Abstract

Using light-cone gauge approach, bosonic and fermionic massive and partially-massless fields in AdS(4) space are considered. For such fields, light-cone gauge action is presented. Considering the massive and partially-massless fields in helicity basis and CFT adapted basis, two simple representations of spin operators entering the light-cone gauge action are discussed. The simple representations for the spin operators are obtained by using bosonic spinor-like oscillators. The bosonic spinor-like oscillators allow also us to treat the bosonic and fermionic fields on an equal footing.

Abstract

In the present article we investigate the spin-1/2 and spin-1 cases in different bases. Next, we look for relations with the Majorana-like field operator. We show explicitly incompatibility of the Majorana anzatzen with the Dirac-like field operators in both the original Majorana theory and its generalizations. Several explicit examples are presented for higher spins too. It seems that the calculations in the helicity basis only give mathematically and physically reasonable results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Three-point correlators of spinning operators admit multiple tensor structures compatible with conformal symmetry. For conserved currents in three dimensions, we point out that helicity commutes with conformal transformations and we use this to construct three-point structures which diagonalize helicity. In this helicity basis, OPE data is found to be diagonal for mean-field correlators of conserved currents and stress tensor. Furthermore, we use Lorentzian inversion formula to obtain anomalous dimensions for conserved currents at bulk tree-level order in holographic theories, which we compare with corresponding flat-space gluon scattering amplitudes., 37+23 pages, 5 figures. Abstract

We investigate unpolarized and polarized gluon distributions and their applications to the Ioffe-time distributions, which are related to lattice QCD calculations of parton distribution functions. Guided by the counting rules based on the perturbative QCD at large momentum fraction $x$ and the color coherence of gluon couplings at small $x$, we parametrize gluon distributions in the helicity basis. By fitting the unpolarized gluon distribution, the inferred polarized gluon distribution from our parametrization agrees with the one from global analysis. A simultaneous fit to both unpolarized and polarized gluon distributions is also performed to explore the model uncertainty. The agreement with the global analysis supports the $(1-x)$ power suppression of the helicity-antialigned distribution relative to the helicity-aligned distribution. The corresponding Ioffe-time distributions and their asymptotic expansions are calculated from the gluon distributions. Our results of the Ioffe-time distributions can provide guidance to the extrapolation of lattice QCD data to the region lacking precise gluonic matrix elements. Therefore, they can help regulate the ill-posed inverse problem associated with extracting the gluon distributions from discrete data from first-principle calculations, which are available in a limited range of the nucleon momentum and the spatial separation between the gluonic currents. Given various limitations in obtaining lattice QCD data at large Ioffe time, phenomenological approaches can provide important complementary information to extract the gluon distributions in the entire $x$ region. The possibility of investigating higher-twist effects and other systematic uncertainties in the contemporary first-principle calculations of parton distributions from phenomenologically well-determined Ioffe-time distributions in the large Ioffe-time region is also discussed., Comment: PRD published version (13 pages, 9 figures)

We study the theory of the (1/2,0) ? (0,1/2) representation in helicity basis. Helicity eigenstates are not the parity eigenstates. This is in accordance with the consideration of Berestetskii, Lifshitz, and Pitaevskii. Relations to the Gelfand-Tsetlin-Sokolik-type quantum field theory are discussed. Abstract

