Abstract: International audience; The construction sector faces new challenges in order to provide smart, energy efficient and sustainable lighting environments for infrastructure, cities, buildings and the industry, in order to follow the 2050 low-carbon economy roadmap of the European Commission. In parallel, the Environmentally Conscious Smart Lighting (ECOSLIGHT) project aims to design training programs in lighting that will actively enhance employability and improve career prospects of lightingrelated professionals, while also help businesses to find the right competences they need to increase their competitiveness. In this paper by analysing critically the 438 collected answers though on-line ECOSLIGHT original developed questionnaire we were able to (1) understand clearly what are the needs of the sector for well-trained lighting professionals and (2) indent the training needs for future lighting professionals who want find jobs in the sector. Further, we could establish standard “job-profiles” for two of the most popular need lighting professionals: (1) Lighting Designers and (2) Lighting System Engineers.

Abstract: International audience; Annoyance caused by air pollution is a matter of public health as it can cause stress and ill-health and affect quality of life, among other burdens. The aim of this study is to apply the multiple correspondence analyses (MCA) technique as a differential tooling to explore relationships between variables that can influence peoples’ behaviour concerning annoyance caused by air pollution. Data were collected through a survey on air pollution, environmental issues and quality of life. Face-to-face survey studies were conducted in two industrialized urban areas (Vitoria in Brazil and Dunkirk in France). These two regions were chosen as their inhabitants often report feeling annoyed by air pollution, and both regions have similar industrial characteristics. The results showed a progressive correspondence between levels of annoyance and other active variables in the “air pollution” factor group: as the levels of annoyance increased, the levels of the other qualitative variables (importance of air quality, perceived exposure to industrial risk, assessment of air quality, perceived air pollution) also increased. Respondents who reported feeling annoyed by air pollution also thought that air quality was very important and were very concerned about exposure to industrial risks. Furthermore, they often assessed air quality as horrible, and they could frequently perceive air pollution by dust, odours and decreased visibility. The results also showed a statistically significant association between occurrence of allergies and high levels of annoyance.

Abstract: International audience; The European Union Tobacco Products Directive (EU TPD) mandates enhanced reporting obligations for tobacco manufacturers regarding 15 priority additives. Within the Joint Action on Tobacco Control (JATC), a review panel of independent experts was appointed for the scientific evaluation of the additive reports submitted by a consortium of 12 tobacco manufacturers. As required by the TPD, the reports were evaluated based on their comprehensiveness, methodology and conclusions. In addition, we evaluated the chemical, toxicological, addictive, inhalation facilitating and flavoring properties of the priority additives based on the submitted reports, supplemented by the panel's expert knowledge and some independent literature. The industry concluded that none of the additives is associated with concern. Due to significant methodological limitations, we question the scientific validity of these conclusions and conclude that they are not warranted. Our review demonstrates that many issues regarding toxicity, addictiveness and attractiveness of the additives have not been sufficiently addressed, and therefore concerns remain. For example, menthol facilitates inhalation by activation of the cooling receptor TRPM8. Abstract: This article charts the gradual sexualization of marriage in twentieth-century Greece, exploring both expert and lay ideas. First, through official writings and marital correspondence, it sketches the subtle transformation of the nineteenth-century ideal of conjugal love into a more sexualized emotion by the turn of the century. Then, it analyzes the writings of “sex experts” and the correspondence with their clients, showcasing how sexual pleasure became a priority within marriage after World War II. Lastly, the records of a postwar mental health service show that by the late 1970s, the consensus on the importance of mutual sexual satisfaction was being established.

Abstract: International audience; The medium of VideoGames, recognised as a hyper-sensory event and a new “form of literacy” according to Zimmerman, allows for the creation of atmospheres which exceed the sum of the parts, meaning audio, graphics, mechanics, etc. This paper focuses on the immersive, Dionysian aspect of sound which can create a nostalgic atmosphere for a lost future. Bioshock, displaying all sorts of atmospheric qualities, is a multi-awarded, first-person shooter game with RPG, horror and stealth game references. Its soundtrack will be analysed through the spectrum of hauntology, a term coined by Derrida, aiming to show how audio can be used to evoke extra-musical memories and contribute to the creation of a rich synthetic reality resulting in the longing of an unrealised utopia.

Abstract: International audience; The paper studies sound as a component of urban space. More specifically, it investigates the composition of urban soundscape as perceived by the area?s users and identifies it as a carrier of history and an activator of collective memory for the social groups. In this respect, it attempts to clarify the way people perceive the interaction between sound and space by analysing the features that shape the sonic image of the city and relate to the boundaries and the areas formed, the materiality of structures, the activities and the time frame they unfold. Furthermore, it discusses how sound affects the way people relate to their environment, through the procedures of sonic stimulation and appraisal and explores a series of completed projects that use sound design for the promotion of collective memory. As a practical implementation, the paper analyses the soundscape of the Exarcheia region in Athens, employing the triangulation method, as well as conceptual (psycho-geographical) mapping. The impact of the urban fabric to the soundscape is revealed and new maps are drawn, outlining the soundscape?s general structure, its 24-hour rotation and the long-term changes recorded over the last 50 years. Statistical analysis confirms earlier findings regarding the importance of subjective criteria and expectation in soundscape appraisal and people?s preferences for certain types of sounds. Mapping the sonic environment allows elements of the city?s identity to emerge and unveils indications of previous spatial policies and social transformations.

