile network with sequences of UERC switches specific to each user equipment. An UERC is essentially a channel that carries information and a user equipment connects to different UERCs depending on whether they want to talk and/or send data with different qualities. As a major player in the mobile technology industry, Ericsson strives to optimise the use of the UERCs and are looking for an automated way to detect changes. The first task was to identify and retrieve the required events from the network log files in order to create the UERC sequences. As a way to test the thesis assumption, and give a proof of concept, two different data sets were analysed were changes had been made to the network settings that should have affected the UERC sequences. With the use of n-grams, Markov chains and Bayesian Estimation testing, the changes could be identified and the thesis assumption could be confirmed - UERC sequences provides a possible way of analysing a mobile network.

A problem with the widley usedanticoagulant medicine Warfarin hasalways been that the therapeutic dosevaries from person to person and thatthere has not been any methods toestimate individually-based dosingregimens. By using a new populationmodeldescribing the relationship betweenWarfarin dose and INR(internationalnormalized ratio) response fordifferent individuals based on their age,weight and genotypes, a user friendly,dose estimating program has beendeveloped in Java. The applicationestimates the INR given the individualparameters and dosing, but it's alsopossible to estimate the predicted dosegiven the desired INR. The applicationmakes it possible for others to take partof the model, and to give a moreindividualized Warfarin treatment inclinical practice.