A novel non-minimal interaction of neutral right-handed fermion and abelian gauge field in the covariant $\Theta$-exact noncommutative standard model (NCSM) which is invariant under Very Special Relativity (VSR) Lorentz subgroup, opens an avenue to study the top quark pair production at linear colliders. Here the coupling denoted as $\kappa$ and the noncommutative (NC) scale $\Lambda$. In this work, we consider two types of analysis, one is without considering helicity basis and another, considering helicity states of the polarized and unpolarized initial and final particles. In the first case, when $\kappa$ is positive and for certain values of $\Lambda$, we arrived a specific threshold value of machine energy (units of GeV) $\sqrt{s_0}$ ($ \simeq 2.52 ~\Lambda + 39$ ) may be quite useful to probe NCSM with the unpolarized beam. The statistical $\chi^2$ analysis of the azimuthal anisotropy is quite possible when $\kappa$ takes negative value $0 >\kappa> -0.596$ which persuade a lower limit on NC scale $\Lambda$ ($ 1.0\, \text{to} \, 2.4\,\text{TeV}$) at $\kappa_{max}=-0.296 (95\%$ C.L) according to luminosity ranging from $100\,fb^{-1} \text{to}1000\,fb^{-1}$ at machine energy $\sqrt{s}=1.4\,\text{TeV}\,\text{and}\, 3.0\,\text{TeV}$. In another case, we performed polarized beam analysis to probe NCSM in the light of following observables azimuthal anisotropy, helicity correlation, and top quark helicity left-right asymmetry. The polarization of the initial beam $\{ P_{e^{-}},P_{e^{+}}\} = \{-0.8,0.3\}( \{-0.8,0.6\})$ enhances the ranges of lower limit on $\Lambda$, $i.e.\, 1.13 \, \text{to} \, 2.80\,\text{TeV}$ at $\kappa_{max}$ alongside the $\kappa_{max}$ enhanced into $-0.5445 \,(-0.607)$ $95\%$C.L accord with luminosity and $\sqrt{s}$. Abstract

We present a comprehensive construction of scalar, vector and tensor harmonics on maximally symmetric three-dimensional spaces. Our formalism relies on the introduction of spin-weighted spherical harmonics and a generalized helicity basis which, together, are ideal tools to decompose harmonics into their radial and angular dependencies. We provide a thorough and self-contained set of expressions and relations for these harmonics. Being general, our formalism also allows to build harmonics of higher tensor type by recursion among radial functions, and we collect the complete set of recursive relations which can be used. While the formalism is readily adapted to computation of CMB transfer functions, we also collect explicit forms of the radial harmonics which are needed for other cosmological observables. Finally, we show that in curved spaces, normal modes cannot be factorized into a local angular dependence and a unit norm function encoding the orbital dependence of the harmonics, contrary to previous statements in the literature., Comment: 39 pages, 2 figures

Abstract

We study the rare $$\Lambda _b\rightarrow \Lambda \mu ^+\mu ^-$$ decay in the Standard Model and beyond. Beyond the Standard Model we include new vector and axial-vector operators, scalar and pseudo-scalar operators, and tensor operators in the effective Hamiltonian. Working in the helicity basis and using appropriate parametrization of the $$\Lambda _b \rightarrow \Lambda $$ hadronic matrix elements, we give expressions of hadronic and leptonic helicity amplitudes and derive expression of double differential branching ratio with respect to dilepton invariant mass squared and cosine of lepton angle. Appropriately integrating the differential branching ratio over the lepton angle, we obtain the longitudinal polarization fraction and the leptonic forward-backward asymmetry and sequentially study the observables in the presence of the new couplings. To analyze the implications of the new vector and axial-vector couplings, we follow the current global fits to $$b\rightarrow s\mu ^+\mu ^-$$ data. While the impacts of scalar couplings can be significant, exclusive $$\bar{B}\rightarrow X_s\mu ^+\mu ^-$$ data imply stringent constraints on the tensor couplings and hence the effects on $$\Lambda _b\rightarrow \Lambda \mu ^+\mu ^-$$ are negligible.

Abstract

Rigorous coupled-channel quantum scattering calculations on molecular collisions in external fields are computationally demanding due to the need to account for a large number of coupled channels and multiple total angular momenta $J$ of the collision complex. We show that by restricting the number of total angular momentum basis states to include only the states with helicities $K\le K_\text{max}$ it is possible to obtain accurate elastic and inelastic cross sections for He+CaH, Li+CaH and Li+SrOH collisions at a small fraction of the computational cost of the full coupled-channel calculations (where $K$ is the projection of the molecular rotational angular momentum on the atom-diatom axis). The optimal size of the truncated helicity basis set depends on the mechanism of the inelastic process and on the magnitude of the external magnetic field. For dipolar-mediated spin relaxation in ultracold Li+CaH and Li+SrOH collisions, we find that a minimal helicity basis set ($K_\text{max}=0$) gives quantitatively accurate results at ultralow collision energies, leading to nearly 90-fold gain in computational efficiency. Larger basis sets are required to accurately describe the resonance structure in Li+CaH and Li+SrOH inelastic cross sections in the few partial wave-regime ($K_\text{max}=3$) as well as indirect spin relaxation in He+CaH collisions ($K_\text{max}=1$). Our calculations indicate that the resonance structure is due to an interplay of the spin-rotation and Coriolis couplings between the basis states of different $K$ and the couplings between the rotational states of the same $K$ induced by the anisotropy of the interaction potential.