Abstract: Comment in Does cirrhosis associated with well controlled viral hepatitis confer a risk for extrahepatic cancer? Yang JD, Gores GJ. Hepatology. 2018 Oct;68(4):1217-1219. doi: 10.1002/hep.30063. Epub 2018 Jul 10.; International audience; Data on extrahepatic cancers (EHCs) in compensated viral cirrhosis are limited. The objective of the prospective multicenter Agence Nationale de Recherche sur le SIDA et les Hépatites virales CO12 CirVir cohort was to assess the occurrence of all clinical events in patients with compensated viral cirrhosis, including all types of cancer. Patients with the following inclusion criteria were enrolled in 35 French centers: (1) biopsy-proven hepatitis B virus (HBV) or hepatitis C virus (HCV) cirrhosis, (2) Child-Pugh A, or (3) absence of previous liver complications including primary liver cancer (PLC). Patients were followed up prospectively every 6 months. The standardized mortality ratio (SMR) was calculated according to age and gender using 5-year periods. The impact of sustained viral response (SVR) in HCV patients and maintained viral suppression in HBV patients were assessed using time-dependent analysis. A total of 1,671 patients were enrolled between 2006 and 2012 (median age, 54.9 years; men, 67.3%; HCV, 1,323; HBV, 317; HCV-HBV, 31). Metabolic features and excessive alcohol and tobacco consumption were recorded in 15.2%, 36.4%, and 56.4% of cases, respectively. After a median follow-up of 59.7 months, 227 PLCs were diagnosed (5-year cumulative incidence [CumI] 13.4%) and 93 patients developed EHC (14 patients with lymphoid or related tissue cancer and 79 with solid tissue cancer; 5-year EHC CumI, 5.9%). Compared to the general French population, patients were younger at cancer diagnosis, with significantly higher risk of EHC in HCV patients (SMR, 1.31; 95 confidence interval [CI], 1.04-1.64; P = 0.017) and after SVR (SMR = 1.57; 95% CI, 1.08-2.22; P = 0.013). EHC was the fourth leading cause of death in the whole cohort and the first in patients with viral control/eradication.CONCLUSION: Compared to the general French population, HCV cirrhosis is associated with a higher risk of EHC and the first cause of death in patients with viral cirrhosis who achieve virological control/eradication. Abstract: International audience; Background & aims - Retrospective studies have found an unexpectedly high incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) among patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV)-associated cirrhosis who received direct-acting antiviral (DAA) agents. We analyzed data from the ANRS CO12 CirVir cohort to compare the incidence of HCC in patients with cirrhosis who received DAA therapy vs patients treated with interferon (IFN). Methods - Data were collected from 1270 patients with compensated biopsy-proven HCV-associated cirrhosis recruited from 2006 through 2012 at 35 centers in France. For descriptive purpose, patients were classified as follows: patients who received DAA treatment (DAA group, n = 336), patients who achieved a sustained virologic response (SVR) following an IFN-based regimen (SVR-IFN group, n = 495), or patients who never received DAA treatment and never had an SVR following IFN therapy (non-SVR group, n = 439). The patients were included in HCC surveillance programs based on ultrasound examination every 6 months, and clinical and biological data were recorded. To account for confounding by indication due to differences in patient characteristics at treatment initiation, we constructed a time-dependent Cox regression model weighted by the inverse probability of treatment and censoring (IPTCW) to assess the treatment effects of DAA on time until HCC. Results - Compared with patients in the SVR-IFN group, patients in the DAA group were older, higher proportions had diabetes or portal hypertension, and liver function was more severely impaired. The crude 3-year cumulative incidences of HCC were 5.9% in the DAA group, 3.1% in the SVR-IFN group, and 12.7% in the non-SVR group (overall P < .001; unadjusted hazard ratio [HR] for HCC 2.03; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.07-3.84; P = .030 for the DAA group vs the SVR-IFN group). HCC characteristics were similar among groups. Among patients with HCC, the DAA group received less-frequent HCC screening than the other 2 groups (P = .002). After Cox analyses weighted by the IPTCW, we found no statistically significant increase in risk of HCC associated with DAA use (HR 0.89; 95% CI 0.46-1.73; P = .73). Conclusions - Analysis of data from the ANRS CO12 CirVir cohort reveals that the apparent increase in HCC incidence observed in patients with cirrhosis treated with DAAs compared with patients who achieved SVR following an IFN therapy can be explained by patient characteristics (age, diabetes, reduced liver function) and lower screening intensity.

Abstract: International audience; Background & aims - Semi-annual surveillance for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is recommended for patients with cirrhosis. We aimed to determine how compliance with HCC surveillance guidelines affects survival times of patients with hepatitis C virus- or hepatitis B virus-associated compensated cirrhosis who developed HCC. Methods - We collected data from the prospective ANRS CO12 CirVir study, from March 2006 through June 2012, on 1671 patients with biopsy-proven viral cirrhosis and no previous liver complications who were undergoing surveillance for HCC at 35 centers in France. Only 216 patients who developed HCC during the follow-up period were included in the analysis. Patients were considered to be compliant with surveillance guidelines if the time between their last surveillance image evaluation and diagnosis of HCC were fewer than 7 months and noncompliant if this time was 7 months or longer. Results - HCC was detected in 216 patients, at a median follow-up time of 59.7 months. Of these patients, 140 (80.5%) were Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer stage 0/A, 135 (69.9%) received first-line curative treatment (15 underwent transplantation, 29 underwent resection, 89 received percutaneous ablation, and 2 received resection and percutaneous ablation), and 129 (60.0%) were compliant with surveillance guidelines. Seventy-nine of the patients with HCC died; 49 deaths were associated with tumor progression. After lead-time adjustment, overall survival (OS) time was longer in patients compliant with surveillance guidelines (median OS time, 53.2 months) than noncompliant patients (median OS time, 25.4 months) (P = .0107); this difference remained significant even when we changed lead time assumptions. In multivariate analysis adjusted for a propensity score, compliance with HCC surveillance guidelines was associated with low tumor burden, allocation of curative treatment, and increased OS time compared with noncompliance (hazard ratio for OS, 2.19; 95% confidence interval, 1.16-4.14; P = .0150). Conclusions - In an analysis of data from the ANRS CO12 CirVir cohort, we associated compliance with HCC surveillance guidelines (fewer than 7 months between image evaluations) with early diagnosis, allocation of curative treatment, and longer adjusted OS of patients with hepatitis C virus- or hepatitis B virus-associated compensated cirrhosis and a diagnosis of HCC.

Abstract: Medical professionals are viewing an increasing number of images and videos in their clinical routine. However, various types of distortions can affect medical imaging data, and therefore impact the viewers' experienced quality and their clinical practice. Thus it is necessary to quantify this impact and understand how the viewers, i.e., medical experts, perceive the quality of (distorted) images and videos. In this paper, we present an up-to-date review of the methodologies used in the literature for the subjective quality assessment of medical images and videos and discuss their merits and drawbacks depending on the use case.

Abstract: International audience; BACKGROUND: The objective was to examine the role of a sustained virological response (SVR) on major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) in patients with compensated hepatitis C virus (HCV) cirrhosis.METHODS: Patients with the following criteria were enrolled in 35 French centers: (1) biopsy-proven HCV cirrhosis; (2) Child-Pugh A; (3) positive viremia; and (4) no prior liver complication, and then prospectively followed. All patients received HCV treatment after inclusion. MACEs included stroke, myocardial infarction, ischemic heart disease, heart failure, peripheral arterial disease, cardiac arrest, and cardiovascular death. SVR, defined as negative viremia 12 weeks posttreatment, was considered as a time-dependent covariate, and its effect on MACE occurrence was assessed. The median follow up was 57.5 months, ending in December 2015.RESULTS: Sixty-two of 878 (7.1%) patients presented a total of 79 MACEs. The main predictive baseline factors of MACEs were Asian ethnic origin, history of MACEs, arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, current smoking, low serum albumin level, high total bilirubin level, and low platelet count. In multivariate analysis, SVR was associated with a decreased risk of MACEs (hazard ratio=0.35, 95% CI 0.09-0.97, P=.044), whereas Asian ethnic origin, arterial hypertension, smoking, and low serum albumin level remained predictive of MACE occurrence. The 5-year survival rate was 60.1% versus 87.5% in patients who did versus those who did not present a MACE (PCONCLUSIONS: In patients with compensated HCV-related cirrhosis, Asian ethnic origin, arterial hypertension, smoking, and low serum albumin are independent predictive factors of cardiovascular events, whereas an SVR is associated with a decreased rate of cardiovascular events.

Abstract: International audience; Despite effective targeted therapy acting on KIT and PDGFRA tyrosine kinases, gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) escape treatment by acquiring mutations conveying resistance to imatinib mesylate (IM). Following the identification of NKp30-based immunosurveillance of GIST and the off-target effects of IM on NK cell functions, we investigated the predictive value of NKp30 isoforms and NKp30 soluble ligands in blood for the clinical response to IM. The relative expression and the proportions of NKp30 isoforms markedly impacted both event-free and overall survival, in two independent cohorts of metastatic GIST. Phenotypes based on disbalanced NKp30B/NKp30C ratio (Delta BClow) and low expression levels of NKp30A were identified in one third of patients with dismal prognosis across molecular subtypes. This Delta BClow blood phenotype was associated with a pro-inflammatory and immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment. In addition, detectable levels of the NKp30 ligand sB7-H6 predicted a worse prognosis in metastatic GIST. Soluble BAG6, an alternate ligand for NKp30 was associated with low NKp30 transcription and had additional predictive value in GIST patients with high NKp30 expression. Such GIST microenvironments could be rescued by therapy based on rIFN-alpha and anti-TRAIL mAb which reinstated innate immunity.

Abstract: Our aim was to analyze, in a multivariate framework, how sociodemographic, health-service utilization, health needs, and lifestyle risk factors influence drug utilization and polypharmacy (PP) in a general population in Greece.The cross-sectional study took place in 2006. In total 1,005 individuals (18 years old) of 1,388 who were approached (response rate 72.4%) were interviewed by trained interviewers. Thirty-seven reported only over-the-counter (OTC) drug use and were excluded. The final sample was 968 individuals. Multivariable logistic regression and multinomial regression analyses were conducted to determine the predictors of drug use and PP at a significance level of p 0.05.The results revealed a high rate of drug use and PP. Drug use and PP were more common among women and increased with age. Advanced age 65+ [odds ratio (OR) 11.6), university education (OR 2.3), visits to physician (OR 2.2), comorbidity (OR 6.8), or poor physical and mental health were associated with higher likelihood of using drugs. Minor (two to three drugs) and major (four or more drugs) PP depended on comorbidity, physical health, and increased age. Furthermore, visits to physicians (OR 1.1), smoking (OR 3.0), and obesity (OR 3.8) increased the likelihood of major PP.Overall, drug utilization and PP depended on health needs followed by education, utilization of health services, and age. Social disparities do persist and, after adjustments for health needs and obesity, had a significant influence on PP.