Abstract

We develop methods needed to perform loop calculations in light cone perturbation theory using a helicity basis, refining the method introduced in our earlier work. In particular this includes implementing a consistent way to contract the four-dimensional tensor structures from the helicity vectors with d-dimensional tensors arising from loop integrals, in a way that can be fully automatized. We demonstrate this explicitly by calculating the one-loop correction to the virtual photon to quark-antiquark dipole light cone wave function. This allows us to calculate the deep inelastic scattering cross section in the dipole formalism to next-to-leading order accuracy. The issue of the contribution of zero-modes to the light-front projection of the electromagnetic current of phenomenological models of vector particles vertices is addressed in the Drell-Yan frame. Our analytical model of the Bethe-Salpeter amplitude of a spin-1 fermion-antifermion composite state gives a physically motivated light-front wave function symmetric by the exchange of the fermion and antifermion, as in the $\rho$-meson case. We found that among the four independent matrix elements of the plus component in the light-front helicity basis only the $0\to 0$ one carries zero mode contributions. It is shown that on the de Sitter space-time the global behavior of the free Dirac spinors in momentum representation is determined by several phases factors which are functions of momentum with special properties. Such suitable phase functions can be chosen for writing down the free Dirac quantum modes of the spin basis that are well-defined even for the particles at rest in the moving local charts where the modes of the helicity basis remain undefined. Abstract

We discuss direct production of Regge excitations in the collisions of massless four-dimensional superstring states, focusing on the first excited level of open strings ending on D-branes extending into higher dimensions. We construct covariant vertex operators and identify ``universal'' Regge states with the internal parts either trivial or determined by the world-sheet SCFT describing superstrings propagating on an arbitrary Calabi-Yau manifold. We evaluate the amplitudes involving one such massive state and up to three massless ones and express them in the helicity basis. The most important phenomenological applications of our results are in the context of low-mass string (and large extra dimensions) scenarios in which excited string states are expected to be produced at the LHC as soon as the string mass threshold is reached in the center-of-mass energies of the colliding partons. Abstract

In a recent paper, it was shown that the projections of a relativistic spin operator (RSO) massive spin- $${\frac{1}{2}}$$ particle on a world-vector which can be in timelike or null tetrad direction are proportional to the helicity or Bargman-Wigner (BW) qubit, respectively. Here we consider Lorentz transformations of two-particle states, which have been constructed both in helicity basis. For convenience, instead of using the superposition of momenta we use only two momentum eigenstates (p 1 and p 2) for each particle. Consequently, in 2D momentum subspace we describe the structure of one particle in terms of the four-qubit system. We present a new approach to quantification of relativistic entanglement based on entanglement witness (EW), which is obtained by a new method of convex optimization. In addition, Lorentz invariance of entanglement using BW qubit is also studied.

Abstract

A measurement of the correlations between the polar angles of leptons from the decay of pair-produced t and (t) over bar quarks in the helicity basis is reported, using proton-proton collision data collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.6 fb(-1) at a center-of-mass energy of root s = 7 TeV collected during 2011. Candidate events are selected in the dilepton topology with large missing transverse momentum and at least two jets. The angles theta(1) and theta(2) between the charged leptons and the direction of motion of the parent quarks in the t (t) over bar rest frame are sensitive to the spin information, and the distribution of cos theta(1).cos theta(2) is sensitive to the spin correlation between the t and (t) over bar quarks. The distribution is unfolded to parton level and compared to the next-to-leading order prediction. A good agreement is observed.