Abstract: International audience; Greece‘s relation with the West during the Cold War era has constantly attracted theattention of Greek and international scholarship. In this relationship, continuities andbreaks become evident. The postwar era was marked by the continuation of theagonizing Greek effort to integrate in the West. Thus, there was an effort to bringrelations with the major Western European states (Britain, France, West Germany,Italy) back to a kind of normalcy. This, as could be expected, was a particularlydemanding endeavour, especially regarding the former Axis powers, against whichGreece had fought during the Second World War. The Cold War provided a contextor a medium which facilitated the rebuilding of bilateral contacts. There also were breaks, or at least novelties, pointing to the ascent of a newera of international relations. The US-Greek special relationship, forged during thedifficult years of the Greek civil war but also burdened by the memories of USpenetration in Greek policy-making in 1947-52, was a salient novel element. Greece‘sparticipation in NATO was an unprecedented event:this was the first time that thecountry allied formally with the major powers of the West. Last but not least,Athens‘s ambition to participate in supranational European integration resulted in the1961 Association Agreement with the European Economic Community, and openednew roads for Greece‘s internal development and international relations. This volume presents archival material from the West German, French, Italian,British and US national archives, as well as from the NATO Archives, addressingimportant aspects of this historical phenomenon. This multi-archival research wasundertaken by a large number of scholars, in the context of the Thalis project onGreece and the Cold War, coordinated by the University of Macedonia: KonstantinaE. Botsiou, Dionysios Chourchoulis, Christos Christidis, Evanthis Hatzivassiliou,Vaios Kalogrias, Periklis-Stelios Karavis, Manolis Koumas, Sofia Papastamkou, andIoannis Sakkas. All researchers also suggested documents for possible publication,thus creating a large pool of archival material. The editors then made the finalselection and prepared this volume.This volume cannot, of course, tell the whole story of Greece‘s relationshipwith the West in the postwar era. It aims to highlight important landmarks orperspectives, as seen by the other Western capitals. It is hoped, however, that it willcontribute to a widening of the debate on one of the most important aspects ofcontemporary Greek history.

Abstract: International audience; The holiday period at Sparta associated with the Hyakinthia is mentioned by Herodotus in connection with the ten days during which an Athenian embassy was detained there in 479 B. C., although, according to Polycrates, the Spartans celebrated the Hyakinthia for three days. The apparent contradiction between Herodotus and Polycrates can be accounted for, if one recalls that the actual festival often occupied part of a longer holiday called the hieromênia. A careful reading of the Herodotean text suggests that the Hyakinthia lasted at least nine days. We argue that during the period preceding the actual festival the Spartans set up tents in the shrine of Apollo at Amyklai in order to accommodate the κοπίς, the ritual dinner held on the second day of the festival. Lastly, we argue that the sacrifice of numerous goats to Apollo for the kopis was the chief feature of the festival, which ended with athletic games on the third day.; La période de trêve associée à Sparte aux Hyakinthia est mentionnée par Hérodote à propos des dix jours durant lesquels une ambassade athénienne y fut retenue en 479 avant notre ère. Cependant, selon Polycrates, les Spartiates ne célébraient les Hyakinthia que pendant trois jours. Abstract: Part 2: MHDW Workshop; International audience; The purpose of this paper is to design and to implement proper color modification methods for enhancing visual perception of digital images for people with protanopia (one of the types of Color Vision Deficiency). This paper proposes one simulation method and two daltonization methods for the modification of digital colored images, implementing the additional step of quantization for a faster modification of colors which are not correctly perceived. In order to avoid color confusion a color checking module is implemented and optimal daltonization parameters are selected. The ultimate objective of this paper is to minimize the total processing time to such an extent that it is possible to apply the proposed methods to real-time sequences (online video). The entire application is tested in a set of artificial and real images, while the performance of the proposed algorithms is evaluated in an appropriately selected set of colored images.

Abstract: Part 18: Mobile Gaming, Mobile Life - Interweaving the Virtual and the Real; International audience; Educators and museum curators have recognized the value of interactivity, but it remains unclear what is the right level of interactivity in informal learning settings, such as museums. In this study, we explore the effect of increasing levels of interactivity on learning performance and students’ intention for future museum visits. We developed an educational mobile application based on QR codes and quiz software, in order to augment visual arts comprehension during a visit to an art gallery. In addition to the mobile-based version of the game, a paper-based version was also employed followed by a controlled experiment. A total of 60 lyceum students (between 15 and 16 years old) participated in a between-groups evaluation that compared the performance of three levels of interactivity (passive guided tour, paper-based, mobile-based), as well as the perceptions among the groups. The results indicate that the mobile-based student group had higher performance in the post-assessment when compared with the paper-based one. Notably, perceived interest for the game affects students’ perceptions for a future museum visit. Further research should consider the effects of higher-fidelity types of mobile applications, such as 3D graphics, as well as augmented-reality games.

Le paradoxe qui en découle est dû au fait que le discours officiel de la cité reproduit des narrations qui remettent en question la légitimité de la succession sociale. La réponse qui est proposée est que, dans certains cas, les narrations de viols divins sont utilisées comme le moyen suprême pour la « construction » d’un nouveau discours hégémonique et dominant qui légitime l’expansion de la souveraineté d’une cité ainsi que ses visées colonialistes.