Abstract

We study the discrete symmetries (P,C and T) on the kinematical level within the extended Poincare Group. On the basis of the Silagadze research, we investigate the question of the definitions of the discrete symmetry operators both on the classical level, and in the secondary-quantization scheme. We study the physical contents within several bases: light-front formulation, helicity basis, angular momentum basis, and so on, on several practical examples. We analise problems in construction of the neutral particles in the the (1/2,0)+(0,1/2) representation, the (1,0)+(0,1) and the (1/2,1/2) representations of the Lorentz Group. As well known, the photon has the quantum numbers 1^-, so the (1,0)+(0,1) representation of the Lorentz group is relevant to its description. We have ambiguities in the definitions of the corresponding operators P, C; T, which lead to different physical consequences. Abstract

Light cone perturbation theory has become an essential tool to calculate cross sections for various small-$x$ dilute-dense processes such as deep inelastic scattering and forward proton-proton and proton-nucleus collisions. Here we set out to do one loop calculations in an explicit helicity basis in the four dimensional helicity scheme. As a first process we calculate light cone wave function for one gluon emission to one-loop order in Hamiltonian perturbation theory on the light front. We regulate ultraviolet divergences with transverse dimensional regularization and soft divergences with using a cut-off on longitudinal momentum. We show that when all the renormalization constants are combined, the ultraviolet divergences can be absorbed into the standard QCD running coupling constant, and give an explicit expression for the remaining finite part., Comment: V2: Typo corrections and clarifications to text, t.b.p, Annals Phys

Abstract

The semiclassical kinetic theory of Dirac particles in the presence of external electromagnetic fields and global rotation is established. To provide the Hamiltonian formulation of Dirac particles a symplectic two-form which is a matrix in spin indices is proposed. The particle number and current densities for the Dirac particles are acquired in the helicity basis. Following a similar procedure, semiclassical kinetic theory of the Weyl particles is accomplished. It is shown that the phase-space dynamics of the Weyl and Dirac particles is directly linked. Differential and integral cross sections have been computed for elastic and rotationally inelastic collisions in (H−, H2 (v = 0, j = 0, 1)) at four different relative translational energies (Etrans = 1.66, 2.03, 2.40 and 2.79 eV) on an accurate ab initio potential energy surface by a time-independent quantum mechanical approach (helicity basis truncated at k = 2). It is shown that the exchange reaction plays only a minor role when compared to the rotational inelastic process. The computed differential inelastic cross sections are in good agreement with the experimental results at Etrans = 1.66, 2.03 and 2.79 eV for j = 1. Although the elastic process plays only a minor role for j = 0, it is not negligible for j = 1.

Abstract

Using a large sample of D + → K − π + μ + ν decays collected by the FOCUS photoproduction experiment at Fermilab, we present the first measurements of the helicity basis form factors free from the assumption of spectroscopic pole dominance. We also present the first information on the form factor that controls the s -wave interference discussed in a previous paper by the FOCUS Collaboration. We find reasonable agreement with the usual assumption of spectroscopic pole dominance and measured form factor ratios.

Abstract

Differential cross-section for both the channels of the reaction He + HD + ( v = 0, 1, 2, 3; j = 0) → HeH(D) + + D(H) has been calculated using the time-dependent quantum mechanical methodology (helicity basis truncated at k = 2) on the Palmieri et al. potential energy surface at relative translational energy E trans = 1.0 eV. It is shown that HeH + would be formed preferentially over HeD + in the forward direction, while HeD + would be preferred over HeH + in the backward direction for v = 1, 2, 3. For v = 0, HeH + is scattered preferentially over HeD + in all directions. Therefore, the isotopic branching ratio and its dependence on product scattering angle can be a sensitive probe of the potential energy surface.

Abstract

Euler angles often are used to describe the orientation of a secondary system rotated relative to a primary system by generating two auxiliary systems and the secondary with three rotations. We use basis vectors to show that the auxiliary systems of the y-convention Euler angles (used in quantum mechanics) are the cylindrical and spherical systems associated with the primary Cartesian system. We then apply Euler angle geometry to obtain an improved expression (and understanding) of the Wigner D-function addition theorem and related geometrical issues. We introduce helicity vectors and express vector spherical harmonics as combinations of Wigner D-functions to show that the D-function addition theorem is implicit within expansions of rotated vector spherical harmonics. As example applications of the Wigner D-function, we obtain an addition theorem for vector spherical harmonics and then simplify a dyadic Green function (related to Mie theory) describing inelastic light scattering from a laser-irradiated sp...

Abstract

A general procedure for constructing Poincare-invariant mass operators in a helicity basis is presented. The procedure is developed in the framework of the instant form of relativistic quantum mechanics, but it can be easily extended to other forms. The method is used to extend a previously developed Poincare-invariant coupled-channel model for the pion-nucleon system to include a photon-nucleon channel. This makes it possible to carry out calculations on photoproduction from nucleons that satisfy exactly the requirements of special relativity. Methods are given for deriving potentials that couple the photon-nucleon channel to the pion-nucleon channel. These potentials are invariant under gauge transformations of the photon's polarization vector. Amplitudes obtained by solving the Lippmann-Schwinger equations that arise from the Poincare-invariant mass operators satisfy unitarity, and hence Watson's theorem for photoproduction amplitudes. The methods presented can also be used to develop models for the photoproduction of \(\) and \(\) mesons, as well as vector mesons.

A comparison is made between the off-diagonal and helicity spin bases for top quark pair production at the FNAL Tevatron. In the off-diagonal basis, 92% of the top quark pairs are in the spin configuration up-down plus down-up, whereas in the helicity basis only 70% are left-right plus right-left. The off-diagonal basis maximizes the spin asymmetry and hence the measured angular correlations between the decay products, which are more than twice as big in this basis as compared to the helicity basis. Rate constants and photofragment excitation (PHOFEX) spectra have been calculated using phase space theory (PST) in a helicity basis. While the effect of K-conservation on rate constants is relatively subtle, PHOFEX spectra with state-selected reactant molecules appear to provide a feasible way to experimentally resolve the question of K-conservation.

Abstract

We analyze the impact of effective axial-vector coupling of the gluon on spin polarization observables in $t\overline{t}$ pair production at the LHC. Working at leading order in QCD, we compute the $t\overline{t}$ spin correlation and left-right spin asymmetry coefficients in the helicity basis in the laboratory frame as functions of the new physics scale $\ensuremath{\Lambda}$ associated with this coupling. We found that the $t\overline{t}$ invariant mass dependent asymmetries are more sensitive to the scale $\ensuremath{\Lambda}$ than the corresponding inclusive ones, in particular when suitable cuts selecting high $t\overline{t}$ invariant mass regions are imposed. In the context of this scenario, we show that the LHC has potential either to confirm or to rule out the Tevatron forward-backward top asymmetry anomaly by analyzing the $t\overline{t}$ spin correlation and left-right polarization asymmetries. On the other hand, stringent lower bound on the new physics scale $\ensuremath{\Lambda}$ can be set in this scenario if no significant deviations from the standard model predictions for those observables will be measured.

The quantum state‐counting phase space theory commonly used to describe ‘‘barrierless’’ dissociation is recast in a helicity basis to calculate photofragment v⋅j correlations. Counting pairs of fragment states with specific angular momentum projection numbers on the relative velocity provides a simple connection between angular momentum conservation and the v⋅j correlation, which is not so evident in the conventional basis for phase space state counts. The upper bound on the orbital angular momentum, l, imposed by the centrifugal barrier cannot be included simply in the helicity basis, where l is not a good quantum number. Two approaches for an exact calculation of the v⋅j correlation including the centrifugal barrier are described to address this point, although the simpler helicity state count with no centrifugal barrier correction is remarkably good in many cases. Particular attention has been paid to the question of (anti)commutation of the Charge conjugation operator and the Parity in the helicity basis. Dynamical equations have also been presented. We consider extensions of the Dirac equation with mass terms m1+i*gamma5*m2 and i*m_1+gamma*m2. The corresponding Hamiltonians are Hermitian and pseudo-Hermitian ("gamma5 Hermitian"), respectively. The fundamental spinor solutions for all generalized Dirac equations are found in the helicity basis and brought into concise analytic form. We postulate that the time-ordered product of field operators should yield the Feynman propagator (i*epsilon prescription), and we also postulate that the tardyonic as well as tachyonic Dirac equations should have a smooth massless limit. These postulates lead to sum rules that connect the form of the fundamental field anticommutators with the tensor sums of the fundamental plane-wave eigenspinors and the projectors over positive-energy and negative-energy states. In the massless case, the sum rules are fulfilled by two egregiously simple, distinguished functional forms. The first sum rule remains valid in the case of a tardyonic theory and leads to the canonical massive Dirac field. The second sum rule is valid for a tachyonic mass term and leads to a natural suppression of the right-handed helicity states for tachyonic particles, and left-handed helicity states for tachyonic spin-1/2 antiparticles. When applied to neutrinos, the theory contains a free tachyonic mass parameter. Tachyons are known to be repulsed by gravity. A simple model is constructed which reproduces the main features of the data on the single spin asymmetry observed in inclusive pion production in $p\,p$ collisions.