La seconde, un prélèvement des alcools dans de l'eau pure et une analyse par chromatographie en phase gazeuse équipée d'un détecteur d'ionisation de flamme. La troisième, un prélèvement des acides organiques dans l'eau pure et une analyse de l'acide formique par chromatographie ionique, et des acides supérieurs par chromatographie gazeuse.Ces méthodes sont appliquées à la recherche de précurseurs de polluants non réglementés issus d'émissions de véhicules. Un plan d'expériences, combinant des carburants spécifiques et l'analyse des gaz d'échappement, est conduit sur un moteur CFR. Ces tests démontrent plusieurs corrélations qualitatives et quantitatives entre les composants du carburant et les polluants émis. Des précurseurs d'hydrocarbures, d'aldéhydes, de cétones, d'alcools et d'acides organiques sont ainsi découverts. Les plus importants résultats montrent que les aromatiques et le cyclohexane contribuent à l'émission du benzène, l'1-hexène et le cyclohexane à celle du 1,3 butadiène, les aromatiques à la formation de l'acide propionique et l'o-xylène à celle de l'acide butyrique.; Methods for the analysis on sulfur dioxide, alcohols and organic acids have been developed. Abstract: Background Human erythropoiesis is characterized by distinct gene expression profiles at various developmental stages. Previous studies suggest that fetal-to-adult hemoglobin switch is regulated by a complex mechanism, in which many key players still remain unknown. Here, we report our findings from whole transcriptome analysis of erythroid cells, isolated from erythroid tissues at various developmental stages in an effort to identify distinct molecular signatures of each erythroid tissue. Results From our in-depth data analysis, pathway analysis, and text mining, we opted to focus on the VEGFA gene, given its gene expression characteristics. Selected VEGFA genomic variants, identified through linkage disequilibrium analysis, were explored further for their association with elevated fetal hemoglobin levels in β-type hemoglobinopathy patients. Our downstream analysis of non-transfusion-dependent β-thalassemia patients, β-thalassemia major patients, compound heterozygous sickle cell disease/β-thalassemia patients receiving hydroxyurea as fetal hemoglobin augmentation treatment, and non-thalassemic individuals indicated that VEGFA genomic variants were associated with disease severity in β-thalassemia patients and hydroxyurea treatment efficacy in SCD/β-thalassemia compound heterozygous patients. Conclusions Our findings suggest that VEGFA may act as a modifier gene of human globin gene expression and, at the same time, serve as a genomic biomarker in β-type hemoglobinopathy disease severity and hydroxyurea treatment efficacy. 27. Suicidality and self-compassion in patients with major depressive disorder: the mediating role of the avoidant attachment type.

Abstract: Despite recent studies establishing self-compassion and secure attachment to be vital protective factors against suicidality, the role of attachment as a psychological mechanism that may mediate the relationship between self-compassion and suicidality has not been investigated to date. This study aims to address this gap by investigating whether attachment styles, specifically avoidant attachment, mediate the link between self-compassion and suicidality in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). 273 adult patients with MDD completed the Suicidal Behaviors Questionnaire-Revised (SBQ-R), the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II), the Experiences in Close Relationships Scale (ECRS), and the Self-Compassion Scale (SCS) along with sociodemographic and clinical questions. Statistical analyses included correlation analysis and Mann- Whitney U tests to examine the relationships and possible differences between the non-suicidal group and the suicidal group of patients in terms of attachment style, self-compassion, and self-destructive behaviors. A mediation analysis to assess the role of attachment avoidance in the relationship between selfcompassion and suicidality was also conducted. Both attachment anxiety and avoidance were positively associated with suicidality and depression and negatively with self-compassion. The patients with increased suicidality differed significantly in the levels of depression, self-compassion, and attachment compared to those who were non-suicidal. The protective mechanism of self-compassion against suicidality was mediated by attachment avoidance. Research findings highlight the need for considering attachment-related issues to understand suicidality and tailor interventions in the field of suicide prevention and treatment while they gauge treatment priorities in working with depressed patients with suicidal thoughts and behaviors.

Abstract: New psychoactive substances (NPS)-designed to mimic various legal or illegal substances-are an emerging worldwide health problem. Their identification and quantification in either complex seized samples or powders are critical; moreover, their determination in biological fluids is an intriguing goal in the forensic toxicology field. Synthetic cathinones are one of the most important groups among NPS. The current paper was designed as a pilot study to investigate the application of NMR techniques to identify and quantify unknown NPS compounds in deuterated dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO-d 6 ) and in urine using the synthetic cathinone benzylone (3,4-methylenedioxy-N-benzylcathinone, BMDP) as a pilot compound. In the first part of our study, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopic characterization was performed using 1D and 2D homonuclear and heteronuclear NMR spectroscopic methods as long as diffusion ordered spectroscopy (DOSY). Following the above, the assignment of benzylone in DMSO-d 6 was performed, and a distinct spectroscopic pattern was proposed. In the second part of our study, a NMR spectroscopic approach was applied for benzylone identification and quantification in a spiked with benzylone urine. Following the above, the assignment of benzylone in spiked urine was performed. A distinct pattern of the H11, H14, H15, and H8 signals on the 1 H NMR spectra was observed and suggested as a "NMR spectroscopic pattern/signature" enabling the identification of benzylone moieties in urine. On the other hand, the applied NMR techniques showed low sensitivity in quantitating benzylone in spiked urine. 34. The Efficacy of a Food Supplement in the Treatment of Tinnitus with Comorbid Headache: A Statistical and Machine Learning Analysis with a Literature Review.