Abstract

A three-dimensional manifestly Poincare-invariant approach to the relativistic three-body problem is developed that satisfies the requirement of cluster separability and at the same time does not lead to so-called spurious states devoid of physical meaning. It is shown that these requirements make it possible to fix the form of the operators of the two-body interactions. The problem is solved with allowance for the dependence of the interaction operators on the spectral parameter. This dependence is a manifestation of the structure of the particles in the three-body system (i.e., it reflects the circumstance that the complete Hilbert space of state vectors of the system includes not only three-body configurations of the original particles) and leads to the appearance of certain factors in the cross sections of physical processes. Two alternative formulations of the method are investigated. In the first formulation, equations are written down for the amplitudes of transitions between free-particle states. In the second formulation, the states of interacting particles in the two-body scattering channels are used as complete orthogonal bases. Partial-wave expansions of the equations with respect to states with given total angular momentum of the system in the helicity basis are made.

A generalized top-spin analysis proposed some time ago in the context of the standard model and subsequently studied in varying contexts is now applied primarily to the case of e(+)e(-) -> t (tww) over bar with transversely polarized beams. This extends our recent work with new physics couplings of scalar (S) and tensor (T) types. We carry out a comprehensive analysis assuming only the electron beam to be transversely polarized, which is sufficient to probe these interactions, and also eliminates any azimuthal angular dependence due to the standard model or new physics of the vector (V) and axial-vector (A) type interactions. We then consider new physics of the general four-Fermi type of V and A type with both beams transversely polarized and discuss implications with longitudinal polarization as well. The generalized spin bases are all investigated in the presence of either longitudinal or transverse beam polarization to look for appreciable deviation from the SM prediction in case of the new physics. 90% confidence level limits are obtained on the interactions for the generalized spin bases with realistic integrated luminosity. In order to achieve this we present a general discussion based on helicity amplitudes and derive a general transformation matrix that enables us to treat the spin basis. We find that beamline basis combined with transverse polarization provides an excellent window of opportunity both for S, T and V, A new physics, followed by the off-diagonal basis. Abstract

We discuss topological phase transitions in ultracold Fermi superfluids induced by interactions and artificial spin-orbit fields. We construct the phase diagram for population-imbalanced systems at zero and finite temperatures, and analyze spectroscopic and thermodynamic properties to characterize various phase transitions. For balanced systems, the evolution from Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer to Bose-Einstein-condensate superfluids in the presence of spin-orbit effects is only a crossover as the system remains fully gapped, even though a triplet component of the order parameter emerges in the helicity basis. However, for imbalanced populations, spin-orbit fields induce a triplet component for the order parameter in the helicity basis, and may produce nodes in the quasiparticle excitation spectrum leading to bulk topological phase transitions of the Lifshitz type. Additionally a fully gapped phase exists, where a crossover from indirect to direct gap occurs, but a topological transition to a gapped phase possessing Majorana fermion edge states does not occur.

Abstract

The tt spin correlation at production is a fundamental prediction of QCD and a potentially incisive test of new physics coupled to top quarks. We measure the tt spin state in pp collisions at {radical}(s)=1.96 TeV using 1001 candidate events in the lepton plus jets decay channel reconstructed in the CDF II detector. In the helicity basis, for a top-quark mass of 172.5 GeV/c{sup 2}, we find a spin correlation coefficient {kappa}=0.60{+-}0.50 (stat){+-}0.16 (syst), consistent with the QCD prediction, {kappa}{approx_equal}0.40.