Abstract: Introduction: Tinnitus, the perception of sound without an external auditory stimulus, affects approximately 10-15% of the population and is often associated with significant comorbidities such as headaches. These conditions can severely impact the quality of life. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of a food supplement in reducing the symptoms of both tinnitus and headache in patients experiencing these conditions concurrently., Methods: This prospective study included 32 patients (21 males and 11 females) aged between 23 and 68 years (mean age 49.38 years) who were experiencing both tinnitus and headache. The study assessed the impact of a food supplement on tinnitus and headache over a 90-day treatment period using three main instruments: the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI), the Headache Impact Test (HIT-6), and a Visual Analog Scale (VAS) for discomfort. Statistical analyses, including paired t tests, were conducted to compare pre- and posttreatment scores. In the same dataset, Ridge Regression, a linear regression model with L2 regularization, was used to predict posttreatment scores (THI90, HIT90, VAS90)., Results: The results indicated a statistically significant reduction in all three measures after 90 days of treatment. The mean THI score decreased from 29.81 to 27.06 (p = 0.011), the mean HIT-6 score decreased from 50.41 to 48.75 (p = 0.019), and the mean VAS score for discomfort decreased from 7.63 to 7.13 (p = 0.033). The optimal Ridge Regression model was found with an "alpha" value of approximately 3.73. The performance metrics on the test set were as follows: Mean Squared Error (MSE) of 13.91 and an R-squared score of 0.61, indicating that the model explains approximately 61% of the variance in the posttreatment scores. These results indicate that pretreatment scores are significant predictors of posttreatment outcomes, and gender plays a notable role in predicting HIT and VAS scores posttreatment., Conclusion: This study demonstrates that a food supplement is effective in reducing the symptoms of tinnitus and headache in patients suffering from both conditions. The significant improvements in THI, HIT-6, and VAS scores indicate a positive impact on patient quality of life. 35. Corneal changes after large (9mm) lateral rectus muscle recession measured with Pentacam®.

Abstract: Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate alterations in corneal astigmatism, axial anterior corneal curvature, anterior chamber depth, and central corneal thickness (CCT) two months after the unilateral recession of lateral rectus muscle in children. Methods: This prospective study included 37 children with intermittent exotropia who would undergo unilateral lateral rectus muscle recession. All measurements were performed using Pentacam®. Comparisons were made between the operated and fellow unoperated eyes, pre- and post-operatively. The assessment was made for changes in the radius of axial curvature on major meridians at 3 and 3.5 mm from the optical corneal center in the mid-peripheral zone. Astigmatism changes of the anterior and posterior corneal surface were calculated using vector analysis software (astigMATIC®). The interaction between age or CCT and postoperative changes in anterior and posterior surface corneal astigmatism were examined with ANOVA model. Results: In the intervention group, changes in anterior and posterior corneal surface astigmatism were statistically significant, with a mean increase of 0.56Dx90 and 0.08Dx87, respectively. In the mid-peripheral corneal zone, an increase was observed in the radius of anterior corneal axial curvature, more evident temporal 3 and 3.5 mm from the corneal center on the horizontal meridian, with corresponding decrease superiorly and inferiorly at 3 and 3.5 mm from the corneal center on the vertical meridian. Discussion: The changes in total astigmatism of the operated eyes are mainly attributed to the anterior corneal surface. These changes are associated with flattening in the 180 meridian of the cornea, leading to a shift to "with-the-rule" astigmatism.

Abstract: Understanding the correlates of academic dishonesty is crucial for designing effective preventive interventions, as is the investigation of moderating factors that could affect these interactions. Despite increased interest in the Dark Triad personality traits and their potential link with unethical behavior, there is limited evidence regarding the moderating role of moral disengagement in the relationship. This study aimed to investigate academic dishonesty among Greek university students, its relationship with the Dark Triad, and the moderating role of moral disengagement, using gender as a covariate. Overall, 587 students attending Greek public Universities voluntarily completed an anonymous self-report questionnaire assessing the constructs under investigation. Results showed that male students had higher scores in unauthorized collaboration, plagiarism, Dark Triad, and moral disengagement. Moderation analysis indicated that moral disengagement had an effect in the relationship of psychopathy with unauthorized collaboration, especially among men. Overall, the findings of this study highlight the importance of psychopathy and moral disengagement in the prediction of academic dishonesty and have the potential to make a significant contribution to its prevention, particularly in Greek universities where relative initiatives are lacking.

38. Does firm carbon risk matter to banks? Evidence from the US syndicated loan market.

Abstract: Using two measures of firm carbon-risk exposure to capture convergent materiality, we examine whether the syndicated loan market considers borrowers' carbon-risk exposure in loan pricing. We find that carbon intensity does not constitute material information for banks, whereas environmental scores have a statistically significant but incidental economic effect on loan spreads. We also find inconclusive evidence that the market differentiates between firms in high and low environmentally sensitive industries. Abstract: In the realm of ophthalmic surgeries, silicone oil is often utilized as a tamponade agent for repairing retinal detachments, but it necessitates subsequent removal. This study harnesses the power of machine learning to analyze the macular and optic disc perfusion changes pre and post-silicone oil removal, using Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCTA) data. Building upon the foundational work of prior research, our investigation employs Gaussian Process Regression (GPR) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks to create predictive models based on OCTA scans. We conducted a comparative analysis focusing on the flow in the outer retina and vessel density in the deep capillary plexus (superior-hemi and perifovea) to track perfusion changes across different time points. Our findings indicate that while machine learning models predict the flow in the outer retina with reasonable accuracy, predicting the vessel density in the deep capillary plexus (particularly in the superior-hemi and perifovea regions) remains challenging. These results underscore the potential of machine learning to contribute to personalized patient care in ophthalmology, despite the inherent complexities in predicting ocular perfusion changes.

Abstract: The intersection of COVID-19 and pulmonary embolism (PE) has posed unprecedented challenges in medical diagnostics. The critical nature of PE and its increased incidence during the pandemic underline the need for improved detection methods. This study evaluates the effectiveness of advanced deep learning techniques in enhancing PE detection in post-COVID-19 patients through Computed Tomography Pulmonary Angiography (CTPA) scans. Using a dataset of 746 anonymized CTPA images from 25 patients, we fine-tuned the state-of-the-art Ultralytics YOLOv8 object detection model, which was trained on 676 images with 1,517 annotated bounding boxes and validated on 70 images with 108 bounding boxes. After 200 epochs of training, which lasted approximately 1.021 hours, the YOLOv8 model demonstrated significant diagnostic proficiency, achieving a mean Average Precision (mAP) of 0.683 at an IoU threshold of 0.50 and a mAP of 0.246 at the IoU range of 0.50:0.95 in the validation dataset. Notably, the model reached a maximum precision of 0.85949 and a maximum recall of 0.81481, though these metrics were observed in separate epochs. These findings emphasize the model's potential for high diagnostic accuracy and offer a promising direction for deploying AI tools in clinical settings, significantly contributing to healthcare innovation and patient care post-pandemic.

Their satisfaction was gauged using a validated form featuring a 1-to-5 rating scale. The results highlighted a possible correlation between the doctors' medical departments and their satisfaction levels with ChatGPT 4.0. Significantly, doctors from certain departments (like General Surgery and Cardiology) reported lower satisfaction scores, ranging from 2.73 to 2.80 out of 5, in contrast to their colleagues from departments like Biopathology and Orthopedics, who scored between 4.00 and 4.46 out of 5. This variation in satisfaction levels underscores the diverse needs within different medical specialties and illuminates both the potential of ChatGPT and the areas needing improvement, especially in delivering department-specific medical information. 44. Understanding Romantic Relational Aggression in Emerging Adults Using Latent Profile Analysis of Jealousy and Hostile Attribution Bias.

Abstract: The present study sought to identify profiles of 753 emerging adults (62.5% females) with different levels of hostile attribution bias (HAB) and jealousy dimensions (i.e., cognitive, emotional, behavioral) and examined differences in their levels of romantic relational aggression (RoRAgg) across profiles. Participants were recruited from Greek universities and completed and online survey. Using a person-centered approach, Latent Profile Analysis indicated the presence of three profiles of participants: a) jealous and hostile intent attributers who had high scores on jealousy dimensions and HAB, b) low risk who scored low on jealousy and HAB, and c) emotionally jealous and moderate hostile intent attributers with moderate cognitive and behavioral jealousy as well as HAB, and high emotional jealousy. As predicted, jealous and hostile intent attributers scored higher on RoRAgg compared with emotionally jealous and moderate hostile intent attributers and low risk. The findings confirm previous research and are discussed in terms of their implications. 45. Greek School Nurses' Confidence With Diabetes Devices.