Abstract

In this short note, we prove the supersymmetric Kawai-Lewellen-Tye (KLT) relations between N=8 supergravity (SUGRA) and N=4 super Yang-Mills (SYM) tree-level amplitudes in the frame of S-matrix program, especially we do not use string theory or the explicit Lagrangian form of corresponding theories. Our supersymmetric KLT relations naturally unify the non-supersymmetric KLT relations and newly discovered gauge theory identities and produce more identities for amplitudes involving scalars and fermions. We point out also that these newly discovered identities can be used to reduce helicity basis from (n-3)! further down.

Abstract

We examine the recently introduced measure of chirality of a monochromatic optical field [Y. Tang and A. E. Cohen, Phys. Rev. Lett. 104, 163901 (2010)] using the momentum (plane-wave) representation and helicity basis. Our analysis clarifies the physical meaning of the measure of chirality and unveils its close relation to the polarization helicity, spin angular momentum, energy density, and Poynting energy flow. Abstract

Possible non-standard model couplings of electroweak vector bosons are studied inW pair production ine+e− collisions. Helicity amplitudes are calculated in a factorized formalism; the choice of helicity basis suggested by this formalism is shown to increase sensitivity of angular correlations to anomalous couplings. In the course of this analysis, the chi-squared test for finite data samples is more carefully formulated. BothCP-conserving andCP-violating couplings are considered.

Abstract

We describe an application of generalised unitarity to the computation of one-loop amplitudes with massive external fermions. We present analytic results for the cut-constructible parts of the leading colour contributions to the all-plus helicity configuration of the $t\bar{t}gg$ amplitude. Using a special choice for the helicity basis of the massive fermions we are able to obtain extremely compact analytic expressions. Abstract

We investigate the transition form factors between nucleon and $\Delta$(1232) particles by using a covariant quark-spectator-diquark field theory model in (3+1) dimensions. Performing a light-front calculation in parallel with the manifestly covariant calculation in light-front helicity basis, we examine the light-front zero-mode contribution to the helicity components of light-front good ("+") current matrix elements. Choosing the light-front gauge ($\epsilon^+_{h=\pm}=0$) with circular polarization in Drell-Yan-West frame, we find that only the helicity components $({1\over 2}, {1\over 2})$ and $({1\over 2},-{1\over 2})$ of the good current receive the zero-mode contribution. Taking into account the zero-mode, we find the prescription independence in obtaining the light-front solution of form factors from any three helicity matrix elements with smeared light-front wavefunctions. Abstract

We present model independent measurements of the helicity basis form factors in the decay D{sup +}{yields}K{sup -}{pi}{sup +}e{sup +}{nu}{sub e} obtained from about 2 800 decays reconstructed from a 281 pb{sup -1} data sample collected at the {psi}(3770) center-of-mass energy with the CLEO-c detector. We confirm the existence of a previously observed spin-zero K{sup -}{pi}{sup +} component interfering with the K*{sup 0} amplitude. We see no evidence for additional d- or f-wave contributions.

Abstract

A nonequilibrium Green's function approach is employed to investigate the spin-Hall effect in diffusive two-dimensional electron systems with Rashba spin-orbit interaction. Considering a long-range electron-impurity scattering potential in the self-consistent Born approximation, we find that the spin-Hall effect arises from two distinct interband polarizations in helicity basis: a disorder-unrelated polarization directly induced by the electric field and a polarization mediated by electron-impurity scattering. The disorder-unrelated polarization is associated with all electron states below the Fermi surface and produces the original intrinsic spin-Hall current, while the disorder-mediated polarization emerges with contribution from the electron states near the Fermi surface and gives rise to an additional contribution to the spin-Hall current. Within the diffusive regime, the total spin-Hall conductivity vanishes in {\it infinitely large} samples, independently of temperature, of the spin-orbit coupling constant, of the impurity density, and of the specific form of the electron-impurity scattering potential. However, in a {\it finite-size} Rashba two-dimensional semiconductor, the spin-Hall conductivity no longer always vanishes. Depending on the sample size in the micrometer range, it can be positive, zero or negative with a maximum absolute value reaching as large as $e/8\pi$ order of magnitude at low temperatures. As the sample size increases, the total spin-Hall conductivity oscillates with a decreasing amplitude.