Abstract: Aim School nurses often use diabetes mellitus devices as part of the care provided to students with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus. The aim of this study was to explore the psychometric properties of the Greek version of the Diabetes Devices Confidence Scale (DDCS). Methods In this cross-sectional, descriptive study, 143 school nurses completed the DDCS. This is a self-administered questionnaire exploring the nurses' confidence in the use of diabetes devices. The scale was translated and culturally adapted according to the WHO guidelines. The Intraclass Correlation Coefficient and Cronbach's Alpha Index were used to explore the reliability and internal consistency, respectively. The construct validity was tested via exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis (EFA, CFA). Data were analyzed via Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), version 22.0 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY, USA). Results Significant correlations were observed between the two administrations (p<0.001) indicating the good reliability of the scale (ICC = 0525, p<0.001) while Cronbach's Alpha was 0.966 suggesting excellent internal consistency. The EFA resulted in a unidimensional solution explaining 53.7% of the total variance. The CFA showed that the model presents good fit to the data. Abstract: Background: As new treatment options for patients with higher-risk myelodysplastic syndromes are emerging, identification of prognostic markers for hypomethylating agent (HMA) treatment and understanding mechanisms of their delayed and short-term responses are essential. Early fetal hemoglobin (HbF) induction has been suggested as a prognostic indicator for decitabine-treated patients. Although epigenetic mechanisms are assumed, responding patients' epigenomes have not been thoroughly examined. We aimed to clarify HbF kinetics and prognostic value for azacytidine treated patients, as well as the epigenetic landscape that might influence HbF re-expression and its clinical relevance., Results: Serial HbF measurements by high-performance liquid chromatography (n = 20) showed induction of HbF only among responders (p = 0.030). Moreover, HbF increase immediately after the first azacytidine cycle demonstrated prognostic value for progression-free survival (PFS) (p = 0.032, HR = 0.19, CI 0.24-1.63). Changes in methylation patterns were revealed with methylated DNA genome-wide sequencing analysis (n = 7) for FOG-1, RCOR-1, ZBTB7A and genes of the NuRD-complex components. Targeted pyrosequencing methodology (n = 28) revealed a strong inverse correlation between the degree of γ-globin gene (HBG2) promoter methylation and baseline HbF levels (p = 0.003, r s = - 0.663). A potential epigenetic mechanism of HbF re-expression in azacytidine responders was enlightened by targeted methylation analysis, through hypomethylation of site -53 of HBG2 promoter (p = 0.039, r s = - 0.504), which corresponds to MBD2-NuRD binding site, and to hypermethylation of the CpG326 island of ZBTB7A (p = 0.05, r s = 0.482), a known HbF repressor. These changes were associated to blast cell clearance (p HBG2 = 0.011, r s = 0.480/p ZBTB7A = 0.026, r s = 0.427) and showed prognostic value for PFS (p ZBTB7A = 0.037, HR = 1.14, CI 0.34-3.8)., Conclusions: Early HbF induction is featured as an accessible prognostic indicator for HMA treatment and the proposed potential epigenetic mechanism of HbF re-expression in azacytidine responders includes hypomethylation of the γ-globin gene promoter region and hypermethylation of the CpG326 island of ZBTB7A. The association of these methylation patterns with blast clearance and their prognostic value for PFS paves the way to discuss in-depth azacytidine epigenetic mechanism of action., (© 2024. Abstract: Objectives: The aim of this study was to record parents' knowledge and attitudes towards bullying experienced by their children and to explore the strategies they choose to manage bullying incidents., Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted. The study population consisted of parents of children who have experienced bullying in a primary or secondary school classroom. The "Parents' Strategies to Cope with Bullying" questionnaire was used to collect data. Regarding parents' coping with bullying, the strategy "Support and advice to the child" scored the highest and the strategy "Social support and information" the next highest., Results: Of the parents, 44.3 % had received some information/education regarding the phenomenon of bullying with the most important source of information being reading. According to the results of multivariate linear regression, mothers more often applied the strategy "social support and information" (Coefficient b=0.9, 95 % CI for b=0.7 to 1.1, p<0.001) and parents with lower educational level more often applied the strategy "avoidance" (Coefficient b=-0.5, 95 % CI for b=-0.8 to -0.2, p=0.004)., Conclusions: School bullying remains a major worldwide phenomenon over time. Abstract: Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has brought significant mental health challenges, particularly for vulnerable populations, including non-binary gender individuals. The COMET international study aimed to investigate specific risk factors for clinical depression or distress during the pandemic, also in these special populations., Methods: Chi-square tests were used for initial screening to select only those variables which would show an initial significance. Risk Ratios (RR) were calculated, and a Multiple Backward Stepwise Linear Regression Analysis (MBSLRA) was followed with those variables given significant results at screening and with the presence of distress or depression or the lack of both of them., Results: The most important risk factors for depression were female (RR = 1.59-5.49) and non-binary gender (RR = 1.56-7.41), unemployment (RR = 1.41-6.57), not working during lockdowns (RR = 1.43-5.79), bad general health (RR = 2.74-9.98), chronic somatic disorder (RR = 1.22-5.57), history of mental disorders (depression RR = 2.31-9.47; suicide attempt RR = 2.33-9.75; psychosis RR = 2.14-10.08; Bipolar disorder RR = 2.75-12.86), smoking status (RR = 1.15-5.31) and substance use (RR = 1.77-8.01). The risk factors for distress or depression that survived MBSLRA were younger age, being widowed, living alone, bad general health, being a carer, chronic somatic disorder, not working during lockdowns, being single, self-reported history of depression, bipolar disorder, self-harm, suicide attempts and of other mental disorders, smoking, alcohol, and substance use., Conclusions: Targeted preventive interventions are crucial to safeguard the mental health of vulnerable groups, emphasizing the importance of diverse samples in future research., Limitations: Online data collection may have resulted in the underrepresentation of certain population groups., Competing Interests: Declaration of competing interest None pertaining to the current paper., (Copyright © 2024. 49. Patient Satisfaction With Public Pharmacy Services: Structural and Policy Implications From Greece.

Abstract: Objectives This study aimed at investigating patient satisfaction with services offered by a certain type of public pharmacies in Greece (National Organisation for Healthcare Provision (EOPYY) pharmacies), tasked with dispensing mostly high-cost drugs, in an effort to highlight the aspects to be optimized. Methods The Patient Satisfaction with Pharmacist Services Questionnaire 2.0 (PSPSQ 2.0) questionnaire was the main instrument of our research. We received 201 full responses from patients themselves and patients' companions who had visited EOPYY pharmacies in Athens, the capital city of Greece, from October 2022 to January 2023. Results Patients seem satisfied with public pharmacies in general. In fact, the professionalism of the pharmacists, the respect that patients have received from them, and the information and explanations that were given by pharmacists, received a very high score. On the other hand, the parameters referred to the information that patients received from pharmacists for the overall improvement of their health had the lowest score, revealing an apparent lag in the field of medicinal advice. Conclusion Without any doubt, patients expect their pharmacists to be more guiding and to better communicate this role. 50. Computational analysis of peripheral blood RNA sequencing data unravels disrupted immune patterns in Alzheimer's disease.

Abstract: The central nervous system (CNS) and the immune system collectively coordinate cellular functionalities, sharing common developmental mechanisms. Immunity-related molecules exert an influence on brain development, challenging the conventional view of the brain as immune-privileged. Chronic inflammation emerges as a key player in the pathophysiology of Alzheimer's disease (AD), with increased stress contributing to the disease progression and potentially exacerbating existing symptoms. In this study, the most significant gene signatures from selected RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq) data from AD patients and healthy individuals were obtained and a functional analysis and biological interpretation was conducted, including network and pathway enrichment analysis. Important evidence was reported, such as enrichment in immune system responses and antigen processes, as well as positive regulation of T-cell mediated cytotoxicity and endogenous and exogenous peptide antigen, thus indicating neuroinflammation and immune response participation in disease progression.
